  1. Sonic Blast gets better offensive output as a defender due to the better -resistance and stacking, which more than makes up for any difference due to scourge.

Traps gets better numbers as a defender.

As a defender you get more endurance when teamed.

There's no game mechanics reason that I can think of to take a Sonic Blast and Traps character corruptor over defender. Other combinations differ, with many, if not most, falling on the corruptor side of the tracks. Sonic Blast Traps is one of the exceptions.

If you flip it to corruptor and want to maintain soft-cap, you'll have to make up the defensive difference. A PvP IO would likely be the quick, if expensive, fix. Other options would be to go with Triage Beacon instead of Medicine and Hover/Stealth/Combat Jumping. You could also swap Hasten for Hover/Stealth/CJ.

If you can't flip the build from defender to corruptor for yourself, you need entirely more help than I have either the time nor patience for.

PS: None of this applies to PvP. If you want a PvP build, you should ask in the PvP Forums.
  2. They are expected to get more S/L.

If it was balanced otherwise, they would be able to get 70 S/L, which is higher than any scrapper off the top of my head.

Otherwise, they would need different modifiers on Fighting:Tough, but not other Pool Powers, or different custom versions of fighting that only apply to crabs. I'm pretty sure game mechanics wise those exceptions were considerably harder to deal with than to simply make the changes in the crab only power.

  4. I no longer like Bane builds. I no longer run Bane builds. I run Huntsman builds.

This is the most recent Bane build I've looked at.

You can swap CTO for Wolf Spider Armor once you have enough +accuracy from sets that won't grey out when you exemplar. Otherwise, anytime you grey out your +accuracy set bonuses you're gonna be hurting in the to-hit department. For that matter, it wouldn't be criminal to leave CTO in the build, even though I typically don't like using it.

  5. Crab Fortification + Tough ~= Scrapper Resistance Sets + Tough ~= WAI due to Crabs having higher defensive and resistive modifiers.

As for the passives, I've always assumed it was because the focus of those powers was to be a toned down 25% version of Static Shield or Obsidian Shield.

  6. Let us see your build, maybe we can make suggestions.

I can solo 6 out of 10 of the sabotage, regardless of which veat I use. 6 out of 10, because inevitably sooner or later a lucky double tap hits me and takes me out. Hospital, then finish the other half.

The Fortunata Confuses the bosses, then dives into the middle. The Fortunata also has options of small purple, Vengeance, Demonic, Barrier, Rebirth, or Void, but doesn't have to lean on them as much as the Huntsman, Crab, Bane, Night Widow. Fortunata control can be a powerful tool. The Huntsman starts at range with a (Small Purple, Vengeance, Demonic, Barrier, Rebirth, or Void) and ranged attacks, then dives into melee. The crab would be the same as the huntsman, but without the melee part. Nightwidow would be the same as Fortunata, but using Elude/Void/Demonic/Small Purple instead of Confusing the bosses. A Bane Build would be the same as the huntsman, but without the ranged part.
  7. I set them each on an AV while I immobilized the target and ran a stopwatch. If they have -regen, then I'm sure it helped their times and resulting dps numbers. How much, I can't answer.
  8. All of the Veats are AV and Pylon Capable. Most builds should be both AV and Pylon Capable. The main exceptions would be Ranged Based Fortunata and AoE Focused Crab without pets. However, both Fortunata and Crab can be built with sufficient offense to take on both AVs and Pylons.
  9. I tested the T3 Versions

Warworks 160 st dps - Pure damage, hybrid melee/ranged
IDF 126 st dps - Stuns? hybrid melee/ranged
Clockwork 126 st dps - All ranged
Seers 74 st dps - Control, Ranged but one of them likes to pretend it's melee.

Sometimes I walk slowly into an edge. Sometimes I jump past them, let FFG Catchup and play target while I toss Seekers. Other Times I just resummon the FFG in the middle of the pack after I drop PGT. There is no one perfect way to keep that slow poke where it should be.

Can I have the video of your teleport experiments 8? I'll even pay a good 1995 influence for the team teleport version of the video, if it includes uncensored team-mate voice channels.
  11. Short answer: travel powers are really not needed.

Longer answer: Hover or (Combat Jumping + Hurdle +Sprint + GVE Jump) has been sufficient for my needs. Other Temp travel powers are available everywhere these days. Fly Packs in GVille and PI, etc. Also, you have to give something up for that travel power, which key defensive or offensive power do you want to give up ?

    Huntsman/Crab?

It's not the raw damage, it's the (damage * -resistance) plus self-armor, team buffs, and team damage multiplication.
My ST damage on paper should be close to 200 st dps, but I suspect in-game it's closer to 180. AoE is around 600 aoe dps the way I measure it, while a Fire Blaster would be ... 180 to 220 st dps and 800 aoe dps. So call the huntsman 80% of the blaster performance. Then the huntsman damage type will most likely be more heavily resisted, so maybe 65% to 70% of the top of the line blaster, would be more fair. On the other hand, that number will be closer to 80%, or even higher, when compared to the more average blaster. Futher against the huntsman, the Huntsman has to work harder to do his offensive best, using all those debuffs. On the plus side, the huntsman is more easily armored, and brings a great deal of that armor to the team, and significantly boosts the teams damage output as well through both +damage and -resistance; all those debuffs that slow the huntsman down solo, speed the team up. In the end you have to decide if what you gain worth what you lose ?

I build as much, or more, for defense as offense. I also tend to emphasize ST capability for taking out Hard Targets, while the team deals with the AoE. However, at the same time I like to have appreciable AoE. You could definitely drop some defense in favor of recharge, AoE powers, and probably Hover. With the Crab you could drop even more defense for recharge, AoE powers, and Hover.

Fire/MM with soft-capped Ranged and AoE as high as possible if you can manage it. No, Huntsman/Crab isn't going to approach Top Tier Fire Blaster levels of offense, but they do fit solidily into the blaster range, and depending on how you build them, put out significant levels of offense as well as defense.

The following contains a graph I did for i16. Huntsman has gained one more -resistance ST power since then, in Shatter Armor. It's not gospel or anything, it's conceptual based on various builds I through together, likely including many mistakes. But it should help you visualize that not only is damage of an AT actually range and based on how you build, but where in those ranges other ATs can fit. Fire is cream of the crop for damage. AR is nice, if an only if, you can immobilize your target, but that isn't really shown in the graph. Ice is nice all around of the non-fire choices, and pretty much my default if I don't pick fire. Archery is nice in it's own way, but only after Rain of Arrows and only because Rain of Arrows is Rain of Arrows. All of which wraps back around to why I'm a huntsman, I didn't want fire, and Huntsman was like the improved AR.
    http://www.repeat-offenders.net/foru..._1#entry132339
  13. Typically, you would just pull up mids and put the powers in the same order/priority. If a power gets pushed back due to requirements, another will come forward in it's place automatically. When you're done to you double check it for sanity. There are sets where it's not that simple, because of changes between ATs, but it will work for 9 out of 10 builds.

IMO, sonic blast gains little from being a Corruptor, unlike say Ice or Fire. Sonic Blast gains quite a bit of -resistance from the defender side. Call it -45 Resist vs -60 resist when stacked on a target. The difference in -resist and vigilance makes up for any difference in offense due to scourge, and adds more endurance when teamed. Dark Miasma loses a bit Corruptor Side, but your defense toggles close that gap. All in all, IMO, I'd go Defender or Evil Defender for this combo.

Phfft. With 61 Melee/61 Ranged/61 AoE defense, -damage from seekers, moderate resists to stack with -damage, -to-hit, Force of Nature, Demonic, Vengeance, and everything else at my disposal, I'm probably tougher than many tanks. I'm not waiting on them unless I just happen to want vengeance.

    Huntsman/Crab?

It's not a "Bane" build, but a Bane Armor based Huntsman. "Bane" Builds are my least favorite, even though they were my first builds for Soldiers.

This is the version without the PvP IO. The PvP IO helps with a bit more defense and recharge in the build. It and the change in slotting it allows would close the gap in the Melee Mace Attack Chain. But I honestly don't feel like the gain is worth the cost for this build, where as the PvP IO gives the Crab Version another AoE to use. I can only afford 1 PvP IO, so I have to choose carefully where and which build to use it.

I typically solo +4x8 with the exception of:
Carnies: There are just too many holds for 4 status protection. A spawn of all Master Illusionists can even hold through 16 status protection, 4 is just pathetic. The Fortunata typically eats these for lunch, but every now and then they get the better of her, when they get lucky.
Arachnos: I have to be very careful of the Psy based -defense. If even one lands, it's bad news. The Fortunata is not nearly so sensitive to -defense.
Cheat DE (as opposed to regular DE): Even the Fortunata struggles with these, and she has almost Apexe Defense Levels. She has to make sure Aura of Confusion is up before she tackles them.
Cimerorans: I can hunt these, but I have to stay on my toes, move around, and kite more than I'd like. It's inefficient. Better to just drop them a level to +2 or +3 and mow them down like weeds. Otherwise, one lucky hit and I'm cascading to dead in a blink.
There may be others, but I don't recall them right now.

I use 3 different attack chains depending on the situation, and to minimize the redraw. Redraw really does kill the overall performance is you aren't careful. But, redraw and all, I love the versatility. I have good damage regardless, and good -resistance. I can stay at range, or I can dive in and put the extra -resist and a few good thumps on hard targets when needed.

I'm generally either using the ranged attacks, sometimes with Bayonet, sometimes not; or I'm closing into Melee for Shatter->Crowd Control->Shatter Armor->Shatter->Crowd Control->back to ranged.

It's by no means "optimal", there's nothing optimal about a huntsman build. It's more of a "not best at anything, but really good at several things".

Or you can look through the archives of builds I've collected, probably even some of your builds, at:

  16. DE/DER/D = Defense/Endurace , Defense/Endurance/Recharge, Defense; Invention Origin Enhancments. "Luck of the Gambler" in this case.
    DE/DR/D+ = Defense/Endurance, Defense/Recharge, Defense Global +Recharge IOs; Invention Origin Enhancments.
RE/RER/R = Resist/Endurance , Resist/Endurance/Recharge, Resist; Invention Origin Enhancments. "Aegis" in this case.
    RE/RR/R = Resist/Endurance, Resist/Recharge, Resist; Invention Origin Enhancments.
FC resist = Fire / Cold Resist; Toxic and Psy resists are always weak, and so I didn't mention either of those as they are (almost) always weaknesses. The Fire/Cold weakness is significant. In this case you get some psy resist and no Toxic. The Psy resist bonus is significant.
    CP = Conserve Power
    FoN = Force of Nature

I'm pretty sure Clarion (perma mez protection) will be a given, and in turn Cardiac Partial Radial (Endurance, Resistance, Fear) is a given in this build.
Otherwise You'll need Ageless +Recovery, and whatever. Probably Musculature.
I really feel like Clarion would be the better choice.
  17. Here's a Defender Version I did for someone else, just swap it around a bit for the Corruptor.

Solid Defense, Solid Resist, Likely a bit of a bind between 30 and 41 as far as endurance goes, but once you get to 47 or 50 you'll be golden again.
Cardiac is implied in the slotting. You may need to slot several things slightly differently while leveling.
For Instance: DE/DER/D and RE/RER/R in the toggles until you get your endurance management powers, then you can swap to DE/DR/D+ and RE/RR/R
I balanced Defense and Resist, with FC resist being the only major weakness, but the strongest defense by a couple of points.
I balanced Fear and -To-hit, for Fearsome Stare.
I balanced -To-hit and Healing for Fluffy.
I had to choose between Dark AoE Control, Sonic AoE Control, Sonic Stun, Dark Holds, or Nuke. I chose Nuke and Dark Control, since the Sonic control would only be useful solo, and I've never really needed the stuns or holds for myself as I try to build to be sturdy enough to not need them.

I didn't go Scorpion for endurance management reasons, and with all your -to-hit, it shouldn't be needed.
I did go Mu over Power, or the extra endurance management and steadier overall resist/defense.
If I were to go another APP it would be Power with CP, FON, and Vengeance.

It all comes down to the question of how badly do you need Power Sink and Energy Resist ? If you can live without Power Sink, and 30 Energy Resist is enough for you, then I'd go with FoN. But, This is a pretty endurance hungry build, and Energy Damage is very prevalent in some higher level content. Tough Call.

  18. Typically my choice would be Clockwork Lore, they're more offense than Seers and being ranged don't get themselves killed as quickly.

My ST target testing showed them to be:
    Warworks 160 dps
    IDF and Clockwork 126 dps
    Seers 74 dps

Clockwork always stay at (short) range, and making them target through me (using keybinds) keeps their aggro low.

Warworks are pure damage, but you have to keep Vicky alive. I can do that with my veats, defenders, controllers, corruptors; but not so much with a scrapper.

IDF have stuns, or so I'm told. I've not tried to test or leverage the stuns, but again, the melee thing is an issue with keeping them alive.

Seers, for some gwad aweful reason, one of my seers always insists on closing to melee equivalent range to use one of the powers. They do have great control, even (at least helping) holding an AV once while PTOD was down. But as far as damage itself was concerned, it was pitiful, unless being matched against a Psy weak opponent or T9.

EDIT: All of the above were T3 Total Core . I should have mentioned that.
  19. I use a full lockdown set in PGT, with SS and Stealth IO for Invisibility.

Toss in the Seekers, Dive in, PGT, Mortar, Trip Mine, Caltrops. PGT holds em while Mortar animates, then by the time the hold takes effect, I start dropping the interrupt-able trip mine. If I try trip mine sooner, it's interrupted before the PGT can take effect, if I try it later, It's interrupted as the PGT wears off before it finishes animating. If I'm on a team, by that time everything is dead. If not, the real fun begins.
  20. Patron Redraw between the bane mace and patron mace was fixed, unless it's been re-broken very recently and I've not noticed it.
  21. I used Void Radial -Damage regularly specifically for the -damage.
  22. Shatter Armor on a widow is non-optimal; it is at best equal to TTA and it may even lower your dps, use sparingly. However, it is always good for the team.

Follow-Up Slotting could definitely be different, but the changes I would make, would break up Gaussians, and then you would need more defense from somewhere else.

Spin Slotting, I hope all your accuracy bonuses are purples, if not, you'll have a problem if you ever malfactor vs +4s.

It's just a note, something you might want to look into if you have not already. Your build looks odd to me, I've not a clue what your proper attack chain should be, nor how to modify or improve it. I'm assuming you were after recharge bonuses at all costs. It is entirely possible that you could get a better attack chain at lower cost and lower recharge. I would have to spend more time than it's worth to me, to analyze it.

Use T1 Cardiac for now. If that doesn't get your endurance under control, then T4 Musculature Radial will not either. T4 Musculature Radial is only a 0.10 boost on average, while T1 Cardiac is considerably more. T1 Cardiac is .14 on toggles alone, and another 0.4 to 0.6 or more on your attack chain for a total of up to 0.5 to 1.0 eps depending on the build.

If you find T1 Cardiac does not cover your needs, then you'll know you then need (Ageless +Recovery with Musculature), or Cardiac.
  23. Given that it's an ehanceable amount, variable by the way you slot it, I always edit Mids database and remove the "Suppressed when Attacked" effects.
It would be about 3.3% defense after suppression with that build.

Regeneration, again varies, based on both duration and how many hit points you have, and hit points vary build to build.
T4 Rebirth Radial is 200% regeneration perma (more in the short term), or about double what you have in that build, or about 16 additional hps or a total of 32 hps . Aid Self by contrast would add up to 30 additional hps for a total of 45 hps, but is interruptable and takes around 4 seconds of cast time cutting into your offense.

You can lookup the Incarnate stuff in: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=254417
  24. Hopefully I didn't gut this too badly.

I went with Doctored Wounds over Panacea
I gutted Fast Healing for Slots and dropped vengeance -for- Slots in Lockdown, Obliteration, DA, Buildup and soft-cap melee with one DA.
Then I re-ordered it to my normal build order.
This should be much better than my current build, which had considerably more recharge, but 2/3 of the defense.
