They ignore stealth, and will shoot at you as soon as they see you, likely making an AS impossible through shear weight of fire. If you run, they will follow.

By the time you've dealt with one wave, the NEXT has already headed your way. Rinse and repeat until rady to actually stab someone in the face over how damn obnoxious it is.
Can't say I ran that mission as my Stalker was in the Resistance. But in that situation, unorthodox powers like Phase Shift or temp powers would be a great tactic. Looking at the mission details doesn't say the door ambush will follow you through elevators while the ambushes triggered by attacking Shen will. So run for the elevator. Placate as you turn a corner to hide you and get out of dodge

I didn't say *they* run, I said *you* run. Lol, if the ambush consist of 3 guys, having your Stalker kill 2 and leave a minion, you just use placate on the last guy then run away.

If you're lucky, the thing'll get stuck in the geometry of the map somewhere and you'll be rid of any new ambushes. If not, the minion will come after you again, but if you're aiming to head straight to the objective, you might finish before he catches up and if not, placate the thing again.

It's a tactic only usable for Stalkers but then Stalkers are so infamous at being hosed by these ambushes, I just thought I'd share that little trick to anyone still taking Stalkers through Preatoria.

Fighting Syndicate just now, at +0/x0, I had to use a small green, small yellow, mid purple and a big green....JUST to beat one minion and a Pyrokin. I mean, sorry? The minion has a gun that has high acc and...-def. And a sword that has...-Def! And then the kin hits me with Siphon Power...and then BOTH of them are spanking me around like my defences dont matter and I'm trying to fight +4s!
Hehe, I actually find the Syndicate the easier of the enemy groups to deal with. And by far, too easy on my Kin/EA stalker. I plan to go again when they eventually proliferate another set for me to play a stalker on (or give me some cool animations for current sets).

    Lets see, shall we?

    1) Endless ambushes? Check!
    2) Homing, stealth ignoring ambushes? Check!
    3) Ambushes that drop NOTHING for defeating, making any inspirations used a complete unrecoupable waste? CHECK!
    4) Add just ONE Kinetic Syndicate LT and you pretty much insa-die, because thye just buffed about 18 minions beating your face in ON BLEEDING +0/x0?! CHECK!

Seriously. BULL-****! Whoever made that mission, go and kick yourself in the face, please. Save me the trouble...

For a Stalker? If I find the ambushes don't stop, kill the ambush sans the last weak-A minion and placate. Run away and just keep placating when he catches up

It also helps that Ectenic Hood (the KM/EA stalker) picked up Phase Shift to completely ignore all ambushes when he needs to.

I'm not saying Prea is 'easy' just mitigatable if you think outside the box. Those ghoul missions and ambushes tho...uhg....

    Necroposting

IMO, it's only necroposting when bringing up an old thread with some dumb irrelevant comment like "RISE FROM TEH GRAVE!1" or replying to the OP with information that wasn't available/true when the post was made.

That said, I'd rather there be no time limit on what's considered necroposting but rather the relevance of the post that bumps it. Honestly, I'd rather be consolidating comments or ideas about a subject in one thread rather than making a new one ever couple of weeks that people will whine and complain and tell you to 'use the search function!' etc. etc.
  7. Not sure if anyone has specified (I've been kind of away from the forums a bit and haven't read around like usual) but anyone care to describe what the jumping portion of Beast Run looks like? The trailer doesn't actually show anyone jumping during the Beast Run. And I'm guessing, with the lack of discussion, that weapons disappear while you run and reappear when you stop? What about the idle stance with a sword/dual pistols out?
  8. [Holiday Day 2: Striga Island]

The warehouse roof quickly collected snow from the instant blizzard that howled and small section of the island. And in the warehouse yard which quickly began to fill with snow, Spirit and the couple of Warriors backing him were still confused at the sudden precipitation. But unlike Spirit, the axe and mace wielding thugs were practically half frozen. Their skin started to take on a shade of blue and they shivered uncontrollably as they cursed to the gods for their lack of sleeves on their warrior jackets which exposed their muscled arms to the fierce cold.

Snow collected on the satyr’s horns and hair and ice between his hooves as, after a matter of a minute, the winter shoreline was transformed to a tundra wasteland.

    “W-w-what k-kind of blizzz-zzard is th-this!?!” the Hewer’s teeth chattered.

Spirit turned his head to the fighter thug and felt a spark of pity for them. Cold temperatures weren’t that difficult for his people, it was practically where his home was, but even he had to admit he was starting to feel the sting of ice freezing the blood in his veins.

“Well obviously, it’s not that Air Caster. Even though they have powers to summon ice storms, this has Hellfrost demon written all over it.” The ram dusted snow off his pants as he focused on the feelings coming from the warriors. Fear, despair and constantly worrying about the cold wouldn’t accomplish anything so you have to push that away. “Come on guys, you can’t be crying over a little snowflake. All we have to do is beat up the demon and it’ll be warm again.” Although they were simply encouraging words, Spirit tapped deep down into the soul spectrum to ignite his heart with a fire to beat this.

The ashen fur of his body began to stand out from his surroundings, the red tint of his dark jeans was more evident now, his amber eyes shown like immaculate stained glass and his shirt shone bright against the white of the snow and ice. He showed no fear or worry and the warriors around him began to feel a passion burning in them too.

Like the warriors from days of old, fighting against or besides all sorts of weird creatures and demons, to get a chance to feel like those greek soldiers was what they joined the Warriors for! And just as Spirit shown intensely over his white backdrop, so did the intensity of the Warriors’ hue. Their blades looked shinier and the fire in their souls shown in the fierceness of their eyes. No longer shivering, teeth chattering mortals vainly hugging their bare arms. Now they felt like Hercules whose strength must be channeling through them to hardening their muscles.

Spirit and the pair of Warriors soon got to test their reinforced mettle when a huge hand with crystal blue claws reached out and grabbed the satyr by a horn. The Hellfrost demon lifted Spirit up and looked at the ram in the eye. “Is *this* what I was brought here to deal with? A foolish joke?” the demons subzero breath rushed Spirit’s face as the demon spoke, his mocks literally frosting the ram's eyes over and whipped around his fluttering ears.

“Joke, huh? Well joke this!” Spirit swung at the frosty demon but his fist fell short as the Hellfrost creature put the satyr at arm’s length. “Why don’cha put me down and fight me like an evil monster! Or are ya scruuufffmmffm-”

The satyr had been attempting to kick the demon as he taunted it but only managed to look like a child impishly kicking at a bigger bully. Before Spirit could finish talking back to the Hellfrost, he was quickly silenced by having his head slammed to the ground. The ram’s horns were lodged into the ice and his words muffled by the snow as he felt a heavy hoof stomp his back. The crunch of the ice barely masked the crunch of the satyr’s back or the grunt of pain that escaped his mouth.

“Pitiful,” the demon hissed as he donkey-kicked Spirit after walking over and past his rag-dolled body. “Who’s next?”

But he wasn’t met with fear for dispatching the satyr with such ease, but another howl as the warriors charged with arrows flying and weapons flailing in the air.

    …..

“Ow ow ow ow” Spirit struggled to squeeze himself out of the metal crate that was bent around him after that heavy kick he took to the ribs knocked him through the pile of crates again. It took some pushing but he managed to bend the gnarled crate off of him. “Never been kicked like that,” he joked to himself as he shook it off and started picking himself back up. But the fight had kept going even without him. There were several humans frozen in blocks of ice and one laying in the snow unconscious but apparently it took more to put down these Warriors. When Spirit rushed back to the fight, the demon looked on his last leg with a few arrows in his neck, a large gash on his back that bled out a bright blue liquid and kneeling on one knee, panting heavy breaths of arctic fog.

The last of the warriors swung maces at the demon, knocking him to his back and just as he was pushing himself up again, a walloping headbutt to the demon’s back sent him ragdolling. “Payback!” Spirit hollered after a successful attack. When the demon didn’t get back up, the Warriors (or whoever was left after that) howled and echoed the area as they celebrated their victory.

    …..

“That was amazing! I’ve never felt so awesome before!”

“We fought off a hoard of CoT, and we didn’t even have half our gang to help!”

“All that training is what it was. I bet we could really put a hurting on those Freaks and Ninjas in Talos too.”

After the group defrosted their allies, which amounted to hitting the blocks of ice that incased them until they shed from their frozen companions, the Warriors packed up their injured and retreated to their nearest hideout which was basically a fenced off roved crate yard where the crates were moved and stacked to create a perimeter wall. Besides a few weapon racks and some random boxes for seats, it was a crappy place for a hideout.

The Warriors were patting themselves on the back for a battle well fought back at their safehouse, telling the others who met them there about the one battle against the Circle that they weren’t completely dominated.

“It was all thanks to our new minotaur friend,” one ganger commented and reached up to pat Spirit on the back. Apparently, caught up in the feelings of victory, Spirit tagged along his new friends, laughing and smiling along with the rest of the guys.

“Heh, I’m not a minotaur. But I did get to kick some butt,” Spirit laughed, taking a seat on box and a grin shining on his face. The rest of the guys continued talking on about their fight as another warrior with a shaved head sat across from him with an accepting eye.

“I guess we owe you one, dude. What’s your name?”

“Uhh, you can just call me Spirit…But what were the Circle of Thorns doing around here?” Spirit questioned, pulling his legs back on his seat so he could dangle his hooves from the ground.

“Those guys have been hounding us a lot lately. We’ve had to go into hiding because they keep taking our guys out, looking for something we don’t have,” the same warrior answered, the expertly crafted sword at his belt and the golden sash on his hip certainly made him stand out from the other warriors and his stature and demeanor gave Spirit the idea this guy was the boss around here.

“Wow, that stinks,” Spirit said with a nod. The satyr kept his eye on the man, only blinking every now and then at the rather familiar looking face. “They said something about swords. Is that what it was?”

“Yeah I know,” the boss answered with his own nod. “But the less they know, the more likely I can get *my* hands on those babies. And the sooner I’ll make a name for myself. ‘Golden Jason’ will be as well known as Hercules and Ceasar."
  9. About as serious as a suggestion about using self-rezzes when you're not dead can be.

Honestly, I like the way self-rezzes are as is. If people want to make them usable anytime, there's no real good way to balance that. The only possible options, IMO, would be for a crash suitable for the effect. There needs to be death in there somewhere...

I think you can. Why not just ask the people reading the thread. I generally see all the origins as pretty wide in their scope, which isn't a bad thing. It just means that, if origins mattered, there should be a more customized option for it (or to simply not be affected one way or the other).

    Quote:
I have a problem with this in principle, in how you define who should have what effect against what. In various fiction, I've seen technology-based characters find themselves helpless before magic because... Well, it's magic, such as Darksiders, and I've seen technology-based characters suppress and overcome magic because it's "weak" to technology, such as in the world of Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura. I have, as a point of fact, a character called Mage-Killer Po, whose technological powers centre around tech shields to ward against magical effects and energy weapons designed to affect spirits and cut through magic barriers. By contrast, I have a technologist who wouldn't know magic from a parlour trick if you gave him a road map, yet owns his own R&D corporation.
This isn't a problem on principle. For one, having a tech base character with options to 'suppress' magic or be 'weak' to magic would be options. At least, how I see the idea spanning out, the options would be there:

Choosing to take part in this extra system would mean, by the nature of it, your character would be *locked* as that origin, so if you were tech then anything affecting tech would affect you.

However, there should be options...just not sure the range.
-Super Custom Advanced could conceptually be your tech is so far ahead of the curve, it's alien and practically magic. Things that affect tech wouldn't affect you but simultaneously wouldn't weaken magic.

-Mega Integration could conceptually be the type of tech trumped by magic but being highly adaptable to current tech. You would not only claim the same attributes tech can bring but also have added benefits vs other tech below the range of Super Custom Advanced types.

Your Magekiller Po would probably pick Tech origin with the specific Super Advanced attribute. While your other type of tech user would probably pick something else.

Lol well what if you ended up dying for the effect? Nobody commented about that. Personally, when I'm teamed with my WP stalker or Regen stalker, it's kind of a waste to have a self-rez when a teammate will come by and full-heal you back to life with possibly dmg, a buff or something...well, unless that teammate is dead which is probably the tough situations such powers were built for however rare they may be.

In the situation with a teammate with their hands on a rez, killing myself for a nuke/venge bait then rez would almost make those powers 'must haves' for teaming.
  12. Well obviously, a self rez used while alive would do the inverse of its base effect.

RotP and Soul Transfer would do dmg to foes/mez them but kill you upon use (and no debt for you!) while powers like revive and resurgence would give you the heal/buff but kill you after its effects expire.

The irony in this case is that someone can look at one of the singular strengths of this game - the fundamental concept that things like costumes and origins are NOT linked to in-game stats thus freeing us to assign these details to our characters in any way we wish without fear of affecting how our characters work in-game - and consider that strength a "problem" that needs to be fixed.
Well, I can actually comment on this part, as there is a 'problem' I have with the game and origins.

The way I see it is, we have enemies that are magic. We have enemies that are science. We have enemies that are natural. And a lot of this is reflected in their content, their powers and their stats. But there's a gap that seems to limit the full effect of origins. We, as characters, have no impact or feel any difference from a mystic energy blast or a tech energy blast. That my character is natural doesn't mean squat when meta powers should be suppressed yet I somehow lose my ability to swing a sword.

What I'd like is for origins to actually *do* something in that respect, not so much that you're getting a buff or that you can't choose what it is, but that you should be doing stuff that makes sense for the origin itself. Maybe that Circle of Thorn's hold doesn't last as long or is reduced in effect because I'm a mutant. Or that the mutations of the Devouring Earth can be suppressed by the powers of science so they can't pull up their little pet buffs right off. Or *something*!

Of course, since this is 'new', this should be optional to turn on. So if your character is tech but don't think he should have the effects he does against the Crey and Rikti, you can simply choose not to turn it on.

Of course, I think there should be other 'stuff' you can manipulate to get various effects with the use of origin.

So if you just choose your origin at random or for buying enhancements at stores, just don't use it. If you choose the origin for concept, then you might actually find your technology doing technological stuff. If your complaint is you couldn't min/max from the get go and have your mutant Elec/Elec Brute do what someone else's natural Elec/Elec Brute can do vs Rikti, then tough. Reroll and get over it.

  19. Eh, I kind of did like the old defiance..when worked. Your HP had to be really low to get an appreciable buff and by then you'd either be quickly killed or you'd pop a heal/be healed by a teammate and it disappear.

Maybe if it lasted a couple seconds after being healed? And it didn't require you to be in the red? And roll in the part of Defiance 2 that lets you shoot while mezzed?

But then that's probably way better than what Blasters have now (at least situationally).

I was actually trying to think of of a model for temp powers to make them more available (that is, you can choose a couple of temp powers that 'stick' longer) to flesh out concepts more.

There was a 'Utility Belt' power pool idea I had that basically give you the choice of 2 temp powers you can keep perma (with limitations of course) at the cost of 2/3 power slots. Fair trade, IMO, and we need more pools now that we lost one.

Another might be giving everyone the option of a 'Utility Belt' but only being able to 'keep' temp powers that relate to your origin. Perhaps giving the option of a handful of slots and 'keeping' a power outside of your origin takes up more of those slots?
