If I, for whatever reason, hop into a group and pop Drain Psych, I will still die and since Blasters don't have Earth Control...
  3. If they port Dark Blast, they might remove a power to make room for Aim (like Psy blast). If so, they can remove Life Drain and put it in the manipulation set (instead of Siphon Life because LD is a much more milder heal). If they remove the pit power (was it called Dark Pit? eh, it's the AoE disorient), perhaps put that as the tier 9 but beefier (better accuracy, longer duration but longer rech and higher endurance).

The tier 1 shouldn't be Touch of Fear. It should be something like Midnight Grasp but weaker with the dmg spread out over a longer DoT...or a ST version of Tenebrous Tenacles.

Also, the ST hard control in the set should probably be melee range. So considering that, here's how I think the manipulation set should look:

    1. Murky Tentacle (ST immobilize, neg energy DoT)
    2. Smite
    3. Shadow Maul (I know no one likes this but it's a staple, isn't bad when you use it and most importantly skippable)
    4. Death Shroud (increase range to 15ft)
    5. Soul Drain
    6. Life Drain (if taken from DB)
-or Siphon Life (only if Life Drain is in fact removed from the primary)
-or Midnight Grasp (if neither of the former make it to the secondary)
-or Dark Pit (if it's removed from the primary but the stats must stay the same)
    7. Touch of Fear
    8. & 9. Some Combination of the following
    -Dark Pit (but beefier)
-Oppressive Gloom (no thanks, to taking HP and probably less likely if Dark Pit is fit in somewhere else)
-Cloak of Fear (the better choice to use with Touch of Fear)
-Dark Consumption (meh, take it or leave it. It's not that great of a utility power but a decent dmg one when it's up)

    My personal hope is:
    1. Murky Tentacle
    2. Smite
    3. Shadow Maul
    4. Death Shroud
    5. Soul Drain
    6. Midnight Grasp
    7. Touch of Fear
    8. Cloak of Fear
    9. Dark Pit (75% acc, rech 60sec, END 20, 15sec stun duration, -6.5 ToHit)

While Drain Psyche is great, it hardly stops you from dropping (as my Earth/Psi dom will attest) just helps you keep going.
  5. But personally, I wish the dmg type shift was more than just 30% if for purely concept reasons (my character(s) not shooting real incendiary/cryo rounds but solidified cold and fire formed into a handy bullet shape to be propelled at high velocity at its target).

I never thought it would have been so much a balance issue to be 50lethal/50other or even 30lethal/70other.
  6. But wouldn't it be cool to have more forms to pick from for Khelds? I remember someone from an old RP thread explaining that instead of the dwarf form, the form resembled a velociraptor with an oversized maw. And stomped and bit stuff rather than punch it.

    ....I guess that's customization, tho.
  7. Like I said, it was probably better I didn't bother responding.

But I'm probably the most unoriginal uncreative person you'll ever meet and yet I have never needed someone to pick a concept for me. But if you're asking for general effectiveness advice, I could see asking what set styles fulfill a concept better. But since both Inv and WP work on surrounding yourself in enemies, they're very nearly the same in function with just differing unique 'shinies'.

It's just a 'pet peeve' that irks me on the forums. I figure everyone has theirs and I tend to steer away from mine (as it's usually everywhere).

  9. What *could* they add? Khelds only do a certain thing but perhaps alternate 'forms' you could choose from?

Arachnos soldiers only do a certain thing too. Adding anything to them means making up new stuff for the faction itself and they're already quite diverse.
  10. Curious about DP/ blasters:

Why do so many go with /MM? I mean, I can sort of understand /devices for a natural/tech feel and /EM because EM goes with anything...but I've seen so many /MMs now and during beta...

Don't think I ever saw /Ice, I saw probably a couple /Elec but not many now and I'm the only /Fire I've seen at all. Is there some kind of synergy or character concept everyone is aiming for that I'm just not aware of?

Well, since '8' is usually substitute for 'ate', then wouldn't it be 'm8'?
(I can at least sound out that as I'm reading it were the other way I have to reread it like 'not mmtate or matate')

I say it'd 'probably' save you about the same time because, unless you could see 'everything' you can e-mail, it'd be no substitute for being able to see a character's full enhancement tray, salvage and recipe menu as well. You never know what stuff you might have stowed away on a character and might find 'more' than you need.

I would actually love this suggestion, reason I never play any Tanks is because of the damage output. I like to solo more than anything and would very much like to play a toon that can take just about whatever is given to them. Only toon of mine that can really do this is my fire/kin, which to say the least is getting very old.
That's sort of why I don't play Tankers, but not because of the dmg but because...well, Tankers are team-oriented melee and I tend to solo or small-team. Gauntlet would do nothing where crit and fury and assassination do something when solo...

...but even solo, I'll play a defender because they inherently play different from blasters...never really got into corruptors for some reason...but I rarely play defenders anymore either...

Yes I am. But after the third time this guy has suggested the same thing and been told the same thing, I have every right to start jamming it down his throat.
If you've got the self-proclaimed right to jam anything down anyone's throat, then we have the right to suggest whatever the hell we damn well want.
  13. What's an mt8?

And I'd say this is partially alleviated with the 'not needing to log out to switch toons' option we'll soon be getting. So just
    -log onto ToonA
    -look for inf/merits
-not what you're looking for so log on ToonB
    -found it, start e-mailing

Probably result in the same amount of time saved as the above, but we're already getting it.

Really? By my (probably flawed) calculations:

    a 100 dmg lethal attack (actually a 70 dmg +30 dmg lethal) vs 50% lethal resist = 35dmg + 15 dmg letha = 50 dmg

    a 70 dmg lethal/30 dmg cold vs 50% lethal resist = 35dmg lethal +30 dmg cold = 65 dmg total, not 70-80dmg >_>

I always liked the sound of the Sonic Blasts. They're suppose to be less visual and more audio in terms of results and I think they do that pretty well. The only problem I have is you can only shoot the sound from your mouth and mouths usually don't make weird whale sounds like that. I just want to shoot it from the hand...that and the new Praetoria PD 'cannon gloves' to go with it ^^

Also thinking more about tough/weave than patron powers, but that's aways off and could easily change my mind on that.
Like I said, if you pick certain bonuses try choosing (or not choosing) powers that yield the most efficient results. If you've got lots of rech so you can have perma (or near perma) dull pain, you can skip trying to add +HP set bonuses. If you get accolades and bonuses to cap your HP naturally (what I'm aiming at and quite possible), you can skip dull pain as you're only getting a big slow heal with it. If you get +def, I'd skip resilience all together and probably try fitting in more attacks to burst with. With IOs, you've got options...

Weave, unless you have +def bonuses/powers to stack with it, is useless on Regen. You'd need at least +20ish% defense to something to make a noticeable difference and for Regen, I'd suggest smashing/lethal defense.

Tough is nice but it provides a relatively low bonus even stacked with IOs and Resilience. If you have the power choices, definitely take it but it's up to you if it means skipping out on more AoE dmg (Ball Lightning is quite good stacked with all those other AoEs, I'll tell you) or better mitigation (Shadow Meld is good...very good).

    Um.. what?!?

    *headshots everyone in the thread*

Did I do it right? >_>
  21. Perhaps with the new issue and the update to the market UI, you'll find it easier to find and craft things and be more inspired to sell and make inf to buy other things.

Really, it is a pain to get a build working but when you do, it's quite nice.
  22. Lol, I guess you would have preferred the old version of swap ammo that was a click power that cycled from standard>cold>fire>chemical>standard, took around 2sec to animate each shift, cost 5 endurance per swap and was socketable for endurance redux?

Lol, swap ammo is cheap now
  23. If you're planning to use IOs, I'd definitely say /Regen.

If you get bonuses for capped HP, you could either slot Dull Pain as a big/slow heal or you can skip it. Adding resists via tough and some bonuses is also a good choice but probably not as good as stacking some defense vs either melee or smashing/lethal.

The kicker, tho, for the combo Elec/Regen is +rech bonuses. More rech makes both sets very strong (compared to /SR, /WP or /DA that receive little from it). Elec/Regen/Soul with lots of +rech means lots of Lightning Rod/Reconstruction/Instant Healing/Moment of Glory/Shadow Meld goodness.

I didn't even take /soul on my Elec/Regen (went Mu for concept) but it's still a beast...got about +30somthing% rech from IO bonuses and hasten and it's pretty good and getting better.

But don't be fooled, it's tough going early on. Sometimes I felt pretty useless when things dropped me before I could even hit reconstruction...it gets better tho.

As far as excising AoE into the secondary, that was a conscious choice. Even dropping the snipe and the nuke, I just can't fit enough powers in the same set to handle all of melee, range and AoE damage. JUST an Assault set simply doesn't work for a damage dealer without solid defences, because it doesn't deal damage quickly enough, especially on a bigger team. And if I'd butted AoE into the actual set, I'd have had to but melee or range out of it, in turn. I decided to put exclusively single-target attacks in the primary and retain AoE in the secondary in a way not too dissimilar from a Psi/Psi Blaster.
I think you're approaching it from a strange perspective, tho.

You say you're trying to fit in powers to handle melee, range and AoE dmg. What's to say this AT should have the best of all worlds here? I think the way Assault sets are designed, it's not so much 'get as much omph in there as possible' but 'make sure they all mesh into a viable style'.

Thinking from the dom secondaries I've played: Thorns is built for good AoE and decent ST; it has the right powers to back up someone wanting to deal a quick burst of AoE. Energy is more ST burst; it has some hefty attacks but rather weak AoE but it's not so bad considering the control you get along with it. Fire....meh, never liked fire...Psi is well rounded but with light (and rather slow, IMO) ST but the dmg it deals is psi so that's a plus (sometime). Earth...I haven't played enough earth but most of the good stuff is melee ST.

Now that I think about it, the same goes for any damage set. Some just do better ST dmg, others AoE, some a balance of both. That's not a bad thing, that's just how damage sets are. From Electric Melee, to Icy Assault to Archery.

The reason corruptors and defenders use ranged as their pairing is that they generally can't survive melee.
And that's only true if you actually believe being at range is comparable to a set of armor powers or that enemies for some reason can't shoot you and therefore armor is pointless.

There's a reason the pairing of ranged attacks with self defense is called a 'Tankmage' and it's not because anything is underperforming.

As for the use of Assault and Manipulation for other ATs, I'm already of the opinion that they are better used by their respective ATs but that isn't to say some new combination of powers to make a unique set isn't right for a new AT that it's intended for.
