Here's a little pop menu that gives you access to slash commands not found in the UI or game option menus. This demonstrates what you can also do with popmenu. Simple. I hope.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
For the computer illiterate like me: :3
1. Open word pad.
2. Copy n Paste the below command.
3. Edit the contents for what you need.
4. Be sure to name the file as: Extramenu.mnu
5. Save to: C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\data\texts\English\Menus
-- (You may have to make the following folders inside the data folder: text \ English \ Menus.)
-- (The Extramenu.mnu file will be saved in the \ Menus folder.)
6. Hit ENTER and type the following line into chat: /macro "Menu" "popmenu Extramenu"
7. This will place a macro button in your powers tray. It should say "Menu".
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
//Extra menu to help with some things that are not shown in the UI.

REGULAR EMOTES in costume change popmenu:
Hey all, don't know if anyone covered this, but if you want to do a REGULAR EMOTE with your costume change instead of a COSTUME CHANGE EMOTE. Here it is. You can modify whatever emote you want. This works, but also serves as an example of what you can do with popmenu.
The only problem, is that when the line is activated, the costume change is executed first, followed by the emote. There is a delay in animations between the two so I don't know how to sync them like a costume change emote works, where they are both working in relation to each other. So instead, you get a costume change, then the emote, instead of the other way around. -----> SEE FAR BELOW FOR MORE:
The other problem is when you click on the selection in the pop-up menu and the costume is not ready, (costume change timer) then it will keep doing the regular emote without the costume change until the timer has reached 0. The it will switch costumes, then emote again.
I should point out that I have mine on a macro button, as I R tray clicker. Me good at tray button masherings. :3
NOTE: The file name is changed to "Costumes3, Costumes2" for modified files respectively.
The "Menu" line contains the file name:
----->(e.g... Menu "Costume3" or Menu "Costumes2")
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's the modified commands with "regular emotes":
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
//Set Costume slots
//
Menu "Costumes3"
{
Option "Costume &1" "cc 0$$emote Clap"
Option "Costume &2" "cc 1$$emote DrumDance"
Option "Costume &3" "cc 2$$emote Angry"
Option "Costume &4" "cc 3$$emote BatSmashReact"
Option "Costume &5" "cc 4$$emote Flex1"
}
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's the "Costume Change emotes" commands: >----BELOW---<
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
//Set Costume slots
//
Menu "Costumes2"
{
Option "Costume &1" "cc_e 0 ccLightning"
Option "Costume &2" "cc_e 1 ccCast"
Option "Costume &3" "cc_e 2 ccSpin"
Option "Costume &4" "cc_e 3 ccBackFlip"
Option "Costume &5" "cc_e 4 ccVanguardSigil"
}
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's the original NON-emotes commands: >----BELOW---<
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
//Set Costume slots
//
Menu "Costumes"
{
Option "Costume &1" "cc 0"
Option "Costume &2" "cc 1"
Option "Costume &3" "cc 2"
Option "Costume &4" "cc 3"
Option "Costume &5" "cc 4"
}
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE: The file name is changed to "Costumes3, Costumes2" for modified files respectively.
The "Menu" line contains the file name:
----->(e.g... Menu "Costume3" or Menu "Costumes2")
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can flip the line like this: (e.g.. Option "Costume &4" "emote BatSmashReact$$cc 3")
But this will only do the same as they are two separate commands, functioning separately.
If someone knows how to delay the CC (costume change) command so the animations appear to be in sync (timing wise) like a "costume change emote", please post it. I don't think it's possible but worth a try eh?
Anywho, again, I don't know if anyone ever posted this trick as I don't come on the forums often, but there ya go.
Enjoy. -
Energy melee is pretty awesome for blasters as is. If they do make Martial Arts for blasters, they'll probably nerf it to balance with the rest of the AT's. Are you looking for style? Or functionality? Because whatever you want for style, e.g. DP/Martial Arts, the devs will only look at it from a functionality point of view.
But truthfully, if you want to kick and punch the crap out of baddies, make a SR/martial arts scrapper, they are pretty ****ing lethal and fun. And they're non-dairy. -
Anyone else getting bad client crashes?
I was zoning into Nerva, through the ferry, accidentally clicked my contact list instead of map and the client crashed. (I've crashed before in closed beta, but that was early on,)
After I filed a crash report, I reloaded CoH, tried to log back in using the same toon and the client crashed again. Rinse and repeat, and I have a total of 8 client crashes. *I WIN*
I tried another toon, thinking it might be a zone issue. Nope. I logged in just fine. Went to the ferry, zoned to Shark, then back into Nerva without a hitch.
Tried to relog into crash toon, (ya that's a dumb name I admit it) and client crashed again.
I did notice though, that three things were happening.
I was logging in while zoning into Nerva from Ferry. The Shield animations were kicking off.
The contact list was opened with all this going on while zoning.
I NEVER crash on live servers. All my drivers and such are updated. I have a new machine, new vid card, everything woks perfectly, except test server.

Ever sence AE has come out, no one does regular missions, or TFs/SFs anymore, can't even get a team to do the new TF/SF that came out today!! The devs need to make a way that AE doesn't become the end of the rest of the game, because that is what is happening on victory atleast... everyone just sits on there butts in AE all day... granted I do missions in AE sometimes, but not ALL DAY!
Who here agrees with me?!
[/ QUOTE ]I don't. I run regular missions for salvage and drops as well as MA.
Don't worry about AE getting the spotlight atm.. When Going Rogue comes out, EVERYONE with a lvl 35 and up will be in the new Paetoria zone trying to get their brutes, MM's and doms over to hero side. Maybe a tank over to Villains, but what would be the point. :P -
Oh btw.. I'm only assuming like everyone else that when you zone into this new praetoria zone coming in issue 16, your morality meter will be one or the other, hero or villain with a gray area in between.
My reason for this is that the system must prohibit people from becoming heroes or villains at 51%. If they didn't, then mules will be created to shuffle influence over to infamy and vise versa. This would also include the auction house, and access to contacts and stores.
I'm guessing in order for a player to have full access to either side, they must be at 70-90% on their meter in order to access anything. Otherwise there would be a huge loophole in the way people transfer funds and drops to villain side or hero side.
With a 20% gray area on your meter, you basically cannot access or trade anything until you reach 70-90%. This would keep folks from exploiting by crossing over when ever they see fit and causing mayhem. Not that there's anything wrong with a little mayhem, but it would add an unfair advantage to players who could switch so easilty at that 50% marker on the meter. -

Cool, expansion
[/ QUOTE ]
Ya, I posted over a year and a half ago that the logical deduction for this game to expand would be for heroes to become villains and vise versa. This is the third thing I've predicted that came true, even after mostly everyone in the forums tried to rip me a new one. Well, all I can say is.. I TOLD YOU SO... >.< lol -

Really? So this new nerf was nerfed cancelling out the nerf to create a better MA with even more XP's? YAY for nerf nerfs..!

Still making tweaks. Should be finalized soon.
However, since the ban hammer and report happy people are so abundant i'll just unpublish the arc while i'm offline and only publish it when I want to farm.
Genius!
[/ QUOTE ]
Ya, funny how those who petition MA arcs for being a farm, have no problems hopping on a sewer team for XP's and faster leveing. Or, they do speed TF's. Aren't both of these technically called farming?
Hypocrites abound in this game for sure.. -

Don't brag too much.
They're already datamining... wouldn't be hard for the CS reps to start matching up forum names to global accounts, give the number-crunchers something to focus on...
[/ QUOTE ]
In a recent interview, Posi mentioned that the MA was generating record server activity, so the MA the way it was in all it's xp/inf. glory was most assuredly contributing to these high activity bursts no doubt. This, turned Posi's headaches into a double edged sword.
He did say that they would not really nerf this dilema but dull the blade a bit by issue 15. He and the Paragon Studio staff are caught between a rock and a hard place. If they totally nerf it, it may kill the subscriber rate and activity, as they are well aware of.. But if they don't, then it does create a very high and unnatural way of earning XP/Inf, which, according to their own EULA, is a possible bug exploit. But, since everyone is farming and using it to their advantage, you can't really go ban everyone on every server, so what to do?
But who knows. -

Guys?
All the logic and data and such will not help, now.
Posi said No.
Bailiff? Call the next nerf, please!
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, Posi said no, but I wonder what NCSoft in Korea (the main corporation that owns the CoH franchise) would think if they found out that they nerfed a potential goldmine for the sake of the developers visions for this game.
Corporations usually fire folks that resist them making any money for whatever reasons. If Posi doesn't want this at all, then if the subscriptions dip down once again, Posi may be looking for another job at the urgency of the main corporate body in Korea.
I don't know what kind of contractual agreements they have between Paragon Studios and NCSoft Korea, but, I know in the corporate world, if someone stops a process that could potentially make them more money based on principles, they'll toss em out and find someone who will.
Sad but true, even though Posi said no, corporate may say otherwise since they, not Posi, own the rights to the game. Dangerous territory for the developers, very dangerous territory indeed. -
Man at this rate, if they keep removing maps or critters, all that'll be left is hellions on the university map. :/
-
I don't even bother making arcs now. It seems like on a weekly basis they patch and break missions arcs. We have to fix them , then republish again, losing our rating.
Nah, not worth the trouble to make any MA arcs until they get this fixed finally, once and for good. -
Because of the high amount of xp/inf we once earned with Rikti Com Officers, CoX has received some of the highest traffic on all servers for the longest time as we PL'd our toons from 1-40 in 4 hours. It was great fun and we started to re-connect with people as we'd join teams with the goal of getting another lvl 50.
I fear that the devs may be crippling a golden opportunity. If we are leveling faster than usual, then at some point in time we're going to need to buy more character slots.
Selling slots to even 1/2 of the players because of this fast leveling, where they didn't sell them fast enough before, would equate into big money.
--------------------------
Current slot pricing:
--------------------------
1 slot costs $6.00
2 slots cost $10.00
5 slots cost $20.00
--------------------------
--------------------------
10,000 players buy:
1 slot = $60.000
2 slots = $100,000
5 slots = $200,000
-------------------------
50,000 players buy:
1 slot = $300,000
2 slots = $500,000
5 slots = $1,000,000
--------------------------
100,000 players buy:
1 slot = $600,000
2 slots = $1,000,000
5 slots = $2,000,000
------------------------
This huge influx of currency will allow then to create and expand this game in ways not thought possible. They could monetarily have the chance to really compete with Blizzard and win back all those converts. But, the devs have to bite the bullet and let it go. The baby that they treasure needs to grow. They need to let the baby leave the nest.
Wherever the players take the game, let it happen. Don't resist it. Go with the flow. The players are farming to get their toons up to 50 fast.. Just let it happen. It's what the players want. It's what the players are doing. Just relent and let it go devs. We know you mean well, but sometimes you forget that we players are the ones who determine where the game should go, not you.
It's hard, I know, but we love this game because of certain things that are fun. Leveling toons this way was fun. I fear that now that you've nerfed it, this game will once again become stagnant and a golden opportunity will slip right out of your hands. A month from now, ask yourselves whether your server activity and subscriptions have grown in leaps and bounds?
Just take a deep breath.. Think about it. -

I'll add to the chorus of Australians who get irritated by not being able to log on during peak hours.

That's because the devs still think that all Australians drive around looking for gasoline in modified dune buggies, wearing leather and mohawks asking for directions to Bartertown.

OMG ITS ISSUE 15!!
too early? :P
<_<
>_>
[/ QUOTE ]
Now that's just silly....Everyone knows that they are skipping Issue 15 and going straight to Issue 28 to avoid all those nasty little bugs and patches from issue 15-27.
So what will be in issue 28?
Well everyone that has sent a private tell to a high level player begging for influence/infamy or a teleport to the tailor will get their very own Segway. YES.. Now you don't have to walk all that way like the rest of us, you can just hop on your lazy-mobile and it will automatically take you any where you want to go in any zone. (bling optional)
Also, with your Segway, you will have every IO set waiting for you when you log in with 10 trillian inf. so you can buy things you don't need or understand. Not only that, but you'll be auto leveled to 50. I mean, come on, why work at playing and enjoying any game when you could just be level 50. All your new vet friends will be impressed by your charging into the mob and dying faster than a Pauly Shore film in a muslim country, and then asking "y R I die?" and "I cn dans, giv me inf?"
One good thing though, they will finally be fixing that silly little email thing where even though someone has hit the spam button on the spammers, deleteing them from all servers, their message still sits in your box stating; "empty". Now, in issue 28 all those emails will just go to your regular email accounts outside the game so you don't have to worry about spending 10-15 mins. of your game time sending petitions and whatnot.
And, if you pre-order now, you will get your very own personal I R WINNER button and pocket Hamidon. Don't feel like earning your way through the game? No problem, just hit the I R WINNER button and kill everything on every map in every zone on every mission and just sit back raking in all that inf. and drops from everyone on every server. Or just hop on your blinged out Segway and just drag ol' Hami through the low level areas, killing everything in it's path and make many, many friends along the way. -
On open beta and now Live I get the whole system lock up thing. Everytime I'm in the MA, if I click on anything it will randomly and without warning, lock up my entire system. I've complained about this for a while now with no real answers solutions from the GM's.
Just tonight at 9:24pm central 04/09/2009, I was in mission architect editing my groups powers and such. All I did was click on a minion in the left window in group editor and my entire system locked up. I couldn't ctrl/alt/delete out nothing worked. Had to hard shutdown my system.
Now I can't even enjoy issue 14 in all it's splendor or I have a total system lock up failure. Booooo....! >.< -
I contacted AMD/ATI (AMD owns ATI) to see if they have been communicating with PlayNC about changes made to issue 12-13 and the soon to be released issue 14 and they haven't responded yet. I would urge folks that own an ATI card like I do to go to their website (do a google search for ati drivers) and tell them to update or contact the vendor or CoH PlayNC Inc. or PlayNC norcal.
With enough voices they might actually fix their drivers since CoH seems to hate ATI cards at the moment.
They list just about every online or PC game at their support website except City of Heroes, so I'm guessing they have not updated their drivers at all nor have spoken with PlayNC norcal to find out what changes took effect after issue 12-13.
It just seems that there's little difference between catalyst 8.0 to 9.3. and these problems have not been addressed even after AMD bought ATI. -
Job: Horse Groomer/Pony Tamer
Loc: Log out near Ms. Liberty.
---------------
Grants a chat window icon so whenever you type in chat a unicorn graphic pops up showing how flaming [censored] you've become .
Come on, we all know that Ms. Liberty is a closet fan girl. Anime up the wazoo, a few SailorMoon costumes and her bed covered in plushies. Ya, she rolls like that. That's HOT. -
I read a few posts about this idea and a defection type system based on the "leaked survey" that hit the forums that even BeefCake confirmed, that would allow a Hero or Villain to slowly defect to the other side.
I think it would be a great idea. I would love to defect over to Paragon City and have my Night Widow start a life of heroism. Or have my Blaster turn heal and begin a life of crime. Maybe somewhere in between perhaps, a double agent.
It would add to the overall story line's dynamic that some folks aren't as cookie cutter as you think they should be. Sometimes, good people have dark secrets and bad people can impress you with good manners and kindness. Adding this into the game would be just too good and expand the fruity goodness of the game.
I would also like to be able to raid a city on blue/red side. I want to kill Ms. Liberty in Atlas or Ghost Widow in Grandville. I'd love to ban together with hero or villain and attack a city. It would be tough, but would be sooo fun.
Also might have to consider raising the level cap to 60 with all new world content, zones and whatnot for 50+. Might have to be a store bought expansion as the content would be ginormous. In the survey they eluded to this (lvl 55 cap I believe) with a space station as the new 50+ only hazard zone.
Someone also mentioned that it would be cool if the expanded the zone maps and added underwater terrain to all the water ways in CoX to usher in the "Coralax City". (We've never really seen what a true Coralax looks like, only Coralax hybrids). It would be nice to see their underwater city for the first time... and kill them
Can you picture the large colored spires in the Ocean's deep? To swim down deeper than traveling across the Hollows where light turns an eerie blue and fish swim past you? A City of lights and tubes that connect every part of the City together.
Maybe a grand entrance into the dry city of glass, stone and crystal tubes and windows you can look out of. Where you can see the seaweed sway as dolphins, sharks and an occasional dead mook body drift by beautifully. -

Just went to the prescribed link given by Lighthouse: http://www.plaync.com/us/support/doc_4487.html
to fix my LAG issues.
And I get this message:
"Operation Failed" - "Illegal parameter"
I tried the link in both Mozilla and IE and both state the same message. Proof again that my LAG is server side and not my machine. -

Hmmm, Poking through the links quickly, it seems they all point to issues with the client not the servers. I am sorry being in IT I know for a fact that servers have issues as well. Especially after updating when it seems most of the problems re-emerge.
Sorry not buying it.
[/ QUOTE ]
But being in IT you would also know that if 99% of your users are online without problems, then the 1% having problems will not be caused by server problems or misconfiguration on the server side.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, whenever there is a new patch, the weeks after are plagued with a lot of lag. After a month or two the lage ceases until the very next patch. The difference is the # of players on the server. I'm not sure if where the lag comes form (no particular issue jumps out) but lag does increase a great deal with each and every patch immediately after the patch and then tapers off as people stop playing.
So, apart from framerate lag, there is some kind of issue with the servers or the code, or something generating extra lag. I know that sounds goofy but if you've been playing long enough to remember i1 then you remember a lot less lag from the game overall even with a big load of players.
Having problems re-emerge might be more of patch bugs but the lag is omnipresent for weeks after new patches. It would be nice to hear Dev's chime in about that. It could be lack of bandwidth due to downloads of the patch but I'd hope that the patch would be on separate servers and circuits than the servers we play on. If not then there's your issue, too many IO's. It could be the servers need an update to handle the new code since i7 and CoVeven though the "dots" show green almost all the time on most servers. it could be that the game renders too much and renders player characters no matter their distance on a map which would explain lag outside. I could think of a lot more but until the Dev's or tech support are more forthcoming, we'll never know.
BTW, it's not 1% having issues. It's much much more of this forum would be a dead spot and my entire SG would not continually ask me for tech support. IMO.

I have a newer computer running a dedicated DSL line with a very, very fast thoughput and live in Missouri. My friend lives in Los Angeles with a Cable Modem and an older system using ata133 drives, also on a fast connection.
Both of us are experiencing the same exact lag, freezes, stutters and rubber banding. Now how can two people with completely dissimilar machines and video cards, on completely different data lines and routers be having the same exact problems?
I vote it's a server problem. -

ATI makes great video cards, that just happen not to play well with CoX.
Nvidia makes video cards almost as well, that just happen to play well with CoX.
A high-end card from either manufacturer will be sufficient for almost anyone.
However, specific needs/uses of the individual will influence which card is better for your system.
For your system, it sound like you need a better cooling system, not so much a better card. Or, it might be over-clocked a bit too much.
But, I don't really know anything.

As long as they don't cut your funding, reduce it or downsize your dev team, I'm all for this merger.
Glad to hear you're retaining creative control. That's a great sign. I was worried that PlayNC Inc. might trash Cryptic as most corporate folks often do after a merger.
