I'd like to add to all of the above good advice my reccomendation that you visit the Market and Inventions forums. There are several excellent guides and information there that will allow you to make boatloads of influence even while you are logged off.
Oh man do I suck at market stuff. I'm always impressed with what other people can do with it, but I suck at it myself.

Babymage is almost 4, and very excited about starting junior kindergarten in September.

Lady, I realize that you may never have needed the fitness pool, but it IS inherent now and you CAN put slots into it! At the very least, put a Health IO into Health, and a End Mod into Stamina to make use of your free fitness abilities.

Also, the Purple Sleep IO set, Fortuna Hypnosis, is VERY cheap for a purple set. You should plan on grabbing that to place into Mass Hyp. Better bonuses and everything.

Finally, a question, is there any reason the level ranges on your enhancements are all over the place? Are you planning your build around IOs you already have, maybe?
Yeah, only ever had fitness on her when I took a hissy fit over ED. Respecced right back out of it when I realized it wasn't as bad as I thought. I believe, but am not 100% positive that I have put level 50 IOs in all the auto slots in the fitness powers now. I'll check into the purple sleep set, and the reason the level ranges are all over the place is that IOs when they first came out were very expensive, so I used a lot of what I could find quickly. That's not a planned build, that's a direct export of what I had pre-respec.

    1. Doctored Wounds is a very effective and cheap IO set that works really well for slotting about 5 per power that will accept it. DW offers some very nice bonuses in the Recharge and Healing areas. Right off the bat, you can add an easy +20% bonus recharge.

    2. For me, Hover, Fortitude, Maneuvers, and Vengeance are the 4 powers I looked to slot that nifty +7.5% recharge proc from LOTG. For you, none of those powers require slotting much these days (I slot 3 Membranes + 1 LOTG in Fortitude).

    3. Recovery Aura is a good candidate for slotting the rare recovery set x5. You will see some nice bonuses from that.

    4. You should really look into what attacks you can slot with the Positron's Blast set. PB offers a nice bonus to recharge with it. In all, I have 4 of my secondaries slotted (PB set in 2 powers) and get nice bonuses from those sets.

    5. Except for the things I mentioned above, you really do not need a lot of expensive stuff to make your character well-IO'd. My empath has 0 purples and the most expensive stuff on him are 6 Membranes (3 in Fortitude and 3 in Power Build Up to use with Vengeance, etc) and a few choice "procs" to boost over all efficiency.

    6. I would aim to get the Tier 4 Spiritual alpha incarnate. It offers a huge benefit to an Empath in terms of healing and recharge.

    Hope that helps!
If you notice, I already have both doctored wounds and Posi's blast slotted in most of the appropriate powers. My new slotting of fort (not above) is identical to what you describe. And while I've not been back all that long, I already have the first tier of spiritual alpha power.

Precisely. I exported it to work on out of game, started combing through patch notes to find out if any significant changes to the game would affect the build, quickly became crosseyed and decided to post here for help.

I kid you not! That is a ver batum of what I had, the moment I saw it, I thought of this thread.

    IT HAS BEGUN!
You mean it's back? I honestly don't think it ever really left. After levelling my main to 50 I learned to /hide most of the time. In general, even when you're an empath, any team asking for a healer is one you want to run from, and run screaming.

    Targeting Self

You couldn't even target yourself in late beta. It's never been a feature of this game. The Op is misremembering.
  5. While I appreciate the effort, Psi scream is a huge enough cone already. I get in large trouble with it as it is I drive the tanks in my SG nuts with the amount of aggro I grab with it I did swap some things around, and added a slot to fort to keep my three hammis and add a LOTG global recharge. I will think over some of your slotting choices though - they're quite different than what I had picked.

    Healing Aura - 4 slots - Numina's Conv...

    Heal Other - 6 slots - 5 Doctored Wounds / 1 common IO Recharge

    Absorb Pain - 4 slots - Numina's Conv

    Resurrect - 3 slots - Recharge common IO's

Clear Mind - 1 Slot - Reduce Endurance Cost SO or IO

Fortitude - 4 slots - Luck of the Gambler

Recovery Aura - 6 slots - Efficacy Adapter

Regeneration Aura - 5 slots - Doctored Wounds

Adrenalin Boost - 1 slot - Recharge. (Unless adding healing or Endurance based enchancements to it makes a big difference, admitedly, this power I was least sure of what to do with, or rather, had least idea what to do with)
For some reason everyone thinks they have to slot healing ad nauseum in an empath build. Healing is not king, RECHARGE is. Your last 4 powers are on a hideous recharge so anything to help whittle that down is awesome. Therefore, go for broke with the doctored wounds. All three heals and regen aura at least, and adren boost could use it too.

I would 6 slot Heal aura. It's the only heal that affects you, and if you go down, you're not going to be terribly helpful to your team. As I said above doctored wounds.

Ressurrect should pretty much be last on your list for slotting. A single recharge is good here.

CM I actually slot range, but end isn't bad either, but then I play to the back of the pack with my empath being psi. Another power that doesn't require much.

AP should be doctored wounds, at least enough to get the +rech bonus.

Recovery aura - Honestly when it's up, the bars are full, with rare exception and tier 9s obviously. It really doesn't need MOAR recovery. I toss 3 regular recharges in it and call it done.

Adren boost is AWESOME. 5-6 slot that puppy, the person you hit with that will thank you. Either recharges or DW.
  7. *waves to tempest and bill*

Holy crow - my hammis went for 225 mil a piece. I think I can afford more than originally thought.....
  8. Oh, I definitely will be going for something in teh spiritual for the alpha slot. I'm well aware of how much recharge is a must for a good Empath build, thus all the doctored wounds etc in the build already.

It's good to hear that not much has changed on that front. I have so many characters to play with and figure out what's changed, that it's good to have my rock to cling to. I'll have to crunch the numbers a bit, swap the slots around, and then save up the precious inf for the global recharges and purples.

And I'm going to have to read up on the alignment stuff. That's all new to me, and while my empath is pretty dyed in the wool hero it sounds like there's profit to be had there. I do have some characters who will be alignment shifting.

Good to be back! Time to shake the rust off and get back to blowing stuff up!
  9. First off, a big wave to everyone who's been here long enough to remember me. I spent way too much time here back in the day, but that day was quite a while ago. I've missed this place!

Now, my problem. Since it's been SO long, I'm going crosseyed going through patch notes. Over two years worth of patch notes and issue updates is enough to make anyone's brain hurt. So I'm going to pick your brains instead. I'm going to be posting a succession of builds for review, starting with my namesake, my Empath/Psi blast defender. She's my oldest and still favorite character, so be gentle in your review. I will post other defenders later in their own threads. I forgot how many defenders I had.....

I already know that my slotting of fly is antiquated and will be changing. Not sure what I'm going to do with the excess slots yet, to say nothing of the hammis, but that is one change I'm going to be making for sure. She will still be a flyer, concept will not let me get rid of it, but hover may make the chopping block. I think - I'll have to double check to see if I have that option amongst my vet badges.

Also inf is an issue. While I'd love a purpled build, it's just not going to happen right now. I can likely afford most things reasonably priced, but let's not get too carried away.

    TIA!

Actually, you're way off. We're tired of groups stopping dead unless someone is sitting in the back with heal aura on auto. We're tired of being, as defenders with all manner of shiney buttons and neat tricks to help our teams, told just "just sit back and heal". We're tired of being told that defender x is a proper defender because he/she has a heal and does nothing but spam it. It's not uncommon for these "healers" to not even BE empathy defenders - I've seen rad defenders billing themselves as healers, skipping entire swaths of awesome rad powers to take medicine and rock Radiant aura. It's enough to make you cry.

There is little if any Empathy defender hate on this forum, and there never has been. How do I know? I've been playing one since the game launched and have been posting on this forum just as long. It's the bad players, the ones that insist on having a healer and those bad players who play this amazing buff set as a portable green number generator that gets most of us. Empath != healer. They are SO incredibly much more than that.
  11. Well, I'm glad things worked out for you, even if it did cause a little redface.

I canceled my account just under two years ago, and it was inactive until August 6th (8/6), when I received an e-mail offering me a free gametime and an in-game jetpack for one month, to which I promptly renewed.

As I was curious, I took it.

I'm having fun in my return, but nothing extraordinary. However, my wife is going out of town the weekend of 9/10, and I decided that it would be a fun weekend to spend in the Rogue Isles/Paragon. So I checked my account to see that my account is only playable until 9/6. Oh no!

So I bought a one month subscription at $14.99...

And my account still says it expires on 9/6.

The e-mail I was sent says my next payment will be due on 9/6.

    Is that intended?

If so, what the eff for?

Is it not logical that the paid time would be applied at the point that my free time would expire?

If not, wouldn't it be almost as logical too apply the month from the date at which it was bought, therefore the account would then expire one month from today, on 9/25?

On what planet is it logical for me to have basically just wasted $14.99 and not gotten anything in return?

Thanks. I'm waiting for a response from Support, but I'm fuming at the proposition of just wasting my $15 for no reason and needed to get some sort of explanation, reasoning or understanding.
Actually if anything the month you purchased should kick in AFTER the free month. But let me know how this goes, because I'm on a free month too, and want to make the most of it.

So I stuck AB on the Kin Defender and then he alone was able the cripple the GM from super fast Transfusions.

It also benefits from a keen eye on the debuff window of your team which allows you to predict incoming attacks and heal it up fast. Sometimes that is the only way to save a squishy. E.g: At low level and you are fighting trolls, if the blaster has 3 "throw boulder" cons on his debuff bar then you know he is going to be taking some damage.

Ultimately though every set benefits from this kind of knowledge, but I do feel some sympathy for Empaths. There is a lot of stupid associated with the set and its a shame for people who are actually really good with it, but what can you do. :-)
Agreed. Playing an empath *well* is how I learned much of what I did early on in the game. You get to learn the strengths and weaknesses of the sets around you pretty darn quick. It is not easy to play an empath really well, particularly if your team is light on primary support ATs.

As for the "pure healers" becoming extinct with GR, sadly bad players are like cockroaches - they'll be here long after everyone else is long gone. I'm not going to go as far as to say that all empaths who advertise themselves as "pure healers" are bad players, but most are in my experience.

    RealID vs NGE: FIGHT!
That's a toughy. *breaks out the popcorn* I actually had to look up realid, and man, terrible idea. And I've never seen anyone get turned off a game so fast as my husband did when they announced NGE, so yeah.
  16. Don't know about that, but I know they're already reaching out to people with inactive subs. They sent me a free code for 30 days game time because I cited financial reasons as my main reason for leaving.
  17. Neat build, but really *really* unnecessary. I've been running a staminaless empath forever. I made her in headstart, and while I did respec her into stamina for a while, I realized very quickly that it wasn't necessary at all. It's one of the few builds I've found that I can run without stamina and still keep up.

I'll second (third? Fourth?) that an empath's build benefits very greatly from a focus on recharge. I remember a long (LONG) time ago someone making a crack about me having to replace all my green enhancements, and they were floored when I told them that I had WAY more black (recharge) in my build than green. The last four buffs are on a hideously long timer, ANYTHING at all that gets that down is a benefit to your team, and in the case of the RAs, to you. Also if you can keep the recharge high, endurance pretty well resolves itself, as RA means never seeing the bottom of your blue bar, unless you're nuke happy like me. Some of the psi attacks are on longish timers too if I recall correctly - my own Empath/psi has a 50% global recharge bonus (120% with hasten up) and the difference in playing her is rather awesome since I got her IOed out.
  18. Thanks everyone. More ammunition to my argument as to why I need to buy it sooner than later when I talk to the husband.

Indeed it has. She knows her colours, can count to 10 (and sometimes even get the numbers in the right order!) converses better than some PUG members I've met, and she'll be 3 in October.
  20. I've looked through the FAQ and done forum searches, but I can't find an answer to this very basic question.

If I don't purchase GR will I be able to have characters switch sides? Is it a feature of only Going Rogue, or is it a new addition to the basic game?

I understand that I won't be able to visit Praetoria, and I get that, but will I be able to take existing characters and change their alignments? I want to purchase GR, and probably will eventually, but I'm not sure I can fit it into the budget for a bit.
  21. You generally get better help on builds in the forum belonging to that AT. That's not to say you won't get any here, but more minds together on the same subject means more apt responses.

Incidentally DM/SR is one of my favorite builds, but I've been gone for the better part of a year, so I'm not up to date enough on the changes to begin to help you. Good luck!

Thanks! Yep, I've been gone since December, with I think one return for a reactivation weekend. Our friends at NcNc decided to send me a 30 day reactivation code, so I'm poking around again for a while.
  23. I'm a mom to a 2.5 year old. I don't get days off.
  24. Heck, I've only played sporadically, month here, month there since my daughter was born nearly 3 years ago (OMG, was it really that long ago?) and I can still completely bypass rooms on some maps because I know nothing's in them. Again, as others have said occasionally the game will throw you a curve ball, but not often.
  25. Most of my heroes are dyed in the wool heroes. They're simply not going to fall. At least not until something serious pops into my brain as a reason for it. I did have one hero who fell, but I did it the old fashioned way YEARS ago and rerolled her from fire/fire tank to fire/fire brute, which I enjoy playing more anyway. Now she's to the point in her development that I may turn around and redeem her - the pain and rage that caused her to fall is ebbing somewhat as she grows up. Going to be taking a hard look at the rest of my heroes and villains and see which side they really belong to.
