  1. I posted this a few weeks back on the Brutes forum.

Like it or not, this change was inevitable. Whenever a PL method becomes this good, it gets nerfed. Its just the way of things and how it has been done since this game has been out.
  2. Goal is for optimal farming speed, and them running away cuts into that so much that it is no longer feasible to even compete with a brute's speed. Yes... of course I can just let them run away, but thats an obstacle I am looking to overcome.
  3. I recently made a fire/fire blaster and have loved farming with it except for one major issue.

All of the minions and LTs are dead in no time which eventually leaves me just bosses. I could easily kill them if it werent for them constantly running away. Any advice on dealing with this? Ive even gone so far as to contemplate a build with provoke.

Havent tried a corruptor, but I dont see that working too well.
  5. Old techniques being the old BP/Rikti/Ninja farms.

The fire/fire blaster that I made is an attempt at farming with something different. Initial tests show some promise, but ultimately, I dont think it has a chance with the mobs scattering every so often.
  6. Been awhile since I've posted here, but I had a little accomplishment today that I want to brag about.

    - Dual Box PL (I was controlling both accounts from the same comp)
    - PL'r was my SS/FA Brute
    - Used the FIRE! mission

    Here are the results.

Never thought PLing would surpass the old techniques, but incarnates + ambush farms have accomplished that.
  7. Clicking is never a good idea in pvp in any game. However, this game is more forgiving as there are less powers to use (movement being tougher makes up for this). At the very least, I would suggest making sure that you are not clicking emergency things like phase shift or inspirations. The extra split second will make the difference.

Back before I left the first time, JAL was like the whipping boy of the PvP SGs. Everyone that fought them would beat them by a wide wide margin. I remember a Penance vs JAL match where I scored 61 kills on my ice/devices blaster.

    From my perspective...

Before there were ever SG v SG matches, there were whole server fights. Server v Server was the original standard and the matches were basically scaled down to whatever side brought the least people. Virtue and Freedom dominated these, with Freedom being the top dog. Virtue had the numbers, Freedom had an extremely buffed Johnny Priest. With multiple emps backing him, he literally could tear through anyone with ease.

Aside from the server matches, several SGs started to show promise. These included (ranked accordingly)...

Tribute (originally called Top Ten) - Freedom
    Hell Raisers - Protector
    Lions Den - Victory
    Bots - Justice

(LD did beat HR in an official match. However, the match was 14v10 with 2 HR DCs making it 14v8. HR never had a big roster and Rift, leader of LD, refused to sit anyone)

Tribute simply dominated all comers. Like it has been mentioned, they were just leagues ahead of any other team. The only loss Tribute ever received was not in an official, but just a random scrim on test. The opposing team was myself and Krole on empaths, ReMix and Ice.Master on ice/EMs, and for the life of me I cannot remember the 5th person. Aside from that, Tribute never lost on an all Tribute team.

After awhile, Tribute became bored with the game and the lack of competition so most left for Guild Wars (not WoW). After Tribute left the dominate SGs were

    Penance - Victory
    Freaks - Liberty
    HVND - Champion

HVND was a very secretive SG that never ever appeared on test. When they fought Penance using their turtle strategy, nothing like it had ever been seen before, and Penance was no where near ready. After HVND's win, some of their members became very vocal about being not only the top SG at the time but ever. This prompted a Tribute reunion for one last match. Tribute won 2 rounds to 0.

It was around this time that the Freaks started the whole concept of practice. Before this, practices just didnt happen. Due to hard work and dedication, Freaks ended up with solid wins over both Penance and HVND to take the top spot during this time.

    3. PvP Experience: HVND for 6 months-1 year, FoL for about 2 months, and tons of 1 v 1 experience on Freedom before I started playing for teams.
    4. Live and Test are fine. Preferably test for real matches, but doesn't matter.
    5. Time available really varies. I'm a college kid. My life is hectic.
    6. I've got both Vent/TS and a working headset with functional mic.

    7. I've been PvPing for probably about 2 years now, though I haven't had much experience lately. I'd like to start experimenting with more support oriented roles, since I've been blasting my whole career.
    8. Personal Best-Played Archetype: Definitely Blaster, as its what I'm known for playing (I can target call and follow targets if required) but, like I said, I'd like to attempt to start playing a support role (emping, more specifically).

can we petition to make all rules waivable and that rules can be agreed upon by sg leaders when matches are set up... IMO the two sg/vgs thats are fighting should be able to decide what they want.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Agreed on this. The ladder is not big enough to have any set-in-stone type rules, especially one like this where it can either be abused or be completely harmless.
  18. sounds like a lot of fun. Will definately be signing up a team
  19. Does lacuna still actually play?
  20. Havent read through the whole thread yet, but the two things that need to get changed before anything else is the toggle animation bug and the harmful icon bug. Theyre both really lame, and need to get fixed soon.

They won't. They'll get one and log out to reset it.

Is that true? So you can farm a mission, log out, and when you get back in it will reset?

    5. Merge the markets. Two other major MMOs, EQ2 and WoW, both allow the opposing factions to sell to the other. There's no reason to keep an artificial separation in CoH/V, especially since the entire process in this game is blind --

    [/ QUOTE ]

There's a fundamental reason to never do this, well at least not for several years. CoH existed for such a long time before CoV that the economies are completely offsync. Typically everything in H costs and sells for about double what it does in V. If you merge the markets, the V side will be sucked DRY. And while it will shift some money to the V side, it would take a VERY long time for that to equalize. Sorry if that doesn't seem to make sense but if you've had any college-level Economics it should be clear.

As to the main point, COOL. I think this is a very fair and balanced change. It's not even going to be noticed by myself and all my friends. We play together, and if a couple people got disconnected by a storm or something, we'd STOP the TF and wait for them, even switching to alts and resuming another day. We're just casual like that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

As Inspector 6 pointed out, when was the last time you actually looked at the markets? I think you have things switched around. LotGs hero side are going for like 30-40 million. Dont think ive ever seen one go for more then 45 million. Villain side, they are going for a minimum of 40 million, with a few going for upwards of 85 million. Everything is much more costly on villain side.

And onto your second point... so it doesn't effect you in anyway but you approve of the change? Can I consider this guy as grief'ing me? If it doesnt effect you, and it negatively effects others, why support it?
  23. [ QUOTE ]
Maybe it's time for a discussion thread (not this one) about what all needs fixing about task forces/strike forces/trials? The only good thing this change may accomplish is pay attention to other things that need doing. The need to replace people who drop, the unrealistic minimum numbers, the the problems with tfs blueside and shortage redside, and bugs (tech in LRSF, a number in Eden, and elsewhere).

    [/ QUOTE ]

    From a PvPers perspective...

    - do something with the TF commander so that the most PvE-demanding accolade is not required in PvP. One option would be to switch the bonuses you get from TF Commander and The Atlas Medallion.

    - Decrease the number of Pool C recipe drops. Taking out the less desired recipes and putting them in another pool would increase the number of desired recipes and stabalize the market. The cost of some recipes are getting out of hand, and are already unreachable to the casual player. This change will only worsen that.
  24. Claiming that this change was simply lost in the process is a cop-out. You guys managed to make a whole seperate patch for this change...

    [ QUOTE ]
    • Fixed issue with Wedding Veil. Previously it was 2-tone (matching one color to the color of the character’s hair), and it was opaque.
It is now monocolored, translucent, and not linked to the character's hair color.

    [/ QUOTE ]

but arguably the biggest gameplay change in the patch gets "lost".

When it comes to the actual change, like many have said, I am very very against it. THe reason that I play this game is for test PvP. There, the competition is extremely heavy, and builds need to be min/maxd to be able to compete with the best. This means that all toons you want to PvP with need the TF Commander accolade. Ive done all of the TFs many times and I frankly hate doing them. However, I have to for the sake of keeping up with the rest of the crowd. Now that I cant solo them, I cannot even imagine attempting to do them, which means Im done with new toons.

You claim that this change was made for the sake of preventing farming, but that just doesnt make any sense. Casual gamers and non-farmers are going to be doing TFs much less now, because getting together a TF is going to be a massive pain as all players will need to stay on team. Farmers, however, will still be able to farm TFs and still get all of the recipes they want. Because there are less on the market, the price of these recipes will go up, and because people arent doing TFs, the demand will go up. The farmers are going to benefit from this change more then they will be hurt.

This change was made with good intentions, but it is going to cause much more harm then good by a long shot.
