Thanks for the welcoming back, Da_Captain.
Yes I'd like Nin to stay with Stalkers but I think that if a lot other people want the set on scrappers, it's good for them.
But yeah as I said, psi resistance is the one we Ninjitsu Stalkers get, and can be double-stacked for a good while on a high recharge build to 45%, but that's all (sorry for saying it's a toggle). The toxic res doesn't really get much use since it's tied to the heal. Dark armor can cap the psi res if you go nuts on the IOs, but that's not a def set
And the DDR is laughable, it's still the defense set with the least DDR of them all (at least from scraps and stalks, haven't checked ice and stone armors).
As for what you said... I can get a /SR to 43.4% m/r/aoe def with common IOs (that's taking CJ, Weave and Maneuvers), meaning you'd only need a steadfast unique to get to 46.4% and 110% DDR (I think it's capped to 95%, Mids doesn't say that). So yeah, SR does need one IO to soft cap, although 43.4% is damn fine already. Actually I can get to 44.5% if I overslot the powers with 4 lvl 50 defense IOs, but let's stay with 3-slotting lvl 50 generic defense IOs.
Let's see Ninjitsu... 3-slotting generic def IOs to toggles, CJ, Maneuvers and Weave gets me to 34.5% def, if you add 6% (5.94%) of a 3-defense slotted cloak of darkness that gets you to 40.5%, a very good number but still not close to softcapping without IOs like you said. And the DDR is only 34.6%
Sure BP can help close the gap, but bear in mind it's a 120 second base recharge power, with a base duration of only 11.9 seconds on the sleep and 23 seconds on confuse which only has the 50% chance on minions. The tohit debuff lasts for 15 seconds (had to check CoData) and the duration cannot be enhanced, only the debuffage (from 7.5 to 11.9%). I think BP should have a 60 sec base recharge, after all Shields gets the 90-sec telenuke of doom.
So I guess counting SO/generic IO builds, SR and Ninjitsu kinda even out, assuming scrappers would get a Cloak of Darkness clone. SR is a tighter build since Nin Scrappers would probably skip Smoke Flash and whatever goes instead of Caltrops, but they would likely keep the tier 9 for aditional defense and DDR, since they don't have Shadow Meld like the PPP Stalker power (Kuji in Retsu gets you to 69% DDR plus ungodly defense like Elude).
And hey, SR gets Quickness, I love that power.
But you're right about the KB hole, it's not a big deal, 2 KB IOs and you're good to go. At the time I wrote that, I was trying to accomodate enough KB IOs on my EM/Nin to get to 41 or 45 pts because of the stupid new PvP that I still haven't tried.
Although I also don't want the set ported to scrappers, I think it would be a well rounded and popular set, but not OP like high-end Shields with their +maxHP, res to everything but psi, status protection that includes fear, confuse, repel and KB, +damage aura that actually lets you hold aggro like /invul, 95% DDR and the mininuke.
And yeah it would be a good AV soloer, I got Ghost Widow to 10% health on relentless before she used black hole on me and regenerated so fast I gave up and used a Shiv (that was before the Stalker dmg and HP buff), and on an Invincible ITF with the R.Offenders the team wiped instantly at the computer on wave 3 and I soloed it on the EM/Nin, took ages but the robots didn't hit me at all. Then again, people here are soloing AVs with pratically any set. -
Well I just returned after more than 1 year and created a DB/Elec scrapper, I put 'An excellent addition to any team!' in my search box and it's been working so far.

Oh hai Rick! I've been busy, got burned out in i13/14 and just came back, I was trying to play Perfect World International (really pretty F2P MMO) but I missed the action in this one, PW was nice and all but too much like WoW.
I'll hit you on global when I'm on so we can lolPvE and lolteam on lolVirtue -
I returned yesterday since i13 and this thread is still strong and pretty.
<3
(had to post in a pretty color)
And I still have my Brute in Infinity from the failed WM/EA superteam attempt...

Well I gave you 10% more recharge (Oblits in Soul Drain and SMaul) and added a 3rd LoTG on CJ and Lucky for HP bonuses (I stripped 2 slots from Tough, so if you don't want the hp bonuses and want to use tough I'd recommend slotting with the Steadfast unique plus 2 res/end HOs). Also got you a HP bonus by slotting another Numina in Health and a recov bonus with the other Miracle, I removed the chance for BU in FA (5% chance of BU every ten seconds is too low IMHO)
I'm not good at calculating attack chain numbers, so some expert will have to come here and tell you if you have enough for the Smite-SL-MG chain for AVs and such, but if you do, you won't need Shadow Punch. That's why I replaced it with Shadow Maul in the build, so you can get the same melee def from Oblit plus 5% recharge, and Shadow Maul is great since you said it's for teaming too. I can reliably hit 3-5 mobs with it in teams since they buffed the melee range to 7 feet.
Just what I'd do, or as I said remove the 2 Lotgs I added to CJ and Lucky and put 2 res/end HOs in Tough.
I won't touch your SL slotting, mine is different but you might wanna check this thread: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=126768

Well I gotta say, I perfectly understand you. My only scrapper at level 50 is a DM/DA. She was my second toon, my first one was a Mind/Emp troller, which I deeply love.
I loved the DM/DA playstyle! Haven't played her since I returned (so she's still slotted with only heal for Siphon Life) but hey, I had no Tough and didn't worry about damage types since /dark resisted almost all of them well and I had dark regen, SL and OG to ignore minions.
I had to pseudotank twice (again, no tough) with my DM/DA with TANKERS on the team, all the way through 2 extensive arcs. One arc was full of psionic damage (carnies) and the Fire/Fire tanker couldn't handle it, so he was minion-munching while I took on bosses and mezzes annoying lts / other bossses with Touch of Fear.
In the other arc, the (Neuron? It's been a long time) robot with rad blasts were tearing through the Ice/whatever Tanker's defense, so I went 'tanking' again. It was energy damage, our weakness, but I had OG to ignore minions, ToF to mez others and SL+DR to heal me.
I never took another scrap to 50 again. Claws/SR was too boring at 30ish (because of /SR not Claws) so I kinda abandoned her for now, took a Fire/Invul to 35 and I felt the same, great damage and a good taunt aura but I felt like something was missing.
I just returned and I'm trying a DB/Elec because I like Elec Armor, especially since I saw it was buffed (my 36 SM/Elec broot has aid self lol) and never tried DB.
But yeah, just to say I understand you and I think you won't find another secondary as diverse as Dark Armor.
So, as primaries, I have no firm opinion on MA (great animations, effects a bit to varied but the stuns can stack) since I played the set till level 20 or so.
Fire is all damage, no mitigation, even Fire Blast has some way to mitigate damage (Rain of Fire), but Fire Melee, nothing. Range helps on BoF but I didn't like the power, its arc is only 30 degress, while Shadow Maul/SoM is 45 which I find way more acceptable. But even with FSC alone, Fire has good AoE and is great for hard targets, and the good ST attack chains don't require much recharge (well maybe the TOP attack chain requires it, but from what I've read all FM attack chains, recharge intensive or not, are close enough if you worry about DPS).
Elec Melee.... I personally think it sucks. Cool powers, cool animations, great AoE, but you'll take forever to kill a hard target. I tested my ELM/stone brute AND my DM/DA scrapper on invincible Cimerora missions. The DM/DA was faster even killing one at a time. The ELM was so slow on bosses, I could drain them before killing them, and I wasn't using Granite Armor because i wanted to test ELM's effectiveness with no penalties - and my fury was high all the time. I'd only play ELM again on a Stalker (because of AS, plus I <3 Stalkers) or on an Shield scrapper if I had 2 billion and wanted a farm toon because of the double tele-nukes, elec/shield seems like the perfect 'lazy farmer', when I left the game I was tired with Fire/Kin farming because of all the clickyness, with a high-recharge Elec/Shield build it seems I could just bind shift+click to L.Rod, ctrl+click to Shield Charge and that's it lol. -
Lol @ replying to myself, but here's another try... 140 less hp (with accolades), almost no regen but better recharge and m/r/aoe defs at 35.4/19.1/13.5 and s/l at 28.2:

Thanks a bunch for the tip on NR+Hurdle Werner! The numbers are much better than NR+Swift. And I'll still get L.Reflexes (Quickness) at 28 to boost my runspeed anyway.
And yeah I prefer positional def too. I mean, if I have defense, I want to feel like I have it all the time. On my 35% s/l def fire/kin I know I can't go crazy depending on enemy type, but he's a troller, I played him from 1 to 50 when leveling was hard so I don't mind adjusting. I wouldn't like tht kind of limitation on a scrapper if I build for def, so melee def it is, with some ranged and maybe AoE. I don't remember any AoE giving me much trouble onmy 50 dm/da scrapper (no tough, no defenses either) and IIRC s/l ranged attacks do not hit that hard right? After all my nrg res will be capped soon. I only had trouble with ranged attacks from elec outcasts who drained my end but I'll eventually have Stamina and end drain resistance.
I do feel I'll want defense anyway, this is the first scrapper that I make that is good at both AoE and taking out bosses so even at level 10-14 I just charged into the 8-man team mob, used BF - Typhoon's Edge - Sands of Mu to hit 3/5 mobs with SM (which will of course be replaced later with DB's great 90 degree cones), and ST attacks later on bosses. I never died, but only because of good support. I'm used to being the boss/threat killer on my 50 meleers (Em/Nin Stalk and DM/DA scrap), but DB/Elec seems like a perfect combo to jump into mobs and let loose, AND kill bosses too (unlike say, Spines or DM/EM which are good at one or the other). I also have a 50 elec/stone brute, but I hate elec melee, it takes forever and a day to kill bosses even at good fury (I tested this in Cimerora, out of Granite, my DM/DA was faster on the invincible missions killing one by one than my ELM brute with good fury - without granite so I could test this with no penalties - hitting all the mobs at once b/c the bosses took so long... I even drained some before killing them)
Well back to Mid's to see what I can take out for Weave and C. Jumpingany build suggestions would be awesome! I hope I don't have to use Touch of Death on Blinding Feint
-
Hmmm I'll check out the Mids numbers on Hurdle+NR and Swift+NR. I prefer running sometimes, I'm kinda lazy
Well Werner Elec is basically a normal resist set with a damage aura and a heal like Fire Armor. But it has great end recov tools (Energize gives an end discount and regen bonus for 30 sec, so ideally you'd want to perma Energize, but it's ona longish timer unlike Healing Flames), plus a recharge+runspeed bonus like SR. Oh, and it has capped energy res too, much better than fire's capped fire res (I'm level 10 and already have 52.6% nrg resistance with nothing slotted lol).
Well, if I build for defense, which kind do you recommend? It would drastically change my build if I ditch the regen bonuses, because then I wouldn't need PPerfection (elec gets PSink at 35 hence no end problems even with a single rech SO slotted, I have a 40ish stone/elec brute which was always an end hog before PS, and before we had Energize so I suffered till level 35). Then my focus would change to defense (melee I guess?) and recharge for getting Energize up more often, since Power Sink is already on a fast timer. I'll try to build something with lots of hp and some defense later when I stop playing, I just don't know if I build for melee, a mix of melee and ranged or s/l.
Well I guess s/l is not so good, I have a 35% s/l def fire/kin and he gets hit all the time when the mission has rikti, arachnos and stuff. The s/l def on this troller is more for pseudo-tanking when the damage is s/l and for the BM farm. -
Hey guys, just came back to the game after i13. So I made a DB/Elec scrapper because I love Elec Armor and haven't tried DB yet.
I'd like feedback on the build... It's for teaming, not sloing pylons and crazy stuff, so the IOs are all level 33 because of TFs and such. The 'lonely' IOs (such as the endmod in Stamina, the runspeed in swift, etc) will be level 50 of course. I want to run the BF-AV combo at higher levels.
Am I right in chasing the bonuses I've gone after? Basically max HP (hence the eradications) and regen, so with Energize my regen will skyrocket? I wish I could get more rech but most rech bonuses are 5% for PbAOEs and melee attacks so, well... Kinda hard and I don't know if I'll be able to afford purples later, my richest toon has like 800 mil and at the time you could purple out a toon with that, now I hear you can buy 4 pieces of a set with this money
Any suggestion will be very appreciated, like if there are better slottings for my attacks, if a defense build is worth it... Haven't tried it but it seems I'd have to sacrifice too much to get more than 30% melee or s/l def on this toon.
Btw since I restarted playing today and got her to level 10, I was so amazed by Ninja Run I'm considering switching super speed with the damage aura (I love them), and Ninja Run will be even better after L. Reflexes. I want to have a real travel power because AFAIK Ninja Run will be disabled in a master TF run right?
Ok, build below, thanks for any comments and suggestions!
Edit: changed power order to get L. Field and Grounded earlier because Ninja Run+Hurdle is just awesome

I don't think the pet will be of any use in PvP but as has been said, damage bonuses are always great on PVP Stalkers.
BP has a 50% chance to confuse a player and is much better with the proc from the purple set.
-
Quote:That's plain wrong. Ninjitsu is far from OP, it's just well-rounded.I don't see /Nin coming to scraps, it would be cool, but out the box without hide and caltrops it is OP for Stalkers, the reason it doesn't make stalkers themselves OP is because they don't do as much damage as Scraps do.
Any powers you replace Hide and Caltrops with would make it insanely OP to scraps.
With 2 powers you almost accomplish what /SR does in 6, a self heal, a -to hit/confuse/sleep, this is s**t hits the fan pull a batman and throw the smoke down and run away.
No idea what they' replace Caltrops with, but let's assume Hide would be replaced with a Cloak of Darkness clone:
1) Smoke Flash is the most skipped power in Nin Stalkers. C'mon, a PbAOE placate that doesn't let you crit? Big deal on a defensive set, even on SOs you won't be using it a lot, plus this power makes enemies aggro on your teammates.
2) Blinding Powder is mag TWO, that means it affects minions only. I only have it because of the cheap purple set for confuse (which provides a nice 5% ranged def when 6-slotted). And the power only gets moderately good when you have the Contagious Confusion proc, meaning level 50. Plus the chance to confuse is only 50%, and again, both the confuse and sleep are mag TWO. That means you won't be relying on it to get out of a situation where you're surrounded by lts or bosses. You can debuff their acc a bit, that's all.
3) Both powers are on a 120 sec base recharge. Shield has a mini nuke on a 90 sec base rech that does Kd and deals 500 damage or something like that with BU+AAO+slotting. A little better than Smoke Flash to 'escape' from a mob, yes?
4) Nin has no resistances like /SR or /Shields (except 22% psi res on the mez protection toggle)
5) Nin can never reach 95% DDR like SR or highly IO'ed out Shields. My fully Io'ed /Nin Stalker has a paltry 34.6% DDR according to Mid's, haven't checked in game yet because I returned today and didn't go play yet. Even Energy Aura can get to 51%ish DDR. Shields can reach 66%ish DDR on SOs, by slotting the def toggles and Grant Cover to max defense.
6) Nin has neither a recharge bonus like SR nor a taunt aura that raises your damage like Shields.
7) Defense would be almost as hard to soft cap as shields, nin toggles give 13.9% base def and shields 11.3%, with slotting they're about the same if you add shields' PhalanxF (which doesn't need slotting and is a passive). So maybe nin would get something like a 3-5% advantage in total def to softcap on a scrapper if it had a cloak of darkness clone, which would of course have to be slotted for endredux and defense.
8) Nin has the ******* knockback hole.
So, yeah.... Nin has a self heal, +perception (like SR) and a little psi resistance, besides some very situational toys on longish recharges (except caltrops but I don't use it anyway, I don't see many scrappers using caltrops either). What's so overpowered about that? Since i13 it's not even the Stalker FOTM in PvP anymore.
I think Ninjitsu fits Stalkers very well, I wouldn't like to see it in scrappers but that would be selfish of me if other people want it. And I view it as a well rounded set, not as a ZOMGWTFOP thing. Hell even scrappers experts like Shred_Monkey say that Shields is overpowered.
Edit : "Ninjitsu isn't OP in Stalkers because they do less damage than Scrappers"...? You really serious about that? So you think all other Stalker secondaries are underpowered since they are shared with Scrappers (except EA)? WTH dude... -
Quote:Meh, you got a point. I just put the build I have on live after some respecs. You should take B. Smasher at level 2 because getting to lvel 8 with one attack (besides AS) is painful. I'll update my guide later, took a year and some hiatus from the gameI like how in your description of the powers, you say grab Bone Smasher at level 2, yet both of your builds take Ninja Reflexes at level 2
The second build isn't mine btw, it's from someone who kindly gave me a PvP build because I was used to Siren's and wanted to show a RV capable build on the guide. But after i13 and the need for 41 pts of KB protection among other stuff, the second build is obsolete. -
I assume you mean Dark Melee as 'DA'. Great boss killer, sucky AoE (only Shadow Maul besides epic powers like Ball Lightning), so as Reiraku said, go Elec Melee, it's the only Stalker set with decent AoE, with Spines in second place, but really, Elec is better.
Also, Elec is the current FOTM in PVP, usually paired with WP or Regen.
As for your options, I'd go DM/EA because I like /EA a lot.
SR perks: +perception, great defense debuff resistance, recharge bonus.
EA perks: end draining power (sucky as a heal so don't bother slotting for it especially if you go DM) that lets you skip Stamina... And yeah, that's about it I think. Oh, and it's much prettier!
The good thing about DM is that you won't miss not having a decent heal because of Siphon Life with these secondaries. EA is also more expensive to soft cap because of typed defenses.
Here's an old IOed out build I have for my DM/EA (she's 30 now and I've returned to the game today since, idk, jan/2009) for PVE. For PVP you'd have to get things like stealth+stealth IO and chase damage bonuses and recharge (to be in Overload as much as possible) instead of capping defenses, and DM isn't so great for PVP anymore afaik. This build has capped s/l/e def and 44%ish negative (didn't bother with fire/cold), besides capped HP with accolades. I think I have BU at 8 and Power Shield at 14 in my live build. I don't miss Stamina even with her on SOs and Energy Drain poorly slotted.
