MY SS/Fire is only 34 and I have a build planned for him, but pretty much it follows all that Fiery_Enforcer said, except it doesn't have purples.
-
At 5, no. But at 10-14, a good soloing-capable toon like a scrapper or a powerhouse like a MM can overcome an EB with insps (MMs may not even need them lol).
-
Quote:I completely agree with the part I bolded, I was just stating the general behaviour the MO TFs on the channels (usually) show. They don't like melee except for the tank in most cases. How? a regen will have Dull pain which will put them at the max hit points, seeing that they both don't have good resis number that would put the regen in a better place, regen also have a heal too. Also I would assume on a MoSTF run they would have a Tank so the AV really shouldn't be attacking the Scrapper that much if at all depending on how good the Tank is.
I know about regen's strengths, but people have this perception from seeing so many (maybe bad) regens getting two-shotted when going against for example, 2 pink freak tanks, who aren't exacly big threats. This happens a lot especially while leveling and the regens don't have global recharge. The /SR can avoid getting hit much more easily and use greens. Of course you guys here build your regens to perform at top levels and have layered mitigations like some defense, but a lot of people view regens as very squishy. I know my elec/regen Stalker (my first regen ever) will have awesome survivability after she gets global rech and 30ish melee/25 ranged defs and shadow meld, but right now at 28 and SOs I find her lacking in survivability against groups of mobs compared to how my /ninjitsu was at that level, although I'm enjoying my regen a lot (yes I know Dull Pain is much better on a scrapper because of low stalker HP cap).
But assuming you're 100% right and I'm 100% wrong about the regen not being able to survive as well as a /SR, the perception that regens can die too fast exists. Add that to the 'prejudice' melee toons suffer in MoSTFs (except as I said, in groups of people who know you), and it's easy to understand why the OP is being turned down on Mo attempts. I mean, even non -Granite Tankers are usually not accepted on MoSTFs formed in channels. And as I wrote before, leaders (MoSTFs almost always have someone designed to give orders to make sure things runs well, and I think it's a good thing) tell blasters not to use melee attacks and not to nuke. People are scared of melee toons in MoSTFs, especially since in a channel TF you won't know all the players.
Not that I agree with that, but that's what I saw in numerous MoSTFs attempts, failed or successful, that I've done. I think the only way I can ever get my Em/Nin stalker (softcapped and stuff, and /nin has reconstruction to help) in a MoRSF is if I ask my brazilian coalition or the Repeat Offenders, i doubt I'd be accepted in a server channel attempt, and I know I can play her very well and be cautious when needed. -
Quote:Not angry, just said you were a bit arrogant from people just giving their opinions, no one said things like 'nub take sb or you'll be gimped'.
I was never angry at anyone, your example showed an example on the use of the power. I simply replied what I think about Doms who don't attempt to perma. I know more then a few doms who refuse to even try to perma. In turn, I agree, I'm extremely "thick" as you stated when it comes to perma dom. I feel the same about petless MMs.
On the dom issue, although I don't think permadom is that necessary now after the revamp, I never said I wasn't attempting to perma my dom at the time (I ended up doing it). She was my 1st 50 redside and I was poor there, it took me more than one month to perma her after 50, you know how the black market is.
Even heavily IO'ed toons can benefit from SB. I have a mind/emp with 3 secs off permahasten (more rech than my permadom). I stopped adding recharge to her because she has so much control and buffs that she's already as much as I can handle without going crazy since I have to pay attention to enemies, player health bars, who's forted or not, and adding like 20% extra recharge wouldn't make a LOT of difference... But give me SB and suddenly the extra long buffs such as regen and recovery aura have a lot less downtime - as the very long recharging Mass Confusion - and I can keep Adrenalin Boost on more than one person at once. For example, my regen/recov aura have 50 secs downtime (they recharge on 141 secs and last for 90, remember base for them is 500s). Give me 2 kins with SB and the downtime drops to 20 seconds for very useful buffs.
I find it very valuable when exemplaring also if you intend to do it with your toon since from what you said it looks like she's 50. I 'tanked' a low level TF (the 20-25 one) on a 24 Spines/Dark because of two kins in the team. Gave me the ability to use dark regen whenever it was up (which many IO'ed /dark armor toons can't do or their end will plunge) and have practically a 'Spine Burst - Spine Burst - Spine Burst' attack chain (sure, using some filler between the AoE because it took like 2 secs to recharge) allowing the mobs to focus on me because of all the AoE damage I was doing, since /DA scrappers have no taunt aura like tankers.
But I stated my opinion already - in my particular case, I ask why the kin doesn't have SB to know if it's because she doesn't know how good the power is or she just doesn't like it, and I'm fine either way as long as the player isn't rude or a complete idiot - and I use 'idiot' for extreme cases like aggroing whole rooms, doing things that REALLY hurt the team (I think I mentioned I don't even mind empaths with no attacks and the med pool as long as they're contributing), I just emphasized that I'm very tolerant as long as things are going okay and that I've seen harsh reactions from other players to kins without sb, but I was never condemning your choice.
Agree with you on petless MMs tho, I think they are gimped from the start because they're just corrs with (much) weaker attacks and weaker buffs/debuffs. I just find quite an exaggeration to compare non perma doms to petless MMs, especially after the dom revamp, since they control as ewll as controllers (except for the overpower thing that trollers get sometimes) and put out serious damage (example: Blaze, 189 dmg on Blasters, 168 on Doms). But that's besides the point of the thread, I think that, being arrogant, snarky or not, you got the answers you wanted and you'll find out how 'accepted' this is by other teammates as you play. -
Yup, worth it. I came back after 1.5 year and the only reason I"m not playing much is that after i17 my game looks crappy (Intel GPU issues) but until before i17, I was having the same fun as before. Did a lot of TFs on Freedom and Virtue, when I was just marketeering on a STALKER (ya know, the class that 'people don't want on teams') I always got lots of invites on Freedom.
Curiously, one thing that I see a lot in small pop servers and almost never experience on freedom and virtue are blind invites, they send tells 99% of the time on these two servers. Not that I get all worked up by a blind invite to a team, but c'mon, being blind invited to SGs is too much.
Back on topic, yes, LOTS of people playing on Freedom and Virtue all hours. The lower pop servers I've gone to are good for finding teams in peak times, but a bit empty on mornings for example.
Last TF I assembled (Moonfire, not a popular one since it doesn't contribute to the TF commander accolade) on Freedom, took me less than 10 minutes to find players and there were even excess people in the end, sending me tells after we had 8 already.
But even in lower pop servers.. Just use the channels, they help a lot. -
I can't stand the STF anymore because of all the Master runs (my Brazilian friends often requested my mind/emp to help them get the badge), but scrappers aren't very welcome in those (I ran a few Masters formed on channels too so I'm not speaking from the PoV of the Brazilian guys only). Usually people want one emp, a rad, a tank and the rest, blasters. And the blasters are usually told not to nuke and stay in range. Haven't run a MO since i13 so I don't know nowadays how appreciated /colds, /therms and other newer powersets are.
Reason is, even a softcapped /SR can get two-shotted by an AV, so a regen would be even worse in that regard.
Please note that I'm not saying that this is the 'right' way of doing a MoSTF, this is only what I've seen, especially from MoSTFs formed in channels (the channel ones usually only accept granite tankers btw - that only reinforces the reason people are 'afraid' of other melee toons in the Mo attempts), since of course the brazilian guys I did them are more tolerant because they know each other already and someone always want to take some toon out of the pattern I described to get the badge, meaning it's perfectly possible for you to find a group of ingame friends who are willing to take your /regen to a Mo attempt. -
Thanks Back_Blast. Did the whole intel routine again but the date is always the same. Since most players I know with Intel 945/965s still have their shader greyed out like the patch was supposed to fix, I won't pay for the drivercleaner, just wait for a possible patch.
And yeah, even on mac forums I saw people asking about sigmatel audio drivers for macs and I didn't find any definitive answer. I'll look into that later, thanks for taking your time to google it and try to find a fix for me -
There's the 'Technical Issues and Bugs' forums - http://boards.cityofheroes.com/forumdisplay.php?f=578
That said I got the same message yesterday when trying to buy the magic booster via Paypal. Must be a problem on their side. -
Quote:That was just an example, dude, chill out. You asked about SB and most people (even the coming storm who loves trolling, not that he bothers me, but he annoys a lot of people usually) gave constructive arguments and you got all fired up because 'you are l33t' and we are supposed to know that you're an uber player who have multiple purpled out toons. Fact is, most people at 50, heavily IOed or not, endurance issues or not, benefit greatly from SB, but you're too thick to understand we're just trying to give our points of view, but since you think 'everybody needs to be IO'ed out', why bother asking?@Kioshi
Sorry my Doms are all perma'd w/o help, so I don't personally see most of your argument as truely valid. IMO those doms need to grind and get perma'd so they don't need a kin.
Not that it matters, but my dom is perma since i11, she wasn't at the time of that particular ITF (AGAIN, IT WAS AN EXAMPLE OF HOW SB HELPED AN ITF GO SMOOTHER, DO YOU UNDERSTAND NOW?).
Jeez, people try to help, nobody flamed you for asking about the utility of SB, and you reply with arrogance (not only to me).
Way to go dude! -
Quote:Oh don't bother with that, if they're out of range, too bad for them. No need to go chasing them. I only 'chase' people out of range when someone is dying and I'm on my emp so I can cast a Heal Other+Fortitude (or AB if it's up) - that is, if it isn't like a fool scrapper going off to solo a 8-man mob alone at the other side of the map lol.I take SB as a team expects it.....however I do wish people wouldnt run off and be out of range when im sb'ing then ***** about it......do they know how annoying the whole SB thing is for a kin
But not on my kins, it's not like SB will save anyone's life in 2 seconds. -
-
Quote:This. It's your character, so build it how you want.
As for your concerns, I have a couple of suggestions. There's no reason to SB an entire team or to constantly apply it, save it for when there is likely to be a need (prior to or during a battle.) Don't slot for Run Speed.
Example: ITF before the dom revamp. I was on a dom with like 40% global rech at the time, another dom with something like that. The kin wasn't SB'ing anyone.
We asked: 'Hey why don't you sb anyone?'
Kin: 'I'm tired of all the clicking all the time'
We (doms): 'Could you keep SB on at least us doms so we can be permadoms and do more damage and control better? It'll help the ITF run faster if the team agrees'
(The other teammates said it was fine to sb only the doms)
Kin: 'Ok I have no problems just SB'ing two people'
So he kept SB on us, we both were permadom and did more damage, attacked more, our controls were great even on the mez resistant mobs from the ITF... Things went much quicker after that.
You see, it's not only about the endurance, but the recharge too. Few toons, even at 50, are IO'ed enough to have 50% global rech. You can turn a SO'ed Brute/Blaster/etc into a nonstop killing machine like he was a pretty heavily IO'ed toon with one SB. And as Coming Storm said, it works wonders for sets like Traps that have powers on long recharges even when kinda IO'ed out. -
I'm in no condition to help you, but I know the first thing the guys who can help will ask you is to put a CoH Helper report in a forum post, so do it
Get it here: http://home.roadrunner.com/~dasloth/CoH/CoHHelper.html
Edit: lol didn't see you got the solution already. -
Maybe you need to play against pink conning enemies to see the true potential of radiation. Or a +3 ITF. Or as small team playing a higher diff.
Anyway, I don't find there's a 'this is better' answer to your question. Depends on what you enjoy more, you'll be effective. The only primary I find underwhelming (and ppl may curse me for that) is Trick Arrow. All the others provide enough to the team that you'll contribute a lot, go with what you like.
Dark is interesting, not very busy and has a mix of healing/rez/debuffs and no need to buff teammates all the time, and has more mitigation than most other sets due to fearsome stare alone (and you can get a hold if you want too). -
I'm very tolerant, but I'm always surprised when I see a kin without SB. I always purposely ask 'what? how come you don't have sb?' (just so they know they're missing on the most desired power from kins, I don't kick them or anything) and also, to actually know why they haven't taken it, because I'd never skip it (bind it to a key like me and SB only when you feel they need it if you're too tired).
But as I said I'm tolerant, if I'm leading a team and the empath has the medicine pool and the only attack is flurry, I tell her the med pool is unnecessary because of this and that and if it's a cool player and doing nothing stupid, I always let him/her tag along.
But tbh, I've seem very harsh reactions and kicking occurring due to a kin not having sb. ymmv of course.
PS: Vermain I love your sig. -
You could use only two or three recharge IOs, you'll cap your resistances to all but negative.
For three slots, I'd use a 50 Aegis rech/res IO and 2 rech IOs - in my setup (all resist shields fully slotted except that I only have a Steadfast unique in Grounded so negative isn't that good) I get everything capped (90%) but Negative at 84% and Toxic at 60%. I don't have PS but I added it in the planned build to check the numbers.
If you use four slots you can maximize rech and resists (4 res/rech IOs from the cheapest sets you can find, like Aegis, Titanium Coating, Reactive Armor, I think even the Impervium Armor Res/Rech isn't very expensive because res/rech isn't used a lot) you can get 82% a resistance increase, capping everything but toxic, that goes up to 82% (because toxic starts from zero) and psionic because PS doesn't affect psionic res (at least Mids is telling me that because I never had the power).
So for maximum effect, 4 slots, but 3 slots (one rech/res and 2 recharges) give you fairly good numbers, almost capping neg and toxic at 60% is good enough imo. -
One example: a PuG didn't 'respect' my toggles. I told them to try.
They didn't, and faceplanted a lot, and of course I did too.
I asked them not to kill my anchors, and they complied, I was quite surprised they complied so quickly and efficiently. We began steamrolling, the enemies ere mostly pink so the team was having a hard time with pink bosses and stuff.
I faceplanted once due to my own stupidity in the middle of a hard battle and since my toggles were off, all the team's health was going down quickly, all red. Instead of waiting for the empath to rez me, I used a wakie+breakfree+blue and anchored a hard target again with RI+EF+LR to get them up asap. The empath healed the team and we steamrolled the missions.
Rad is so freaking powerful that if I just used my toggles I'd a major contribution to the team already (I attacked a lot, used EMP Pulse whenever it was up - a great power for mitigation on most occasions, of course AM when it was up, healed some, even nuked when thinks were a bit safer because it's fun, I like playing 'on the edge', but I could just use my toggles and I'd be making the team steamroll just with them).
Oh and falllout is the bestest power evarz, I loved when a Blaster (they never seem to mind dying lol) offered to be my fallout bait when it was recharged. Besides the lovely damage, it has a hefty debuff. insps (acc+dmg) then Fallout+EM Pulse+Psychic Wail (my rad/psy's nuke) and then a blue just to be able to use my anchor toggles right away is just awesome.
And I don't like defenders that much, this is my only one higher than 40. -
Weird. And phantom, once in my experiments the char creator did lock in the name screen before I managed to enter the name.
At least I managed to create a toon and after the crash it showed up later after restarting the game (the only time I had selected 'no' for tutorial), but I'll open a petition since it seems to be pretty harsh on you since you can't even get a new toon to the game (and hey, you got GR, you must be really mad at this since I suppose you really wanna try demons).
I'm already contacting support back and forth because my toons look plain since i17 (Intel gfx issues, shader fix doesn't work) and their solutions... like 'try to run in safe mode' are kinda lulzy, yes I tried them all but no deal, I've been playing much less than I would normally because all my toons and npcs/enemies lost their reflections, shadings, etc. But that's another matter, just citing it because that's what I'm really worried about.
Funny thing, haven't had any problems ever with the game since i9 except for very casual random crashes in the market that almost everyone I know had. -
Thank you Finduilas. Unistalled the Intel driver, I could tell it uninstalled correctly because when I restarted my desktop was all blurry and I got the 'found new hardware - VGA adaptor' or something like that in windows. Downloaded the latest driver from intel again (same version), restarted, CoH Helper shows the same weird date , which I saw in various CoH Helper logs for other Intel card users who also had the most recent drivers for their model/system (for example an user of an Intel 965 with win vista - diff card, diff system).
Shader options still greyed out, game running the same as before I uninstalled/reinstalled.
I'm having a lil trouble finding driver for my sound card. I found 'Gateway Sigmatel Audio', 'Intel Q45 Sigmatel Audio', not sure which one I should use since control panel says my device is called 'sigmatel audio' only. Sounds are normal as always were in the game tho if that matters.
Thanks for helping!

Just though I'd post mine to see if there's something wrong... Shader quality is greyed out still after the 'intel shader fix'. Game perfectly playable, world has some weird shadows after this patch but looking better than i17 launch, only toons/npcs/enemies look very plain compared to i16, maybe because of shader being greyed out (for example now 'tights' and 'tights sleek' look almost the same). My Intel drivers are up to date according to the intel utility detector:
(the mod files listed is Corva's icon pack that worked fine since I installed it in i16 - well they're only different power icons anyway, and the '.Net Memory Report: 850MB out of 2016MB available' is because I'm running a lot of things right now which I don't run when I play). Thanks for any help

Made a toon yesterday on Champion, chose powers, etc, entered the name, game asked if I wanted the tutorial, I clicked 'yes' and I got 'name already taken' message. Okay, changed the name, clicked 'yes' on the tutorial and the game crashed with the sound you get when clicking 'yes' looping.
Ran the game again (verified files), the toon I had created wasn't there anymore. Recreated him, chose the same name that wasn't taken, and it said it was taken, probably because the game 'registered' the name I put. I gave up and went to sleep.
So I create the toon again this morning (had saved costume and power colors at least), same name that I tried and the game froze, cool, name available again, clicked 'yes' on th tutorial (to get the badge), game crashed.
Restarted the game, toon wasn't there again, name taken when I recreated lol. So I chose a different one, but I chose 'no' to the tutorial. Game crashed the same way when I clicked on 'go to Burke', but at least when I restarted the toon was there and Mercy Island loaded and I could play my new lvl 1 corr but no tutorial badge for me.
To make an experiment, I created a toon on Liberty and another on Victory, same crashing deal and no toon showing up after restarting the game (I had rebooted my computer too twice in the process to make sure it wasn't Windows acting wonky like it does when you leave it turned on for days) when I chose 'Yes' to the tutorial.
Logging in with any toon I already have is fine.
Oh, btw I only tried creating villains so idk if the hero creator will give me this.
Anyone had a similar problem? It was the first time I created a toon after the last patch.
Thanks! -
Quote:Well with SS/Fire you'll feel better at 8 with KO Blow, and feel awesome with Rag at 18... then after Stamina, SOs and Blazing Aura (get it at 22 if you don't have it already) you'll feel pretty good. Then at like 25 you'll start feeling 'meh I'm stuck with this attack chain with gaps'... until 33 when you slot footstomp. SS is a wonky set, not smooth progressing like Claws, but Footstomp is worth it.I'm level 7 and already having doubts
I keep wanting to try SS/SR and Claw/SR
which is better out of the two?
I think claws might be good if it's slotted for recharge + quickness
but i'm not sure how well the damage is when compared to SS
It'll be even worse if you go without a damage aura secondary (the ride to footstomp), that's why I deleted my ss/wp at 24. Claws' progress is smoother and Spin is great and comes early, but SS is really smashy and I like it (but had a hard time getting one to 32 because I'm not exactly a melee fan). -
And I thought seeing that someone paid 1 billion for a BoTZ -KB IO was bad lol. They were selling from 55-100 mil, got mine for 55 the time I placed the bid, but the one just before mine was 1 bil.

Cmon you can turn down xp.. But how to refuse an offer for MEGA XP? Noob.
