Power Surge Slotting

Hit level 38 and too Power Surge on my Elec/Elec Brute.

On my Elec/Elec Scrapper I didn't use it all that much so I think I only put two slots in it.

On a Brute, depending on what I face, I don't expect to use it a lot, but probably more than I have on my Scrapper.

Here's my question: how many slots should I put into it, and could someone recommend a relatively cheap IO set that I could put in it. (I don't have a ton of Infamy on this Brute, and probably not more than a couple hundred million on all my Villains spread across various servers ...)

You could use only two or three recharge IOs, you'll cap your resistances to all but negative.

For three slots, I'd use a 50 Aegis rech/res IO and 2 rech IOs - in my setup (all resist shields fully slotted except that I only have a Steadfast unique in Grounded so negative isn't that good) I get everything capped (90%) but Negative at 84% and Toxic at 60%. I don't have PS but I added it in the planned build to check the numbers.

If you use four slots you can maximize rech and resists (4 res/rech IOs from the cheapest sets you can find, like Aegis, Titanium Coating, Reactive Armor, I think even the Impervium Armor Res/Rech isn't very expensive because res/rech isn't used a lot) you can get 82% a resistance increase, capping everything but toxic, that goes up to 82% (because toxic starts from zero) and psionic because PS doesn't affect psionic res (at least Mids is telling me that because I never had the power).

So for maximum effect, 4 slots, but 3 slots (one rech/res and 2 recharges) give you fairly good numbers, almost capping neg and toxic at 60% is good enough imo.

I use two recharge and a resistance. Not that I've used power surge in several dozen play hours... I tend to just pop a large orange insp or two instead.

Of my 5 Brutes with Electric armor past L38 only one took Surge. I did not slot it and its a place holder for my Steadfast. Things have to get really nasty for a long time to require Power Surge. In normal play I might go through several 3 hour gaming sessions before I decide to use it.

While I do not use it much there have been some very memorable times. Like the time I faced down the Vindicators on the LRSF. The team wiped and I said I would hold them off so the team could regroup. It was a nice plan but to many of the team decided to watch me go splat. When I did not go splat quickly from all four pounding on me they then stayed to watch. Eventually I had to pop PS and then my timer was running. Once the icon started to flash I made for the door.

So it has its uses.

I use it seldom enough that I go for resist over recharge. If it needs extra time to come back up that's not a problem, but I want to juice it for every bit of buffage while it is up. So I have two res/rech and one pure res. but the four res/rech is not a bad recommendation.

Thanks, guys.

Still haven't decided on what I'm going to do.

This guy is running on plus 0 plus 8 in RWZ which is pretty much where I expected him to be with the 90 percent energy resistance cap. (My Elec/Elec Scrapper does the same thing so it wasn't surprising to me.)

I was fighting COT at Plus 0 Plus 6 a few days ago, and they were just kicking my butt to the curb.

Now he's obviously not going to be able to steamroll everything like he can Rikti, so that was probably a case of just overly high expectations, but I do like the thrill of having tons of enemies trying to kill me and winning ...

So I am expecting to use Power Surge a fair amount ... at least much more than my Scrapper which is almost never.

Wow my SS/Elec usually fights +2x6 all comers except the toxic's. My BA/Elec generally does +1x6 or 0x8 I just love a crowd for her AOE nothing like one shotting 3 at a time.
My SM/Elec generally does +3x3 smaller crowds for the sinlge target beat down.

+2x6 against Renegade Vanguard?

I want to see a build that can farm those buggers. They're dangerous.

I'm kinda the mutant here.
I've 2-slotted with Lockdown for the +3% damage(Rech/Hold & End/Rech/Hold).

I used to slot for Res(and 2.5% Recovery), but my Resists are pretty high between the Armors + Tough(and /Elec doesn'treally need the recovery).
