Worth coming back or not?

Hello I'm returning back to the game after being gone for 2 years, is it worth coming back, I logged in and only saw like 4 people around. I know alot of my old friends left to go play champions but that game wasn't very good to me so I left and played WoW for a while, that got old very fast. I'm kinda a comic book geek and would love to come back and just have fun.
Looking for some feed back.

Thank you

Virtue is the most populated server now. *flex* And this is mostly an instanced game, so you don't see everybody at once. Yes, worth coming back.

City of Heroes has changed a lot over the years. Some of these changes directly impact your ability to see whether or not anybody is online.

Earlier this year the developers allowed limited Free Transfers, and multiple players used the transfers to move characters off of servers like Freedom and Virtue, while certain cliques, such as the PvP crowd, moved onto specific servers (particularly Freedom Server).

The developers also developed a new /hide system, which allows players to selectively hide from various searchable lists within the game. The first thing many veteran players do is turn off their visibility to /search.

The developers also revamped the server hosting system itself. Server population indicators when players log-in refer to over-all load... not server population. Improved load-balancing software has also enabled the servers to better utilize available resources. What this means is that the server load icons visible when you log into the game... don't actually tell you what the server population is.

***

The developers also expanded the number of Global Channels players could belong to a few issues back, and with Issue 17, have developed a Channel Timeout function, to clear existing global channels of inactive accounts. The result is that most active teaming takes place in Global Channels... first starting with private SG or Coaly based channels, and then expanding to the more wild and rampant public channels.

If you do a search for global channels, you'll likely find a public badge or Task Force channel for your server. If you earn a reputation as a competent player who is reliable through the public channel, you'll likely be invited to one of the smaller private channels were you'll have more opportunities at special events like Master of Task Force / Strike force runs.

***

Some servers also have players who are active on the forums (from what we know of published figures, it's likely that only 1/5th of the game visits the forums, and closer to 1/10th actually posts on a regular basis). So, if you get involved with a Server specific forum, you are more likely to find a good play group.

***

Now, would I reccomend you start trying to play on Freedom server? Oh no. Not in a hundred million years. Freedom's got the reputation of being Freedumb, and I lost count of the players using the free-transfer opportunity as a way to get their best characters off of the server. As mentioned by another player, this is why Virtue has taken the reported lead in being the most populated server.

Now, what server would I suggest you start playing on? Well, pretty much every server has a group of good people. You'll probably need to actually go to each server and find one that suits you.

Not for nothing, but there are still a few good groups of people here on Freedom as well. I'm not saying you are wrong about the population shift. I even have a few toons on other servers that I have been using lately, but this is still my home and I'm proud to help lead events here every week. If it suits the OP's schedule, they are certainly welcome any time.

Yup, worth it. I came back after 1.5 year and the only reason I"m not playing much is that after i17 my game looks crappy (Intel GPU issues) but until before i17, I was having the same fun as before. Did a lot of TFs on Freedom and Virtue, when I was just marketeering on a STALKER (ya know, the class that 'people don't want on teams') I always got lots of invites on Freedom.

Curiously, one thing that I see a lot in small pop servers and almost never experience on freedom and virtue are blind invites, they send tells 99% of the time on these two servers. Not that I get all worked up by a blind invite to a team, but c'mon, being blind invited to SGs is too much.

Back on topic, yes, LOTS of people playing on Freedom and Virtue all hours. The lower pop servers I've gone to are good for finding teams in peak times, but a bit empty on mornings for example.

Last TF I assembled (Moonfire, not a popular one since it doesn't contribute to the TF commander accolade) on Freedom, took me less than 10 minutes to find players and there were even excess people in the end, sending me tells after we had 8 already.

But even in lower pop servers.. Just use the channels, they help a lot.

Wow. It takes balls of steel to come to another server and recruit away from them because of a neurotic belief in your social superiority. Took you six years to finally say "we're winning". Stay classy, Virtue. Stay classy.

OP: I'd say it's worth coming back, but for real "wow-zowie" factor, I'd hold off on coming back 'til summertime, when Going Rogue really hits the live servers. Teaming here isn't an issue, although it's been a bit quieter since the holidays. An off-server bud mentioned that it's nice to hear themselves think on Freedom's AP broadcast finally. Less noise, more signal. Most of the bigger names popped up again when Issue 17 kicked in, and I know we saw a lot of them move to other games recently (I'm still side-saddling STO and COH). Seeing my global list light up like a Xmas tree again is a terrific thing.

If you really wanna get your feet wet with fresh content, though, I'd sub a month and see how it does for you. I'd rather see you sub for the GR period, as that's where all the new bling will be coming, so fresh content would be a big lure during that period (remember, GR is a purchased add-on). If you're looking for your old friends? I dunno, can't help that. I will tell you that we have most of the same playerbase here, whipping up teams, TFs, raids and PvP like we always have. Maybe now's the time to make new friends!

Je_saist is wrong in that he thinks veterans turn off their visibility to /search. Only noobs or soloists do that as that prevents you from getting teams in some cases.
Real vets know how to rock teh /sea .

O.o saist is on virtue? :< Why such a meanie on my server.

Hi, I just came back after 14 months. I would first make sure that your current system can still run CoH. I would do a 14-day free account to test the waters. Actually, that is what I did.

I found that my main computer (crappy ATI video card) won't handle Issue 17. I found many, some, a few, of my old friends still in game. I found that I still get many invites to team on Freedom, even on the limited trial account. I didn't get any teams on Virtue, but then the trial account limits the ability to "chat", a requirement on Virtue. Although, I did see some old Virtue friends when I searched.

Over all, there were many changes, and some new content since you were on. It will be a new 'familiar' game for you. And the majority of players and all servers are very friendly

I'd say come on back--if it doesn't work, you can always lapse the account again.

See you in game.

I'm allergic to the RP that permeates Virtue.

*Walks into thread and sprays drogoh down with Calamine lotion and some anti-Virtue fungal cream*

I say give it a shot. What have you got to lose? Luna's Monday night TFs are always packed with three to four teams. E rules Wednesday and Saturday nights. Gen Gintoki runs Thursday nights. Leandro's rockin' the Hami almost every night from what I hear.

Oh and je_saist ... Virtue ------->

Thankyouverymuch!

Not right now actually. There's a critical bug with the green Hamis that's basically making any Hami encounter (incl the LGTF) unwinnable.

I'd take it that's why Ribosome Exposures are selling for 200 mill + these days. Anyone know what -normal- market value for those are? Been trying to get 4 of 'em, but I'd hate to overshoot on the price when the current demand is tenfold the supply.

That's exactly why, yeah. I'd wait it out. Set a bid at something reasonable "for you" and forget about it for a while. The Market was basically wiped out with I17 (intentionally), so histories are no longer an immediate source of reliable trend info. It's guaranteed that people will be trying to scrape every drop of INF from the market until things settle down.

Me and a couple of friends tried the LGTF a couple of nights ago for kicks and we got through it. Using WB Nukes- we killed the yellows, blues, then hit the nucleus with the nuke....took him down quick then the greens. Was still rough even with nukes, shivans and vanguard heavy.

Doesnt really contribute to the post, but just an fyi....

Thank you for embodying the below quote:

You're an inspiration to us all. For my money, I'll just wait for the bugfix (I'm lazy in my old age), but hey, you can now say you dropped the "unbeatable" Hami!

I was on a run a couple mornings ago where we were able to kill ONE of the greens. It seems they not indestructible, just have ridiculously high regen/heal... so as long as you can defeat them in 1 second with perfectly timed simultaneous hits, it can still be done.

After killing one of them, we lost a couple team members. They didn't want to keep trying for the perfect hit. Frankly, neither did I. As long as we got one of them down, that was enough for me to say it was possible. haha

Being a solo LGTF runner, Ill have to test that out Turg, lol

Solo, I'd like to see you take them down in the state they are in. Their regen/heal is incredibly high, so the only hope of killing any Green Mito is to take it down with multiple simultaneous hits inside of a second. It can be done with a full team and perfect timing, but it's too much of a hassle to deal with. I'll just wait 'til they are fixed.

Edit:
I just found it it was supposedly fixed this morning. There was reports of people still having issues with it though. Apparently there were some changes to the Mitos as well (which might be reversed in the future), but it's worth a shot anyway.
