I have been thinking. Now that we have the tech for changing animations of powers... will we get the "/flyemote"'s in form of alternate animations for Flight?
[/ QUOTE ]

Would still like more (much more) dev stories that aren't TF's or SF's please!
[/ QUOTE ]
I think GR might give you one or two new arcs
[/ QUOTE ]
I really wish you'd stop doing that, GG...
GR is a seperate expansion. It will probably cost us as much as buying a new game.
It is a very different case to the issues that are provided out of subs.
There should be dev-story content in the issues and the existence of GR should not be a factor in that at all.
BTW - wasn't it meant to be the case that we got alternate story issues and tech/system issues? I know MA threw the issue ordering out, but we seem to have moved a long way from that.
[/ QUOTE ]
It doesn't matter anyway, you may pay for the game, but ultimately what they do with that money is up to them. Its a business after all. When you take that into account you also have to realize that what was said several months if not almost a year ago can easily change. Routines and procedures evolve and eventually change and accommodate for that change. For example GR may be separate from what you pay for and you don't have to buy it, but as a company they still have to work on it to provide it for those who will buy it, and thereby devote resources to it. (As they will make a tidy profit from it if not from direct sales but from those returning to check it out)
Also i'd like to take the time to point out how difficult it might be and how much time it might take (Again factoring the GR production in the pipeline) to create, adjust new proliferated power sets never mind creating an open customizable character creation process including powers.
I think this Issue despite some peoples negativity is fully fleshed out with things that will please many. They might not be large and noticeable changes but for some who cried for ease of use and day to day changes its nice to see they are fixing the foundations of this game clearly for bigger and better things to come. -
This new "pl" tool will actually encourage more soloing personally, as the xp will be a little better per mission. I am fully excited about these changes and customization abilities
As the oh wise noob says, bring on tha beta
-
Erm as great as the new website is how come the cinematic is now in half the quality it originally was. Major whoopsie for anyone who see's it for the first time and feels let down :/
Nice to read a bit more and finally get some tad bits of info on the expansion -
I refuse to buy anything on the store until they display my own currency and can be fully assured as to how much i am actually being charged.
It may be because i'm from Northern Ireland and perhaps they are misled that we use the Euro when we use the Pound but then again its not a surprise for our own country (The United Kingdom) to be ignorant of our existence, i mean after all... they don't even recognize our own notes in transactions there.
*stab* *stab* *stab* -
cleary i'll remove the zombies for lightning rod combine that with zeus' and you have teh win

What he said... its not illegal and there is no reason for it to be illegal. It is software that was released and as far as i knew was just decommissioned after the whole korea thing failed. I had and probably still have it on my old machine and wouldn't think for a second to remove it especially over something so silly.
It was legal when released theres even less reason for it to be anymore illegal nowenjoy your fun!

Can anyone suggest a good patron selection for a widow? i'm thinking two choices for each build.
Pvp build - single target high damage or debuff
Pve - Aoe, survivability (aid farming perhaps)
or should i perhaps ignore them and go for no patron and use what's available for widow? -

Reading the word document closer, I definely can't see what made him think he was "playing by the designers' rules" as the article says.
[ QUOTE ]
The first set of Twixts breaching behaviors involved pvp tactics within RV: droning and, closely related, teleporting into non-player characters (npcs).
[/ QUOTE ]
The second bit is definetly not allowed as far as I know, since it can cause debt. That's suspension-worthy actions just there. Or at least I think a red name has said so in the past.
[/ QUOTE ]
Apparently not:
[ QUOTE ]
After trying and failing to convince Twixt to behave properly in the broadcast channels available within RV, players quickly took their pleas to the games moderators (through petitions) and then, equally quickly, to the larger community of CoH/V players.
[/ QUOTE ]
As i said, the tactic is breaking no predefined in-game rules set by the developers, It does however breach social structure and the normal play style of RV (combating heros and villains).
I think what most people are missing is what his actual goal was within RV. To win the map. He wasnt trying to pvp. Pvp is a function of RV, its goal however is to tag all 6 pillboxes and capture the area for your side, and he simply used what was available ignoring social etiquette to achieve a win. -
I really dont get what im missing sometimes... so many people are so disappointed with the issues being released. Yet we know for definate that we have atleast two giant features maybe three in the mix that as far as i was concerned everyone wanted :S
Power customization (assumed but come on... what more do you need?)
GR - several zones and potentially more content than you could shake a stick at?
Large graphics update
All of which are scheduled to come within the year into early 2010? granted we have no sturdy information but when did any mmo company give straight up answers especially with competition in the midst... -
Wow i'm really interested in this whole debate all of a sudden its fascinating... i think this helps describe what he was poking at:
[ QUOTE ]
In order to rescue sociology as a positivist enterprise, it is useful to assume social rules exist more influentially as cognitive constructs than as material characteristics of the social environment. A corollary then assumes some mechanism by which individual members of society activate these constructs in promotion of social order and well-being particularly where that well-being is detrimental and/or inhibitory to the individuals involved. Or, in short, why should one sacrifice herself for the good of the whole? Frequently, the answer to this question refers to a common set of cognitive mechanisms e. g., rationality -- according to which individual members of a society are inclined to act predictably and, wherever necessary for species survival, altruistically. These individually determined but socially beneficial actions are then manifest within large social organizations structures as natural or system laws.
[/ QUOTE ]
In Laymans terms, He was studying what happens when you remove the "Rational" social law of society (or in this case the gaming world) and do what your supposed to do ignoring these. He Succeeded by winning the zone round at all costs. -
I think your all missing the point of the article itself, he set out to see real life social preconceptions and obligations by studying it in an environment where you are not required to abide by those rules in the first place to achieve the goal. Because after all City of Heroes is a game, the purpose of which is to win, all he did was follow the rules ignoring social obligations to see how social groups react and as he put it Maintain order and the social balance
To be honest I find this rather interesting, I mean what he was actually doing was using all that he had been provided with (powers, sets and the like) to achieve the goal. The fact that he ignored social structure was what defined or created his exclusion, but it still stand that he in fact did nothing wrong by the gaming laws. It was however a social created law that he had broken and therefore punishable by no one but the players themselves. And I can only imagine after realizing this (after the lack of response or punishment by developer/GM) that they took things into their own hands.
Now that said, some things mentioned are provoking in a sense, and I feel sometimes he may have got into the character and mode a little too much. For instance after winning he in fact provoked a response by entering into social interactions. I feel that if he wanted to gain a proper result all interaction should have been removed thereby not allowing players to get to know the person but only the character and their actions. (and respond to the actions themselves and not the communication) but I guess since the verbal interaction is part of a social structure he had to (and did so very plainly as to best preserve the results)
Anyway, Still funny to see what happens when you are allowed to ignore social obligations in a situation to gain a win. And how we react to said interruption.
p.s Also makes me wonder why there isnt a 60ft teleport suppression on drones +perception buff o.O
Edit:
[ QUOTE ]
If you read the word document itself (There's a link in the article to it) he made a number of poor assumptions. The main one being that the droning tactic he was using was within the "Rules" of the game. This is a very bad interpretation, as while the mechanics of the game allows droning it's not in a pre-defined ruleset for the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes its not prohibited by the game therefore no rules against it ergo allowed. The rule however is created by the social structure of the game community which i believe is where he wanted to study
Forgot to mention about the Fightclub situation... Who defines the rules for having the fight club in a PVP zone? ... and who has to enforce them? -
Was about to say make sure your in "Veteran rewards" section and not "recently earned"
As i assume this was the issue (for those that come across this again)

I'd like stealth missions - like sneaking around on Praetoria, investigating Tyrant and his thugs, and obtaining top secret data about them.
And just to make it extra challenging, the places where the info would be kept would have a special security system that'd suppress all superpowers - so on the misison, you'd only have Brawl and Sprint available - with maybe the option of fining a temp power for a handgun of some sort.
The we could all play at spies, even if we weren't the Spy AT
[/ QUOTE ]
:O GG ftw?
total power suppression with ability to find crappy tempsreminds me of Metal gear solid when you get caught and get your weapons and stuff taken off you and have to sneak around breaking peoples neck xD
Forcing a change of tactics on players is a great idea! -
Ahh SO its in fact the other way around, if you don't upgrade the launcher will be upgraded to match snow leopard? and you will be... left in the dirt of a new OS?
-
Did the same personally i just downloaded the mac client from the site and let it patch everything i was in no rush. The only realistic uick patch is to straight copy some of the files but that'll get complicated when it comes to inserting those in the right places in the .app (The .app file has things muddled around a bit IIRC)
Just checked its a case of finding the .app and showing contents, from there its:
contents -> Resources -> transgaming -> C_Drive -> coh
From that you can change the windows version as you would normally all the files are there -
Don't advertise how to do it /duh
Well in most senses collapse implies a downward force but i think the implication was the usability of the market will collapse as prices riseergo poor people lose out xD
-
I am also one of those people that hopes the graphics update will include something to make it more realistic and not more comic book. Granted its a comic based game, but i like to play games where i can get into the characters and environment not feel like i'm looking at a 2D comic (which is why i immediately disliked CO, even with the lines off it still looks less appealing)

You gotta be taken the [censored], Let me get something straight here. I play on vigilance daily. I enjoy speaking french with the french people it helps to jump in the deep end and learn the hard way.
That said i lost all respect for the good majority of the french server after the display of [censored] i seen over the past few days. As donna said, do not expect a warm welcome when you come spamming broadcast (in a foreign language to most), disrupting the area and generally causing a riot. When you act mature and join in to play the game like everyone else then i'll meet you evenly and give you some respect.
Don't get me wrong that wasn't aimed at anyone but the act itself, but you cant say wasn't expected. Like me a lot of people lost the respect of the other severs after that display. Its a pity that some good people got caught up in it perhaps like yourself. -
[ QUOTE ][*]Please note that Tiger is not an officially supported Operating System for City of Heroes, and that when Snow Leopard launches, users using OS X Tiger may not be able to run City of Heroes.
[/ QUOTE ]
Taken from the patch notes, use this as information as a heads up. Snow leopard will become available September 09 for $29 (£17 approx) upgrade price from leopard. At which point issues may arrise with city of heroes functionality if you choose to upgrade. I know i will be purchasing this so will post anything i find here. -

Pardon?! wait is this a serious "slip in there under the radar to cover our [censored] thing"?... Considering i have no other option but to play it on a mac at the mo this puts me in a slightly worrying position. I hope its not a foresight either and if it is, something is being done to organise testing the compatibility. I'll be willing to give feedback too but ...
Perhaps it would be a good idea to post it somewhere like the mac forumbring more attention to the fact that suddenly you might not be able to play (and get flooding posts in the tech forums)

Also like to point out when you make a new character after i15 there is a giant space now in between Atlas and Galaxy city.... New going rogue location start point?
Going to check villains locations to see if its the same (which should kinda confirm the strange change :P) -
I'm finding it difficult to be faithful to the timing on this, there's been a lot going on atm and i'm finding it hard to be able to commit to a particular time. That said the time i have had im trying to catch up with everyone :s but i guess its not the same.
Anyway i'll try my best to make it next week hopefully should be ok
