I'd put my vote in for Energy Blast. Too many of the attacks use the exact same animation. Perhaps adding in other one-handed blast animations to the mix.
I also personally dislike Torrent's blast effect. A triangle of energy crawling along the floor feels out of place with the balls of energy. Maybe something along the lines of Night Fall from Dark Blast, or maybe just making the triangle of energy fly instead crawl. -

Quote:But you see a good Healer wouldn't do any of that. I've been told that a TRUE HEALER is an empath who skips all his attacks (and leaves the required one unslotted) takes nothing but the first 3 heals and the Rez, the full Medicine Pool for Aid Other and the Rez and then any other power you can find but won't slot or use because they're not heals.I'm sick of all the emp hate. My emp is bad ***. He has almost perma RAs. He can fort 4 1/2 team members at once. He does massive recharge debuffs (psi secondary). Did I mention he wears pink?.
An Empath's JOB is putting the AoE Heal on auto and healing everyone and everything all the time leaving no time for anything else because anything else is a waste of end, waste of time and waste of Healing.
But then that's some of what I've been told, and others are incredible (like one guy saying that non-Farming players need to be banned from the game)
There have been times where my Dark Defender was kicked from teams because he "wasn't a Healer", and I've seen people hold on tightly to the idea that any non-Empath Defender is a waste of time to play because they don't heal. That is what we rage against because an Emp/Psi Defender has 18 Primary/Secondary powers to use and they're all useful; but many people insist that only the first 3 in Empathy is worthwhile and that's all they use, even when told otherwise or even shown otherwise. -
I'm nto even sure if this is the right section, but here goes.
I've been trying to convince a friend of mine to try City of Heroes; and he's interested. Thing is, he needs to download the client.
What's more, is that he lives in southern Africa, and his ISP had a hard cap on how much data he's allowed to download per month. Downloading the client and updating the game would certainly put him over his limit, cutting him off from the internet until the next month.
What he's looking for is a local place to download the game from, and is hoping for a way to download the game in seperate parts.
Is that doable, or is he out of luck and will have to kill his download limit for a few months to get it? -

Quote:I know how you feel, I've done that trial I don't know how many times now, but I know I can count the sucesses on one hand. Actually, it just takes two fingers. It'd be great if they'd redo that one. I was hoping it'd get a remake when Hollows was polished and given some tweaking, but that didn't happen.I SAY VARIOUS RUDE WORDS IN YOUR GENERAL DIRECTION, EMMETT! A Trial should not be made unwinnable because one person disconnects! That is a [Deleted] stupid design choice!
...I never want to touch that trial again. I never even want to touch the Hollows again.
My experience was just that bad. -
Quote:For some missions, yeah, they help a new player get to see the city and learn some of the ropes like where mobs spawn at or what level the area is; but others do more harm than good like the first Hunt 10 CoT in Perez Park which is usually given to someone who's just leveled enough to enter it and the nearest CoT are well above your level. There were times on Defenders of mine the fight was one-for-one, I'd kill one Thorn minion and the rest would kill me at near the same moment. While I'm just as tired of these missions as anyone, let me interject something. Think way back to when you were brand new to CoH. These missions did a decent job of sending you everywhere and getting a feel for the place, letting you deal with baddies in the streets that are in your way, learning which ones are where and how tough they are. We've all been into this long enough that we don't need it, but I think truly new players *do* need it.
But those hunt 50 carnies in PI missions, yeah, those can go.
That mission wouldn't be so bad if it weren't given so early, much like the "Hunt Clockwork in Boomtown" you get from the Security Chief; you'd more than likely get that mission at around lvl10-12, and have to jog all the way from the originating contact, all the way up Steel Canyon, and then all the way from the Boomtown gate to where the Clockwork spawn in at, usually in large groups +1 to your level (if not more). Should you die fighting the large mob of Clockwork, then you either hope to have a Rez on you or you're walking all the way from Steel's Hospital back to the mob which usually reset and is full strength again.
Granted Safeguard temp powers and Ninja Run help that problem, but it'd still be far better to move the mission to a higher level range (barring a re-make of the zone given to others like Hollows and Faultline).
You know, something just occured to me (that plenty of others probably realized). Most of the old content was made with a different frame of MMO Gaming in mind. Back in the early days of CoH, Jack was making the game in a way that forced us to do things, usually difficult things, no matter what. Need to click on simultanious glowies? Forced to team. Have to hunt 50 Carnies in Peregrine? Forced to hunt (sometimes) rare mobs that spawn low numbers. Able to solo an even con Boss? Better not, or Jack will change the coding so you're forced to team with at least 5 others to take it down. Even the contacts themselves won't give you their Cell until late in their mission list. That's basically the thinking of other older and mainstream Fantasy MMOs. -
Quote:Then an MMO might not be the right type of game for you. For a Single Player game, then absolutely; 4 hours is a lot of time to play in one go, and 10 is an incredible amount. Goodness knows I felt beyond dead losing track of time in XCom, Civilization or Oblivion and feeling stupid at myself for playing them so much in a single go.I consider, say, 4 hours of continuous play in a video game to be a significant amount of invested effort. 10+ hours is starting to get ridiculous, being more than an average work day invested in a game. If I don't get worthwhile returns on that, the game is stingy.
But in the world of MMO's time is different. The game isn't set up to give you a lot of big name rare rewards in 4 hours of play, but more like 4 months of play. For instance, Purple IOs don't drop but for an extremely lucky few; I've talked to SG mates who, while playing about 4-6 hours per day, have yet to get a single Purple since they came out. I myself have gotten I think 4 since Purples were added to the game, and I play in upwards of 6-8 hours per day. -
There's one for enhancements that I never knew about until well into my 4th year here.
With DO grade enhancements you can combine other DO's of a matching origin.
If you are a Natural origin and have a Natural/Tech damage DO slotted and have a Magic/Natural DO on hand, you can combine it into your slotted enhancement.
This only works with DOs that have the matching origin to the player; so while a Magic/Natural can combine with a Natural/Tech for use in a Natural Hero, a Mutant/Magic or Tech/Science won't. -
Quote:What about the intent to club baby seals, getting to do it, and then deepfrying them into tasty little nuggets?Combination of both
If you mean well, but do bad, you're not evil (but you may go to jail).
If you mean bad, but do well, you're not evil (you can always get away with saying you meant well).
If you mean bad AND do bad, then you're evil (which includes kicking puppies and clubbing baby seals). -
Ah, okay. That sounds more like how it'd work. The way it's been worded earlier in the thread makes it sound like Back Alley Brawler knows how to suck a soul from beyond simply by being one of the Surviving Eight.
-
Quote:Even that can be a stretch; how does Back Alley Brawler know how to train my Dark Defender on how to forcibly summon a soul from the Netherworld? The trainers aren't teaching you how to throw a fireball, they're teaching you how to use it effectively. Just because you know how to do something doesn't mean you automatically have the knowledge to apply that skill to a situation where people's lives depend on you doing it correctly.
Me: Hey there Back Alley Brawler. I know I'm strong enough to force a soul from the great beyond into helping me for a while, but I need to know how.
Him: . . . .I punch things kid. Punch them hard. So....punch the universe?
Me: Ok then, never mind. Hey there Castle; I need to know how to yank a soul against its will from the netherworld to help me in combat.
Castle: I'm a mutant that can shoot things with fire. Well, I can also heal you with this tricorder thingie I got. Does that help?
Me: Right. Ok, Mynx? Can you hel-
Mynx: Get away from me! The Furries will find me if you stick around me too long! Shoo, shoo!
Me: o_o; -
I gotta ask, do you know what series that is with the team standing with their arms on their hips and wearing what looks like a gun holster/vest on their chest?
It's the third shot down on the left hand side. I know it's not a Power Ranger series, but I'd like to know what to look for with what little Google Fu I have. ^_^
Of course I still want to find that Supaida-Man series, it was corny, but dang cool to see Spider-Man owning sentai Mooks. -
You don't even have to Frankenslot IO Sets to get really good performance.
On my main, a Dark/Dark Defender, I just went with one set per-power and stuck with it, and he's better than he ever was with SOs, simply because I can edge out most stuff without having to worry what set and what IO goes where.
In his heal, I just changed the slotting from 2Acc, 1End, 1Rech, 2 Heal over to every Touch of Nictus set, and it became a great power, with the added bonus of getting it to do damage.
Using Mids to make sets and design where I'd like my toon to go, where he might go, and planning out how to utilize the Secondary Build feature makes it a lot easier. -
Quote:It's the other Radio mission, Find the location of the Wyvern Financier, when the Longbow Financer and Wyvern boss see you their dialog isOK, you didn't link to the guide you mentioned, so I'm going to have to ask for clarification on this one. I may or may not remember one instance of one Longbow benefactor in one missions (namely, the Hit List, which may actually have been a Legacy Chain representative), but beyond that, I more remember Longbow and Wyvern getting into fights, not helping each other. One mission, in particular, has you frame Wyvern in front of Longbow by forging shipping manifests, because "Longbow stick to the letter of the law," as per contact admission.
Quote:(aggroed)
Wyvern Representative: Looks like we didn't have to look far. That's Character.
Financier: I can't be seen here!
Quote:And what of hiring out people to do their dirty work? Outisde of Indigo and Crimson inexplicably being ret-conned into Longbow agents, despite their being a round much longer than Longbow has actually existed, what are we talking about?
I'm talking about them hiring Wyvern; they're the 'Hero' group that does their best to kill all the villains, something that Longbow seems to be against, considering they're always trying to arrest villains rather than kill them.
They *are* the good guys, but they're not above using means that are less than heroic. I'm not saying they're evil, but they certainly are a far cry from being paragons of heroism. They work to do the best for the innocent, but they're willing to push the limits, as evidenced by their hiding weapons from the media and hiring out vigilanties in secret. -
Quote:For offical info on Longbow's doings and such, check the Longbow Guardian's Info.I'm sorry, but I just don't buy that. Unless you want to cite your source material that paints them villains, you're just hinging your entire point on your interpretation that an unambiguously POSITIVE group is fair game to be shot at and stabbed. How can you even make the argument that Miss Liberty is evil for sending unprepared kids to die on the one side, and then go out of your way to "provoke" them by shooting them in the face and still try to claim the moral high ground?
Longbow protect innocent people from murder and kidnapping. Longbow protect the streets of the city from villains and criminals. Longbow basically go out of their way to do the right thing, even if they end up presuming too much. Even their very WORST portrayal, as found in the various Vanguard story arcs, is still far removed from anything even remotely approaching a negative light. They might not be the Superman type heroes, but I have a really hard time accepting a character as "heroic" if he'd ventilate Longbow agents like they're any common gang.
Quote:Longbow is a hard-hitting division of Freedom Corps dedicated to stopping evil, and Arachnos in particular. Guardians are wet-behind-the-ears do-gooders looking to prove themselves. Most don't last beyond their first encounter with the big bad bruisers of the Rogue Isles.
For their less-than-Heroic means, look at the Longbow Flamethrower;
Quote:Harkening back to the days of flaming arrows are Longbow's flamethrowers. They typically try not to use these when the press is around--burning enemies alive plays poorly on the evening news for a "heroic" organisation.
They're also quite willing to hire people to do all kinds of dirty work, work they can't be linked to if brought to the open; they help fund Wyvern, a 'hero' group that aims to kill villains rather than bring them to justice (and hire only people with a grudge against villains). They also hire Mindspider, a former government Hero that was let go due to too many 'disciplinary actions' and went Freelance.
This shows they're willing to get people to do the wrong thing for the right reason, as long as their hands don't have the blood on it they're clear of any wrongdoing (in a way similar to the aliens found in S. Andrew Swann's book Forests of the Night, the aliens were pacifists but in their own mind if they hired out violent people to further their own ends, then they were still adhering to being non-violent).
I really doubt Statesman, who holds the belief that a Hero should never, under any circumstance take the life of a villain, even if it's to save another Hero in immediate and mortal danger, would hire a contract killer to off Recluse, Reichman or Tyrant. Longbow (and probably Ms Liberty too) don't hold to that ideal, at least in part since they're willing to hire others to do it for them. -
And it hasn't been fixed despite the new build.
I wonder if this is a known issue? I mean, they knew about it before, but do they know about it now? -
Other things were also part of his 'vision' and he wouldn't budge one iota about it.
One being the Real Numbers we now have; under Jack he refused to release anything going near Real Numbers, because as he said he wanted the game to be friendly to everyone, number crunching Min/Maxers and Casual Players alike, and the addition of Real Numbers would exclude the Casual Player by making him feel inferior and/or confused, and thus leave the game.
One of the first things we got once he left was our beloved Combat Attributes, allowing us to see just how much To-Hit Debuffing those danged Spectral Demon Lords did to us (and the weeping could be heard across the world). -

Quote:That's how I prefer to handle them. I've gone out of my way to kill them if I see one. Any and all spiders give me the willies, I don't care how docile or cute other people say they can be; if they are found inside my home I will kill them with extreme haste, hate and bile.I tell my kids all about the useful role spiders play, blah, blah, blah. But I also tell them that their habitat is not allowed to intersect my habitat, and I enforce that with extreme prejudice.
I don't do "slow, agonizing" though. More like a swift transition from the 3D world to the 2D world, followed by an exciting water ride. -

Quote:So how do you explain Clockwork/Mu/Carnie/Malta Sapper draining?I have a character whose ability to even EXIST is a manifestation of his powers and his control over a specific type of energy. Removing that energy from him or preventing him from using it would prevent him from existing altogether.
I'm not being an a-hole; I'm curious at how you thought this through for your character. -
Quote:Don't we know that the one winner of that Wanna Be A Super Hero game show plays CoH? Couldn't we get him?Hey, if CoH players want to use my vids to proactively spread the word to others, by all means, go ahead. They're on YouTube (most of them, anyway) - that's what they're there for! Show friends, post links on Twitter, whatever. (Or hell, even if you don't use mine, I wish the players would find the ones they DO like - official or otherwise - and spread the word!)
And yes, it'd be great if we could get the equivalent of Ozzy doing the WoW ad and get someone (or multiple someones) doing COH commercials.
In fact...
If there are 'famous' people on here who are willing to lend themselves to a video (I promise not to 'out' your characters), PM me. I'm dead serious. I'll make the damn ad myself.
