It's a fun game, although I seem to have pretty bad luck with my level bonuses. Only 1 weapon at lvl 4 and one of my abilities has only triggered in one fight out of 4 that it should have worked in. -
I created my first page on the site as I've come up with the first character idea of mine that I felt really needed to be expanded beyond the little box we get in game. I still need to work on formatting and such, but I think I've got the basics done. I'll be updating/adding to the story over time, but new sections will probably wait until I get higher level as I'm not entirely sure how VEATs fit in in certain aspects yet since mine is still relatively low level.
A warning, it does contain mature content (and is labeled appropriately). The "Torture" section of the origin in particular may not be for everyone, but I wanted something appropriate for the name, as well as not going with something too common.
Here's the link: Torture
Any comments are welcome. -
I knew this wasn't an actual feature, but I would sort of like to see it added as an option. Keep it turned off by default with a few different options (self only, self + pets, teammates, etc.) and don't have it actually replace sound when turned on, but it could be fun at times to use, particularly for screenshots or player made videos with a music background.
Obviously not as part of Issue 12 if the entire thing was faked, but in one of the upcoming issues I think it'd make a nice feature. -

Or you could, you know, think of something original instead of proposing an increasingly elaborate and unnecessary system so you (and who knows how many others) can grab at all the patently unoriginal names someone else got before you.
[/ QUOTE ]
What makes a name original? Pretty much any combination of words, even if in other languages that'd fit certain concepts can easily be thought of by anyone. Especially with names not being freed up that are remaining inactive for long periods of time, people are having to dig deeper to get one that still fits their concept, making coming up with an "original" name that much tougher as everyone is coming up with "original" names.
The only names I'd really say that could be original and are unlikely for someone else to think up is a first and last name combination, like we are named in RL. While that isn't bad for some concepts, it isn't really how comic heroes tend to name themselves when "in costume," so wouldn't be appropriate for many concepts as well. Some do add some letters or a word or similar to a name for all their characters which help them get certain names and could be called original, but I don't like doing that as most of my characters have a wide range of backgrounds so wouldn't fit any sort of concept of mine and even though I'm not really much of a RPer, having a fitting name is important to me.
I don't see how someone losing a name for a character on a game that they probably won't ever play again (1-3 years is a very long time when it comes to MMOs) as a bad thing. If someone wanted to return after that amount of time and lost their name, while I'm sure they'd be a bit upset, it is very unlikely they resubscribed solely to play a character(s) with a certain name, but rather wanted to play the game itself again due to all the changes that have happened in the time since they last subscribed. -
[ QUOTE ]
What if the level limit goes higher the more time the account has been inactive?
3 months: level 5 and under
6 months: level 20 and under
9 months: level 30 and under
12 months: level 40 and under
[/ QUOTE ]
This is what I was hoping they'd do for it when they brought back the name policy. If someone played and got to 40 or whatever level during Issue 0-2 (or whatever low number) and haven't been back since, there really is no reason their name should remain reserved.
Level 6 may free up a lot of unused names, but I'm sure there are many more, that are much more desired, that have been sitting unused for potentially years now that may have gotten past the last policy due to being 35+.
If all old (and existing) customers were sent an email about it as well as the various game sites that are likely going to mention it as well, I couldn't see the harm in it, especially if it was a name of a higher level character, meaning a long absence would be required first. If they care enough about a name they'll reactivate to save it and if not then it'd be better for someone else who will use it to get it.
I'd like to see it go past 40 though, preferrably all the way to 50 or maybe 49. I think maybe up to 45 after 2 years of inactivity and 50 after 3 years would be reasonable, maybe a bit less for the 50. That is a very long time to be away from a game without reactivating, and if it is a known policy it isn't that much to keep the names of one's high level characters if they mean that much. -

Who is going to pick a +3 SO over a SHO?
Thanks for the change tho.
[/ QUOTE ]
While it wasn't listed with the change, it is possible this fixes the bug that I've seen some post (don't have a level 45 villain, let alone a level 50 so can't try it myself) where if the LRSF is completed a second time before the reward timer is up, it resets the timer on being able to get a SHO despite not getting one on the second run through. It could encourage people to do it more often to help their friends get a SHO or to try various tactics without having to worry about the timer being reset if successful. The SO would be less important than the fact that you could do the SF multiple times a day (for whatever reason) without being penalized on getting SHOs when you are eligible again.
If the reward timer does reset even if you pick a SO then I could see it being of little value other than ensuring you can have a slot available for your SHO. -

I'm not sure who thinks the Bruiser has "subpar" damage, I was trying out a lvl 40 Thug/Dark on test and he was hitting with KO Blow for 272+ Damage and doing over 110 with Footstomp AoE.
[/ QUOTE ]
He has good potential damage, however, to get him to do that damage requires much more effort than any other MM does. He almost always will only use both those attacks just outside melee range, and after using he rarely if ever moves into melee range on his own nor does he use Hurl. If he would use them consistantly in melee range he would do much better. Thats not counting the times he just stands there waiting for a power with a longer recharge to attack when he has powers like Jab which recharge in a few seconds. As it is, to get the most out of him, you'll want to issue an attack at range to get him to use Hurl, move him just outside melee range for KO Blow, Foot Stomp, and Hand Clap, then move him into melee range for Jab, Punch, and Haymaker. Considering how even using goto they don't always stop exactly where you aim (since you are going for specific distances it is important), that can even more goto commands to accomplish while with a Necro/ or Ninja/ MM I just issue an attack command, a goto on the enemy and then another attack command and I'm done.
I may be a bit more critical of the Bruiser than some because my highest level villain is a SS Brute, so I have decent experience with the same powers the Bruiser uses.
I am still almost definatly going to create a Thugs MM when I7 goes live, but I think it is important to bring up the issues with it beforehand so that it can hopefully be fixed or at least improved a bit while still on test. -
The Bruiser doesn't seem to use his powers correctly. It seems pretty rare that he will use KO Blow or Foot Stomp if he is right next to the enemy. Both attacks have greater than normal melee range and he seems to use them consistantly when in that range, but out of melee range. He will use KO Blow occassionally in regular melee range, but not as often. Foot Stomp I don't think I've ever seen him use when right next to the opponent.
The way he decides what attack to use also seems to be messed up. Sometimes he will use one of Jab, Punch or Haymaker to attack 2 or 3 times in a row, even though he had to have other attacks recharge in that time, especially on the times it was one of the latter two. I've also seen him go through 3 spawns in a row and not once throw Haymaker, and then he starts using it again.
If these problems aren't addressed, it really hurts the effectiveness of the Thugs set.
With the problems I mentioned, the Bruiser is actually a pretty mediocre damage dealer. I did some testing against Council from newspaper missions as a Thugs/Dark and a Necro/Poison MM. During the tests no secondaries were used besides the heals to keep the henchmen standing and I only counted the tests against the regular human soldiers, who I believe are neutral to both smashing and lethal damage. The only henchmen used was the Bruiser with both Enforcers and the Enforcers always on passive, near the Bruiser and not attacking, and a single Grave Knight. With the bugs mentioned earlier in this post, the Bruiser almost always took longer to defeat enemies than a single Grave Knight would. If I could trick the Bruiser into using KO Blow and Foot Stomp, he did kill quicker, but it didn't seem easy to get him to use them. When I used both Grave Knights it didn't even seem close. Both were moved into melee range on passive before starting to ensure they would use melee attacks and not stick to only ranged. -
I haven't been through too much of Grandville yet since I don't have a level 40 villain, but I took a quick look around with my Brute and I really liked what I saw. I still need to take a better look around as I've been spending most of my time on test playing a Thug MM. I'll probably wait until the crashing bugs are fixed since I seem to crash fairly often when zoning.

Would it not be incredibly funny if they released a new PPP with issue 8??? Oh, and it would kicks [censored], too bad you can't repec into it....
[/ QUOTE ]
If they were to add new patrons, I'm sure they will give everyone a chance to change. They never said the PPPs will always be permanent. Most likely new PPPs would mean new patrons, who probably aren't loyal to Arachnos. They probably wouldn't care if you betrayed Arachnos to join them.

Ok, I'm getting really tired of saying this, but if you plan on using the word "lag" in a post, know what it means. I have a helpful guide in my signature to let people know.
LAG IS NOT LOW FRAMERATE! LAG IS PACKET LOSS DUE TO POOR INTERNET CONNECTION PERFORMANCE! ARGHHHGGGHGHGHG!
Phew, glad I got that out of my system.
[/ QUOTE ]
Psst. Do you have any idea how geeky it makes you appear when you get upset about something like that?
[/ QUOTE ]
Especially since he uses one of the stereotypical uses for lag on the internet, yet ignores what lag really means. Lag fits well with either description yet some people who claim to know what they are talking about don't realize that. Lag can even be used in RL too when not talking about the internet or anything network related, using the same definition. -

Add me to the list as well. My highest is a level 46 Scrapper and I've been around since CoH's head start (and beta), atlhough with a few small breaks.
Congrats on 2 years, it has been fun and from the sounds of things, the next year+ should be even more fun.
I personally like knowing that there is a retail expansion coming. It will get more people to notice the game since there will be another box in stores new release section and it also means the devs will get more money to develop the game with, which will hopefully mean content is released faster or maybe more content or better content or some combination of those. I don't think they will stop the free issues after the expansion and almost definatly not be like EQ where you get 2 expansions every year you have to buy if you want new content.

Baka means stupied.
[/ QUOTE ]
Baka means idiot (also fool, trivial matter), not stupid or "stupied." Futsutsuka or bakabakashii would be better if you wanted to call someone stupid or bakamono for stupid person. Only commenting on this to correct the quote, not so anyone can start using them on other people here. If you want to call someone a fool, do it in english, or better yet, don't bother and say something that is actually constructive. -
[ QUOTE ]
No, this is a REAL problem. I've played a lot of CoH, and I can tell you we are very cash poor in CoV.
And it is now serious. Apparently level 19, is the breaking point. I'm now at level 18, and DREADING getting to 19. That's because almost all my enhancements will turn red, and i won't have anywhere near enough infamy to get enhancements, And with most of my enhancements going red, i won't have the power to get the infamy.
[/ QUOTE ]
Don't buy all DOs. Buy DOs for the powers that need them and the others use drops and if you must, buy TOs. My Merc/Traps MM is up to level 15 and I currently have 4 DOs, the rest are either TO or empty/red. The 4 DOs I have are all in Aid Other, 2 heals and 2 recharges. While DOs do make a big difference, Masterminds especially can do well without them. I'd recommend slotting your Twilight Grasp (I'm going by the lvl 18 MM in your sig) with DOs and not worry about other slots for now. You'll want your heal to be decent to help keep your henchmen and teammates up, but your other powers are generally good enough with just TOs. I rarely even use anything in my MM's secondary (only have Web Gernade so far) and can get by fine, so I'm sure even if you just have Twilight Grasp (since you have to have it) you can do fine as well since it is much better than Aid Other for combat heals.
From what I've heard it won't completely solve the problem, but the extra infamy will be handy by the time I get to 22, even if it only means an extra SO or two, but I'll probably use a similar technique and just switch up one on each until infamy isn't as much of a problem.
I am curious about the treasure chests Positron mentioned. I never saw any in beta and haven't seen any in live yet either. Do they spawn in every zone and are they located in specific areas or are they random spawns anywhere in a zone? Also, how much infamy do they give? -

Word of "Ninjitsu" is wrong. Word of "Ninjitsu" does not exist in Japanese. "Ninjutsu" is right.
[/ QUOTE ]
A quick web search shows the spelling as virtually interchangeable, even by schools which specialize in the form. Not likely to be changed.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ninjitsu and Ninjutsu generally aren't the same martial art. From what I understand Ninjitsu is basically an American spin off of Ninjutsu, which often isn't even related in any way to the original art. Sometimes it may be a translation error, but it is probably used mostly as a way to catch unsuspecting people who don't notice the difference in the one letter or enough about Ninjutsu to know that isn't what they are learning.
If you consolt a translation site (try the Japanese translator Here if you don't know of any, board censors the direct link to the Japanese page so you'll have to go to it yourself) or book, you'll see Ninjitsu isn't even a japanese word, but Ninjutsu is.
Even if you look just at the parts that are different, jitsu and jutsu, there is quite a difference in their meaning. Jutsu means art or means, while jitsu means truth, reality, sincerity, fidelity, or kindness. Even if you look at it as a combination of 2 seperate Japanese words, which sounds more appropriate for a Stalker, Ninja Art or Ninja Truth/Ninja Kindness? -
New SGs are still granted the 36,000,000 prestige. I've tried on 2 seperate characters, with the last one just being a few minutes ago and both SGs started with 36,020,000 prestige.

Actuallly its more like an extension of the blouse than anything else. Why don't you ever seen women who dress like that in real life?
[/ QUOTE ]
Tekken and Steert Fighter.
Only digital women and women paid to look like digital women wear clothes like that.
[/ QUOTE ]
Don't forget Dead or Alive, which is where that pic is actually from.
I know its not really a skirt, but don't know what it really would be called. If it was added to CoH it would most likely be a skirt option unless it was attached to a top like the shirts with tails they are adding. It would fit with the whole anime/manga theme and DOA is a game that has anime inspired characters, and this game was adding anime/manga inspired costumes, so seemed like a decent and possible addition.
Edit:
There are other women that wear those types of clothes, just not normally. Go to an anime/gaming convention and you'll see a lot of females (and a few males) dressed in clothes like that. -
