Actually, it would mean he is a member of the Indigo Tribe rather than a Green Lantern.

Quote:I realize that. And they would also be VIP for a month and get a Reward Token for that. But the $5.00 for points is right in the game, no searching needed, and they don't have to worry about getting screwed because the seller lied about the "unused code" they were purchasing.Heck, they don't even have to spend $5, if they can find a good deal on a box set. The first time any retail code is added to a game account, a token is granted (only one token total, not per box)... and I've seen box sets as low as $1.50. Just "caveat emptor"...make sure your purchase says "factory sealed" or "unused code", or you have no recourse after purchase if you've been bilked.
Quote:I had to delete two spam emails this week so far, plus there was some level 1 guy in the Atlas CH advertising in /local. That was THIS LAST WEEK.
So everyone going "oh, the RMT stuff isn't a problem anymore," is actively wrong. I for one do not want to see it made worse by lifting the chat restriction on free accounts, especially since it will not be a problem for ANY premium account. They really need to put in another channel for teaming so Free players can be sent there.

All I can really give you an opinion on is the Empyreans. Keep them. Only 1 or 2 per trial, they build up way too slowly to convert. You don't know what may be added to the Incarnate rewards that you will want, and building them up takes a long time if you are a casual Trial runner.
Astrals are easier to build up, so if you want to convert them I would. I am using mine for the costume bits right now, then I will worry about what else to do with them. If the costumes don't interest you, or the IO recipes, then do as you want. -
Quote:And the third time you do it, you get a Reward Token for one of those slots. Although buying $15 of points at a time is a better deal. You get an extra hundred or so for a bonus. Also consider purchasing IO licenses. $5 every 2.5 months will keep those IOs functioning for you.
Edit for clarity: An IO license is worth $2, but the minimum point purchase is $5. So pay $5, and you've got the IO license for 2 months, with $1 worth of points left. For the third month, pay another $5, and you've got enough points for 3 more months. -
Quote:The first time I ever heard of a lifetime subscription was the small people one. The pre-launch sale happened to hit just as I was getting my tax refund, so I decided to take a chance on it. It paid off.I *honestly* cannot think of an MMO that had launched previously or at the same time as WoW that actually had a lifetime subscription offer... Did they even consider doing it seeing as none of the competition had previously done it? Although WoW is popular, at that point in time it wasnt exactly "unique" apart from being more casual orientated (for the main part until you hit the end game *spit*)
The first one that springs to my mind was the elvish/small people one.
Quote:I'm for allowing premiums to have communications, but freebies, no. It doesn't matter if you haven't seen an e-mail or tell from rmters, but they will view Freedom as a new launching point. That being said, being able to reply to a tell, fine, but not send. I do not want to go back to reporting every other tell. My ignore list is still full from last time. -
Quote:I am intrigued by your idea and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.I would however like to see something that appears in DDO. Past Lives. So I could re-roll a character I no longer enjoy at 50, but keep all the unlocks on that character. That, is badges, costume parts things of that nature. And then have to level as a new class but gain a bonus linked to my old class. (Maybe only after hitting 50). In DDO it takes longer to level for each subsequent life, because after reincarnating you need more XP/level than before. Yet people do still 'reincarnate' many times.
You really should put that on the Suggestions forum. Some folks there will hate it, but I like the idea. -
Quote:Even with the special VIP points we still can't actually touch/see/smell any of the stuff we buy. I wouldn't want you to be disappointed. So basically, aside from our monthly subscription payments, we are going to be paying real money for virtual items that we will never own/touch/see/smell in the physical, real world? Unless of course, we have enough of these special VIP points.

Quote:As long as the information on your card is up to date and you have the credit available on it, you will have no problem.i was just worried cause if they stopped the time thing they might change it but i guess i am in the clear hopefully if not i will be very upset with it ... but in this case i hope it does auto renew
Quote:Do what I did: Sit down and make a bullet point list of everything VIPs get versus everything Premium Free and Standard Free gets, then compare the costs given various situations. You'll find out that VIPs, despite what looks like great "benefits" continually get the shorter end of the stick when it comes to overall value, not just in terms of points allotted vs. points paid, unless you're in the 1 or 2% who have the highest possible veteran rewards and are overloaded with characters.
Each person will place different values on what we are getting. I personally have never used a server transfer and it is doubtful I will any time soon. So they will stack up. And I have never used a free character slot or costume token from my Vet Rewards. So they obviously are not high value items in my opinion. But they are still nice perks to have around if I ever decide I need them. But for other people, they are highly valuable commodities and they would be happy to take them off of my hands if it was possible.
What it comes down to is you need to decide how much things are worth to you. Don't say that VIPs "continually get the shorter end of the stick when it comes to overall value", because that is making the same kind of value judgements for others that you protest when they are made about you and character slots. If you look at Lost Ninja's list of things VIPs get and decide "I don't care about that, that, or that, and I have those things from Tier rewards." then maybe you should let your subscription lapse. That is your choice, based on what you value. Personally, while I guarantee you are not getting more from vet rewards than I am, I still think the value I am receiving for the cost of VIP is worth paying.
Quote:One thing that bugs me is seeing people say that if VIPs just wait two months, then the 800 point "premium" power sets are free. But that is only true if you don't want ANYTHING else at all from the store. And I think it is safe to say that almost every costume piece or perk is going to cost points to buy. And that too will be said to be fine, because VIPs will have 400 points a month to play with, so given enough patience, everything will be free.
But it really seems like not much will be free. IMO.
And they have said that not all new costume pieces, powersets, etc. will cost money. We will still be getting 2 or 3 free issues a year, the same way we always have. We will just be getting other stuff in the store too. -
Quote:The binds are loaded, but you need to zone before they will take affect. It is a problem with the system and since it is unsupported, no fixes have appeared. Which is disappointing since I had made a healthy start on a hunting PopMenu switching around binds on the fly. When I use an Option line with "bind_load_file" in it, I get a system message saying the bind file was successfully loaded, but it doesn't actually switch the binding. I know it's not an issue with my bind files, because they work fine when I use a keybinding or macro to load them. They just don't work with pop-up menus.
-
It is a bug. The Enhancement Boosters in I21 add pluses to IOs, and those become account bound. The code that did that also affected the Hami-Os, but it is not supposed to. They know about it but no clue how long before the fix goes through.

Quote:Yeah right. And everyone would be so happy to try getting these 100,000 inf at a time.To be fair, I never said it was a particularly good idea. Just that it would stop influence from being generated as fast as it is.
As for the OP, not a bad idea. -
Actually, the fact the Devs are against it means everything. They are the ones in charge. If they don't want it, even if every single player does want it, it doesn't happen. Since the number of players that want something like this is far less than 100%, and the Devs have said it would take huge amounts of work and code re-writing, and no one has actually presented an argument that it would actually be a good thing for the game, I am not going to hold my breath that it will ever happen. Thank goodness.

Quote:Karen Wynn Fonstad I presume? Have you seen her Pern volume?I will add to what I said before then. I loved the books (still do) though much preferred The Hobbit to the actual Lord of the Rings. (Still have a map companion for LotR which is even better... love maps).
Quote:However while LotRO is aimed at fans of the books and films what I read while I was thinking about having a go lead me to think that more credence is given to the films than the books. That is while it isn't based solely on the films more is film like than book like.
And for the same reason I won't dabble in the various attempts at Pern MMOs I won't dabble in Middle Earth MMOs. A good RPG set in either whether that be computer based or some other format I would love to play. Or even a game set there that doesn't use the settings/characters from the books I love, I'd try.
Also WoW has enough Legololz (et al) to last me a life time, I don't need to play the game where they're twenty a penny. :/
And a lot of people there are very much fans of the books. Involved in the lore and the changes that are made to make it into a fun game. If you are fan, you should give it a try. Not like it costs you anything, since it is free, umm, a hybrid game. -
I think a lot of it depends on where you are on the Rewards tiers. I am a 7 year vet. If I dropped to Premium, I would lose Incarnate stuff, the Tier 9 VIP stuff, and free access to things like Signature Arcs and Time Manipulation. But the occasional Point purchase would make that stuff up, and give me more Rewards tokens if I felt like using the regular Tier 9 consumables. So dropping to Premium would be pretty good deal for me.
OTOH, the people that have that kind of a deal are also the ones that have been the most loyal customers to the game. We have been here from the start, through the Purple Patch, ED, the Defense Nerf, and all the other bad times. And through the good ones. I figure the ones with the least to lose by dropping to Premium are also the ones most likely to stay VIP. Because frankly, we love this game. -
Quote:I was actually making the argument that the COH set up was superior to the other game's. I was ignoring the content purchases for two reasons, 1st, we have unlockable quests and zones in Freedom with First Ward and Signature Arcs (Obviously many less of them, another point in COH's favor), and 2nd, I am not really clear on what is and is not available over there for free since I am a VIP who bought the expansions before the switch over. (Possibly the best $200 investment I have ever made. This is incorrect.
If you are a free player in that game, you get access to all the zones - but you only get QUEST ACCESS to the three starter zones - the equivalent of Galaxy, Atlas and Imperial City. In order to progress past level 20 or so, you have to either start going zone-to-zone and just grinding mobs, or you have to buy zone quest packs.
That is a LOT more restrictive than being able to roll all the way to 50 with full access to all contacts who aren't incarnate or Praetorian.)
Quote:That's exactly what I mean. Rather than working for something the developers are giving impatient players a means to obtain something a lot of people have worked for. Instead of saying STFU and work for it they're enabling a generation of "instant gratification-ers."
Quote:Ok, I don't know about you, but I didn't actually work for any of my vet rewards. I basically paid $45 each for them and now they'll be worth $15. Plenty of things I've paid for get devalued over time (cars, books, movies, most of my video games except for Panzer Dragoon Saga, and the good majority of the comic books I bought in the '90s) and I don't see how this is really all that different.
Heck, I'll keep on getting stuff faster now as well so fun times about that.
Quote:And by my calculations, for the amount of time I played, my payments were something like 6 times what a subscription would have cost me for the same time.
They made a pretty smart business decision. -
Quote:As I said in my earlier post, $5.00 gets a free player: Ablity to join Supergroups, Access to Tell, Supergroup, and Coalition Communication Channels, Mail System Access, Player-to-Player Trading, Increased Inf cap of 500 million per character, Play stories within the Mission Architect (no rewards)* Edit: what reward tier allows access to /tells? I don't know. But if I'm a new player, the first thing I want to do is look at a big spreadsheet to see what sort of things I can and can't do
Quote:Bit late on this Tony but I believe that the $2 is a monthly fee for IO's. And I think the Auction House is the same. You 'rent' the use really. -
When you are a low level character, and you are checking out a high level ambush of Rikti in Perez Park, don't click on them to use info if you are in melee range and have Brawl on Auto-toggle. It goes something like *whiff* *faceplant*, only much faster.

Quote:Don't worry, they can't send you a tell to ask in the first place. And if they spend $5 and get to the reward level that allows them to send you the tell, they can also accept the inf.I'll go ahead and promise to give any free player that asks 1 million influence to get over the learning curve dealing with enhancements.
Just send a tell to @Maestro Mavius and I'll email the funds asap!
(at least I would if they could accept it, which they can't.)

Quote:This is based on the current beta prices, which they have already said are not going to be the live prices, for most items. We do not know how much anything will cost when Freedom goes live.Buying everything from what used to be a Booster Pack will cost considerably more than what the pack originally called (except the Party Pack). As much as three times as much, if purchased piecemeal. There will be collections of items/costumes, possibly even to include the whole shebang, but they aren't on the market yet in beta... and it's not likely to cost the same as it did before.

Quote:To be fair about it, crafting and the auction house in LOTRO is a very integral part of the game. It was included in the original design and the players are pointed to the crafting houses at level 5. And you are introduced to the Auction House (If you even need an introduction by that point) by the quest that takes you on a tour of Bree when you reach it.I play two MMOs. City of Heroes is my sub game and LotRO is my free game for when I need a break from CoH. I like LotRO but I only have budget for one subscription game at a time so when I do play I might pay out a few dollars for the next piece of content I want to play.
Looking at what CoH is offering does not compare favourably. As a newbie to LotRO I had access to tells, server-wide player made chat channels, the majority of the crafting system and could buy items from the auction house. I could theoretically (if I put enough time in) unlock the entire content of the game by earning Turbine Points just through playing the game. As it is I have bought points, although 2/3 of the points I've spent in the store have been earned rather than purchased.
That is a very far cry from the Invention system and the AH in CoH. They weren't added to the game until Issue 9, three years after launch. While useful and fun they are not necessary parts of the game in the same way. Having them behind a license fee is not that big of a deal.
The only real differences between the markets in the 2 games are the chat channel availability and the ability to get points in game to buy stuff. And all someone needs to do is spend $5 to get: Ablity to join Supergroups, Access to Tell, Supergroup, and Coalition Communication Channels, Mail System Access, Player-to-Player Trading, Increased Inf cap of 500 million per character, Play stories within the Mission Architect (no rewards).
But there is also no equivalent of the Paragon Reward Token system in LOTRO. Buy 1200 points, you get get this. Another 1200, you get more. And it adds up until you don't need to spend anymore to have almost the entire game available for no more money. You spend $15 for Turbine Points, all you get is the points.
The first 7 weren't that bad. The 2nd were not good. Almost halfway through the 3rd and you are almost used to it. -
Quote:Except they do not consider it an issue. As far as they are concerned, it is WAI. They want to give people an incentive to spend money for PPs. Even if it is just $2.00 a month. This is an issue that they should really work on if they want returning players. I could understand and accept not being able to add anymore inventions, but those that were made and slotted before freedom or while VIP usually required much thought, time, and resources. Without them, many previously made characters will be unplayable unless you buy many non IO's, which will take even more INF, which may be scarce at premium.
Since the absolute best price you can reliably get for subscribing is $11.95 a month for a 12 month subscription, $2.00 (or $4.00 if you need the license for the Auction House also) a month is a steal. And for people that have been subscribed for a long time, those fees don't apply. If I wasn't on a long term subscription and let my account lapse, the only thing in the game I would lose is Incarnates and the stuff in I21. Since I only have 1 level 50, it would not be that great of a loss. -
I have soloed Adamaster on my main, an Inv/SS tank. Took forever. But it was long before Incarnates. I don't think we had IOs even, but I could be wrong. It has been a long time either way.

Quote:OTOH, if he purchases GR before I21, he doesn't need to buy any licenses for it for Premium and he gets 2 more character slots. He should be able to get GR cheaper than all of that in the store, if it is for a Premium account. If I were you, I'd wait on buying GR because of I21. If you keep your second account subscribed, it'll be a VIP and get GR free. If you plan on letting it become a premium account, then it's a toss up, since we don't know the final prices yet for the licenses you could buy to effectively get GR.
