You both have good ideas and presentation, but I think I'm going to have to side with Arcanaville on this one. IF the current situation is a problem (I would cast it as a 'sleeper' problem. It could explode into a full blown issue at any moment, but right now, too few regular players exploit it for it to be an issue) then having each buff have the same effect would be the best solution.

    [/ QUOTE ]

read how people do STF and you will see the problem. Get 8 /rad controllers and the tf takes 45 minutes. Get a team with no controllers and defenders and you probably can't do the tf at all.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's not a problem with Def buffs/debuffs, that's a problem with the design of the STF. If you reduce the effectiveness of buffs/debuffs, Team 1 just has a harder job and team 2 STILL can't do it. In any case, the only group doing the STF is still team one and nothing has changed, so your "solution" has not solved anything.

    Full IO Sets

Some of them DO suck though, like the Slow powers one. Most of my Slow powers need 3 recharge reduceers to be viable, and the Slow sets all include 3 or 4 +slow effects and only 1 +rech effect. I don't need +slow effects when I'm hitting someone with 5 different slow powers. What I need are +recharge so that my good powers are up more than once every 10 minutes.

I'd also like to know why Cryptic hasn't taken advantage of many possible merchandising opportunities that exist with CoX because of its ties with comics.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The comics and novels failed miserably. Even many of the players of the game didn't want the comic free with their subscription, it was so bad, hence the option they had to put in to not have it sent to you.

The CoH "signature" characters are bland mashes of overused cliches, and this goes for heroes and villlains. So I'm not sure what they'd used for merchandising that would have any appeal.

    "Moral Combat"

    [ QUOTE ]
We brainwash our children into thinking that there is no such thing an immoral, heinous or unholy act. .

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, there is no such thing as an "unholy" act. It's quite possible to be a perfectly moral person and lack any element of holiness. In fact, lumping "unholy" in with "heinous" is how you create issues you describe in the first place...in fact, some of the most heinous crimes ever committed have been in the name of "holiness"

    Cryptic article.

Awesome, thanks for linking that. Interesting to finally see the origin of the Cryptic Studios name. I'd never seen that explained before.

    Edit:

    [ QUOTE ]

"City of Heroes was very tightly focused on moment to moment combat," Rogers says. "The Marvel game will have more big components to it. It's going to be all the stuff we wanted to put into City of Heroes, and you'll get to run around in Marvel costumes. We've got more money now and more people. We'll add more depth. We want to take it to the next level."

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thats a bit disheartening for CoH players. We're the reason Cryptic has more money. The quote makes it sounds like the plan is, put all the awesome ideas we wanted to have in the old game into the new game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Anyone who doesn't think that CoH is going to be the forgotten step-child of Cryptic now that they have the Marvel license is just fooling themselves. The game will linger on, but there will be a steady dwindling of features and support and within 1 - 2 years this game will essentially be in "maintenance-only" mode.

Not that that's terrible, after all, 5 - 6 years of decent support is more than a lot of computer games get.
  6. The problem isn't that peopple are doing it or can do it. there will always be people that take the time in a game to figure out ways to do things...they simply have a different interest/level of investment in the game than the casual player.

The problem is that the Devs, in the ir infinite"wisdom" constantly rebalance the game around forum posters and hardcore players, so over time the casual players all leave and new hardcore players come. and eventually, you might as well not sign on unless you're one of the hard core.
  7. Is it just me or will the earmiffus not show up the correct color in-game? They show correctly on the costume select screen, but won't change from orange in game.

Life isn't fair, nor should games be.

    [/ QUOTE ]

What planet are you from where games shouldn't be fair? If there's one thing that should be fair, it's games. And no, life isn't fair, but personally, I have a life, and I'm not looking for a virtual one. I play games to have fun, and part of what makes things fun is when they are fair.

So, once every 24 hours, and only 7 people to trade with?

    [/ QUOTE ]
This will probably mean MORE to trade with, as people can do the SF at any time, meaning people who can't make Hami raids will be getting them. Right now, Hami raids need organisation. The Recluse SF will need 8 people at any time.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Except that in the HO raid people are generally trading all at once...it's a relatively self-contained event. Now you'll need to hunt down people that want to trade with you...maybe using the message board, maybe set up a special trade channel...easy enough, maybe, but this is the EXACT reason I choose coh over other MMOGs...if I'm going to have to play the Uber-Raid, Phat-Loot and Trade Game, then I might as well go to a MMOG that's set up to handle it (Like WOW's in game auction system)

I just find it incredibly stupid that this is essentially a raid-less, Lootless (in terms of drops) game for 49 levels and then turns into EQ planes Raid Hell at the end.
  10. So, once every 24 hours, and only 7 people to trade with? And the villains are supposed to compete with the heroes (who have had years to build up the HO's) in PvP?

Wow, I'm glad I really don't play the villain side that much, in terms of PvP characters anyhow. In spite of the fact that in many ways the game is more fun and better designed than the hero side, the glaring inequities are just stunning.

Why even bother to add PvP - and then make massive overhauls to powers because of it - if you're going to have such dramatic imbalances that no one actually wants to participate?

Free updates is a new concept to the MMO genre. I'm thankful for all the new stuff thrown our way.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Free updates are as old as MMOGs. Heck, Asheron's Call has had a free update every single month since it was released back in 2000 or so...and these are updates full of art, quests, items, content, etc.

Actually, for my money CoH is only about middle of the road for free content. in 2 years they've given what...2 new ATs, 2 new powersets and 3 new PVE zones? Sorry, but that really isn't much when put into perspective.

Jeez, what a bunch of whiners. They offer you a FREE add-on for pre-ordering and you all complain about what they give you.

It's FREE!!!! Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The ones who should be complaining are the Gamestop people. Most players are male and even tho some play as girls, they're more likely to want a male helmet. So that's less preorders for Gamestop. If I were them I'd be having a serious chat with my contact at NCsoft right about now.

You should wait for the DVD anyhow, since it will probably have a badge plus exclusive items, just like CoH did.
