  1. I once took a creative writing course where we had to submit five short stories or poems per week. One week, at four pieces and zero enthusiasm, I cast around for inspiration. I took my shampoo bottle, copied the contents, and titled it "Modern Alchemy".

The instructor said it was a great piece. It actually did sound kind of poetic to read, starting with long and complicated chemical names and eventually winding down into things such as witch hazel and some flower oil.

And an early happy birthday to EnnVee!

I'd be happy just to draw upon the movies and comics of the 1950s and 1960s. Giant insects or spiders or crabs/lobsters, mutant animals, etc. Although a pterodactyl GM hanging around the volcano crater in Striga would be flat-out awesome

    Probably bother the Council though...
  3. I'm sure she'll put the full size up on DA and into the CoH DA group later but, in the meantime, I have new Wassy art!

Rose Veldt, AR/Dev blaster and safari enthusist, come to Paragon City to hunt the big game.
  4. More non-human skeletons for NPCs.

I'd like to see guard dogs (or robotic guard dogs if people are going to object to ice-blasting Fido) or great cats or a GM in the form of a giant snake or turtle or something. The only real giant "monster" threatening Paragon City is Lusca. I'd like to see a massive mutated earthworm rising from the ground or an irradiated praying mantis or something unique like that.

  6. She nailed it!

Are you fighting ninjas or is everyone else in black because they're not as important as your character?
  7. I'm wishing things work out for the wife and I and she gets pregnant.

Happy new year all and may all your wishes come true.
  8. I agree with the premise that the game is very different for people without social networks. I played years ago and came back for a couple free weekend type events but never really stuck with it. Or I'd rejoin with a couple friends and they'd stop showing up and I'd drop off.

The last time I rejoined was the free weekend in May 2009. Again, a couple friends rejoined, we messed around for a week or two and they fell off. A week or so after that, I was about to drop off but I realized what the issue was -- I never really teamed and was pretty uch soloing my way through. Further more, I'd get to where I actively avoided teaming because I was afraid I'd suck and people would be exasperated with my team-n00b self, etc.

So I started putting on my LFT flag each time I logged in. I asked around about and found some global channels (on Victory) and tried to get in on task forces and GM hunts, etc. The difference was night and day. I still soloed sometimes but would spend other nights in full teams doing missions or task forces (which weren't nearly as scary as I had thought, previously coming from Everquest with its instruction filled raids) and getting global friend invites, etc. I doubt I would have played into June otherwise and now I'm in an active SG, have in-game friends and all the rest of the "gated community" perks.

I'm not saying "I did it so anyone can!" because I know it's not that easy. I only got into the globals because I post on the forums and would hear about them. I know that forum posters make a small subset of the game's playerbase. I know on some servers, it's not as easy as putting on a LFT tag and waiting for the invites to come in. But I do think the options are available and perhaps something should be done to educate the playerbase. On lower population servers and with instanced missions taking people off the streets, it can sometimes seem like a lonely world.
  9. Concept for me:
Tally-Ho wouldn't work for me as a guy.
Polish Princess actually started as a pair (with Prince Poland) except I didn't enjoy playing the Prince (some flavor of tank.. was very slow to solo especially back around I1 & I2) so he got deleted and the Princess remained.
Rose Veldt is a pun on Roosevelt (as in Theodore) although she's taken life of her own.
Pachamama started because my wife tried to make an Inca with the costume creator and got annoyed (she had never touched CoH prior or since so didn't really know how to 'work' it). One day I tried to do it and came up with Pachamama.

I start with an idea... usually either a name that pops into my head or a costume concept and I build the character around that. I don't worry if they're male or female, just that the gender fits the concept. Just as my females wouldn't work as males, Bad Czech, The Lounge Crooner and Reconquista wouldn't work as women.
  10. Now I need to figure out how to get Tally-Ho over to Virtue. I tried remaking her as "Cheerio" but my heart wasn't in it. She's Tally-Ho, dang it!

So my options are to throw a period in there (Tally Ho. since I can't have two punctuation marks) or to do the I as l trick and name her TaIly-Ho. Curse the people who stole my name well in advance of me wanting it on that server!
  11. A million thanks to Bayani for the Tally-Ho picture and to Daggerpoint & Vrykon for the work they put into it. That's some amazing work right there and, while I never really planned going after a more "photo-realistic" type comic art before, these guys nailed it. So extra thanks for soemthing that I never would have thought to do myself. Happy New Years!

  12. Good luck! Here's a couple of mine who don't have much done (if anything) of them yet. Others in my sign if you feel so inclined. Have fun no matter what.

    Rose Veldt
    Rose Veldt (Heads)

    Pachamama
  13. Happy New Year, Future Man! May your flying car's omni-grav device never break down and your food pills be both delicious and full of rich nutrient paste!

Hahaha... the dental work is paid for at this point. I had to set aside the new computer for now but at least we paid cash on the dental stuff and I won't be paying for it until 2025 or something at 15.99%.

Buying some art here and there won't make any significant impact on when I buy a new system

I don't want folks thinking I'm broke here, I'm just grousing about it because the topic of new computers came up. I'm, thankfully, still employed and comfortable. Just not "buy a new computer with cash on a whim" comfortable.

In absence of that, I'll take the pretty pictures

Funny story: I was originally going to buy a new computer with my Christmas money and cash I had saved up. Then a crown on my front tooth broke at the gum line and took the actual tooth with it. Cost of an implant wiped out my computer fund and then some.

Ok, maybe it wasn't "ha ha" funny. I'm not bitter though!
  16. As long as this thread's been bumped, I apologize to anyone from my team last night. Had a game crash as I was slotting enhancements.
  17. Heh... since I mentioned Defense...

Mutation: Catalyst: Defense Extension -- Sure, that's easy enough.
Magic: Shield of Joule -- Makes sense if you spend a second thinking about it
Natural: Dragon Defense -- Works for me
Technology: Portacio Ind. Synapse Bridge -- Wait... what?? Synapse bridge??
Science: Barium Irradiation -- "Barium"?? Seriously??

Lesson here is don't play Tech or Science origins

Actually, some of the magic/natural ones are less than intuitive... "Power of Grey", "Skip of Joule", "Back Alley Crippling Blow", "Back Alley Abbreviation", etc. Stick with Mutants.

Made worse by the esoteric names the store bought enhancements have. Great for flavor purposes, not so great when trying to figure out what on earth your Defense enhancement is called.

There's various ways to check and all but it can still be an annoyance to check and double check before you lose 70% of the price buying the wrong one and selling it back. I feel your pain

While I appreciate weapon-wonkishness as much as the next guy who spent his formative years playing AD&D, for CoX purposes I'd be delighted with a thrusting/swinging pole style set in which the pole in question could be customized to be various spearheads (with perhaps other polearm blades/spikes attached) or just a plain pole. Something like Bamboo Pole, Wooden Pole, Metal Pole, Primitive Spear, Medieval Spear Thin Point, Medieval Spear Wide Point, etc.

Yes, I realize that there's significant differences between how a staff is used versus a spear versus a military fork versus a partisan. But, for CoX purposes, I don't care. I'm sure you use a massive Viking battleaxe differently than a small hatchet as well but here we are.
  20. Ok, shooting from the hip...

    Fenian:
Making me scrambled eggs in her underwear! Ok, just kidding. Since all of her pictures are showing her all zappy, I'm going to say her doing the "floating book" routine thus signifying her mystical powers without the electrical special effects. Through one of those Celtic knotwork thingies onto the cover of the tome.

Caemgen: I didn't see any pictures of him descending with wings out, all Batman style. He needs one of those. Get on it.

Alpha: You need a good "Alpha in repose" image. Not so much like the one where he's looking beaten down, but a picture of him in full armor and helmet leaning against a wall or something, waiting for the rest of the Patrol to show up. A juxtaposition between his heavy armor and his relaxed stance.
  21. I got my wife a $179 mini-camcorder and a $4.69 Domo doll that was on clearance at Target.

She's spent the last two hours playing with the Domo doll

    Merry Christmas!

    "Wesołych Świąt!" -- Polish Princess

I'd do one in Czech but Bad Czech doesn't wish anyone a Merry Christmas
  23. I have several in the 1800+ day range, mainly on servers I stopped playing on.

If anyone on Virtue's been waiting the last five years for "Neutron Blast" to open up... totally my bad.

So, for Christmas, I'm getting a front tooth.
