So i've been playing CoH/CoV for almost two months know and I love it! It's very entertaining! I have a MAC so i couldn't leave to play Champions Online even if I wanted to!

So i've noticed some things about the game though that bother me:

1. When you're editing your I.D., does anyone else have a problem when you click where you want to edit? The bar like moves over or up or down waaaaaay away from where you want it to be. Also, sometimes i'll type things and it won't show up, or i'll want to delete things and it won't work.

2. I recently made a tank, and i don't know if it's just because I can take more damage with it, but does anyone else hate when your fighting a baddie, and your doing fine until someone else joins you to kill it? Maybe they do it because they want to speed up the process, but it just annoys me!!

3. If you are an RP'er, you'll agree to this next one. Do you hate it when you join a RP team and then it kinda mixes between IC and OOC and then you just forget to put the brackets around your sentence? BLAH!!

4. I also hate when I make the mistake of buying the wrong enhancement have to sell it back. I either bought the wrong level, wrong type, or both. Then i gotta figure out which training enhancement goes with the kind for my Archtype.

So i guess i'm just ranting on hoping i'm not alone with these thoughts and concerns!! Happy Holidays everyone!!

Also, because I have a MAC, does anyone know how to take an In-Game screen shot without the tabs or powers bars in the pic? Like the epic ones people use as profile pics? Thanks!!

Welcome to the forums, Drew Devastation

There's a setting in your options menu that lets you hide or show the UI when you take screenshots.

The editors in the game have always been a bit on the borked side, though I've never had it act that badly. Still, I typically edit any text longer than a sentence in Notepad, then alt-tab to the game and paste it in. The standard Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V hotkeys work in-game.

Don't sweat kill-stealing. For one thing, rewards are disbursed proportionately, so if someone comes in and mops up that last sliver of health on an enemy, you still get almost full credit for the defeat. Some people may not realize you're fighting that enemy, or it might be a new player who's not familiar with the concept of kill-stealing, or it might be someone who genuinely thinks that you're having trouble and is genuinely trying to be nice. It's no biggie, and there are tons more enemies where that one came from.

It's usually pretty obvious from the context what is intended. I'm under the fundamental assumption that you're not really going to go out and look for some Skulls to kill. (Or, for that matter, that your hero doesn't really have to go to the bathroom, but sometimes that line can be a little shady...)

In your enhancement screen, if you hover over a power, it will tell you what type of enhancements can be slotted in that power. And don't sweat that too much, either. Once you get to level 30 or so, unless you really are shooting for buying the highest-end stuff you can get, you'll have plenty of influence to toss around on enhancements.

Since the Mac doesn't have a Print Screen key, you'll probably want to map it to a different key. Something like the following will do nicely (but feel free to choose a different key if desired):

Code:
/bind P "screenshotui 0$$screenshot"
/bind SHIFT+P "screenshotui 1$$screenshot"
Hitting P by itself will save a screenshot without the user interface. Hitting shift with P will save a screenshot with all of the menus, chat bubbles, trays, etc. Once you have mapped the screenshot key(s), then check out the "Mac client" section of the Paragon Wiki's Screenshots article to find out where to get to them.

Hope this helps!

Well TonyV thanks a ton!! I'll try out the code of taking a screenshot and let you know how it goes!! The stuff for the I.D. i don't understand though. Still learning about the technical side of things.
Everything else i pretty much understand. For enhancements though I just meant i hate when i make that mistake. I'm able to understand what enhancements go with what power.
Thanks again for the info!

Oh also, after i take the screen shot, could i use it for my avatar or signature? I'm trying to get more active in the boards. =)

I guess it depends on how seriously one takes being a hero

Yes you could, if you upload it to Photobucket, get the link for the picture and fill it in at your User CP you can use it

Also, welcome to the boards and game! Do stick around, it's great fun

Well, crud, I actually pasted the wrong code in. Use two dollar signs ($) instead of ampersands (&) to separate the commands on the line. I guess I've been too deep in programming the past week or so, where two ampersands indicate the AND operator.

I edited my original post so that the code is correct now.

Below is the toon i'm currently working on.

Your signature image is too large, you need to reduce it down to the forum's acceptable size, which is 600 by 120 pixels.

Like this for example:

Personally, I'd avoid signature pics, but that's largely because I think they're gaudy. If you DO decide to use one, then listen to Ph... I mean, listen to Westley and shrink it down so it doesn't stretch your posts too much.

If you want to go with an Avatar, I would advise you to go not with a full picture, but crop a box out of one that's... How much does the forum take? 100x100? Don't let the software auto-scale it for you. It squashes non-square images in a bad way, and you don't need to force people to load an image larger than it has to be. You can do what a lot of people do - take a screenshot in-game, crop your character's mugshot into a square, then optionally rescale it to whatever is the biggest acceptable, upload it to something like Photobucket and drop a link to it in your User CP.

In which case, just say "Didn't need the help, but thanks anyway." You'll get one of a few reactions to this:
"Sorry"
"Want to team then?"
"lulz u don do enuf dmg" (aka "Please put me on ignore.")

If they continue to "assist," pull out the radio, go in a mission, and wait for them to go away.

I never use brackets. Ever. That's pretty much a virtue-specific thing... but even then. *shrug*

They're color coded. You can also right-click on the enhancement and get info on it. It will tell you what it does.

In the chat bar, type:
/screenshotui 0
Take the screenshot.
/screenshotui 1

Youc an bind them if you want.

Yes, but the endurance reduction and endurance modification are just different shades of blue, and the defense and defense debuff and damage resistance are all shades of purple. In other words, yes, I have made the same mistake. I think we all have at one time or another. For a long while I would only make characters with a mutant origin, because those were the only enhancement names I could figure out and remember. These days I only use invention origin enhancements, so it's not nearly so much of a problem.

But those aren't as effective as Single Origin, let alone dual origin, enhancements. Connivence is a nice thing to have but i want to get the most out of my enhancements.

Looks like you need some information on enhancements.

Training Enhancements ("TOs") enhance by 8.35% at the same level.
Dual Origin Enhancements ("DOs") enhance by 16.66% at the same level.
Single Origin Enhancements ("SOs") enhance by 33.33% at the same level.

Invention Enhancemens ("IOs") have a sliding scale: at level 10 they enhance by 11.7%, at level 50 they enhance by 42.4%. Level 30 IOs enhance more than same level SOs, and they only get better from there.

Set Invention Enhancements ("Set IOs") enhance less percentage points but more than one attribute at a time; so you actually get more enhancement even if the numbers look smaller. For example, level 50 Accuracy/Damage set IOs enhance Accuracy by 26.5% and Damage by 26.5%; it looks smaller than the 42.4% that you get from a straight level 50 Damage enhancement, but if you slot two Accuracy/Damage IOs (from different sets; called Frankenslotting) you get 53% for each aspect, instead of 42.4%.

Take a look at the Relative Enhancement Values table for the whole ugly story.

Made worse by the esoteric names the store bought enhancements have. Great for flavor purposes, not so great when trying to figure out what on earth your Defense enhancement is called.

There's various ways to check and all but it can still be an annoyance to check and double check before you lose 70% of the price buying the wrong one and selling it back. I feel your pain

That's the reason why most of my characters are Natural origin; I just have to remember one set of esoteric names. However, the Wiki is there to help you: Enhancement Names.

Heh... since I mentioned Defense...

Mutation: Catalyst: Defense Extension -- Sure, that's easy enough.
Magic: Shield of Joule -- Makes sense if you spend a second thinking about it
Natural: Dragon Defense -- Works for me
Technology: Portacio Ind. Synapse Bridge -- Wait... what?? Synapse bridge??
Science: Barium Irradiation -- "Barium"?? Seriously??

Lesson here is don't play Tech or Science origins

Actually, some of the magic/natural ones are less than intuitive... "Power of Grey", "Skip of Joule", "Back Alley Crippling Blow", "Back Alley Abbreviation", etc. Stick with Mutants.

I have completely given up on TOs, DOs and SOs now and make use of standard IOs instead. I try to get by without enhancements (best I can) until level 22 because the early IOs (level 10, 15 & 20) are so weak they'd have to be replaced fairly soon anyway. It's a bit expensive for sure, but I've had my higher level characters (that did use TOs, DOs & SOs* because that's all there was at the time) support the newer ones.

*And I sometimes bought the wrong ones too.

I don't require knowledge on them? I believe what I had stated was correct. Thank you though for sharing the information as well as a link to learn more about it.

Nope. You said: "But those aren't as effective as Single Origin, let alone dual origin, enhancements."

IOs are more effective than both SOs and DOs as you level up. SOs are more effective than DOs, as well. So nope, what you stated is not correct at all.

DOs: they enhance 16.66% an attribute, and you can slot them at level 15 (character level 12). If instead, you slot a level 15 IO, you get 19.2%. Better than DOs.

SOs: they enhance 33.33% an attribute, and you can slot them at level 25 (character level 22). Level 25 IOs don't quite match the stregth (at 32%) but they're still viable to slotting once and forgetting about it (because they don't go bad), and they get stronger as you level up. Level 30 IOs = 34.8%; stronger than same-level SOs. Level 35 IOs = 36.7%; even stronger. Level 40 IOs = 38.6%; as strong as +3 SOs. Level 50 IOs = 42.4%, way above SOs.
