Before all this had been announced my wife and I were commenting that we'd loved to have seen a payment option where there was a tier above the 14.99 VIP status that was 19.99 / month and it unlocked all costume and aura items on the market automatically.
Other things like additional character slots, enhancment trays, some power sets etc could still stay extra but it would be worth it to us to pay the extra $5.00 a month just so we knew we had all the costume options available to us. -
I know Brian Brushwood (great Magician, host of Scam School on Revision 3 and host of NSFW and other shows on the TWiT.tv network) used to play. www.shwood.com is his site. He's on all the social media sites.

Ok so here's the thing. Based on past experience we know that NCSoft will never allow anyone to pry CoH from their cold un-dead hands. NetDevil tried it with AutoAssault and they flat out refused, and that game was an actual loss.. so instead of breaking even or making a small profit they held onto the IP no matter what.
Even if NCSoft were willing to sell the IP they'd want so much money no investor in their right mind would pay it.
So where does that leave us? well here's the BEST CASE SCENARIO:
It leaves us with the best damn development team in the MMO Industry. Paragon Studios done? Sure is. How about they form Rogue Studios and start working on a new superhero / modern MMO?
Lord knows the genre needs a new title that isn't aimed at little kids or totally sucks b/c they tried to develop it to please everyone and anyone.
The problem with Posi and crew going independent is Money.. yup you guessed the old might dollar. Some people would say "Go to kickstarter" but guess what.. no kickstarter project has ever raised enough to build an MMO that could replace City of Heroes.
Most MMO's are 50-100 million dollar projects or more. Star Wars the Old Republic.. 200 million. If by some miracle Posi and crew could find a couple of investors and star work on a new game next week.. it would still be a couple of years before we'd even hear about beta sign ups, let alone a launch date.
Sadly there is no solution that will make everyone happy b/c that solution would have been for NCSoft to never have done this in the first place.
For now all we can do is sit, wait and hope that the folks from Paragon Studios have their MoG ready to pop as the servers go offline. -
Matt,
I have to thank you for all you did while I was running w00t Radio and trying to do events in CoH. Your involvement made things always a thousand times more entertaining for everyone.
I still talk about the Cuppathon where we spawned Hamidon in Pocket D on the Test server and even though you'd turned off his ability to attack, you didn't make him invulnerable which lead people to cause a mito spawn and wipe out everyone in Pocket D 8..
Of course probably the funniest part was Manticore having to go in and clean up the mess while we were on doing some other part of the event.
It was you and the entire dev team's attitude towards this community that allowed it to grow into the 'city' it is today and has been since the early days.
I've tried just about every major title on the market and a month ago I came back to CoH full time, my life allowed me to play a game seriously again and I couldn't find a better game to spend my time in. It breaks my heart to see it go before it's time but obviously there are things in life none of us can control.
Thank you for all the amazing times and the constant entertainment all these years. I look forward to being in your next campaign.
/em Salute.

Hey folks I posted a link to the thread in Cuppa's Fb post so I'm sure Cuppa will read these. Unfortunately after leaving nc Cuppa lost access to the account hence why I posted.
-
Oh man I remember that night.. what insanity that was. The original Rikti Invasion end of Beta event... was soo epic.
-
I never added anything physical to the game but I did push hard to make in-game events bigger and more awesome in the early days.
All the folks who did (and still do) work for CoH dedicated Radio Stations did a lot to push the community forward. If it weren't for those "DJ's" out there from all the different stations we may have never seen much in the way of Dev involvement at the 1st Anniversary Party or all the great events that came afterwards. -
Quote:That's what makes this so hard for me Neuronia.. I was getting ready to relaunch my old podcast. I've been back in CoH for a month and had fallen back in love with it again.Holy cow Jester back from the dead.
Big props for running those Arena fights on Test and broadcasting on W00T.
Now I have no clue what I'll do with my time. I may be forced to.. go outside *shudders*. -
I just want to say that I met CuppaJo through these forums, we actually built a good friendship thanks to City of Heroes, good enough that Cuppa was a groomsman at my wedding in 2009.
I've met a lot of great people here and while I've been gone quite some time and just recently returned, no MMO has ever given me the countless hours of fun and a better community experience than City of Heroes.
Today was a shock and a heartbreak. I had never even considered that CoH could be one of the games we'd loose. Hell if Everquest can continue on why couldn't CoH? At least that's what I thought.
All Good Things... -
Hey folks, I'm good friends with CuppaJo and I was asked to repost this from Cuppa's Facebook feed:
Quote:To the heroes
I remember being there at your birth. Crowded in a room full of developers, watching someone push 'the button' and spinning up your world. Watching and waiting as you stumbled, new, tripping over your freshly minted powers, patrolling the streets of the city.
Dancing with you at the PDP, surrounded by others dressed like giant carrots, or martinis for a costume contest. Face-planting after you killed me on the test server at an event. Over and over and over. Deleting your quote pyramids, closing your necro-posts. Over and over and over.
We repelled alien invasions, killed hoards of nazis (what? THEY WERE NAZIS!), fried freakshow, making so many friends along the way. We flew in formation. Called Taxi-bots. Watched fellow heroes get married. We argued over patch notes, played forum games, bought beers for each other at player meet and greets. It was all so much fun.
It's just a game, some say. It wasn't, wait, it isn't just a game to me. You will always be more to me, my heroes. I am a better person for knowing you. -
Hey folks,
Last night was a blast and sorry it took so long for me to get these up but I just didn't get time to finish before bed last night.
I've created a page on the new w00t Radio website (which I haven't really told anyone about yet) with a bunch of screenshots I took last night. The page is setup so anyone who wishes to can add screenshots from the event or that feature Lucas. So feel free to do so.

Hope we don't have to get together for this kind of reason again anytime soon..

Ok how the hell did I never learn this???
-
I'd like to see the return of the old non-spike version of the Spiked Pauldrons. They were in game when CoV launched but have since disappeared.
-
Lucas will be missed on Justice. Those of us from the early days will always remember him.
-
I will be there.

Its more like:
Beard = Positron
No Beard = Antimatter -
Meet and Greet was indeed a fun time! Those AT Buttons are AWESOME, so glad I got the hero set.
Was great meeting everyone and Jillians sure did feel like a dive bar from the Rogue Isles! -
Hey folks,
Some of you know me, some of you don't. 4 years ago I started an online radio station dedicated to the players of City of Heroes and other MMORPG's. During our run we helped organize some of the biggest and most unique in-game events here in City of Heroes.
First there was the 2nd Anniversary Party that we co-hosted with the Babes of War SG which ended up being the same night the Official Party was held and the first time we saw the Devs in-game for an event.
Then there was the Cuppathon, the official farewell party for CuppaJo, one of CoH's first Community Managers. That 12 hour long live event saw myself and Cuppa on air giving out tons of prizes, running lots of events and generally causing mayhem on the test server (anyone remember the arrival of a "Leashed" Hamidon that later resulted in a Mito Spawn in Pocket D 7?)
There were also countless smaller parties for individual SG's, in-game contests, and general hijinxery.
2 years ago during w00t's 2nd Anniversary we switched over to an all podcasting format due to financial and time restraints by myself and others involved with w00t.
I'm happy to say that now, we're back. w00t Radio has launched a brand new website focused on providing the best radio experience we can to the players of City of Heroes and ANY MMORPG.
Several of our old staffers are back to do live shows and we're looking to bring some more on air in the coming months. So I invite you to come check out our new site, new stream, and see what you think.
We can't be everything for everyone, but we're trying to provide the best mix we can of Rock, Alternative, Metal, Comedy, and General Geeky Goodness to entertain you.
You can find us at http://www.w00tradio.net
Listen links, automated request pages for the DJ currently on the air, a DJ schedule, podcast episodes of the Jester's Court and more can be found on our site.
If you have an event in game you'd like to have a w00t DJ attend or want to join our staff of volunteer DJ's, send an e-mail or PM to mindsctyhe@w00tradio.net. Mindscythe is a long time member of these boards and is handling all our new staff recruitment and event planning.
Also join up with the "w00t Radio" global channel to chat with DJ's who are in game as well as other listeners! -
If anyone would like to follow the Dev's tweets without actually using Twitter I've setup a page on the w00t Radio website for it.
I've added:
Positron
CoH OCR
Niviene
Dark Watcher
Avatea
Back Alley Brawler
War Witch
Will add more as I find them. The ONLY posts that show up on this page will be from CoH Devs. I've set this up as a separate account from the normal w00t Radio twitter feed.

Also its not Pretty yet, I'll work on that as I get time. -
For those who get Stan & Lou from the w00t Studios site, those pages are currently offline. I'll be getting them back up and running soon.
We've had a bit of a change of purpose at w00t and launched a brand new site at Http://www.w00tradio.net -
Its now available on the w00t Studio's site. Enjoy folks:

Something is weird with the site. I registered. I got the confirmation email. I can't use the screenname/password I created.
I even tried resetting the password, but the email hasn't come to me yet.

If your the user I think you are, you need to click the activation link in the confirmation e-mail, otherwise your account won't activate. If you still have troubles PM me here on the boards with your username and password and I'll see what I can do. -
