Off topic question.
Further up thread healing uniques were mentioned and "nerf" was associated with them.
Was there any change to healing uniques im not aware of?
Any recent dev comment on this? -
One thing that just struck me.
How "vigilant" am I really if, when people are added to my team, I incrementaly lose my inherent power bonus? -
Ya, id have to make the argument for hasten as well. Id swap out swift at 49 for it.

Quote:Thanks for the clarification. 1 can only hope whips, polearms, etc will soon be availableThe new power set for the ATs is as follows:
Blasters - Dual Pistols
Brutes - Kinetic Melee
Controllers - Electric Control
Corruptors - Dual Pistols
Defenders - Dual Pistols
Dominators - Electric Melee
Masterminds - Demon Summoning
Scrappers - Kinetic Melee
Stalkers - Kinetic Melee
Tankers - Kinetic Melee
Thus, all 10 base ATs will be getting a new power set. -
I remember around the time the survey for which powersets scrappers would most want (we got /WP and DB/), BaBs commenting on how he'd worked up a "polearm" set that had kick *** animations.
Maybe that will be 1 of the new powerset they said each AT was goin to get. -
Quote:You were probably better off gettin booted Madam.Hobo, I know your likely joking. It's just, attitudes exactly like you describe have gotten me booted from teams while playing my TA/A. You know, for the crime of not having a heal, even though before I joined I specifically mentioned a lack of healing and what I did instead.
As "safe" as defenders solo, non are particularly fast.
"Most" mobs have some kinda of mez attack and that generally spells the end of any defender solo'n, especially against +8 spawns.
Traps/ice might be the best option.
Mez protection in FFG and blaster damage in your rain and nuke attacks.
Hopefully the new vigilance will change things around and give offenders the extra lil bit of damage they need to effective solo above a snails pace. -

Quote:While it might not be the most opptimum combination it WOULD be hella fun!
Uh...hmm. I don't agree. No Energy^2 blaster if the scrap needs RttC etc to live. I've had a katana die several times because of massive KB from M30, etc. I need those enemies to live. DA and RttC. "Not all combinations make sense." There are some combos w/i ATs which make no sense too. Energy tanks.
Knockback can be valuable mitagation if you use it right. Running in all willy nilly, ya that scatter might kill a /wp scap against really difficult stuff. But this is 2 buddies playin in a dedicated duo. I wouldnt hesitate to roll a nrg/nrg blast and kat/wp scrap duo with a friend.
And if you read what i originally quoted you'll see it makes perfect sense. -
Quote:welcome back!My friend and I were thinking about returning to CoX after a 3 year break.
Quote:Also, we're not necessarily looking for the strongest duo or the strongest powers in the game. We just want to be able to play through and have fun, without hitting missions that we can't do because our duo or powers are bad.
Pick whatever character you want to play with your scrapper buddy.
Any combination can handle what your looking for to be honest.
Lots has changed in 3 years, Id suggest you read up on the "patch notes" at the login in screen. -
To be honest
All melee sux in PvP in its current implemetation.
Though tanks with their bag of hitpoints, epic holds and decent burst arent as bad as you'd think.
Claws' all lethal damage and lack of build up is what makes it stink in pvp.
If im DEAD SET on pvp'n on a scrap it'd be fire/rgn and only fire/rgn. Maybe a spines/rgn.
Not that kat/wp would be better in pvp, but it would be the easiest to achieve the other criteria the OP specified. AV solo'n, Pylon runs, Solo large spawns, etc etc.
Too bad pve and pvp are soo drastically different in this game. Whats good in 1 generally sux in the other.
If you could decide, "OK, i wanna pvp with this toon" you still have to answer team pvp? arena? and whats good in 1 isnt necessarily good in the other.
If you decide, "OK, i wanna pve with this toon" really almost ANY scrap combo can take on AV/pylon challenges.
What I like most about this game is the relatively ease of level'n.
OP, can you not make 2 toons and play each aspect of the game with those various toons? -
Quote:All /SR has is defense. Resistance scaling that doesnt really work. and a relatively small recharge bonus. I dont see your argument. It would also be ridiculously weak on survivability. The only survivability contributions you've got going on are a self defense/res toggle, a def/res siphon, a mez siphon, and a self heal. Fiery Aura has more survivability contribution than that, and */Regen provides a better structural design for a set that requires skill to perform with.
25% baseline resist to all toggle. Stackable +resist attack. 10% resist per stack. You could build the set to be survivable.
Quote:Even if it was decided that a siphon based survivability set were needed, I can assure you that it wouldn't be modeled after the existing Kinetics set. It would probably have a definite mez toggle, 2 def or res toggles to provide baseline survivability, 1 passive survivability power, 1 QoL power (re: Quickness/Temp Prot/Quick Recovery/etc), and then 4 click powers (likely 1 similar to Dark Regen, 1 similar to Eclipse for either def or res, 1 that's a clone of Repel, and 1 that's similar to Dark Consumption). Of course, the problem with all of this is that you quickly get into a situation where you're either bouncing god modes or you're alternating period of useless and badass.
Quote:If the devs were going to implement an click based survivability set, I would probably make it static benefits similar to what */Regen has. I actually did a write up for a Sonic Defense set that was built around the idea of a decent bit of baseline +res from passives and toggles augmented by +res click powers with varying uptimes and secondary benefits (+dam, +def, +regen, and none, respectively). There isn't really a decent precedent anywhere for the use of a buff/debuff set to provide anything remotely close to a structure for a personal survivability set.
Are you implyin that we shouldnt have gotten those sets or they werent needed? -
2 tanks
3 defender/trollers
3 blast/scrap/kheld
Any powersets and with competent players behind the wheel will be able to take on 99% of gameplay.
I form alot of PuG's, and generally play support characters.
If I can get 3 or 4 "core" players I'll be set on filling the remainder of the team with any other AT.
By "core" I mean if im playin a tank and can find any 2 def/troller combos I can get selective on that 3 def/troller spot. If those first 2 support classes are debuff heavy, Ill use the 3rd support spot with a buff heavy AT.
With this set of "core" I start missions at +2 X8. Depending on the rest of the team composition, +3 and +4 difficulty usually starts at the 2nd or 3rd mission. -
Quote:Give a small resist/defense toggle and an attack that increases resist/def more. Not really that big a deal.So... if I attack an enemy that lacks mez protection I get held all the time? I attack an enemy that lacks DR I have none?
Good luck with that.
Kinetics in general lines up pretty favorable to a melee set.
This is all from memory, bare with me here if powers arent in the right order.
tier 1 siphon power = build up type power
tier 2 transfusion = self heal
tier 3 siphon speed = +recharge buff
tier 4 increase density = self resist/defense toggle
tier 5 Inertial Reduction = free travel power please!
tier 6 speed boost = scrap for another power (mez attack power)
tier 7 repel = ok scrap this for another power (more resist/def attack)
tier 8 tranference = endurance replenisher
tier 9 fulcrum shift = another super build up/damage debuff
Its really not that complicated.
It'd be like no armor set we currently have.
And it'd take SKILL to use. Wow how bout I be challenged in this game besides upping my difficulty settings besides +3 or +4 mobs spawned for a team of 8. -
Quote:No, I mean a kinetic armor set.As Umbral pointed out, we already have it with Energy Aura.
Where i "leach" powers from you to me.
Leach my resist or defense from you. imagine super "active" defense.
leach my mez protection from you. If i dont use my "mez attact" to steal your mez protection I dont have mez protection.
steal endo and health via trans's etc, etc.
Pointing out thematically that energy armor and "kinetics" are the same thing isnt "kinetic armor". -
If you know what your doin your emp defender should be in high demand.
What do I mean by "if you know what your doin"?
Well,
Clear Mind. Its mez protection and a +perception buff. Tanks/scraps dont need this put on them! Unless your fighting GW in the STF or fighting arachnos and players get "blinded".
Use this for the other def/troller/blaster/khelds on your team.
Fortitude. Its a damage/acc/defense buff. Puttin this on the lead tank and no one else is criminal. Up your blasters/scraps offense/defense instead. Of course, using this on the tank to achieve soft-capped defense is great use for the power. But still, Id rather see as a player an emp spreading fortitude on as many damage dealers as possible. And good emps can keep this up on 3-4 people all the time.
Please dont be a prima donna and insist on the "gather for RA" crap sooo many emps do.
So the way I see it, as an emp def/troller, my job is to grant mez protection first to any def/trollers on my team, and keeping fortitude up on as many peeps as possible.
I think of heals as the "buffs" for tanks. Using my RA's as appropriate.
At any lvl of the game, the relevancy of the above playstyle is never in question. -
Im always happy for new sets. Let me get that outta the way.
But it was kinetic ARMOR peeps were clamoring for not kinetic MELEE! -
Quote:My point being id consider both spines and electric abysmal for ST damage.Spines ST is um nothing great Ripper can be used as a ST with solid results impale cast time is a little long but works lunge I did not even slot and Barb swipe you be better of with boxing over Barb swipe as an attack
Spines is all about aoe and it does it well
DM is more ST but a good SM is sweet -
Quote:I thought this was a team game. Any player sayin that a tf/sf was failed because the tank couldnt handle it, again I question your judgement. If someones doing an STF and you volunteer to do it on your IOd Darkie, your damn darkie better be able to handle Recluse, because a Failed STF is a waste of everyones time.
And before ANYONE says that I just dont know what Im doing with the IOs, or that I havent played dark, or whatnot, 2 Level 50 Darkies. Both were IOd before I ripped them apart to play something with better Performance.
Why IO to make myself sustainable when another set can do it more easily and deal more damage?
Id like to see your IO'd "darkie" builds. THAT might explain alot. -
Quote:Until you run the praetorian arc and get eaten alive on any defense toon. For all the money you spent on IOing a Dark, you can take a Shielder and get better performance and damage. End of story.
Or an Invuln or an Ice. And while 99% of the PvE game yes, you can be sufficient with a Single KB IO, most people dont IO their tank to do that short of farming. Theyre doing High Endgame content like the STF or Speed ITFs or LGTFs. Not that the Darky doesnt perform well in the later two, but overall most people likely see that it makes more sense to IO something else and play something else.
And I seriously disagree that speed ITF's are high endgame content. -

Is the question now the optimum build for a /da scrapper? As in which primary offers the best balance between ST and AoE damage?
If so id say katana.
Id think elec is in the same boat as spines for ST damage. Ive never played spines to any serious lvl, soo my judgement might be skeued(?). And dm IS too single target oriented. -
Quote:Really?Earth/Earth is the best Dom combo I've ever seen or played. The visuals, the sounds, the effectiveness, it's all there. And the best thing is your pet doesn't have to look like a turd anymore, unless you want it to, in which case you can make it look even more like a turd. Earth/Earth is just that great.
I trust your opinion Daemondand, Earth/earth will be next.
But gah that means rolling another earth toon and I hate repeating sets.
earth/fire is hella fun also!
But nothing tops the greatness of grav/thorn
