That's weird. It worked fine in past years -- what was changed to break it? Isn't it just the same code as in previous iterations?

::: points to the revised Boomtown map :::
Don't forget the train depot!
I would love a museum interior, as well as more University interiors. In the original Call of Duty, one of my all-time favorite maps was the mansion. That would be great fun in CoH.
I also want apartments and penthouses in lieu of bases for some of my characters. I absolutely despise the "I live in my mom's basement" look of bases, so I avoid them at all costs. I mean, Doom had "windows" back in 1994. Why can't we have windows to at least give the appearance of being in an apartment/penthouse? (The windows are really just monitor screens showing shots of the zones. They don't even have to be live shots, just static ones which change perspective a little as you move around the room.) -

You have won the web, classics division. Here is your golden Baudy.

Quote:Yes, I do. the reason has nothing to do with you, really, but is caused by two factors: I prefer to go at my own pace rather than be pulled along or held back by a group (and with the dogs I own, I often have to be absent unexpectedly for varying amounts of time), the second being the way the game has been set up since the jump: only the mission-holder gets to read the mission text. What good is your awesome story if I can't see 80% of it? In that situation, all I'm doing is beating up mobs I'd otherwise see in the outside game and getting crappy rewards to boot.I write missions for teams to play--people want to solo Architect missions.
So yes, I solo AE arcs. I want to read what you wrote, not just kill stuff mindlessly while flavor dialogue zips past too fast for me to read, nevermind savor. -
I wouldn't want all the buildings swapped out, but a few new ones interspersed would be nice. Especially if they came with new maps. /em hint-hint

Quote:Widescreen epicness is precisely why someone should see a movie like this on the big screen.This. 49% on Rotten Tomatoes("looks great, feels cold") and 51% Metacritic. On the flip side, 83% audience review on RT and 9.0 user score on Metacritic. To me Tron was an ok movie that rode the coat tails of being on the leading edge of effects. There is very little coming from critics that make me think this version will be otherwise. My Netflix queue is around 200. I haven't seen a movie in a theater since Easy A. If you want me dropping coin for a movie, it's going to take The Fighter, or True Grit to do so. I didn't drop even matinee money to see Anne Hathaway run around naked. I don't see the need to do the same just to see Olivia in a super tight suit with pretty effects all around.

Quote:When the market and gold farmers showed up?I'll say the obvious since no one has yet. I actually have fun playing the game. Not counting my spoils at the end of the day. When did CoX suddenly become an "it's all about the loot" game?
I don't think earning a little something towards the Incarnate stuff on a per mission (or heck, even per story arc) basis is over-the-top loot-driven behavior. Just asking for a little sumpin-sumpin for the effort, you know?
The reason my 50s are retired for the most part is because there's nothing much for them to do aside from getting badges. The Incarnate system is the perfect incentive to shake off the mothballs, but if it's a horrendous slog to acquire the shards by playing the game regularly then I'm just going to switch to one of my 100+ alts. Several hundreds of hours with my AR Blaster is enough. Now I want to play my MM and my Dark Scrapper and my Dual Blades Brute and.... -
Quote:One mission of mine which I deleted out of frustration was playing off of the fact the AE system was made by a supervillain. My arc's conceit was that it was Aeon's way to uncover the abilities of heroes under the guise of a game. I got slammed so often for that arc that I just destroyed it out of anger. I replaced it with an unpublished mission comprised solely of my own characters so I can fight alongside my alts. I just figured, "Screw it, I'll play by myself."What kept me away for a long time was what a number of people have mentioned, which is the very existence of the AE buildings in-game. Superheroes playing holographic games of their own missions? Sounds kind of ludicrous, and it wasn't til recently that I thought of ways I could use this to my advantage, using its own in-game story existence as a jumping off point for stories.
I realised that if it's a holographic system, it's still an electronic medium, so villains, heroes, spy groups...they could all utilise it for threats, challenges, covert missions...I did a single-mission arc just this last week with the major NPC mobs from Praetoria and wrote it under the pretext that Longbow wants heroes in Praetoria to scout for them (thus giving people an RP/IC reason to go to a zone that tops out at 20 and has no appreciable mobs but plenty of badges). -
Quote:I totally agree with Nethergoat's addendum.Which is why I'm in favor of the 'like' system of ratings.
Taking it a step further, I'd like to see an Amazon-style system of user reviews appended to the arc, identified by global handle. I'm usually able to get an accurate sense of whether or not I'll like a book by reading what other people enjoyed or didn't enjoy about a title.
Combining these with "Number of Times Completed" versus "Number of Times Abandoned" would help give us a sense of a thread's worthiness. Plus the "can only rate once completed" would be good. Not a huge boost, maybe, but it would be something. -

Quote:This single thing would've made the 2009 Best Hero Arc twice as good as it was. The constant running around trying to find glowies that triggered behind me was tedious. (Of course, eliminating 98% of her clues would've gone the rest of the way toward improving it.)Spawn Placement
We have preset spawn points for a reason, and that is great. I totally understand it. But if I want certain events to happen in a certain order without forcing players to run back and forth across the map, I need to be able to say "I want Boss A in Boss Spawn Point 1, and Boss B in Boss Spawn Point 2". Most of the time "Front", "Back", and "Middle" don't work so well-- The first spawn after entering the mission can often be a "Middle" spawn point.
The last time we asked Dr. Aeon about this, he said something about exploits and cramming spawns into corners, which showed that he misunderstood what we were asking. We need to be able to place a given objective on a specific spawn point placed by the devs. We don't need to place our own spawn points.
They really need to let go of the anti-farm mentality. That's like taking a broom to the beach and trying to sweep out the tide. You're never going to succeed, so just let it go. Some of us have never once farmed an AE mission, while other players do nothing but. Accept it and move on. If something is seriously broken like the "monkeys giving Boss xp" exploit, then fix it. Other than that, chill. -

Does Moon Knight count? He wasn't dead very long, but he was killed, resurrected and driven by Khonshu.

Quote:That's not bad. It's no Spectacular Spider-Man (RIP) or Teen Titans, but it does the job. They also have a Super Catchy Intro theme song.
