Quote:This is wrong.I think you can get hero merits from every time you run them.
Quote:So far as I can tell, the SSAs are broken as of the last patch. If you have a native hero / villain who has never run tips, the game won't recognize you as a hero / villain and will fail to offer you the appropriate a-merit award.
To earn Alignment Merits from the Signature Story Arcs:
1) Either start as hero/villain or change to hero/villain.
2) Run a full set of alignment missions and a morality mission to CONFIRM your current alignment. Even if you were always a hero, you still need to do this once.
3) Each arc gives you ONE FREE RUN that does not count against the timer.
4) Once you hit the timer, you can get ONE Alignment Merit - PER WEEK PER CHARACTER.
So, say you're high level and never ran any of the arcs yet. And say you have already done at least one Morality Mission to confirm your alignment - i.e. doing a Morality Mission the same alignment as your current alignment.
Then, you can run arc #1 and get an A-Merit. You can immediately run arc 2 and get another. You can immediately run arc 3 (released today) and get a third. Then you can run ANY of the arcs and get a 4th. *NOW* you have to wait one week before you can earn another on THAT character. -
Quote:Odd. When the last thread about this was posted (maybe 3 weeks ago), I checked to see if I could still get in there and had no problem. When the discussions came up again recently, I started trying to get back in but was unsuccessful. I'd wind up logging back in inside one of the Portal Corp buildings when logging out at the buried door on Monkey Island.

Quote:It may just be an issue of 'someone' not reading....Anyone else thinking the OP probably filed a ticket on something that's WAI and is just mad they won't change it for him?
Quote:Gave up with support many many moons ago, wrote a ticket asking for a valid answer as to why I was going to lose my Global after 7 years of establishing, still waiting for a reply almost 6 months later, now if that ticket didn't warrant a answer I don't fancy my chances of any other ticket getting a response.
Also I asked them to check into a matter of griefing and still waiting for a response 6 months later.
As for the griefing, for anything that may involve discipline against another player, you should expect NO response or update or status information. If they investigated and found nothing, you get no reply. If they investigated and punished someone, you get no reply. That's policy. -
Except well.... I didn't say it was one, did I? I just said it was a handful or a minority. And, when these threads do get posted, they don't get a bunch of immediate posts in agreement, do they?
We also get different people suggesting merging the servers. <shrug> -
Quote:This is true. However, people also keep bringing up other topics which are almost universally acknowledged as idiotic and deserving of questioning the posters intelligence/parentage/species.Despite all the sarky image meme replies, there is a reason this topic keeps coming up, because people are still finding fault with the current way things are done.
The fact that it keeps being brought up does NOT automatically mean it has merit. All it tells us for sure is that the issue has a handful of crusaders. My impression is that it's a vocal minority that has a problem with it. Personally, I'm fine with the "current way things are being done" regarding this. -
You point at the enemy with your axe, then stand there beating it against your shield.

It's a matter of personal preference. My main character can go up against Rikti drones that have just been bubbled by a Rikti guardian and still beat them like a rented mule. Same goes for Paragon Protectors using Moment of Glory.

Quote:Short answer: Then you're doing it wrong. When comparing bonuses of straight SO's vs. IO set bonuses, I always feel Im losing something by going with the IO sets.
A regular IO at level 35 is worth about 37% enhancement. An IO set piece that affects two attributes applies about 23% enhancement to each. Therefore, if you slot one common accuracy and one common damage at level 35, you get 37% boost to each. If you slot 2 acc/dam set pieces, you get about 46% boost to each. The IO set pieces are inherently better than the common IO's.
Now, does every set out there enhance the power exactly the way you want? No. But there is no rule that you have to slot all 6 pieces if you don't like the results. You can slot 2 pieces from one set and 4 from another, or 3 and 3, etc. I will often slot 5 pieces of Positron's Blast plus a common Recharge since the set doesn't give as much recharge as I want.
On top of that, you get the set bonuses. I have characters with 50-60% global accuracy. You can bet that makes a big difference in their performance. Before Inherent Fitness, I had toons that skipped the pool and had 35% recovery from set bonuses. I had a defender that ran 6 toggles without Stamina.
Summary: Character performance with set IO's will always exceed common IO's if you apply some research. In some cases, you can achieve DRAMATIC improvements at very modest costs. The aforementioned defender cost me 24 million inf. -
As a side note, it's worth mentioning that the 'renewing monthly sub' isn't some kind of trap. You can sign up for a subscription, wait a day or so to confirm it is active, then go back to account management and CANCEL the subscription. Your subscription will remain active for the one month that you paid for (which gets charged to your card immediately). Cancelling your subscription does not remove your game access. It just prevents your card from being automatically charged again in one month.

Yeah, but that doesn't matter. The point is, the devs have a system in place and will decide to employ it when they think it's a good idea. When one random player thinks it's a good idea, that's when we get to post funny GIF's.

Well, my defender wasn't high enough for Positron on Saturday. The Sewer trial left him at level 9. But I got him to 10 and then ran Positron again later in the day so now he's ready to go for the next batch of task forces. Woo hoo!

Quote:You left one out:Indeed, I think I could probably write the entire thread myself.
Lets see, some people will come in and post in support, some will post in opposition (mostly citing the poor impression it creates for a possible returning player).
A few people will come in and make implied insults that anyone in favor of it is unimaginative and listing all of the good names they have recently acquired.
Someone from the old EU servers will come in and request a global name purge so that they can get back their old global name.
Someone will bring up the CharacterName@AccountName system used in a certain other MMO and will get shouted down.
I think that covers it.
There is already a name purge script that the devs have run in the past and may choose to run again. You remember the devs - the people who can datamine and actually know how many names are on inactive accounts and on what level of characters. -
Quote:Those positions are NOT untenable and it WAS fun when we were playing 'back in the day'. Everything you say is based around the premise that it is hard or frustrating or impossible to equip your characters without hitting the market or getting external funding. Your premise is FALSE. All those 'testimonials' that you so casually dismiss prove that you are wrong. If it had actually been a problem to us, we would no longer be here.I have heard dozens of testimonials in this thread about how easy it is to get SOs and DOs at 15-30. Or, that they are completely unnecessary. Both of these positions have merit, yet in the end are untenable in the context of this conversation, since we are discussing marketing, not gameplay. Set it up so the Freemiums can get what they need to enhance at the SO level easily. Then make it blatantly obvious how much better the VIPs have it.
See what I am doing? Freemiums are having fun, and its cool and easy. VIPs are having much more fun. Dont you want to be a VIP?
The average player is not stupid, incompetent or helpless. Tasks like maximizing your income, managing your endurance, etc are part of the game. If everything is easy, it's not fun because it's not challenging. -
Quote:Cite as many as you like. You are still wrong. You plainly stated your description and conditions and I fit them. I know this to be the case.Your position is you are not a hardcore gamer. You state this because at one time you were new to the game? Is that pretty much it?
I'm trying to talk about the experience of lightweight gamers. People who will happily pay 15 a month and play a weekend here and there. (the people the game should be focused on like a laser)
While it is true at one point in time you created your first CoH character and were "new" to the game, you are specifically not the kind of person I was talking about. Your post count is merely one of the examples of this. The other is that you have been a steady customer for 7 years. If i knew more about you I could probably cite 5 other examples of why you are not the target market pretty quickly.
I was not just new to this game; I was new to online and multi-player games and really not terribly interested in them. That changed over time. But, back then, I was EXACTLY the target market you were describing. -
Quote:You do realize this post casts doubt on your ability to read, right? You do realize you have 16.907 posts on the community boards of the game website, right?
I said I was comparing myself as a new player to current new players. This was my first online game, my first MMO, etc. -

Quote:Well, for my shield/axe, my thinking was to go for the regen from Destiny.Seems Ion Judgement is the one everyone takes, and the -res/DoT for Interface. Which Destiny would be best on a Shielder, and then Lore pets... cosmetic, or are the Munchkin options I should persue?
For the Lore pets, since I'm doing lethal damage, I'd want something different for when I go up against something with high lethal resist - the Seer pets maybe. My badger took the Seer pets specifically for beating down Marauder without the pacification grenades.
That's where I went, mainly for the defense. -
Quote:Actually, I think it's disempowering to automatically start giving new players funds. Give them some time in the game, then ASK if they are having money problems. My last thought is to remember this, if you invite someone to give City of... a try make sure you e-mail them some cash so that at least one problem is resolved. Or, i guess, talk them into turning off experience for a few days while they grind some farms/story arcs in the twenties.
On the other hand, some people will be hesitant to ask for money, even if you are offering. I usually get to it in a roundabout manner, asking what drops they've gotten, how much inf they have etc. If they comment that they have a particular goal and are about half-way there, now you know how much they can use. And they have had the opportunity to learn that aspect of the game, how to gain inf, etc before someone starts throwing money at them. -
Quote:WRONG!For those of you who are trying to compare your experience rationally to the experience of people we are trying to market to in today's game market, please take a moment to consider carefully. You are hardcore gamers. By definition.
I am comparing my experience AS A NEW PLAYER to the experience of new players. I was NOT a hardcore gamer. This is the first online game I ever played. The only games I had on my computer previously were mah jongg, the Myst series and whatever came built into Windows.
If you haven't been playing since before the market existed, then my take on this situation is a hell of a lot more valid than yours. -
In my experience, this is not correct.
Quote:i thought i had to run a bank for her on a toon i recently moved to heroside to run her arc, all i did was open the "find contact" thing and she was in there and just let me tp to her and start her arc without touching any other hero mishs -
True. I think people fixate on the A-Merit and think of it as *THE* reward. To be fair, though, the rest of the rewards suck, aside from the 4x merits.
-
We're not allowed to say; you have to stumble across it during random exploration.
-
And so, instead of asking, "Was something changed?" or "Am I remembering this wrong?", he asks WHEN, not IF, it was nerfed.
<sigh>
