I had an Amiga 1000. I added an external expansion box with 2MB of RAM so I could load the operating system onto a ramdrive. That really made the system fly. I was on several local BBSes and was one of the first people there to have a 2400 baud modem. Woo hoo!

I live in Queens. I'd show up if it looked like there would be anyone I know......

Quote:But 100 people on 10 servers use exactly as much bandwidth as the same 100 people on 5 servers. You're only reducing the cost of the actual hardware, which is TRIVIAL.First, having/maintaining a server costs money. It consumes electricity, it needs hardware, it needs room, etc. Currently we have 16 servers. If we reduce the number of servers to 8, we would ideally be reducing the cost of running these by half.
And, of course, both hardware and bandwidth costs are insignificant compared to the costs of a game studio with 80 employees. -

Quote:Well... pretty much, yes. I think they looked at the numbers and made a decision about the direction they wanted to take their company and CoH didn't fit with the plan. CoH is too small for any decision about the game to have been "essential" to the company's well-being.Do you honestly think that NCsoft is just a heartless collective of accountants, managers, HR people, and even a CEO that didn't agonize over this decision, who, for whatever reason, thinks that cutting Paragon Studios was essential to the company's well being, maybe even survival?
Sometimes the parent company of the company where I work makes decisions about our company that I don't agree with. It doesn't mean they're stupid, or evil, or incompetent. It just means that the guys in the U.K. running a business that spans 3 continents have a different perspective and different goals from one small division in the U.S. -
Quote:LOL. Seriously? You act as if you're carrying out some important task. Really, you're just being a voice of doom and gloom. We've heard stuff like that all our lives, in a variety of contexts. We've heard it on these forums for years and years.I didn't want to have to post something like this here because the wound is still pretty fresh for some, but here goes...
We choose to ignore you. Have a nice day. -

Absolute and utter nonsense. We're not talking about expectations, but about hope. Hope is never false.

Quote:Not only am I holding on to my stuff, in the niches I was working, I had tiered bids going down to prices we haven't seen in years. Not thinking about it, I left them up. Almost all have been filled as people started dumping stuff.I'm going to keep all my stuff and make a killing when NC changes their mind and the game stays.
If the game does live on, I've got a serious windfall. (crosses fingers) -
Quote:No, that is not in any way valid.Pathetic attempt at an analogy.
Here's a better one: Let's say you love House. So you buy all the season's of House on DVD. Then Fox not only cancels House, but they remote activate software that erases all your DVDs so you can never watch House again.
That is what NCSoft is effectively doing.
"Pathetic attempt at an analogy." right back at you.
Quote:I'm not assuming anything . I am taking issue with the whole concept of "licensing" media.
Get the law changed if you don't like it. The purchase of the game and your subscription fees for time in the past are over and done with. NCSoft has US law backing them up on this. The only area in which you deserve a refund are in relation to funds paid for services NOT YET rendered (i.e. if you paid for a subscription that extends past Nov 30, for example). -
Well, we had one more TF at the high levels - Tin Mage. However, with the apparent shutdown of the game in the foreseeable future, I didn't want to run something that's 50's-only and VIP-only.
Therefore, going back to the beginning and starting up again with the Positron TF!
Saturday, Sept 8 at 1PM EDT
'Rule of Three' and 'Dam Hero' (AKA Positron TF parts 1 and 2)
Level 10+ for part 1 and level 11+ for part 2.
Requires 3 to start.
Contact is in Steel Canyon.
1. Ironblade - Fire Forest (nature/fire defender)
2. Mystery Inc

That's the only badge my badge-hunter is missing. However, I have work on Wednesday (I work Mon - Fri).

Maybe. But someone pointed out that it's much easier to sell IP (Intellectual Property) than an entire company. Someone interested in buying the game would probably not want to acquire a company with 80 personnel since they would presumably already have staff of their own.

Ironblade has the badges but I should be online. My fire/thermal corr is T3 or better across the board. Same for two of my tanks and two defenders.

Yeah, because it uses.... 'pulse dialing' vs tone dialing. I actually remember the phone company trying to convince us to pay to upgrade our phone lines to tone dialing. I told my mother absolutely do not pay a cent for it. They'll upgrade everyone to tone dialing (for free) soon enough because it's better for THEM.

Quote:hmm.... The consensus on Infinity seems to be that you want a ton of corrs on the trial. He gets really hard to kill when his hit points get low and that's exactly when the corrs start scourging for extra damage. Of course, we could be wrong. You can't really tell how much one individual is contributing when you've got 24 people beating on Cole. And if you're going Sonic Blast/ Kinetics for a pairing, then go for a Kinetics/Sonic Defender, for the stronger -resist attached to the defender's blasts.
I wonder if we could put together a 'roadshow' to travel from server to server to get the Really Hard Way badge for people. Getting a new corr to 50 would be easy enough but that's a lot of iTrials to get tier 3 across the board. I certainly have enough transfers, though. I think I've used two and I bought some when they were 90% off, so I think I have 16 left.
Edit: If this idea gets any traction, it would probably work best to transfer to a common server to start grinding iTrials like idiots. I mean, if I can get the badge for 50 WST assists in less than 2 weeks, I can surely grind a few dozen iTrials. -
Well, that was painless. I copied the entire first post and pasted it into Notepad, scrolled down a few screens and started entering codes.
(I figured it would be hard to keep my place unless I could delete each code that failed.)
First code tried: already used.
Second code tried: Profit!
