  1. and here I thought using my main to collect 3D coordinates in Kings Row to use in a mapping and surveying lab was cool.

    Impressive sir.

    So Firefly...

The only thing I fgeel I can add to this. (Yes I'm, sure that many of you have seen this, but in case someone hasn't)

Oh, and I have it on good authority that Mikey took out the discs before she dropped the cases, in case you were worried.
  3. heh

That deck needs to be shoveled buddy.

    Sorry, was channeling my father.
  4. Ahhh, see this is why I asked here.

You both provided a much more comprehensive explanation then what I was getting from the articles i was reading.

I wasn't anything I'm worried about, since I can't remember the last movie I watched at home, just curious as to why they were doing it.

    Thanks again

  6. We hit -36 last week, though this week has been pretty balmy in comparison. I'm feelin' a little jipped about how much snow we got versus what was forecasted, but then I grew up in Buffalo, and then lived in Syracuse for awhile.
  7. Now, to be straight up, I don't pirate things, well to be totally honest, I don't anymore.

But, I've been reading some things about the new chip from Intel (and yes I know it's been pulled) but is the anti-piracy on all of the Sandy bridge line? I'm assuming it is but hope I'm wrong. This seems sort of like putting governors on all cars so they can't go over the speed limit, not necessarily wrong, but a little intrusive.

Also, is AMD looking to do anything similar?

Woops, meant to provide a link

  8. Sometimes (and very infrequently) when I zone, the number keys activating my powers in Tray 1 (bottom tray), begin activating my powers in Tray 2 (second tray up from bottom).

The fix is relatively easy, I switch Tray 2 of powers to be the bottom tray, and Tray 1 to be above the bottom one. All keys work normally at this point until I zone again, then I have to switch back. It usually doesn't happen again in the same play session.

This has been going on for a few years, but it's intermittent, and not that big a deal so I haven't worked hard at tracking it down or replicating it.

Things I have checked or noticed:
    It happens on different computers
It happens with different keyboards and mice
    It happens with different OS's
It's only the lowest two (first 2?) trays (well frankly I click on anything not in those trays)
Keys, both number and Alt+number work fine once I switch trays
No one I've mention this to in game has had the issue.

    Anyone seen this before?

See, I don't get how the first aired episode didn't grab people (this is just my opinion, I realize everyone has different tastes), space cowboys with a train robbery, to me that's just cool. Than considering how they dealt with Crow at the end, I was hooked.

  10. Well that's annoying.

Checked voltages from the PSU/mobo connector and everything was fine, pulled a stick of RAM, and I heard a Bios beep when booted. Set the RAM I pulled out, and a BIOS beep again. So no changes and I'm up and running. Only thing I can think is that one of the RAM sticks wasn't set well.

    Thanks for the help guys.

Though I will admit, more often than not I end up adding the person as a friend just to see their name get Generic'd, silently laugh to myself, then go about my business.

Gotta keep things confidential, ya' know?
It's not always a bad experience, warning them about being genericed. Was on a team once, where a guy had made an Green Lantern character. He was a new player, and several of us on the team warned him he was likely to get genericed at some point. He actually asked us how to go about reporting himself and what was likely to happen. Which then broadened into teaching about the game, but I'm sure this experience was an exception.

I report copyright infringement because I've had presentations I put together used incorrectly by others, which made me realize, that it annoyed me someone was using my ideas without asking me. Can't really go around using someone else's idea for a character after that.
  12. Yeah, I didn't think to test the PSU, as that's not where i usually skimp, I just assumed it was fine when the things spun up. That and the case on the non working comp is a real hassle to work on. I might have a PSU on a Linux system I could use to test (we moved recently, not sure what is in storage and whatnot).

Installed new case fans a few months ago and cleaned off the vanes and fans of the CPU heatsink then. This case sits on the shelf at eye level, so it's not picking up a lot.
  13. CPU would start to post wouldn't it?
  14. Turned on my computer the other day and got nothing on the screen. Fans spun up and LED's lit, but screen remained totally blank, and no Bios beeps. Now the other day the computer was working, and I had not made any changes on it that can think of.

I've checked and the screen is fine, works on another computer,
swapped the vid card from the non working computer to another working one and got a picture with that vid card.
Put the vid card from a working comp in the non working one and still no picture.
Tried different PCI express slots on the non working computer and still a blank screen.

which makes me think this is a mobo issue.

    Anything else I should check?

too many dang years of running a printing press
  16. So, this is a somewhat strange request, but I'm looking at getting a computer monitor for my inlaws to replace their old CRT, since I don't know much about my options for monitors, thought I'd ask here.

The space they set their computer in limits the monitor to a max of 24" and probably should be 22". They are in their 70's, and no surprise, have trouble seeing fine type on the screen. No idea whether they have a DVI output on the computer, but it's no big deal to put an adapter on it, I believe they are using a 3-4 year old Emachine from Best Buy.

I'd appreciate any advice people can provide.

for these uber vets, i have 3 question! what toons have you been playing for all this time? have you played one from when you started till now? whats your favourite build?

For a long time I had a serious case of altitis, took me over 2 years to get my first 50, a D4. I still play the D4 though I recently just deleted one of my 50's to roll him with a powerset that didn't exist when he was created. I've played one of every Blueside AT until 50. Except scrappers, just can't seem to get one higher that 35 it seems.

My favorite build right now, is my Earth/FF. I tend to get beat on, and drop more often than others on the team, but I've been the only support AT on a few TF's and have never failed one. As someone else phrased it, it's the closest I feel to cheating.

Thanks for the pointers folks, and keep em coming.

To point this at least a little closer to the OP, anyone ever have any luck convincing someone they need to do this when they are not prone to. I've mentioned this many times to people who are having issues, or have suffered data loss, and can count on one finger those that have started to back stuff up. Went so far as to get my mother a "1 touch" external drive for backups a year ago, and to the best of my knowledge the only backup was the one I did when I installed it.

And as far as software goes, I found a nifty little tool a couple of years ago for XP called Startup Monitor. Resides in memory after its installed with a minimal footprint and throws up a warning anytime something tries to edit the registry, asking if you want to allow it. No idea if it's available for Vista or Win 7 though.

    D4 Help!

Out of curiosity, anyone team their Dark/Dark Def with a Fire Scrapper that has Burn? I remember teaming mine with a Fire Tank one time, and the damage output was huge, once I convinced him to let me lead off. With a scrapper it should be amazing

Fearsome Stare -> Tentacles -> Tarpatch, then he lept in and hit his buffs then Burn. Minions and Lieuts just melted and the rest of the team unloaded on the bosses or stragglers.

Oh and as for the D3/D4 thing, not that it really matters, but Dark/Dark defenders were referred to as D3's before there were ancillary powers.
  20. Up until last night, I had been a big fan of Win & RC. However, last night as I was dualboxing the Positron TF, my computer locked up. Locked up in a way I've never seen before. Game image was frozen on the screen and nothing moved, and I also couldn't get to desktop or move the cursor. Rebooted no beeps at all and nothing posts to the screen.....sigh*

Walked away for a bit, came back and tried to boot again. Now I've got a succession of long beeps and my code on the mobo is telling me I have a ram issue.

Hmm, ya'll didn't need to know all that I guess, I'm still frustrated though.

Anyways, got it started again by locating the bad stick but now I have the "NTLDR not found" problem. Spent a fair amount of time researching and trying different fixes and got nothing. Bit the bullet reformatted to reinstall RC and it simply won't install, keeps telling me It can't find the system disk to install to.

OK, I know I'm doing something wrong with the installation, but as I need the computer, I went and reinstalled XP to get it up and running.

    BS/DA set advice

Thanks for the advice all, this was just the sort of thing I was looking for.

    BS/DA set advice

Let me start by saying I'm not really a melee guy. Lots of controllers and defenders and the occasional blaster, but have never been able to stick with a scrapper long until now.

My BS/DA scrapper has hit 32, and I'm looking for some advice concerning endurance management. I've got lvl 30 IO's endred in each attack and all the toggles, and 2 in Dark Regen if I remember correctly. I don't normally run with Death Shroud on unless I've got a competent tank on the team, as I find Cloak of Fear to be awesome mitigation. I'm still having end issues though. Not terrible, and managing it has become a little game unto itself, but thought maybe the scrapper gods could help make it a little less of an uphill battle.

I know there are sets that give recovery bonuses and such, but I'm cheap, both in life and the game apparently, and I hate crafting stuff that will be replaced later. Are there any sets I could slot now, that I would keep through lvl 50 to help with endurance management? Guess I'm looking at any of the level 10-30 sets, that might be applicable even at the higher levels.

So, anything like that out there? Appreciate any advice ya'll can give.
  23. Any chance that you've been deleting things, but they are still in the recycle bin?

Not sure if this is true on Vista but in XP, anything in the recycle bin still occupied disk space as it wasn't really deleted. Once it was emptied the disk space was emptied.

I worked at 4 different print shops, and none of them would have had a problem with outputting a naughty piece. Heck one of the places even printed a local magazine aimed at married couples with hmmm, alternative lifestyles let's say. We were asked not to spread that information around town though, and one of the pressmen refused to print it.

My guess, is that if you went to the two older guys you normally do, they'd output 2.....
  25. We've got a guy in our SG who uses CoH as a reward for his kids. If one of his 7 kids has done particularly well at something, they get to team with Dad that night. Occasionally, some of us from the SG get to team with them too. We have to watch our language, but it's more than a fair trade to team with someone who is obviously just having a ball playing and being teamed with adults.
