Roddenberry never really covered how the original crew met in the first place - what was there to "ruin" by the time Abrams got a hold of it?
That's a great point. While I did enjoy the reboot, a true prequel would have been preferable. As you pointed out above, new stories could have been told without messing with continuity.

I've loved Nimoy as Spock for decades, but honestly they could have had a very effective reboot without any time travel shenanigans at all. As a long time Star Trek fan I could have easily accepted a reboot without ANY of the original cast making an appearance.
As a big Star Trek fan, I felt the alternate time line approach was a good way to handle the reboot, and still respect the 40+ year history of the franchise. However, my brother who introduced me to Star Trek, felt the exact opposite. He felt like they just invalidated everything that had happened in Star Trek's history. All in how you look at it, I suppose.

I am glad to see they won't be using the Borg, but I am still undecided on whether or not I want to see this new timeline take on Khan's story. Could be interesting, but part of me wants to see an original story. What do you guys think?

  6. Had a great time last night! Glasir finally got his T3 Cimerorans, so that was pretty sweet. I am, however, calling shenanigans on Zwillinger's purple drop. A little too convenient for my liking.

Thanks so much for putting this together Yydr, and thanks to Zwillinger for taking time out of your life to hang out with us. This is why I love CoH so much.

    Trial Rewards

I'm not sure that this relates directly to the OP, but it is in the same area. Has there been any mention of balancing rewards based on the difficulty of the trial? BAF is considerably easier and shorter than Lambda which is considerably easier than Keyes, but the reward for all three are roughly the same. Hence the reason most people just farm the BAF again and again.

Does anyone else see a problem with this? I'm not trying to start an argument but, it seems silly that my money will not go as far as it used to for the same items.

Yeah, it's almost like they are doing this to try to make more money or something. There was never any doubt in my mind that being a completist is going to cost more under the new model. That's kind of the idea, I think. Attract new players, and make more money from the current ones. I think it goes above the call of duty for them to let us know it will be cheaper to buy it now. I appreciate the confirmation as it enables me to make a decision on when and how I want to spend my money. Thanks Posi.

Also, under the old model, you didn't get a monthly stipend to spend on booster packs, so there is that.
  9. I like!! As a huge Superman fan, I am way pumped for this movie. From what I've seen and read so far, it is shaping up to be a vast improvement over previous big screen incarnations of The Man of Tomorrow. I am of the opinion that Chris Nolan has the Touch of Midas and can do no wrong.

Indeed, I do have decimation in gloom. Thought I changed that before I posted the build. My mistake.

Last night I tinkered with it a bit and took the two slows out of snow storm as suggested. I moved those two slots to tornado and frakenslotted it for damage, recharge, and end reduction.

I would rework your slots to get as close to the ED cap on recharge as you can to get the most leverage out of FR.
I suppose I felt that with the amount of global recharge I have, pushing rech on FR to ED cap wasn't as important. Think I should reconsider that?

    Quote:
I would disagree with both of those proc placements. With Just Freezing Rain and Snow Storm you will have enemies below the recharge floor so I would not waste a slot on the -recharge proc. (The numbers in my guides are for Defenders, but Corruptor numbers are similar (100-85% effective generally depending on the power). With FR and SS on a corruptor you're at 90% -recharge and the cap is -75%. That means even against +2's your still close to flooring their recharge.

In terms of Hurricane, whether the forcefeedback proc is worthwhile is highly dependent on playstyle. If you tend to herd and pin a LOT with hurricane, it might be worthwhile, but for most people it isn't (details are in the guide).
Yeah, I agree with you on these, and didn't bother with either of those procs. The force feedback proc in hurricane sounds good in theory, but the way I use hurricane, I just don't think it is worth using a slot.

    Quote:
    Other Thoughts:

Depending on your playstyle, I would take slots from Snow Storm (Again, FR plus SS will floor run speed on even level enemies) and stick them in Tornado, but that's a playstyle choice, personally I love Tornado (not all the time, but against AVs, it's excellent).
Good call. I play a lot solo and throw tornado out as much as possible for maximum chaos.

    Quote:
Also did I miss a 6.25% recharge bonus, because I'm only counting 4 which makes me wonder, why the devastation in Gloom?
Three sets of Decimation, one set of Stupefy, and one set of Positron's Blast.

Thanks for all the tips, I'm still tweaking the build, and will try to post the final draft before my respec at 50. As the build suggests, I'm not really concerned with getting a ton of defense. I can carry a tray full of purples to cover me on that front.

That's about what I figured. So it looks like I'll be playing on some of my neglected lowbies until I go back to VIP. Thanks for the info.
  13. I've done some poking around the forums in search of an answer to this question and have only seen speculation, but I was curious to see if we have anything official. Will subscribers who go Premium at Freedom launch have any access to the incarnate system? Obviously it seems any new Incarnate stuff will have to be purchased, but what about the incarnate powers I have already earned? Will I be able to use them? Will I still be able to run BAF, LAM, and Keyes?

I'm going back to school to finish my degree so my game time will be reduced below the point that justifies a monthly subscription, but thanks to Freedom, I can continue playing a few of my toons. I just want to know what kind of incarnate access, if any, my 50s will have before I pick which toons I want to continue playing.
  14. I will be there on my WP tank Glasir's Vengeance. My global is @Guardian Irish-Fury.

Community. The CoH Community is outstanding. Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and warm are a few of the words I regularly use when describing our Community to people who are new to the game. Rarely can you point to the Community of an MMO as a selling point, however in the case of CoH, it really is.

Sometimes, when I'm on my personal account, I forget that the folks I chat with on a daily basis here on the forums don't know who I am in global channels. The people you play with in CoH put you that much at ease .
I would like to echo this sentiment. I had always been intrigued by MMOs, but as a less than stellar gamer, I felt a bit intimidated by the notion of playing with more experienced and no doubt, more skilled folks from around the world. When I decided to give MMO gaming a shot, I did a lot of research trying to decide which game I wanted to try. While being a comic fan put CoH high on my list, learning that it was known for it's friendly community of players is what ultimately made me decide on CoH as my first, and thus far my only, MMO, and let me say, the community has more than lived up to it's reputation.

So that be 4 dark watcher's for the 5% plus the proc.
Also life drain you have no acc in it... Me personally I would skip Thunder Clap (it a throwaway anyways)
pick up torrent and slot with kin crash set get 7.5% rech from full set and more pts of kb so you can move somethings around. Also in steamy mist the slotted can be fixed.. Really if you not building for any def the res/def is somewhat of a waste.
Now if you want thunder clap get Oppressive gloom the double stun is wonderful for bosses
Looking back at it now, there are a couple places I used more slots than needed to get defense bonuses that are doing very little good. I picked up thunder clap to go with dark pit for the double stun, which as you mentioned is good for bosses.

I will move the numi proc to health, as you suggested. That is definitely something I overlooked. I'll use the free slot to put some accuracy in life drain.

    Dark/Storm Build

Thanks for the tip, I can do that pretty easily.

I used Silas's storm summoning guide as a.....guide while working on the build, but I just have a feeling I'm missing something important. This is the first storm build I've made.

My stormie is sitting at level 40 and after DXP weekend, will hopefully be 50 so I've put together a build for him. It seems okay, but I am not 100% confident. Care to tear it apart for me?

  19. I do not have an invuln at the higher levels, but I will say I tested my Axe/WP tanker build by aggroing 10 Devouring Earth GMs in PI and took my hands off the keyboard. After 30 minutes, my health never dropped below 80%. That's tough enough for me.

Awesome! I have only seen a small handful of this combo, which seems strange because it is so effin' good.
  21. If you realy want some hair raising fun, try out an archery/fire blaster. You get some great PBAOE attacks from your secondary that put you right in the middle of the fight with little to no protection. Mine is my favorite toon to play when I need a change of pace. The aoe capability is incredible, especially in the higher levels. Once you get rain of arrows, set your diff to x8 and don't look back.
  22. I haven't seen the actual numbers, but just going from my experience I would say DP is middle of the pack when it comes to damage output. When I play my DP/Kin (often solo) I certainly don't feel underpowered.

Edit: The only change I would like to see for dual pistols is having some alternate animations. The "gun-fu" look is cool, but doesn't exactly work for my cowboy-themed character.
  23. Dual pistols is "underperforming"? The 4 person all DP Barracuda SF I was on a few weeks back indicates otherwise.
  24. I am not a big fan of PvP, but this sounds awesome! Hope I can make it.
