  1. Well, I think that works great then. The only issue is that you want DP instead of energy, and as a proud owner of both, I MUCH prefer energy. That isn't to say DP is bad, it isn't. But energy just has a super powerful feel to it and when you get to level 32 and see how awesome Nova is, you'll never go back.
  2. Another option is to pick a gloves costume option that look like arm cannons for you energy blast and ignore the fact that you selected mutant.

Or, maybe your mutation is only intellectual and has given you the intelligence to create the technology for your energy blasting robo-arms. I seem to remember a character from X-Men whose mutant ability enabled him to create any weapon he could imagine....Forge I think was his name (it's been many years, so I could be way off base with that reference). Perhaps your energy blaster has something like that going on.

The bottom line is, there are ways to write your background to include mutant abilities and technology.
  3. Unfotunately your only option would be to remake the character with the desired origin and powerset.
  4. Dual Pistols night is upon us again! The next Freedom Phalanx task force in line is Manticore. However, since a few of us are not in level range, and since it will be the WST next week with increased rewards, we are going to take a detour from the Phalanx this week. Tonight, Thursday March 24th, we will be meeting in Striga Isle at 7:00 PM central time to run The Moonfire Task Force (lvl 23-28).
  5. Maybe I'm missing something with these new trials, but I never saw them as a tactical maneuver intended to criple Cole's regime. To me, this is more of a psychlogical attack that if completed successfully, shows that Cole and The Praerorian Guard are vulnerable and can be defeated, which will undermine his absolute authority over the people of Praetoria. If the people see that Cole's regime can't even protect it's minor targets, they might start to question his ability to protect them, and that leads them to questioning whether sacrificing their freedoms for that protection is worth it.

If the Primals can expose Cole for what he is, the people of Praetoria will welcome us as liberators when we finally do make that big tactical attack, rather than fearing us as invaders.
  6. Resitance: Taco sauce pegged the pirate, ya dig?
  7. Throw two recharge IOs in there, set it to auto, and pretend it's a toggle. Problem solved.
  8. I'll give another vote for a /willpower scrapper. It is a low maintainence secondary with a little bit of everythig (defense, resist, and regen). For a primary, fire melee is fantastic and you can't go wrong there. I've never played dark melee, but have heard it is pretty awesome. Electric melee is great for aoe, but hurts for single target damage, and feels like it matures late.

/shield is also a lot of fun, and also low mantainence. It's pretty easy to softcap positional defense and gives you a tasty aoe attack at level 35. I recommend broadsword or fire as a primary to pair with shield. Broadsword because a sword/shield scrapper just looks totally awesome and lends itself easily to a lot of cool concepts, and fire for all of the aforementioned reasons. Electric melee/shield defense is an aoe monster, but is once a gain a late bloomer and a little short on single target damage. My main is an elec/shield brute and he solos +4x8 with ease.
  9. Aweosme, question answered, thank you all very much. Now I have a question regarding resistance. How do resistance percentages translate to damage taken or avoided? If an incoming attack, which does 100 points of smashing damage hits me, and I have 70% smashing resitance, will I only take 30 points of damage, or am I over simplifying it?
  10. I just finished a build for my Willpower tank that has me softcapped to S/L/E/N/F/C but is somewhat lacking in positional defense, which led me to the question: Which is better to pursure the soft cap on, positional or typed defense?
  11. A somewhat low turnout (most likely due to the ever so popular ITF being the WST) actually resulted in a great DP night. Cobalt, BraveStarr, and Vigil Ante Up were among the regulars to make it out. We picked up three other Dualies using global channels and broadcast and had a very sucessful run of the Citadel Task Force. I finally got hail of bullets and am now chomping at the bit for fulcrum shift to pair with it.

Next week we take a break from the Freedom Phalanx to run the Moonfire Task Force (level 23-28) in Striga Isle.
  12. For me, there is no better way to unwind after a long stressful day than logging on my lvl 50 nrg blaster and launching level 1 Hellions from Atlas Plaza, halfway to Steel Canyon.

I'll use this quote as a jumping off point for my somewhat unorthadox solo suggestion. My first level 50 was played solo quite a bit and he was an energy/energy blaster. The knockback in all of your blasts provides very good damage mitigation from the early levels all the way to 50. With the available melee attacks in your secondary you could softcap S/L def if you wanted to spend the money on kin combats. The ride from 20-32 can be a bit bumpy, but if you are up to a challenge I would strongly recommend this combo. It gets considerably easier at 32 because nova is beast and as long as you keep a good supply of blues and pick up conserve power from your secondary, the end crash is a non issue.

You indicate access to mids. Play around with an energy/energy build and see what you think.

Also, with access to dual builds you can play around with a blapper build, which is a bit challeging, but the heart pounding satisfaction of taking your squishy head first into a mob and coming out alive is incomparable.

In addition to all this...there is no feeling like taking your level 50 energy blaster and knocking a level 1 hellion from Atlas Plaza half way to Steel Canyon.

Edit: There are people in the game who prefer not to team with energy blasters because of the KB, but a well played energy blaster controlled by someone who understands positioning can be a HUGE help to a team.
  14. I run the blue side demon map on 0x8 with no bosses regularly for shards and purples and have very good results, but as others have said, the best farm map for you will vary depending on your build.
  15. Oh boy, do I. My first 50 is an energy/energy blaster and he is all kinds of crazy fun. If you start something on Freedom, I'm game.

Good to know. Byebye LotG global recharges and Oblits. Thanks for the info. You saved me a bundle of inf.

Mine is an unverified assumption as well. I only assumed the global bonuses would apply because they apply to other unenhancable powers, specifically, Domination. I could be wrong.
  18. Some guys in my SG completed a three-PB ITF, so it can be done. Best of luck.
  19. Tonight, Thursday March 17th we will be running The Citadel Task force in Talos Island at 7:00 PM central time. See you there!

The defense slotting in Combat Jumping is dwarfed by the value of Weave; I'd yank the slot out of CJ and 3-4 slot Weave, trying to ED-cap its defense value.

In general, I'd make less effort to get +recharge; Willpower hardly benefits from it, and small a mounts of +rech won't make much difference in your attack chain unless you're going for a specific chain. So I'd consider replacing the Oblits in your PBAoEs with 3 Erads and 3 Cleaving Blows. If you pick which ones carefully, you can ED-cap damage and recharge that way, getting those attacks back faster than you would with Oblits, and you'll have more end reduction and the defense bonuses. Acc enhancement will only be moderate, but it's easy to pick up global +acc (and I don't think your current Oblit slotting gives great +acc either). You could dump out the Gift of the Ancients set pieces in your defense toggles, for example, and 4-slot LOTGs with the exact same enhancements, and get the +9 global acc from each power.

Although I haven't made a Tanker with WP yet, they say you ought to have two slots of +taunt in RTTC if you really want keep aggro.

PS: Also, I'd seriously consider dumping the slots out of Indomitable Will (+def only vs Psi) and putting a resistance set (probably 4 Reactive Armors) into Tough.

Note that all the Kin Combats will cost you a lot unless you pile up the A-merits.
I don't have access to Mids to check the numbers, but I like your suggestions a lot. The only reason I built in the recharge bonuses was to have SOW up as often as possible since recharge is not enhanceable on it, but taking your suggestions will save me some inf, esp if I replace the LotG global recharges with def/end. As you pointed out, the kin combats are going to set me back a pretty penny.
  21. Okay, here is the updated build. I was able to softcap S/L def. I left the oblits in there for the recharge bonus, but removed the proc in favor of end reduction. Thoughts?

  22. I'll take you up on this again for the full 200 mil as I have recently started my own SG to store my alts. @Guardian Irish-Fury.
  23. Great input guys, and it is greatly appreciated. I was not aware of the bruiser -20% res from the tier 1 attack as I typically do not play tanks, but I did some reading up on it after your posts and will definitely make better use of that attack.

I think with this build I got a little hung up on positional defense. Hence the multiple Obliteration and Mako's sets. I think I might be better served going for S/L def with some Kin Combats as apposed to the Mako's I have slotted currently, as well as adding some end reduction to my attacks.

Endurance was one of my major concerns with this build, and I am glad you gave me some ideas on how to shore up my endurence usage. I had decided already on the cardiac alpha, but even with tier 4 (which I am not close to yet) I was still a little concerned with the end drain from my BA attacks.

Is it possible for me to softcap S/L defense without gimping the build elsewhere, or should I not worry about soft capping since I have pretty good S/L resist numbers?

With the build posted I am softcapped to fire/cold/energy/neg and around 25% to S/L, melee/ranged/aoe, but as you pointed out and I am aware, endurance drain is a major concern.

Without mids at my finger tips, I think swapping out the Mako sets for four slotted Kin Combats, adding 4 slots to beheader with a set of kin combats, and swapping one of the oblit slots for a end red IO in each of the aoe's will do what I want. Thoughts on those changes?
  24. I do not have access to Mids at the moment, but here are my power selections and slotting to the best of my memory. The order of the power selections escape me so I've listed the powers by powerset.

    Willpower
    High Pain Tolerance- 5 Slotted Aegis: res/end, res/rech, end/rech, res/end/rech, res

    Mind Over Body- 5 slotted Aegis: res/end, res/rech, end/rech, res/end/rech, res

Fast Healing- Full set of Numina's

Indom Will- 4 slotted: LotG Def, LotG global rech, GotA Def, GotA Def/end

Rise to the Challenge: 1 generic taunt IO

Quick Recovery: 3 slotted generic end mod IOs

Heightened Senses: 4 slotted: LotG Def, LotG global rech, GotA Def, GotA Def/end

Strength of Will: 3 slotted Titanium Coating: Res, Res/rech, res/end

    Battle Axe
    Beheader: Empty

Gash: Full set of Mako's Bite

Build Up: Full set of Gausians

Swoop: Full set of Mako's Bite

    Taunt: 1 generic taunt IO

Whirling Axe: Full set of oblits

Cleave: Full set of mako's bite

    Pendulum: Full set of Oblits

    Pool Powers/Fitness
    Hasten: 3 generic rech IOs

SS: 1 generic run speed IO

Maneuvers: 3 slotted Lotg: Def, Def/end, Global Rech

Tactics: 1 slotted Rectified Recticle +perception

Vengeance: 1 slotted LotG global Rech

    Kick- Empty

Tough: 2 slotted Steadfast Protection: KB protection, +def

Weave: 3 slotted Lotg: Def, Def/end, Global Rech

Health: 3 slots: Regen Tissue +regen, Miracle +rec, Miracle Heal

    Stamina: Full set Performence shifter

I apologize for not having the mids data, but this is the best I can do right now. Any suggestions are welcome. My only request is no purples or IO sets. Thanks for your insights.
  25. We will run Manticore on the March 31st meeting since it will be the WST that week. Double merits and XP bonuses are nice. The plan for March looks like this:

Thursday, March 17th- Citadel Task Force
Thursday, March 24th- Moonfire Task Force
Thursday, March 31st- Manticore Task Force
