Actually, there were a few changes to base items that folks are not exactly pleased about.

What's the problem with posting them in both places?

I almost never go to the official website.

Why not just ADD alternate items, then? Seems like it would have taken the same amount of effort as it took to change them. All they would have needed to do was copy the existing art, then add what they wanted and call it a new thing... leaving the original alone.

I used the empty beaker stands as "sushi plates" on my sushi bar, as well as "truss" for hanging spotlights around my dancefloor.

Typical of them to "give" us something we never asked for.
  4. Anyone else notice that the crystals are now super neon bright, and there are reflections on the arcane TPers' metal filigree?

The green crystals are just painful to look at.
  5. Seems odd.

I was under the impression that Ultra Mode wasn't going to affect anything in bases or regular instanced missions.

Though I just saw in another thread that someone was having difficulty in base edit mode. The pictures of items in the editor are all blanked out, and his lighting settings have been reset to default.
  6. My wishlist would be:
    • (You know what's coming... my pet peeve)... Increase salvage racks from 30 to 100 items to be on par with the rest of the storage bins/tables.
    • Give us Wall & Floor items so that we don't have to create walls & floors out of a bajillian small items. This would eliminate a lot of clutter that is currently the cause of lag & crashes in the base/editor.
    • Please fix the rent/power bug. You know, the one where folks return to an inactive base and can't activate it even though rent is paid up.
    • Functionality!
    1. A mission computer that gives out missions,
    2. NPCs or "terminals" that allow for WW or store access, perhaps unlocked through badges
    3. Offline promote/demote & a log of the action
Just to rattle a few off the top of my head... I know there are more.

I understand that the Devs are most likely working on the issues that have already been planned for the year, but Bases have been on the back burner for too long. We need some luvin'.

This is exactly what I'm talkin' about.

The devs could have easily dumped a dozen AV spawns (12 of each AV) on top of the crowds of heroes on Freedom server. It would have
    • broken up the crowd,
    • forced a cycle of heroes through the hospital (a strategically placed spawn point would make this a minor inconvenience),
    • reduced lag, and
    • provided plenty of opportunity for everyone to get badges.
    • Also, it would have taken more time for the heroes to mop up, time that the Dev/GMs could have used to jump over to the other instances and do the same thing.
Again, the difference between Justice & Freedom was night & day. And I would guess that there were just as many players in the Talos instance on Justice as there were in one Atlas instance on Freedom. In other words, the instances had similar loads. The difference is a matter of how the load was mitigated/managed.
  8. I have to say, my experience on Freedom today was an extreme opposite of my experience on Justice yesterday.

I did not enjoy the Freedom experience at all.

I had more fun with the multiple-AV-spawn-all-at-once death fest on Justice than I did with the soft-glove-single-spawn-per-30-mins lag fest on Freedom.

The thing is, the OMG-there-are-FIVE-(seven?)-of-EACH-AV tactic actually WORKS for these reasons:
    • Multiple AV's allow for more opportunities for more people to actually get in on a fight... ie, get some damage in (more badgies for everyone).
    • Multiple AVs (or the GM "I win" button) cause mass death, which creates a forced cycle of heroes, giving alternating teams more opportunities to get in on a fight... ie, get some damage in (more badgies for everyone).
    • Multiple AVs causes the massive mob of heroes to break up, which reduces lag (lag is still there, but it IS reduced), which allows folks to... get some damage in (more badgies for - you get the idea).
I was able to get almost all the badges, a couple dozen merits and my title on two characters on Justice (even with all the time spent in the hospital). I know of other players who managed it on even more toons.

I did not get a single badge, got maybe a half dozen merits, and had to wait around for an extra hour & a half (in spite of playing the event from the beginning) to get my title on ONE character on Freedom.
    Problems with the Freedom experience:
    • Not enough AV spawns. There were several pathetic Ritki spawns scattered about, and a few extra monster spawns, but not nearly enough AVs. I don't think I saw more than a dozen heroes actually die. I died once, on my lvl 19 'troller, near the end of the event.
    • Only one or two AV spawns at a time. Not enough to break up the massive mob of heroes all trying to pound on the same AV(s), which only exasperated the lag.
    • Not enough spawns in ALL ZONE INSTANCES. If you were unlucky enough to land in a 2nd, 3rd, or (dog forbid) 4th zone instance, you were pretty much SOL for spawns.
    • Titles were given out haphazardly at best. At the end of the event, we were told we could pick up a title at Pocket D, of which there were 4 instances. Instead of the Dev/GMs rotating through the instances, we were left guessing & chasing our tails trying to figure out where the Dev/GM was that was passing them out.
    • Communication was ... sparse... to put it nicely.
The poor execution of this event on Freedom made it much, much, much less fun than the one on Justice.

I'll take the death fest over lag fest any day.
  9. Played on Justice.

The lag was par for the course, not any worse than Ritki Invasions or Halloween Zombies. My system did finally crash during the last 10 minutes of the event (even after exiting/refreshing the game to switch toons).

I died several times on my defender, so ended up tagging folks in the hospital with sb/id (since I was there so much anyway, lol). The multiple versions of the AV's was overwhelming at times (seriously, 5-7 of GW, Sirc, Scorp, & Mako... all at once). There were times when the entire hill would suddenly be covered with orange hero names.

Nevertheless, I managed to still get several badges and lots of yummy merits. So, overall... I'm sassified.
  10. Heh... It was fun.

My poor defender had a hard time surviving, though... so, since I was spending so much time in the hospital anyway, I decided to hand out sb/id to whoever I could tag while I was there. Every so often, I'd run out into the fray, y'know, just to be reminded how it felt to be one-shot-squashed by Ghost Widow or Black Scorpion.

My ice tank survived a bit better.

Got badges, got merits, got title... I'm a happy camper.
  11. You need to have base edit permissions in order to place a pole...

  13. I think a simpler compromise would be to have the storage bins/racks/tables default to alphabetical sorting. The enhancement tables could also have an extra option to sort by level. This would allow for flexibility in set-up (different bins with special permissions & such), while simplifying organization.

    my 2 cents
  14. You know it's bad when the first response that comes to mind is a "mom-phrase"...

"What part of 'no' don't you understand? The 'N'? or the 'O'?"

Let's go the route of encouraging more sg/vg participation with bases being the hub of such activity.
I think the question on personal apartments comes down to implementation. Would a personal apartment be a separate thing from the SG? If so, then what would encourage a player to join an SG, if they can just go get themselves an apartment?

Would the apartments be special rooms in the base? If so, then how would edit permissions work?

Could it be set up like coalitions? ... Where the players' apartments are linked to the SG somehow?

I don't know. I really like the idea of personal apartments as a means to getting more people involved in this creative aspect of the game, but it does beg the question of "HOW?".

Yes, and I think the OP is saying that for development purposes, maybe we should try to focus on things that that bases don't do (yet), and thinking of ways that they could be accomplished.

If we are constantly focusing on "moar decor plz!", that's what we'll end up getting, instead of things that would actually improve the functionality of bases for all members, not just the editors.

Fire-Away is simply asking if we can actually make a separate list for functionality. It can be done, it just takes a little focus.

Djeannie, you had some really good suggestions, but you just couldn't help yourself, and still ended up adding in things that are more decor oriented. As you say, it's a natural inclination, given the function of the editor.... but...

As Black has pointed out, functionality development doesn't have to be limited to the editor. Using SG badges to acquire special SG items is a tried & true mechanism for getting all SG members involved in SG activities.

    I know there have been mutterings of bringing back the CoP Trial for raids, but I would also like to see non-raid related TF's for SG's. Perhaps a TF could allow the SG to;
    • place a store NPC
    • expand their storage (my own pet peeve)
    • get a discount for plot upgrade
    • get a prestige grant
    • any number of the other lovely suggestions that have been mentioned.
  17. I agree that functionality should not be sacrificed for the "low hanging fruit" of decorative items.

Decorative items would be a nice little "tide me over" for a little while, but I would hate to see that turn into the be all/end all for bases when they have the potential to be so much more.

And I agree that bringing back raids is only going to appeal to a minority here. Not dissing our PvP brothers & sisters, but as far as development goes, there could be more functionality for everyone.

Unfortunately, one of the reasons that I have not been as active here as I was formally, is because I realized nearly 1 1/2 years ago that bases were not going to be a priority for a while... especially since GR was obviously such a major focus. GR is nearly out, and I have no doubt that focus is already turning to the issues that are already planned out for the rest of the year. Call me a pessimist, but if they're just now asking us for input, we won't see results for a while yet.
  18. The way the first line is worded, it seems to say that each server should have a specific zone to report to... 'Depending on your server, go to these zones'...

Okay.... so we have a list of servers and times... but which zones for which servers?
  19. Sorry your wife's such a slacker.

Except that, as I understand it, "person" in legal terms means a living person. Once you are dead, you are not defined as a person, but as a corpse or cadaver. A dead person has no legal rights or recourse except by a will or testament that has to have been written while they were alive. Laws regarding corpses are written separately from those written in regards to living persons.
