Q&A Session Translated

I have once again broken the Steelclaw Patented Translate-O-Tron 5000 and 1/2 out of mothballs for the purpose of translating the Q&A session that went down today.

As before, I must stress the fact that I have no control over the T-O-T's interpretation of the data I feed it. The fact that I also fed it a bean beef burrito with green sauce moments before the data should have no bearing on the translation what so ever.... most likely... probably... well, at least not very much.

And now, I present to you the Translate-O-Tron's translation...

Translation: HOWDY! I'm War Witch and I'm surrounded! I'll try to smile through out this process but they're all leaning in real close and at least one of them had garlic for lunch.

I know you may get alot of this but I've written down a few ideas for content for later issues would you guys mind taking a look at?

Posi- Paragon, like most studios, does not accept unsolicited work. This is due to the legal nature of the fact that we might be working on the exact same idea.

Translation: I want my name up in lights! Or at the very least I want to be mentioned in the credits... maybe a bi-line... heck, if you just mention my name at a party... for the love of all that's holy will someone just acknowledge my existence?

Posi- Did you guys hear something? Is there a mosquito in here?

Will villains on the red side ever get full access to the shadow shard or will it continue to be limited access through certain missions?

[Ghost Falcon] With the Going Rogue expansion, Villains who change their alignment to "Rogue" will be able to get access the Shadow Shard.

Translation: Give Villains the opportunity to get everything the heroes get... or at least give us the chance to steal it... 'cause that's what we like to do anyway.

Ghost with the Most Falcon- We won't let you villains get there because we don't like you... buuuuuut... we WILL let you become quasi-villains... not as heinous or despised as villains.. but still generally unlikeable... then you can come over to visit... but no spending the night and stay the heck away from my daughter!

Any plans for Spears as a melee set? by RussRoach

What is the next booster pack and when is it going to be released?

War Witch: The next booster pack, as you have already asked about, is the Mutant Pack! We're working to get it to you before we release the Expansion. I can't give specifics, but you'll dig it!

[David Nakayama] You can expect a shiny new hospital in Praetoria: Cole Memorial. And actually, we've just posted the concept art for it on the GOING ROGUE site expecially for this occasion. Check it out.

Translation: What other things are you going to put in the game that will further render my current video card obsolete?

David Naked-P'jamas: The hospital in Praetoria is so absolutely stupendous on a visual-effects scale your video card will get there D.O.A. Even the concept art we just posted will make your card wheeze in agony. Did we mention we get kick-backs from NVIDIA?

In Going Rogue, is the process to change sides something one can solo?

[Ghost Falcon] Absolutely. Players will be able to switch alignments when solo.

Translation: In Going Rogue, will I have to convince a bunch of my friends to change sides with me if I want to become a villain?

Any-Color-But-Blue Falcon- Yeah, like you have friends.

Can EATs and VEATs use the Incarnate system?

[Castle] Yes. All characters will be able to use the Incarnate system.

Translation: Will there be any reason at all to ever play my 50th level Kheldian again?

Translation: when is Issue 17 coming out? I looked EVERYWHERE and I can't find any information on that... and I was on the web site all day... I swear!

Will you be introducing more booster packs after the origin series is completed, and if yes, what are some of the themes we can expect to see?

War Witch: Absolutely. In fact, Positron and I have been working on some cool ideas. Now that we're done with Origins, options are almost limitless for future themes. In fact, if you have ideas for future booster packs, put them in a dedicated thread. We'd like to see them!

Translation: I just checked my wallet again and it appears I have even MORE money than I originally thought! Will you be coming up with other ways to take it from me after the next Booster and GR?

Combat Crone: You bet yer sweet rosey redness we will! In fact, we have enough extra costume pieces, emotes and powers to keep you shelling out the... er... to keep you happy for years to come! Heck, if you just let us put an alotment on your paycheck we can get some of them to you before their official release date!

Will players that pre-ordered Going Rogue be able to upgrade their accounts to the Going Rogue Collectors Edition, much like how CoH and CoV allowed CE upgrades? (Asking now since I'll be in the hospital on Friday)

Posi - There will be a Complete Collection item pack released the same day that GR is released to retail. More details as we get closer to that date.

Translation: I really, really, REALLY want to play a Demon Summoning Mastermind... like... painfully want to... but I am SO addicted to costume pieces... I feel like my brain is about to explode!

Posse- Go ahead and buy the pre-order now... take a deep breath... slow and easy... in through the nose ... out through the mouth... okay... now that you can think clearly again... yes.. you will be able to get those pieces separately... we did this out of the goodness of our hearts... not so we could get the same amount of money from you without having to give you a free month of gaming.

The Going Rogue page states that we will be getting extra character slots, can you clarify for us if this means that we'll be able to have more than 36 slots on one server or is this just free character tokens that we'll have to use on other servers? by CounterAgent

[Ghost Falcon] Players will receive two (2) "Character Slot" tokens which they can use to unlock any "locked" character slots. If a player has unlocked all available slots already on a server, the player will only be able to redeem those "character slot" unlocks on another server. There are no plans at the moment to expand the available Character Slots beyond 36 slots per server.

Translation: I have alt-itis... badly... but I only play on Freedom... the extra slots will give me 38 slots on that server, right?

Ghost Dog Wonder- Seriously guys, the other servers aren't that bad... really they aren't... you should at least TRY them once in a while... and NO we're not going to merge the friggin' things!

[Castle] As a matter of fact, we always discuss new travel powers and had a meeting this morning to discuss this. (NOTE: To clarify, there are no new travel powers planned for Going Rogue!)

[Castle] A character who switches sides completely will retain their current Ancillary / Patron Powers until they respec. At which point, they will be forced to select from their "current" alignment. Heroes and Vigilantes count toward "Heroes". Villains and Rogue count toward "Villains".

War Witch: Funny you should ask this. It just so happens that I put them in hospitals in Praetoria. None yet in Paragon City/Rogue Isles, but I'll get one of my World guys to get to it at some point.

Ward Wench: Oh yeah, we have a nurse in the Praetorian Hospital... she's wearing this cute little cut-off "naughty nurse's" uniform... and she smiles while offering to "take your temperature"... her uniform makes the "costumes with skin" option look like a nun's habit... we're sure you'll find her "inspiring"

Does Praetoria have radio missions?

[Ghost Falcon] No.

Dead Duck- The airwaves in Praetoria are a battleground between the government regulated "Official" stations and the pirate broadcasts of the Resistance. You won't get missions from these sources... but you WILL get more propaganda than an all-day ticket to the movie theater during World War II...

Can you give us some more detail on how morality arcs will work, and approximately how much time it will take to switch from Hero to Vigilante, and then from Vigilante to Rogue? by mentalgiant

Posi- There is a cooldown timer that will slow the process. We are still working on the exact numbers, but we're eyeballing a week's worth of work to switch one degree.

Translation: I have the attention of a may-fly in the middle of mating season... how long do I have to wait to make my hero a villa... OH! Is that a bunny?

Posi-Bull: We find that making you people take your time in doing things means you'll play the game longer... which means you'll stick with it longer... which means you'll keep paying your subscriptions longer... er... I mean... we want you to feel an investment in your characters and roleplaying their change from light to dark or vice-versa...

Did you ever consider creating a power that would instantly swap your toon with another one from your account? E.g., you could exchange your blaster with a healer without logging off, remaining in your team/task force (similar to a kheldian form shift).

Posi- We considered it a few years back, but the tech hurdle was insurmountable without a complete overhaul of several systems

The coming of Ultra mode leads me to ask, is there any possibility for "Ultra" level textures in the future?

[David Nakayama] GOING ROGUE will let you explore modern cityscapes built with Ultramode in mind. The window textures alone are pretty sweet.

Translation: I have a great computer and love the taste of the tears of those with inferior systems. Is there a chance in the future that every aspect of the game will look like a fully rendered Final Fantasy cut-scene?

David "Ink-for-blood" Nakayama: Are you kidding? We're going to make FF animators look like a bunch of hacks. You'll be able to see whether that Hellion has clogged pores before we're done.

Will the INF to Prestige conversion rate ever be revisited (and improved?)

Posi - Quite possibly. This is a good thing to look into again. Thanks for the question

Posi-Tonic: We've decided to follow Farmville's example on this one... while the influence to prestige conversion will still suck... the real cash to prestige conversion will be very nice indeed!

[Ghost Falcon] This was misinterpreted at PAX East. There are no war walls in Praetoria.

What is a typical day at the office like for the employees and you developers at Paragon Studios? by SmashZone

[David Nakayama] With GOING ROGUE in full production mode, I think it's safe to say that a typical day is BUSY. For me, a typical day is a mix of reviewing the current state of all the art in Praetoria, working with all the various artists, and some painting.

Asking that question, you have NO idea how ironic it is that your name is SmashZone.

With Going Rogue, do you have to choose a side? Or is it possible to play a neutral Praetorian up to level 50?

War Witch: You will always be a Praetorian first, but you DO have to pick a side. The good news is, you can always change your mind later.

Translation: I can never decide anything... I've owned the game for two years and have yet to make a character from start to finish... I think not having to decide on a hero or villain will help me... can I continue to stay undecided after I make a character though?

War Wiccan: You will always be a Praetorian first, but you DO have to eventually choose a side... probably by level 20 or so.... I see a lot of alts in your future.

Is issue 18 going to be released with Going Rogue? As of now this has been the consensus but we have had no evidence to support it.

[Castle] As mentioned at PAX East, we announced Kinetic Melee and Electric Control as two more additional Power Sets. We are always exploring more (post Going Rogue).

Ruins: Yeah! Glad you asked! I've been bathing in toxic waste every night for the past few weeks... so far nothing has happened other than a lack of sensation in the right side of my face and my toenails all fell out... but eventually I really hope to get laser vision! Oh! And maybe superspeed... as long as W.W. will let me work a 20 minute work-day because of it...

Posi - There is a TON of new content in Praetoria, and the GR system has a slew of content that relates to making moral choices.

Translation: In my day we did missions the traditional way! There weren't none of yer new-fangled Mission Transporters! We didn't even have travel powers! We WALKED to our missions! Uphill! Both ways! Are there hills in Praetoria? What about travel suppression?! And dangit, stay the hell off my lawn!

Valve recently began accepting submissions for community-created content such as hats and weapons. Do you have any plans to allow something similar (e.g. community-made costume pieces/textures)?

[David Nakayama] As announced on Wednesday, we're having an anniversary contest in which players can submit their own Loyalist propaganda or Resistance graffiti for possible use in the game. I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with.

Translation: I would really love to do your job for you... and I'm willing to do it for free. Fan-created items would be cost effective for you and give us a chance to take more personal pride in the game. Personal involvement would likely also result in a deeper loyalty to the game itself, resulting in longer subscription times.

What is the chance of having a "wipe clean" respec for a toon to repick powers or Archtype. I have been told the reason is no heroes ever change their powers. I have to disagree on that. Superman Red/Blue or Guy Gardner and their are a lot more. A vetpwr?

Posi - The reason isn't that those characters don't, it's more that a complete overhaul invalidates a ton of work we've put into making the game alt-friendly.

Translation: Right now I am stuck with power leveling, which takes me a whole freaking day and a half to get from first to 50th level. Can't you just let me do an uber-respec and shift my existing 50 to whatever archetype and power set I want? I mean, c'mon... My time is valuable here!

With the new Ultra Mode will we be seeing any water based powers?

Posi - That would require making Ultra-mode required for everyone (who gets to see your powers), so not in the foreseeable future.

Translation: I want to shoot out bolts of water... and I want the water bolt to have fully reflective surfaces... and I want to get a screen shot of my enemy's look of terror reflected in the water bolt that's about to take him out! Can I have that?

Checkmated: Actually, there IS a way of doing the Deified-AT right now. Get into the game in any zone. Get your character up somewhere high. Now, adjust your camera angle so you are looking down on the city... and stand up out of your computer chair... in a loud, bellowing voice scream out "I am the Deity Archetype! And I command this world's destruction!" Now, turn off your computer. Congratulations.

Is there any way to make our toons smaller? there is smaller things in game I really want to make a tiny fairy

[David Nakayama] Wouldn't work too well in the current engine. PM Castle for details if you're interested.

David Sack o' Trauma: Wouldn't work too well in the current engine. They get caught in the pistons and all ground up like tiny dog meat. Then there's all the environmental impact of that fairy dust being blown out with the carbon monoxide emissions.

Star Stitch: Unfortunately not. This isn't our fault really; the Union stepped in and negotiated a settlement. Our lawyers didn't read the fine print and now these guys have 8 hour paid breaks with two fifteen minute work periods each day. That's what we get for not just letting the Family take care of it.

[David Nakayama] Ultramode is completely opt-in. So things'll look consistent for low-end machines, and quickly ramp up to 'spectacular' with high end cards.
