The one red side, failed pretty bad, just not enough people. By failed, I mean we got a few, but mostly got blown out of the sky, over run and didn't get anywhere near the goal the person running it set.

I've never had so much fun failing something in this game.

The one blue side, was a success in that we destroyed ship after ship, and We beat or got close to the leader's goal. It was like 40-50 or something like that.

It was so much fun I can't really think of how to express it. Something about having dozens and dozens of heroes, FLYING through a zone, wiping out giant ships of alien invaders. It was liberating, it was fun and it felt SUPER. The skies were filled with heroes and the ships dropped like flys.

It was like straight out of a comic book, or comic book movie. And even when people were just hanging out, dozens of heroes hovering in the air waiting for the next announcement of rikti heading to a zone, then having tons of heroes all flying off in the direction of that zone.

Honestly, to me it's the pinnacle, The Paragon of the City of Heroes Concept. Tons of Super Heroes, being Super, being Heroic, fighting the bad guys, doing it together.

It's a ton of fun, it is it's own reward, next time raid week comes around I'm chomping at the bit to do it again, and it should be more fun since heroes and rogues will be able to go to ANY zone to take them on...

And for the record, I'd go nuts to be able to do one of these in Praetoria.... Even if it will never happen.

Ooookay, so with this new I19 info we see Ouroboros having fallen from on high right into its own lake, however unlike a person, it doesn't get teleported back into the sky. Or maybe it did, so the whole thing just keeps smashing into the water over and over again and that's why it looks so ruined.

ANYWAY we can see from some screenshots that the Crystal Titan has deigned crashed Ouroboros a superior place to stand and look imposing.

Now, anyone who has ever participated in a redside Hami raid is used to the ol' zone entry popup that talks about the Hamidon ripping its way into our reality.

This begs the question "well what reality does he come from, then?" I don't know, but considering the Hamidon is just one big cell, I posit that it is a REALLY BIG reality.

Blueside we know that Hamidon is a scientist coincidentally ALSO named Hamidon, and it makes me wonder just what reality sees children being named Hamidon.

Nobody knows where Praetorian Hamidon came from, all we know is that he "showed up sooner than he did on Primal Earth because of nukes." So either Hamidon Pasalima of Praetoria got totally spooked and whipped up whatever crazy hippie tonic turned him into a giant cell way way way ahead of schedule, or this one also barged its way into someone else's reality to be a jerk.

Also we don't know what Praetorian Hamidon looks like, other than it has claws and tentacles.

But then again, that's probably a lie because Emperor Cole didn't want to go around saying he beat up a violent Jell-O mold.

ANYWAY my point is, and I do have one this time, is that...

    Okay I'm wrong, I don't have a point.

NO WAIT I DO, I think Hamidon has something to do with the Coming Storm. Him, or whoever created him. The Red/Praetorian ones, anyway. They're also responsible for Shivans, so whoever it is has a serious thing for jelly and glowing crap.

So I guess the real question is, where does Hamidon come from? Who made him? Some kind of cosmic watchdog force that sends huge-*** microorganisms to give nature a fighting chance against industrial civilizations? Did Hamidon Pasalima accidentally stumble upon the method said watchdog force uses to make these giant, giant cells?

SPECULATE WITH ME because I'm tired of typing.
I agree, I really want the vanguard leg accessories too. Well any leg accessories, I like the idea of extra stuff for the thighs. It'd be neat.

Nothing says "fun" like having your freedom of choice taken away from you.
They aren't forcing you to waste power slots of enhancement slots on fitness pool. They are giving them to you for free.

It'd be like complaining that the Devs force you to take sprint and brawl.
  4. Mostly I'm disappointed that they nerfed the players ability to perform the Trial, while leaving bugs in the trial that favor the NPC.

As Minotaur pointed out, there are no rewards for killing the mobs in this. You only get a reward if you win. Even then, for such a tricky trial, you only get 10 merits. ITFs can be done in an hour, much more easily and you get 24 merits.

So you have a tricky trial, doesn't give any drops from the mobs, doesn't give great rewards and you just decided to take out some of the player's options because it made it too easy. But they left in the bugs that let the AVs perform in a way that they aren't supposed to, and make them that much harder to perform.

It's like the Devs are trying to make this Trial, which many people waited for a long time to be put back in, un-popular.

I've played on virtue and run several of these now, only 1 has been successful. Any time we see the Purple AV show up, people throw in the towel, it's too hard to beat him, even if we don't team wipe he regens so damn fast, shooting through his forcefield and all that. Even with nukes, we couldn't beat him.

Now there are no nukes, so now what? The trial is going to be pointless if you don't have a really good set of 24 people. There are no rewards at all if you don't win, even if you do win you don't get much and even with a really good team, you have a 50\50 chance of getting an AV that's bugged and completely over powered. And now we don't have one thing that made it a little more bearable...

I wouldn't mind the lack of nukes if they at least fixed the AVs at the same time..

    I don't see a real case here.
Look a good game is a good game. Just because it's in the same IP as a previous game has no bearing on weather or not the game is made well, wether it's fun has good graphics, sound, design , story etc. In fact, I'd say sequels are great in games because if it's a good game. They can often use it as a platform to make the next game, and give themselves a leg up.

IE use the engine, the mechanics, physics, graphics etc, so that when they make the sequel, they have these things in place, and can focus more on fine tuning mechanics, game play, new ideas and story etc.

Now Madden is actually a great case for this. I did some accounting work a few years back and EA was a client and long story short, we had interviews with some of EAs developers on several games including madden. Madden is a game where every year, they build on what came the year before, to improve it, make it better etc. Madden as of 08, still had pieces of madden 93 in it. I'm not kidding about that, that's straight from the Dev's mouths. Madden 08 was built with programming that had been in all the games from 93 on.

So in this case, Madden every year, gets a little better because instead of building something completely new every time, they improve upon the existing, already successfull game and make it better. In this way, video game sequels are iterative and make for better games in the IP as it goes on, if it's handled right.

Also, companies are probably more inclined to spend more money on proven titles like Halo and Madden, and that's when companies have the cash to start pushing the envelope, inventing new tech etc, pushing things forward, as opposed to unknown games with smaller budgets. Those games make technological leaps so other games can progress too.

That being said, I'm not a fan of Madden, and though it is more than a roster update every year, they really are just literally making the same game with a few new bells and whistles year after year since 93.

I like the Hulk but he is a hard character to keep writing interesting stories for.
This. I think it comes down to inconsistencies on a massive scale. The same problem that I think has plagued Wonder Woman, to a lesser extent. When I think of Spiderman, Wolverine, Superman, Batman, Captain America, Iron Man, I know who they are, what they are about, what their personalities are like. With the Hulk, I don't.

I should state here, I'm not a huge fan of the hulk. I try and try, I can't get into him in any format. The most recent movie was a decent movie, but I was never like, "whoa hulk is awesome!"

Though more than the inconsistencies I think it's another problem, I figured out after I saw Ang Lee's hulk. He doesn't have any really great villains. He doesn't have a Joker or Luthor or Dark Seid or Dr. Doom, or King Pen, or Venom or anything like that. A Super hero is defined by his rogue's galleries to a large extent and Hulk, who the hell does he fight? Who is his nemesis? Granted I'm not a huge comics expert, but when I ask people I know who know a lot of comics, they can't really tell me who Hulk's main baddies are.

Without a compelling Villain, a super hero is kind of Boring. Plus Hulks so over powered in his size and strength and what not. it's hard to come up with villains against him since his main weakness seems to be not controlling his anger. Honestly, a lot of times I think Hulk would be better as a villain.

By utilizing City of Heroes' current staggering amount of content, revamping the game engine, introducing some new systems and upgrades, City of Heroes 2.0 could be re-launched to the public to compete with other more current MMOs
I like the way you think.

    I hope it's that.
  9. How can you hate Noble Savage, or Tunnel Rat, or Kang or McKnight? Or Jessica Flores?

I mean sure there are some really despicable characters in Praetoria, but some of them are really cool and really funny, pitiable, sympathetic or down right nice characters.

Look me in the eyes and tell me you hate Tunnel Rat, I dare you!

Don't do it though, for real, it'd break my heart.

My hat's off to the devs for the writing in praetoria, the characters have come alive and they are awesome.
  10. Option 1.

Honestly, if all your doing is giving higher res textures to the old stuff, there is no reason to keep the low res items still there. Who would use it? As long as your not changing the texture or look, as people already discussed with the metallic pieces.

IMO the tights in this game, all need a drastic update. They were good in2004 but now, compared to all the new stuff in the game, they just don't stack up. They dont color right, they don't look like fabric, they look like colored skin.

And honestly, they don't look good. If the game is going to stay up to date, some of the old stuff needs to be purged. Some people won't like it, but it's better that the game as a whole looks good.

I've always said, take away Hide and stalkers are a joke AT. Maybe you should play a scrapper and you'd have a chance at actually surviving those ambushes.
Hmm yes, if you take away the power the entire AT is built upon, the entire concept is centered around, yes the AT would be a joke.

Then again if you took away critical hits and the defenses, scrappers would be jokes too.

If you took away ranged powers, blasters would be a joke, so would corruptors.

You're argument seems to be that it's not crap game-play, the OP just has to pick a "better" AT. It's a flawed argument, it's not his fault that the Devs designed missions that are much harder for some ATs.

Good game play, would be to have missions that were challenging for all ATs, but not easy for some and impossible for others.

Rant aside: Ambushes in Praetoria are insane.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the new content. Praetoria is gorgeous and the missions are a lot of fun. The new content is challenging and very rewarding. but some of the Ambushes in the new content I just have to wonder, what the hell were the devs thinking?

I've had solo ambushes that even on my MM or scrapper, there is just no way I can take them down. I've done the same missions on full teams that were mopping up the Mobs, then ambushes of PPD or Clockwork or Syndicate come that are so huge, the team wipe is a forgone conclusion.

I mean, a couple of those ambushes had Dozens of enemies coming at us all at once. I've seen entire rooms filled with ambushes. the team knows it's going to wipe. We all come back to the door and just pull later. then the next ambush comes and we know we're going to wipe because the sheer number is insane.

Honestly, though I love the new content. Anytime dieing or a team wipe is a forgone conclusion , or an inevitability, it's not good game play. It's not anymore fun than walking into a room and knowing the enemies can't touch you.

Good game play is when you have to work for it, but it can be done if you do it right. Challenging is good, to the point where you just get killed repeatedly and the ambushes hunt you through the map so there is no way to avoid it aside from leaving the instance... Isn't fun.
  12. So do I get extra slots now to slot the fitness inherents? I mean seriously thats 4 new inherent powers that are going to be there. I'm going to want to slot them, but if I do that and have 3 extra powers, now my slots are running even thinner.

Not to mention, ALL of my toons have fitness. That means respecs to all of them. Unless they keep the pool and the inherents. In which case, more end and health for me I suppose.

I hope that they handle this carefully, I have a lot of toons balanced just the way I want them, 3 new powers opening up and having 4 new inherents is going to gum up the works big time.

  16. Alright, I just finally changed my alignment from vigilante to full on villain, and I got a lot of badges I don't think I should have gotten.

Now my understanding of the system is that when you go from hero to villain or vice versa, some badges change names. That doesn't mean you should get extra badges, aside from the ones granted from the switch from vigilante to villain.

That being said I was awarded with an additional 13 badges when I switched.

I went from 759 badges, to 774 badges. Now 2 of those were from the switch. Descended, the badge for switching from hero to villain. And Dastardly, for completing a Villain morality mission.

A third badge, Surging, I earned from defeating death surge as a vigilante, but it was rewarded late.

however as near as I can tell ,12 more badges were added to my character that I DID NOT earn..

Invader - Earned from getting all the exploration badges in Mayham missions. I have not done a single mayham mission yet.

Force of Nature - Gotten from destroying things in mayham missions. Again, I haven't done any mayhem missions on that character.

Meglomaniac- Accolade, I haven't done several requirements.

    Demonic - Same as above

    Marshal - Same as above

Headline Stealer - Same as above

High pain threshold - same as above.

It seems that they are the Villain version of accolades I have earned hero side. However I have not earned these villain side yet, and they didn't replace my hero accolades, they were added onto it.

Now is this WAI? I hope not, I was looking forward to earning those badges and I'm a little miffed that I got them this way.

If it's a bug, it needs to be looked at.

Edit: Actually looking at it now. The only ones I was awarded with, that I didn't earn, were villain accolade equivlents of hero accolades. The others were retro actively rewarded gladiator badges, that I do have the requirements for.

Ouroboros is not a co-op zone, but it seems like a real problem if rogues and vigilantes get flagged as enemies to their current team when they zone through there.
Sounds related to me. Sounds like a similar bug in the Going rogue system, what ever tech they used to make all the ATs friendly, apparently has a flaw in the system..

curious how this never seems to have popped up in co op zones like RWZ, Cimerora or Pocket D.

No I didn't. I wasn't the mission owner, and the mission owner wasn't all that keen on bug hunting at the time. He auto completed the mission when we couldn't defeat it normally.

I was the only loyalist on the team, and the only one who could attack and be attacked by my team mates.

I did leave the mission several times going to the hospital etc, I could not target my team outside the mission but when I entered I would be able to target them again.

My AOEs hit NPCs as well as my team, and my teams Debuffs worked on me.
  20. I entered a mission Imperial city from the contact Vagabond. The mission is entered by talking to Elana I entered the mission and when I started targeting people, I was targeting my team mates and their pets.

I then attacked them and killed a couple pets and a team mate. I was NOT confused. I died, left the mission to go to the hospital, went back into the mission. Once more could attack my team mates, they could attack me back. They killed me. I rezed and could still attack them.

During this time I could also attack the clockwork in the mission with me. As well as my teammates and all of their pets, veteran and MM pets alike.

Everyone else on the team is Resistance, I am loyalist. I have no idea how to repeat this. I bugged it in the game and I'm bugging it here, seems like a big bug.

EdIt: Additioanlly, when team mates tried to give me inspirations they got an error message that they couldn't give me things because I was an enemy.

I didn't think that in mission PVP would happen just because I'm a loyalist teamed with resistance. This can't possibly be WAI can it?

Edit 2: Also, when I left mission, I could no longer attack my team mates, I could only attack them in the mission.

Additionally, the mission could not be completed conventionally since apparently the final objective didn't spawn. (I've not done this mission before, I don't know how it was supposed to end, but according to my team, the final objective wasn't there.)
  21. I actually don't think this is the worst idea ever. They are essentially making a movie about naval warfare. Battleship was a very simple game and that works in the favor of the people making the movie. There is so little for them to mess up and so much freedom to add their own story, plot, characters etc.

It's not like their taking a piece of history and making a movie about where they have to drastically change or mess with the facts to make it "compelling" or what ever. I'm looking at you Pearl Harbor. This is simple. Take the basic concept of ships trying to find each other and sink each other in a giant naval battle, and make that into a movie.

If they do it right they can have good action scenes, good tension, life and death choices, great visuals even fun characters. It's not the worst idea in the world.

Honestly, if he's really as good at stealth as we are supposed to believe, the bad guys won't see the yellow until it's way too late.

I knew a girl who put a bell on her cat's collar once, so that unsuspecting birds in her back yard would hear the cat coming before she could kill the birds. The cat just got to the point where that bell was the last things those birds ever heard.

I figure with batman, the yellow symbol would just be the last thing the bad guys see before they end up in Arkham.

Yeah, this is my read on stalkers as well. I like the concept of stalkers, but for being so squishy, they don't put out enough damage. They die quick and they don't kill so fast.

I always figured Stalkers were supposed to be like Blasters of melee, Glass cannons so to speak. Fragile assasins. Give them higher ST damage and I think more teams will want Stalkers and they could be more fun to play.
