Buff Toggle NPC
- An NPC has been added in Pocket D which allows players to select whether or not they are affected by the movement-affecting components of certain player powers. This setting can be changed at any time by visiting this NPC.
Tried asking for help from those hanging about, but got ignored? A big "Thanks so much!" to all those with the big "Help" sign over their heads. -
Quote:I've done similar myself. I'd like to be able to delete them even if I can't break them down. A little OCD myself and I'd really rather not see them. I made a mistake, let me get rid of it even if I've wasted the components. At least a t2 only used common and uncommon and I've got warehouses filled with that junk anyway. So here's something the Devs probably never anticipated would be an issue or a desired feature, but for the sake of my mild OCD streak, I gotta ask...
In the course of filling one of my character's Interface slots, I started crafting a second power in the tree, with the intention of eventually making two Tier 3 powers into one Tier 4. But now I've had a good look at the T4 in this particular case, and it doesn't really add anything I want. So I've got a slotted T3... and a spare, superfluous, extraneous, useless and bothersome T2. And I can't get rid of it.
I've tried right-clicking on the unwanted power from the master Powers list, the list of powers available to slot in Interface from the Incarnate Abilities list, the Create tab/tree, and even the Convert tab (unfortunately, "Uncommon - Breakdown" only lets you break down uncommon components, not Incarnate abilities).
I'd really rather not grind for another V Rare just to get rid of an annoying burr of a redundant power. Can anyone give me another solution? -
I find the system ridiculous because of the current abuse of the "Help Me". I choose neither, if I can and feel like helping someone I do.
The idea of choosing it because of the title color also I also find to be ridiculous since the only time I even see it is when I select a character or hover over them. I found after 2 days of playing the game that seeing everyone's name, title and affiliation floating over their heads constantly to be quite annoying. Removing the constant display also reduced my lag when in highly populated areas. Usually if I want to know something about another character I select them and then I don't look at the character, I'm looking at my target window since it is easier to read and I have options there. I've been contemplating turning it to "Never Show", don't remember if that setting exists. -
Quote:Almost any browser running in the background can cause a computer to run out or memory, depending on what is running in the browser. Almost all sites have some JavaScript running and poorly written JavaScript leaks memory like a sieve, and most sites use common libraries that are all poorly written.......Which is a resource hog itself. Until FF4, FF3 by itself could lock up my PC. Since FF4 they seem to handle resource management far better. I honestly wouldn't play CoH with FF in the background for a number of hours.
However, I get these crashes on a regular basis as well, without running anything else while running CoX. I'd say that there are significant leaks in the CoX memory dam as well. -
Special characters would be good, also not requiring passwords to start with a letter. They only require simplistic passwords, and even prevent more secure passwords and then implement a security measure that adds no security.

Quote:I'm just glad I never gave them my credit card information. If this is the kind of thing they "think" will increase security, then I don't even want to now how they are securing credit card information. My rationale is that I really don't want the people who designed *this* security patch to have any more of my "real" personal info than is absolutely necessary, since they *really* don't have the foggiest idea how internet security works.
Using an IP address, something that can be completely controlled by me, where I can make any server believe I am connecting from any IP address I want it to. Something that changes for many on a regular basis, like every time their modem reconnects to their ISP.
This adds no security at all and only causes a inconvenience when we need to go through the same crap over and over again.
Someone needs to take Internet Security 101. -
Quote:Finally got around to doing this. I did some missions at x4, over 100 activations of this power. No damage was ever received from my own attack. You could always put the set of Enhancements in your tray, copy that character to the Test server and try it out yourself then report back as to whether or not it is still bugged.
Either the bug no longer exists or it happens so infrequently that I won't see it. I left a note to this effect on the wiki in the talk section for the page. -
Quote:Really, that's news to me. I'll have to tell the dozens of ISPs that I work with that they are all doing it wrong and that they need to give business class accounts away to all of their customers in order to get up to speed. No, it's not. In fact, it's pretty rare these days. Has been for years... just because your ISP uses an outdated method of assigning IP addresses...
And from the OP
Quote:because the security behind my accounts has become more diffecult then my banks
I happen to be a Web Applications Developer and I deal with security concerns like this on a daily basis. I would go into an explanation of how easy it would be to hack through the IP thing specific to CoX, but that would be too far off topic and I don't think that anyone would really like me to make public the details on exactly how to do it. In order to stop hackers you need to think like a hacker and know the tools that they use. I test my own work and the work of others by devising ways to break it. -
I'm not talking about the fact that this may be an inconvenience to me to have to keep setting up new IP addresses. The fact is, that there is no way to grantee that any IP address is always used by the same person, so there is no way for them to tell on their end if I am the person I say I am by looking at my IP address.

Quote:Because my IP address is dynamically assigned by my service provider when my computer conects to them. I get the next available IP address. This is how most internet service providers assign IP addresses. Even if you connect through some type of modem, each time the modem reboots it is assigned an IP when it connects. This IP address may or may not be the same as the last time you connected. Why does your IP address change everytime you turn on your computer?
For example My service provider's IP address may start with something like 192.169.XXX.XXX
The last 2 numbers (XXX.XXX) in the IP however can be anywhere in the range of 0 to 255 (or there about, some are not available) but that is approximately 256 different values in each for a total of approximately 65,536 possible IP addresses that can be assigned to a computer/modem. Even if you eliminate the ones that can't be used there are still around 60 thousand possibilities. The service provider needs to assign a different one to each connection, so this is why there are so many.
The only way this security does anything is if you have a static IP address, and the only people that generally have static IP address are those that require a static IP address and this usually costs more money than an average internet connection. For example, my work has a static IP address. The reason is that we host web sites and the web sites need to always be found at the same IP address. Private individuals do not, as a general rule, have static IP addresses for their computers.
So, at a minimum, ignoring the fact that IP addresses can be faked, if my account was hacked this system would narrow the list of people that could do so to those that use the same service provider.
Now, if you add on top of this the fact that an IP address can be faked, this makes checking the IP address of the person connecting even more useless. Anyone that is going to attempt to hack into an account is going to be aware of the fact that IP addresses can be faked and how to do it.
Add all this together, and recording what IP addresses I connect from, becomes a completely useless act. -
My plan is:
1) Log in 15 minutes before it starts
2) Get a mission
3) Park myself in said mission
4) Go watch TV or spend some time with the family
5) Check once in a while to see if the badge was awarded
6) Once I get the badge, go to a different server and play if it is not too close to bed time -
Well, after needing to verify myself a few times now, all from my home, I can say that the security is ridiculous, and for multiple reasons, requiring me to complete this every time my IP address changes. My IP address changes every single time I turn on my computer, not to mention that eventually, someone else on my hosting service will get that IP address which makes the entire act of checking my IP address COMPLETELY USELESS!!!!!!!!
The only way that this could be of use is that if no one can EVER, EVER, EVER get the IP address that I was on when I had to answer the stupid questions and set it to allow another IP address.
They have set up something to make it more secure that cannot possibly make it more secure and there is nothing more irritating than making me do something that does not matter and telling me it is to make my account more secure when in fact it does absolutely nothing to make my account more secure. Obviously whoever thought this up hasn't got a clue how IP addresses are assigned. -
Solved it myself. Thought of something just after posting it. So now I'll tell about the stupid thing I did that caused this problem.
I recently got gifted a large some of inf and without thinking or looking at how much I had on the character I was logged in with I just hit claim. Well the amount put me over the cap and I didn't actually claim it, but it did not stay in the email, instead I guess it has been floating in the ether for over a day. To fix the problem I when to Wentworths and put up some sizable bids on some expensive enhancements (low enough that I new I would not get them) until the inf floating in the ether appeared in my total. This cleared the problem.
I still think this is a bug. It should not have allowed me to claim the influence at all and should have given me the error when I tried to claim it, leaving it in the email. -
I thought I saw this posted somewhere and came here to see what the fix might be, but I can't find it....
I can't send email. I have no emails in my box but when I try to send one I get the message:
"Your Inventory is Full. This item could not be added"
and then
"There are outstanding global email transactions. Please wait a minute and try again." -
23?! HA! On one character I did 52 trials and got nothing but uncommon. As said in another thread, either the participation meter is completely messed up for this character or random rewards for this is as stupid as everyone thinks it is. My bet is that it's both.

Quote:I can see a concern over league-wide shared drops from zone events, like MS raids, but really, so what? You already get partial credit by one toon on a team spamming AoEs and doing minor damage on as many mobs as he can hit. Sharing kills among the league would actually cut down on that practice and encourage players to kill what's in front of them.
Hate to say it, but I've done this. On one MSR I was on the lag was so bad for me that if I fired off an attack I was rooted in place for as much as 5 minutes. As long as I didn't hit an attack I was fine, I could move around. So, out of pure frustration I just moved from mob to mob letting my AoE toggle do minor damage to everything I got close to.
So, yes, any concern about giving too many v-merits is a foolish concern since by using this tactic one can pretty much insure a merit for every rikti defeated during the entire event anyway. -
Quote:I assume that this and the quoted post will be deleted, but anyway....How can you expect ppl not to reply with the thoughts that they want when, you are asking for changes that only effect a small playerbase? The animations are fine for me and most of the game populous (as i have not been in a team with someone complaining about this i take it as a very small minority). I really hope they don't change this for the reasons you stated i did not pay for high quality graphics card and monitor to have toned down graphics.
This post is merely showing my PoV it is not designed to be inflamatory or degrading to anyone
Do you know that there are certain frequencies of light that can cause epileptic seizures? Or that these seizures can be induced even in those that normally do not suffer from them given the correct frequency and color of flashing lights? Obviously not, or you would not have made the comment, your point of view or not. Headaches, minor to sever, caused by certain combinations of light color and frequency of animation are only minor symptoms. The same thing that causes some to have a headache could cause worse in others.
By being concerned about and correcting these problems NCSoft would only be being civically responsable. Just because someone with a "disability" is in the minority does not mean you can just ignore them. -
You know, after reading this thread a light came on for me. Recently I have been getting headaches while playing and attributed it to other things, not of the migraine intensity, just annoying. And I do know it is when I am doing trials, usually several in a row.
I wouldn't even know where to begin trying to isolate exactly which of the new graphics could be causing since in the trials there are powers going off everywhere.
I've also recently been turning my world detail, character detail and particle count down to minimum when running trails lately. The reason for this is that it reduces lag for me, because I still see significant lag (I also do this on MSRs and such). And the second reason is so that I can see what in blazes is going on. With all the flashy shields and bubbles and powers firing I can't see anything at all. anyway, the point about turning down these setting is that since I've been doing it, I've been getting fewer headaches while playing. They haven't stopped, just reduced.
So now I'll make note of when it happens and if I recall something in particular that may be causing it. How would one go about isolating something like this..... hey, you have barrier, mind firing firing it over and over again while I watch so I can see if it gives me a headache? -
Quote:Raises handNot everyone care about leveling as fast as possible. This may come as a shock, but some people just enjoy playing their characters, and it doesn't really matter to them how fast they level.
Quote:It's not "MY" big picture. It's the BIG PICTURE of COH...you'll play these mishes over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over againThere are also several origin contacts in the 20 to 30 range that give duplicate missions. I try to avoid these unless the contacts bar is not full.
Here's the real shocker, I play with my experience turned off probably 80% of the time so I don't out level any contacts before I can complete them.
It takes me some time to get a character from 1 to 50 and I try to stick with each unless I'm really not having fun playing them. So it is a long time between the agains for me. Most of the time I can't even remember what a mission is about when I do it the next time (and I play almost every day)
I like all levels. Most of the fun for me is getting there. Once I hit 50 what do I really have to look forward to? Right now it's running the same two trials again and again and again and again and again and..... until they make me wanna puke. -
according to the wiki
Lightning Rod
Bug! This power is currently bugged. If a Damage Proc Invention enhancement is placed in the power, it will have the chance to attack the user instead of enemies.
Is this still accurate? I have a set of Armageddon that I'd really like to put on this attack. -
You only need to log in on the 27th and from what I understand, it will be rewarded if a certain number of players are all logged on at the same time to test the server load limit.
So, you need to log in to freedom server during the even on the 27th and stay logged in until they reach the goal they have set.... sorry, I forget what the goal number is. -

I think this is pretty much the problem, no patience. It only takes a few seconds to be patience.
The lack of patience and total refusal on the part of many (not some, but many) to be patient and to follow any type of direction is the main reason I don't lead these things and really only do them because I have to in order to get what I want. Knowing my lack of patience for impatient people I'd probably just start kicking them
Is it so hard to wait for the tank or brute to pull Siege a few more feet? Is is so hard to wait for the escapees to get to the choke point before you attack instead of running out to meet them?
Is it so hard to take a moment to explain to someone that has never done a Lambda what to do after you beet the "Security Team"? Where the doors are? Why they are running in a smash and grab though the warehouse like maniac ITF speed run instead of taking out the mobs? (by the way, I hate Speed ITFs or any SPEED runs, I'd rather get poked in the eye with a stick.)
I realize, many of us have all seen the cut scenes a hundred times or more and they're getting to the point of making us puke, but, is it really that hard to just be a little patient? Is your life that pressed for time that a couple minutes is making you this upset?
Relax a little, take the moment to refill your glass, you'll live longer. -
I'm going to be honest, I find the cut scene for the BAF annoying. Usually I get a drink or take the opportunity to use the litter box.
But there is something I find even more annoying.
Usually, my connection is good and I load into the trials about the same time as everyone else. But there are times when I get there a bit late to find half the league already started. Even when I do load in quickly, I find it rude when everyone does not wait for the entire league to load into the map and they take off before half the players are there.
Just a pet peeve I guess, and every time I think, "Would it really hurt you to wait 30 seconds more?"
Removing them for only some that don't want to see them any more would be a mistake if only because of this. It needs to be an all or nothing. Either everyone chooses to skips it or everyone is forced to wait.
But on the other hand, the cut scene on the BAF pretty much ensures that everyone is on the map before anyone can start.
Personally, a few more cut scenes at the beginning, to ensure everyone is there before anyone can start, well, I'm sure I won't get any agreement on this, but I feel it would be a good thing. -
Quote:That's why I said, long enough. I'm going to log in and find a quite place where nothings going on to limit the chances of crashing and wait till the badge is awarded. A mission would be good cuz then I can go watch a movie while I wait.Don't just log on and off - there need to be 2,500 players on at once to get the badge awarded - so just go into a mission and park yourself there.
I seriously doubt my experience would be any better than the lagging crashfest I experienced tonight :P
