Crashing on 3gigs of ram?

CoH crashes on me when in Win7 (32bit) with 3gigs of ram (plus 1gig on the gpu). Basically there are no other apps running and CoH is running out of ram. It usually happens after 60 minutes+ of playing (almost like a memory leak).

I realize I should be on 64bit w/ 4gigs etc etc.... But:

I'm thinking it could handle this situation a little better... Does COH really need to crash itself? Is it just me having this problem? Are there any options I can pick to make it play nice?

You would be more likely to get good answers if you post this in the Tech Issues forum back up the page a bit. There are real tech-heads there who love to answer these types of questions.

You might want to repost in the Technical Issues & Bugs section. Make sure and read the [Guide] Asking for technical help on the forums thread first and post the relevant info.

Question, do you leave the NCSoft launcher running? If so, set it to shut down when the game is launched.

Post your CoH Helper and Hijack This logs over in the technical support forum if this doesn't help your issue.

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

Just as another data point, I'm also getting these "CoH ran out of memory" crashes on WinXP 32 bits with 4 gigs of memory (yes, I know it doesn't use all that memory fully) since last Monday (or was it Tuesday?) patch. I don't run any other programs while playing except Firefox, the NCSoft launcher is always set to turn off after the game is launched.

So, you're not alone.

On the other hand, I used to have these kind of crashes before and I don't anymore.

I'm having the same issue, really. If i play for too long or do too many different things in one session, i tend to get slow-downs and crashes.

In my completely uninformed opinion, CoH has grown too big for its britches with all the new systems, graphics, avatar options, and background events going on. I recall there being a patch recently that's supposed to send better crash data to Paragon studios so they can work on alleviating these crashes. So that's something.

Which is a resource hog itself. Until FF4, FF3 by itself could lock up my PC. Since FF4 they seem to handle resource management far better. I honestly wouldn't play CoH with FF in the background for a number of hours.

Almost any browser running in the background can cause a computer to run out or memory, depending on what is running in the browser. Almost all sites have some JavaScript running and poorly written JavaScript leaks memory like a sieve, and most sites use common libraries that are all poorly written.......

However, I get these crashes on a regular basis as well, without running anything else while running CoX. I'd say that there are significant leaks in the CoX memory dam as well.

This isn't just a Windows problem ... my CoH Mac Client exhibits the exact same Memory Leak behavior of crashing at 4 GB of memory used.

It's the end. But the moment has been prepared for ...

Me too.

It's even more problematic if I'm running the latest Mids' and CoH on the same
PC (although CoH will still crash on its own with nothing else running).

Methinks they've introduced another memory leak or two or a few, recently.

COH has a memory leak, always has have (at least on my PC). Some issues it goes aways only to return the next issue.

If I'm not doing trails the leak seems to increase very slowly and it's not really an issue, however once I start doing trails it gets to about 1.8g after about 2.5 trails (I only have 2g of RAM). I just get into the habit of restarting COH after every second trail.
