Electrical melee.
Walk into a group of mobs. Lightning Rod. Shield charge. By the time you get one of your fancy kicks off, I'll have every mob except bosses dead.
It's a thing of beauty. My elm/shield scrapper doesn't rely on fancy stuns. It doesn't rely on endurance drain.
Because the only control I need is DEATH. -
I've heard that the battle orb doesn't get its buff off always. Is this working intended, or a bug, and does anyone know if there'll be any response to it? Just curious for when I plan my Tier4 out, thanks!
-
I have aid self for any heal needs, so pretty much if I'm in a situation where I need a heal and aid self can't assist me, its either inspirations or I'm screwed.
-
I have my elm/shield fully slotted out and I love him, but I can't decide if I want to go with the recharge, or barrier. I already have lightning rod down to 26.6 seconds recharge with hasten, so I'm wondering if anyone has any advice as to what I should take.
On the other hand, barrier is always helpful, especially as a team buff and for my own survivability.
Any recommendations or ideas? -
I'll check it out. I'm already starting with another league but ugh. Hopefully this isn't going to be an issue. Thanks!
-
So tried to run my first trial. Took a while to get setup.
Aaand as soon as I enter, lag. I disconnect.
And the league leader can't reinvite me to the trial?
Is this right?
Seriously?
Is there something that I'm missing, or can you really not rejoin a trial after you get lagged out? -
I think a lot of it comes down to what the purpose is. I've had an MA scrapper up to 45, and several SS brutes.
Farming? SS/SD
General all purpose play and fun? Either one would be just fine.
Single target damage would be a tossup depending on who you ask. MA has some great single target damage, whereas SS does as well, but I think MA takes the cake here. Rage crash is also an annoying factor to consider.
AOE damage, SS wins with footstomp. DT is good but pales in comparison to the awesomeness of footstomp.
Endurance issues...well, I mean you're going to lose for both sides either way. Both will require a massive amount of Inf to fix, and probably an alpha cardiac slot.
Fun factor would personally go into MA for me. SS is fun,d on't get me wrong, but the animations on MA are great, and crane kick is awesome. The KB is annoying and yet badass at the same time IMO.
So I guess really? It all depends on what the purpose is. Farming wise SS/SD is hard to beat. -
I made a fully IOed out Elec/shield build for about under 2 billion, with no purples. It's not the BEST build, but it absolutely kicks ***, and has soft capped melee/ranged defense. More importantly, it's definitely survivable, as I rarely faceplant unless it's against something like carnies that absolutely ruins your defense. There are a few things that I should probably fix, like putting some hami-os into active defense.
Other then that though, my build offers about 9 seconds less downtime than yours on hasten, has no purples, and I think has some pretty good resists.
Keep in mind for a few things on your build, you should NOT get assault unless you REALLY plan on working on end redux. As it is, your endurance WILL tank, and I had to invest in a numina's and miracle proc with this build to make sure that I can run everything, and even every once in a while I'll get a bit low on end. I couldn't imagine running another toggle.
I also recommend the cardiac alpha.

Awesome, thanks. I was consideirng going with Kat but my character RP wise isn't really one who would be with the graces of a katana, much as he would be too busy just...stabbing and ripping thinks off with a large chunky sword.
I understand that offensively, Shield is better. However, well, everyone goes /Shield, and I already have several Shield based toons. And really, I want to be able to do something that's impressive survivability wise. I already have an impressive offensive toon with ELM/Shield, now it's time to see what I can go with in the other direction.
Thanks! -
So I can see that DA definitely has some awesome potential. I was wondering however if it was possible to build it up to an AV killing machine, or something that can easily take care of himself during the ITF even. Something that will be pretty impressive offensively and defensively. I also plan on using the t9, because having a pretty awesome stun seems REALLY cool. I don't mind the concept of using death as an excuse for a massively LOL stun.
I was thinking BS/DA or spines/da. Spines however I hear has some pretty mediocre to low single target damage. I have an elec/shield scrapper, and the single target is slightly unbearable.
BS/DA I think could be awesome, as well as Kat/DA, but concept wise BS would fit much better. I'm also up for any other suggestions that go well with DA.
...with the exception actually being DM. I had a dm/shield and while I enjoyed it and I can see how awesome it is, it didn't do that much for me. -
Quote:Thanks, but I don't exactly have the slot capacity for that right now, and I can definitely reach the softcap range with 4 basilisks gaze and some sort of damage IO, with the nice 7.5 rech bonus of basilisks gaze. I get a happy mix of damage and hold. You can slot Thunderstrike in Char too, because it deals ranged damage.
You can slot 4 Thunderstrike and 2 Basilisk's Gaze for twice the defense of just Thunderstrike. And you won't need a hold proc, because Char is already a hold.
Though the defense won't be quite as good for a Shield toon, but a total of 2.5% ranged defense isn't a bad deal. (it'd be 5% if you were slotting for typed)
So I'm pretty happy with the build now. Mu looks promising, but the damage of pyre is really enticing, especially because I'll be in a situation where my build needs the defense from basilisks gaze, and I'll have a decent bonus out of it for my rech.
Thanks everyone! -
I was doing a few more comparisons. The one hundred difference in damage is pretty tempting to go with for fireball, but someone pointed out, especially in PVP (Which...I don't even do much of anyways admittingly) that Mu is pretty great. The -end is helpful.
But then again is -recovery and -end useful when your main plan is to kill everything as quickly as possible anyways...?
Also, a friend pointed out that I can probably use the gravitational anchor hold proc with ring of fire along with four thunderstrikes for the defense if I go with fire.
So far pyre is looking tempting. For one thing I don't have to go redside, which isn't bad, but the damage looks much better in the long run, especially when your plan is to pretty much make sure everything falls dead before the blasters rain of arrows even hit the ground. -
Sorry for the late replies, I appreciate the advice.
I'll probably go with Char for now for the utility purpose and the recharge buff.
However, looking at Mu, it does look appealing except for the setback of having to go viggy then villain. However, looking through, I see that ball lightning does less damage than fireball according to mids? Is the extra damage on fireball in dot form...? There's a pretty decent difference in damage between the two it seems.
I was looking at Lightning Clap...is that a KB or a KUp? If its KB I'm not interested, since most of my damage will be through keeping mobs clustered for AOE deliciousness. I could possibly sneak in one with the shield but it wasn't that useful, and I'm going to be going with the Cardiac alpha slot, so end/recovery isn't an issue, and I'll have aid self. I figure at this point one with the shield probably won't have that much of a benefit for me. -
With my build I'll have softcapped defense with some decent recharge. 11 second recharge for char, which won't be enough to hold a boss, correct me if I'm wrong.
Anything that mezzes that isn't a lieut or below I can't hold with char anyways, and if they're a lieut or minion...well, they'll be dead or damn well near dead with LR+SC, right? And I'll have active defense for myself so that probably won't be too much of an issue unless we're talking about team play.
Ring of fire has some decent single target damage, something I need more than aoe...
I might just be going with RoF at this point because char won't seem to be that much of a help when my gameplan is mitigation through killing everything.
[EDIT] My mistake on char, it has a longer hold time, just forgot to replace the thunderstrike from ROF with a basilisks gaze. Still tempted to roll with ROF though[/EDIT] -
I was looking through getting my build as optimized as possible. I was wondering whats better? Ring of fire has a much quicker recharge and better damage, and I can get some great defense out of it with thunderstrike. On the other hand, char has that hold, and I can put a basilisks gaze in it for some rech and the ranged defense to make up for the lack of thunderstrike. Both attacks when IOed out will get me at the ranged softcap that I need.
I was tempted to put in the basilisks gaze because it gives that 7.5% recharge...the only problem being that it shaves off a second at the most of LR from 27 to 26 seconds. I'm guessing that's not really worth it for the price of even 4 basilisks.
So will ring of fire be a decent single target damage immob, or should I go with char for the utility effect and the small boost to recharge? -
So I was wondering if anyone had any idea how MA stacks up now, especially compared to BS/SD. I know that Katana does slightly better than BS, but you can't go shield with kats.
I took an MA/fire scrapper to 45, and stopped because the survivability of FA turned me off.
How does MA/SD compare to BS/SD? I'd think that end use would be an issue, but overall would the damage be better?
Anyone have any numbers or speculation? -
Like I said I've definitely considered sword and board, but I'm kind of cautious as to how it will hold up against future TFs, i.e. Tin Mage and Apex. From what I've heard, a lot of the new content, AVs especially, aren't friendly towards those with defense based powersets, i.e. shield.
So I guess specifically I am looking for something that can be awesome with end game content, or at least survivable. I'd also definitely be up for MA, I have a 45 MA/Fire scrapper that I'm just leaving around due to survivability issues.
Awesome DPS is fine and all but I'm looking for something that won't faceplant immediately on higher end TFs, if that makes sense. A friend of mine told me how the Apex TF did a great job of tearing apart his BS/Shield scrapper. I'd like to avoid anything completely terrible like that if its possible on a scrapper.
On the other hand, if pretty much most scrappers will have trouble on the late game TFs...well, I could stick with the FM/Shield scrapper I have that just hit 32.
[EDIT]Actually, looking back, what I may do is continue to use the FM/Shield Scrapper, and have him as a general farming toon, and for TFs? Use my fire/rad corr, seeing as how there always seems to be a need for buffs and debuffs and its usually not that hard to find a scrapper around.
And I'm not going to lie, a flaming sword looks REALLY BADASS with a shield. I'll have to keep in mind an MA/Shield or BS/Shield for future use though. But for now? Looks like plasma sword it is.[/EDIT] -
I can't decide what secondary to use.
I'm looking for something that's able to survive the latter TFs, either Inv, WP, or something along the lines. From what I understand, the devs are moving in a direction where the mobs more or less laugh at defensive based powersets.
I'd prefer to go with something for Kat or BS. Any suggestions? -
I have a friend who is arguing that it's better to go beyond the soft cap with defense for the Tin Mage/Apex TFs to compensate for the higher levels of the mobs.
Now, I don't know everything about the defense system in this game, just that there will always be that 5% chance to attack per defense type.
So my question is, is that math / reasoning actually valid? I mean, for higher levels, does it really make any difference if you're past the defense cap to compensate for higher accuracy or to hit?
Or can someone just explain this to me and if this is completely wrong or valid.
Thanks! -
I went with an NRG/NRG. Fire was my original plan but I had a fire corr., and I thought hell, I'll go with something I haven't done yet. I'm having a frickin' blast though. I'll probably roll a fire/nrg later because the /nrg secondary looks pretty fun to use, build up at level 4 is a big bonus too.
-
I'm just looking to be able to do some fantastic damage. I was considering NRG but the KB seems like it'd be a pretty damn annoying hassle in teams (And from playing with energy blasters most of them had no idea how to properly utilize it).
I had a fire corr and the damage was fantastic, but I want to see what the blaster can do. While buffing was fun, I was more fixated on the part where I completely melt people.
For secondaries.../Fire seems to just decide, "You know what, lets have some overkill."
Which is great but NRG has some REALLY good support abilities.
...but that damage on Fire/Fire looks amazing.
So can anyone give some input? -
Also, I don't want a WM brute because I already have a WM/WP brute and an SOA. And looking back, I think I'll be going with a SS/SHD brute first, just because the thought of all that mitigation really does seem juicy. Just gotta deal with the PITA end use.
-
I'm not planning on exemping down that much anyways.
And I'm looking at the difference between FM and SS--While Rage is in fact rather awesome, would the damage mitigated by the fact that FM is far less resisted by most mobs later on?
I guess the biggest thing for me still is just looking at the end use of SS/SHD, compared to the end use of FM/SHD. Yeah, I definitely plan on IOing one of them out, but the problem would be getting to there. I might stick with FM/SHD though just because it looks a lot cooler, especially the whole large fire sword with a shield deal. -
I've come back after a few month break and I'm interested in getting a badass Shield brute/scrapper. If I go brute, well, obviously I'll have to take SS, but if I take FM or Elec I'll probably go with a scrapper.
From personal experience, what would you guys recommend? The end drain on SS looks worrisome although the damage of SS can be pretty awesome, especially imagining it paired with rage and AAO. FM looks great, although I'm not sure how the damage output is compared to SS. Elec looks great, but it looks limited in the aspect that its single target is weak, so it'd be strictly a farming build. -
I'm real interested in making an SS/FA brute. Farming would be great, but it's more of a general PvE build. At least, I'd like to take on ITFs as well.
Will I need to focus on rech still, or can I create a build that has some focus on mainly defense with some rech? I'm not sure exactly what you should be focusing on with the SS/FA brute, although I'd assume that its exactly like the SS/Elec brute--A focus on rech above all.
As for patrons, should I go with mu for the damage, or soul for survivability? I thought about taking Darkest Night and Dark Obliteration, but also figure that with the damage I'll be doing, there won't really be needing it. Still, I figure it'd be great to put it on a boss, and just kill everything else first.
So just to recap I guess (Mainly because I'm reaaaally tired), SS/FA brute for doing farming and ITFs--recharge, or defense with a some rech, and second, Mu for damage, or Soul for survivability?
Thanks.
