Softcapping S+L makes any /kin much more fun in my opinion. It lets you play with your kinetic powers (fulcrum shift) much more aggresively against groups that toss granades, like the Council, or use pbaoe powers like footstomp, a lot. It avoids soooooo many stuns. My fire/kin troller and Corruptor both used fighting pool to do this and never regretted it.

I haven't used Poison ray but I've been using the Tarantula for a while and I loves it. It doesn't seem to die any more than the Phantasm, generally, but it has a bit harder time keeping up since it can't fly. I large team mostly, which tends to leave me spending most of my time re-applying debuffs rather than maintaining an attack chain, so I really like the extra hands off damage :P
That build looks pretty killer with the Alpha Slot to fill in the damage slotting. I didn't go nearly so heavy on the defense since I have super tanks and lots of debuffs but it doesn't look like you really gave anything up for it except lots of moneys. -
I based most of my build on your guide, so first, thank you! I haven't read through the whole thread but I wonder if you've considered the pets from the villian epic pools? I thought, with the amount of recharge you're already building for perma PA and the lack of a spammable aoe control the pet might be better than fireball but I don't know if it's actually more damage over time or not.
This is the build I finished recently with only about 1.5 seconds downtime on the tarantula.

I haven't tried soloing any AV's yet, just the alpha slot arc, a couple ITF and a Lady grey since I finished it but seems pretty effortless. I went with the Cardiac in the alpha slot for now.
Edit: one note the PFF is actually Focused accuracy, unfortunately. Mids hasn't changed that yet. -
Necromancy can just be in the blood. What's the opposite of necropheliac? Necropheliaced?
My idea was someone the dead just rose and followed around protecting (maybe a spell of protection by a loopy voodu grandmother). He or she would be totally freaked out, mad, grossed out, exasperated at them and keep trying to light them on fire to get rid of them (necro/thermal).
I don't think I'll ever play it though, because those sets would be soooo much work together; bubbling plus healing plus buffing plus positioning melee pets :P -
You're looking for a Bots/Trap Mastermind I think. If you only play Blue you could wait for going rogue, but if you want an overpowered techno lightshow of forcefields, lasers, acid morters, seker drones, flamethrowers, and poison gas, to go with your caltrops and trip mines, that's what you're lookin' for.
-
I would go with QS. QS -def means you don't have to put any accuracy into Volcanic Gasses before you get a set in it, just 3 rech and 3 hold. So awesome. And when VG isn't up plop EQ on it and the enemies are To Hit debuffed, def debuffed, slowed and falling over, before you ever stick your head around the corner. And, with storm, you'll be able to drop FR on top of them also for further silliness.
Oh, and both of your immobalize's have -fly so that's not really an issue for you either.
Edit: I second skipping Thunderclap. You have so much control with those sets you'll forget about stalagtites half the time, let alone a mag 2 followup. Bosses will be held and debuffed through the floor anyway. Maybe pick up haste? -
I'm all for a change. Especially a change that would make it work with claws . . . Bruty crystal claws!

I second that a purple is almost gaurenteed on the team if you kill all the ambushes. We had one person get 2 once and had someone get one every time we did it that way, about 10-12 times I'd say. My favorite toon for it is my fire/kin corr who's softcapped to S+L. It's seriously Fulcrum heaven
That's one of the most fun fights in the game I'd say just for the endless waves!

60 month here. Came in just before i3.
My first toon was an Ice/energy blaster named Silvernail who I abandoned at 16 and switched to a DM/regen scrapper, Blacktom that I played to 50 on Liberty before I moved to Virtue. I have dragged them over now with server transfers for old time sake but I don't really play them, though I have gotten Silver to 40 and will probably get him to 50 with a few ITF's someday. I don't really like /regen anymore for scrappers so I'll probably never IO Blacktom out but I can't remake him; he's got history :P
I guess that makes it a "no" to do I play the same toons from when I started, though I have "sort of" played them again with a DM/SR stalker, and a Fire/elec blaster that gave really similar play style experiences but much much better for whatever reason; I'm better, the game is better, the sets were a better fit, all of the above.
It's hard to pick a favorite build, as I have quite a few 50's I still love to play but it's definitely corruptors and controllers that are my favorites now depending on villian or heroside, with Kinetics and Radiation secondaries.
After leveling 3 kinetics to 50 I finally got the hang of it and now my fire/kin (softcapped to S+L) corruptor, Sleeka, is my favorite villian with my AR/rad, Gamma Ray Bill, a close second; both are awesome team support with boatloads of aoe damage, and very survivable.
Hero side my favorite toon is Bothari, my BS/shield scrapper who I spent a fortune on, or any of my controllers. -
I did this close to your build just shifting a few slots and building it out to 50. This is focused on getting some defense, particularly ranged, and not using anything to super expensive.

That would give 32% ranged def with maneuvers going. You could get a bit more if you work in combat jumping, maybe in place of aim with another 2 zepher pieces. You don't really nead the damage buff since you'll rely on FS, and with 57% global acc buff plus crazy defender tactics running you wont be missing. Mass Hypnosis is cool for a Kin because you can sleep the spawn with no aggro and FS without waking em up then Nuke at your leasure
edit- yuk! looks like I used the wrong forum exportNot sure which to use now

The playerbase that identifies as 'masterminds' are unique creatures that don't seem to realise they probably don't want to draw serious dev attention.

lol yah this. Still /rad or /sonic would be very welcome -
There is no End drain from fire; fire's secondary effect is more damage.
That said, it's the best sustained pure damage dealer bar none imo. Well ok its not THE BEST aoe you can get with Elec secondary but it probably is the best single target damage you can get and the AOE from fire alone, even without aoe in the secondary, is still murderous.
Elec fence is fine. Standard immobalize with ok damage early and always usefull since you can use it mezed.
What makes the combo so killer is really power sink giving just about unlimited endo combined with a pure ton of the fastest, hardest hitting attacks in the game.
This combo is my only 50 blaster so I might be biased -
Bot/traps is a fun MM but a little gimpy damage wise before you get to 32. A corruptor might be ideal for you. Ice or fire/dark is great and anything with /Rad is awesome. My fave is my AR/rad; Aoe death machine with comprehensive debuffs, a decent heal, the most comprehensive one click team buff in the game, and a tire 9 attack that wont detoggle your debuffs.
-
When in doubt eat more lucks. Of course there was the time my 45 storm/dark was trying to solo the Psi clock king EB and he killed me 8 times in a row, the last time with 7 lucks before I could even finish dropping my initial debuffs on him. Sometimes you're just cursed.
I can't tell if you're Mind/fire or plant/fire from your post but if Mind can't you just confuse the EB? My Mind/rad troller could solo anything with that since it's non aggro and so easy to stack, plus if I needed more damage I could just "borrow" a nearby boss or Lt from the EB's group. -
With 3, +3 so's or level 40 IO's in all your def powers, weave and combat jumping you still need a steadfast +3%def (in tough) and a gausians set in buildup or similar power to softcap. That's the cheapest and simplest way I think, though I suppose you could get some combo of hover, stealth, or maneuvers if you dont care about endurance at all :P If you want to go a more expensive route you can even skip weave and make up the diference with Zepher sets (aoe and range def), Touch of death and obliteration (melee def), scirroco's dirvish (aoe def), thunderstrike and red fortune (range def) etc.
-
Mind Control with a resist debuff or damage buff is one of the easiest soloers in the game I think. I didn't even take the aoe sleep on my mind/rad and never felt any need for a pool attack. Mag 4 sleep and levitate slotted for damage, hold slotted normally, and confuse were plenty of damage to take down all the downgraded EB's solo and plenty fast, and those are your first 4 powers in mind.

He did say he was kidding. Anyway my problem with the prevolent farms is that the temptation of the unbalanced rewards has removed tons of players who I liked to team with from the game that I play. They might as well be playing WoW and I miss them. To bad for me.

Has anyone got an actual argument for a high recharge on rest?
[/ QUOTE ]
as i already said on page 2 lol
as for making rest not have a recharge though i think that whould be a bit overkill especially in teams where 7 members could cover for you drawing agro from the GM or AV while you rotated so eveyone had full end all the time.
if you want rest to come up faster sacrafice slots to it (hell even slot interupt reduction in it to rest 'n' run without waiting as long for rest to take effect
[/ QUOTE ]
Sorry missed that one, but it's a rare AV fight when anyone needs to rest in my experience, and any team that needed to do that would be far from efficient, much less overpowered. As for and slotting rest, that would be silly; by the time slots have a real effect on anything you have stamina and rarely ever use rest again. We were taking pre 20. -
I can't think of a situation where rest would prevent a trip to the hospital any way, unless you were forced to attack the next spawn in 30 seconds ready or not. If you have aggro of any kind it's either impossible (interupt) or suicidal (high def can prevent interupt but then you have -10000 def and resist).

Has anyone got an actual argument for a high recharge on rest?

I'm used to the way it is but I honestly can't think of any purpose at all served by limiting the use of rest. I think it's recharge is an artifact of some of the floundering, clumsy design of time sinking early in the game's history, like the "run all over the city for 20 minutes between missions at level 5" legacy contacts almost no vet will touch any more in favor of sewer teams, the MA, or, IMO much worse, PL'ing every toon they make to at least 20.
They've given us many many tools to reduce or bypass most of that mess from temp travel powers, vet attacks, radio missions, etc., since there are a million and one more ways for us to spend time in the game now that are actually fun instead of artificial make work. I think rest's recharge is an artifact of obsolete thinking. -

Awwwww, c'mon. No one wants to show off their knowledge and tell me what buffs Voltaic Sentinel inherits?
[/ QUOTE ]
VS should still inherit damage buffs. Can't think what else could be relevant to it.
It seems to me Mind link and vengeance are a different in that recharge reduction gotten into them via IO's is only working in one way; to reduce the recharge of the power, the same as SOs work in the pet summons.
It seems obvious the recharge IO's weren't working as intended when recharge enhancement from SO's and (I think) basic IO's never carried over.
This fix still makes me sad because it closes a door on some possibilities. Intended or not, it had people working on projects to make toons with Storm, gun drone, elec blast, traps, whatever, lategame IO uber and now they wont. -
Bosses seem the biggest cowards. Unless it's them acting to smart. We've been running a MM heavy team lately and they really seem to actively try to pull pets to aggro other mobs. Range heavy bosses Like Longbow Officers and CoT mages always run to max range if they can which is understandable, if annoying but melee heavy bosses often act like they're tanks trying to herd pets and ranged attacks into other groups.

Oh, I'm getting the old Scrapper itch again; anyone talking about "brute lock" yet? Or maybe "Smash Lock" setting in
With my old DM/Regen scrap I used CJ+hurdle for really fast smashing in a crowd. Just hit your target nearest+follow bind button (mines mouse shoulder) and hit jump as needed. It's really fast and looks cool as hell.
