1. I was able to do this for a bit more than 150mil. soft-capped smashing and lethal starter build on the cheap if this helps or gives you any ideas.

There are a few recipes you'll find are sort of expensive, so be patient when buying them to get the best price. place bids for recipes and salvage and wait a day or two for them to fill before raising your buying price at all.

I was tinkering around with this build to see what could be done for someone getting to 50 that can't afford the LoTG or the Basilisk's which add a nice amount of recharge but not defense.

This is a version of the build that I am trying which is also soft-capped using mostly yellow recipes to reduce overall cost. The Kinetic Combat and Steadfast Protection IOs were the most expensive part and are essential to the build, so they stayed in.

3. As I understand it, the auto-sk/exemp will be to the mission holder, or team leader if out of mission. In the case of a TF/SF, I would assume that means team leader, who is also leader of the TF/SF, so yeah....make sure they are not level 10
4. I like Earth/Thermal myself. Everything else mentioned thus far is good as well though.

Earth/Thermal plays more team support and you will never, ever need any other support character to carry a team if you play it well. Tons of control, shields, heals, buffs, debuffs.

Earth/Rad, Earth/TA, Earth/Storm, and Earth/Sonic would all be top choices as well. I've seen a few Earth/Empathy, but if you want support I feel Earth/Thermal is about the best there is in this game.

So I finally, over 2XP weekend, got my Grav/Storm up to level 39, and I have to say that he is actually a lot of fun, mostly as a solo character. Crushing Field + Freezing Rain provides a part-time knockdown field. Hurricane lets me focus on one foe at a time while the others get blown around. Tornado adds damage and chaos, and Lightning Storm adds even more. (Added to this is that the character amuses me -- he is a French Mime, with all the sillyness that suggests.)

That being said, I don't think I would want to level up another Grav character. Wormhole and Singy are pretty cool, but the rest of the set I still find lacking. Storm makes it quite interesting, but I'm not sure other secondaries would be interesting at all.
Gravity/TA is also quite good. I agree that it takes a good secondary to make Gravity fun though... I wouldn't have thought /Sonic would pair well with Gravity.
6. I'm having the same issue and was wondering if it was a known issue that they are working on fixing. Can still right-click to get info, but it makes buying DO or SO enhancements at a store a lot slower process.
7. Any news on when this will be fixed for stores?

Will there be a free costume change with this release?

I made a character this weekend I would have liked to have use one of the new faces with him.

[/ QUOTE ]

Here's hoping for a free respec. Doms got quite a overhaul and people might want to respec in/out some powers.

[/ QUOTE ]

There will definitely be a free respec with this issue. That's why they made the announcement on Friday to use any previous free respecs you may have had.

Whether the freespec is given today or at some point within the next week or so remains to be seen.

[/ QUOTE ]

Where was the freespec announced? I don't remember seeing one, but I was looking to see if one would be announced...

[/ QUOTE ]

Niviene announced it on 6/26

Ok, I was looking in the "Announcement" section, where it was announced last time. Oh well, missed one, I guess I won't let that happen again.

10. Here's the build I use if that helps out at all, the guide looks great and I will take my time reading through it:

Wonderful guide so far. My build was meant to maximize savings for me while attaining perma-PA, considering I had the LotGs and some others I stripped from my Ill/Storm. So, it's not the definitive build by any means. The level 10 Basilisk's Gaze are there because they were super cheap and picked up for the bonus.
11. Plant is great for Positron.

I wouldn't make that your AV soloing toon, though. I don't know if there are actually any combos other than Ill/Rad that will solo GMs either, but who knows...

Plant is fantastic for AoE and with Seeds, makes Positron TF very easy. Not too much in the area of single target damage though.
12. [ QUOTE ]
I have a flexible concept for a /sonic troller and I'm looking for a primary with a buffable pet(s) to make into a little orange god(s). I will be teaming for the most part, but I play odd hours and am sure that a good chunk of my time will be solo so I'm looking for the pet and works best with the /sonic playstyle.

[/ QUOTE ]

For this, I would personally recommend Earth/Sonic and checking out HotButteredSoul's Guide on the subject

Also, be sure to pick up a pool attack like AS or Jump Kick to help with the damage while you solo, and you won't regret it.
13. [ QUOTE ]
is being the best healer equal to being the best debuffer or buffer?

[/ QUOTE ]

Buff/Debuffs rule this game. Heals are nice but not needed as much in the higher levels. So, the term "healer" doesn't really apply in this game as much as others. I would play what's fun for you
14. <QR>

That's a debate that I won't get started one way or the other really...

Defenders primary powersets will buff allies and/or debuff enemies. Many of these powersets are available as secondaries for Controllers. Since Defenders are primarily the buff/debuff AT, the values you will get from these powers will be higher as a Defender.

Defenders secondary powerset is a "blast" set that will add additional damage and generally have secondary effects that help you with your primary job (Defending the team).

Controllers primary powerset is control oriented, which will allow you to mitigate damage done to yourself and your teammates while the enemies are defeated.

I would not recommend comparing Defenders and Controllers to "Priests, Healers, Enchanters, etc..." from other MMO games, as they play quite differently in CoH. I never like playing a "mez" character in other games (i.e. Enchanter) but absolutely love playing Controllers.

That all said, I would vote Earth/Thermal Controller for pure support, if your main concern is keeping your team alive. That's just my preference and opinion of course
15. I also love Trick Arrow as a secondary. It's the only secondary until now I have been able to pair with Gravity and enjoy.

Gravity also lacks in certain areas as a primary, but the synergy with Trick Arrow is wonderful. I can hover at range above the fray and keep everything locked down.

I still haven't had the chance to try the level 35 and 38 powers, but I've heard good things and expect them to be good along with Gravity's other late blooming area control.
16. [ QUOTE ]
Grav/TA looks good on paper

[/ QUOTE ]

Grav/TA has been great up to 26 so far. Since Gravity lacks AoE control until later in the build, it's nice to be able to use some of TA's single target control early to stack or cycle, so you can control more baddies at the same time.

It makes for a "clicky" combo, as there is always a power you will want to use or queue up. I don't like Propel or Lift for the most part, so I tend to cast, tab, cast, tab between immobilize and hold powers and can easily control one spawn at a time without using wormhole. I can also use Ice Arrow and GD to lock down a boss right away.

I am expecting this to get a lot better as Wormhole gets fleshed out with more slots and I pickup Oil Slick Arrow. Between Wormhole, OSA, and two ranged AoE Holds, there should be plenty of controls in the higher-end build.

So, Grav/TA is sufficiently powerful in the low to mid levels from my experience (not as powerful as some of my other controllers), and feels more like a "real controller" from a thematic and playstyle standpoint.
17. My 2 cents with a quick glance, Powerforge, is you can skip or put off Repair until the end of the build if you take it.

Your level 1 heal is arguably the best in the game
18. Roots also does double the damage of other set's AoE immobilize powers. It also sets up containment for itself, so spammed, makes for nice AoE damage.

Storm is great, as Freezing Rain debuffs defense and damage resistance, effectively increasing the damage you get out of confused mobs and Roots.

I've heard alot of good stuff about Plant/TA as well, for similar debuffing reasons.
19. I'm open to a high end build within reason. I can't afford to purple out these two toons by any means. The powers that only have common IOs are to max whatever needs to be enhanced in that power (that I won't get from outside buffs all the time), like damage or defense/resistance. The set IOs I have there now are primarily there because the bonuses gave me some melee, ranged, or AoE defense, but I might benefit from more expensive sets I didn't consider the first time through.

I guess I'm not sure what to go for in a high-end build. I need soft-capped defense, primarily. I will have plenty of accuracy with two tactics and fortitude. Plenty of recharge with Adrenaline Boost and near-perma Hasten (although more recharge is always better I guess). Gobs of endurance recovery and regen with both AB and both RAs (which, staggered will be perma also).

I do want to find a way set IOs can improve this build and I am thinking defense and +damage or any ways to fit more single target or AoE damage. Boxing (double damage while contained) is my main single target damage power right now, so I was hoping the procs would help in that regard, since it's up every second or two and can be spammed.

So, yeah, I'm actually looking for a way to spend more money in this build, but not really sure what I could improve on.
20. Greetings,

My wife and I have finally made 38 on our Fire/Emp duo and I thought it was about time to look into an end-game build. I am thinking AV hunting is probably not possible from a DPS standpoint, even as a duo. Not really a problem, as we enjoy teaming more than anything, and that is where these toons seem to excel. Destroying 8-man spawns.

Survivability is not an issue now, but I would like to make it better. We are sitting at 36.6% defense-to-all in our current build, but with sets it shouldn't be that hard to soft-cap.

The build I've been working on just seems sloppy to me. I know in my head I don't need to slot for certain things, like accuracy, recharge, or endurance reduction. We will always have Adrenaline Boost, Fortitude, Recovery and Regeneration Aura on each other at all times, as well as double tactics and maneuvers. So, I'm not sure where I might be wasting slots.

If anyone here can make some suggestions on how I can make better use of any of these slots, please do. I don't want to spend all of my influence on these builds (since there are two of us), but we could probably spend up to 500mil each if we needed to.

Thanks in advance.

21. Combine the decent damage with controller's containment, and it becomes a must-have for many of my controller builds.
22. If it helps at all, this is what I am doing with mine.

The Basilisk's Gaze sets are low-level (I picked em up cheap), so I had to count on global recharge and two common IOs to round out those hold powers.

This build is almost complete, although some of the recipes still need to be crafted. No big hurry as my newer Illusion/Rad is still level 27 I think...
