I highly doubt they'll make it not work on pseudopets... that would remove Interface from a large swath of powers, something they clearly do NOT want to happen (they've already made sure it was working correctly with pets).

Moving it in line with other procs seems much more likely.

DoT or rain powers are generally useful enough on their own to use them, so even a proc in line with 10 seconds isn't going to be bad: that's gravy on top of a good thing, like Interface is supposed to be. I'm still going to enjoy how it works even if it is adjusted (and no, I am not making only characters with Reactive: Diamagnetic and even Gravitic can be useful, depending on what powers or characters they are paired with).

  4. Just to round things out and re-emphasize... I'm not bothering with the trials on any of my characters until they are done with their alpha slot, which is the rare level for most of them. Being only -3 really helps, versus -4 (and even then, my Blaster without any buddies can get hurt in the Lambda warehouse/lab runs).

Also, be really careful of how you engage your foes... as someone with control powers, make sure you fire those before they can see you: if they see you before you use your mass control, their alpha will still hit you... and that will hurt on any squishy, not matter what you hear the braggarts say in the forums or on channels.

Last but not least, do NOT go it alone, even if you are used to it (at least until you get all your level shifts). For most of the trials, you will be working in a larger group and you may not notice this, but the mobs in these things are designed to at least challenge a group of Incarnate shifted people. You alone are much, much weaker than that, no matter how bad you think you are. Lambda makes this point clear for you, as people tend to race about too much in the warehouse. Running together in groups and attacking crates together is much more helpful than going it alone.

Case in point, my Tank had a harder time on this portion of Lambda, and I was getting annoyed about it. Then he started getting more powers and it was much easier... Diamagnetic's -to hit made a huge difference for his survivability, and then Barrier and level shifts make death much more rare. I still have to make sure not to take on too many mobs at once, though. These things are supposed to be a challenge, so take care with your tactics and work with your team.

Lots of overused characters with crappy costumes:
Overdrive, Polar Shift, Silent blade, Doc Quantum, Blast Furnace...

And lots of underused ones, cool looking with nice lore behind them:
Maelstrom, Desdemona, Belladona Vetrano, Mirror Spirit, Foreshadow...
Blast Furnace actually looks pretty cool up close, at least on my graphical settings (some Ultra stuff on, some not). The fiery elements with the metal looks nice, at least to me. I would agree that the others could use a little tweaking, though.

Yeah, when I read Stardust and saw the movie it was based on, I somehow heard he lived in Minnesota (and seems to like it a lot, from comments he has made). Woo! Now if I can only make it as a writer...

For anyone that likes Gaiman and wants to see his fairly humorous response to a Republican in the Minnesota State Senate calling him a "pencil-necked weasel," check out these two links. Minnesota has an arts fund drawn from local taxes and those funds MUST be spent on the arts, and some legislator got annoyed that some of those funds were used to pay Gaiman to speak at a local library. Even though... that's what those funds are supposed to be spent on (and he even donated them to a few different needy places).

GL looks to be a big actiony special effects movie.

I don't think the general movie going public really knows of Chris Hemsworth (sp?) the actor, just yet. Personally I thought he did an awesome job, but he lack name recognition.

RR on the other hand...he may not be one of the big HUGE names, but he's more known for sure.

Of course if the movie sucks (I'll see it anyways I'm sure) well then...but I really don't think it will be that bad.
Of course, some of that can hold against it... I personally dislike Ryan Reynolds in the few roles I've seen him in (and I hate his acting in any preview I have seen), and he seems to be the same Ryan Reynolds in the GL role as he is in every other movie I have seen him in.

Not sure about Hemsworth, but I doubt he has been very "Thor" in most of his roles.

And I dunno... Thor seems a very different superhero movie compared to others out there (just in background, etc.), whereas GL just seems... more of the same, at least from previews I have seen.

Brannagh to direct for 3D is really playing against his strengths.
A few critics rather agree with that, and seemed to like the middle earth stuff more than the action things. Although, some of that seemed to stem either from the dim due to 3D stuff, or whatever was wrong with some projector copies. I worry a bit about how well lit my theater (unless I wait for DVD) will have things lit for the darker areas, but hopefully it will be okay.
  10. I am a pretty heavy reader, but I am in need of some lighter fare to go along with my readings of Dostoevsky, Beowulf, etc. I have wanted to dig into Neil Gaiman's and Terry Pratchett's works more, but I haven't been quite sure where to start. Luckily, I have a forum of fellow geeks to help me.

So that's where you come in. What should I read of these two authors? A few things to help out: I do like fantasy and sci-fi (I like Tolkien and Robert Jordan, Orson Scott Card and Timothy Zahn), but I'm not as much of a horror fan (though I can enjoy thrillers and some Stephen King). I think Gaiman has some in this category, but let me know if I'm wrong. Also, I did read Gaiman's Stardust, and enjoyed it quite a bit. I know Pratchett's Discworld stuff are things I should read, but I wasn't at all sure where to start. Is there a book that begins it all best? Also not sure if he has other books that are worth getting into.

I know both are pretty prolific, so even an idea of their best or places to start would be helpful.

Ummm, okay. A lot of people liked the characters in SG:1 and SG:A. I don't like Atlantis as much as SG:1, but some of the characters are fun. There is a lot less support for Universe's characters, whether you like it or not.

The writers of Universe purposely went as far from those other shows as possible... which could have been a good thing, but dark and gritty for the sake of that doesn't work all that well. You can reinvent a sci-fi series, as Star Trek shows, but you can't make it too different from the original, or you lose fans. And you still need characters that you like.

I don't think I had ever heard of Firefly until it was off the air, and when you look at the airdates for the episodes, it's no surprise the thing was canceled. Things were shown out of order and not on the same day of the week, and with that show, some of the episodes should be seen in order to appreciate them more (and heck, that's the same for most shows that are good).

I'd be fine with the "Reality" TV hell of the summer if we actually had regular shows consistent during the rest of the year. No mid-season breaks, no shuffling around... give a show an honest chance and then dump it. Even if you only gave it half a season in the first place, let those 12 or so eps run at a consistent time.

    Tough hide..?

*shrugs* I'd rather take Hurl than any of the APP attacks. Much more fun and visceral animation.

Ranged attacks for my Tanks are more for dropping low health runners, getting attention beyond me if I don't feel like using Taunt, and for fun. Hurl works just fine for all those, and its damage isn't that bad. Great finishing move, too.

Yeah, Victory Badges is full and will stay that way until they get the channel timeout feature working. Not sure why they implemented that and then haven't followed through on its bugs, but hey... par for the course with some issues in game.

VB 2009 I usually use for team forming, though it can get chatty from time to time... I'd say Victory Forum is the chattier of the two (imagine that). Depending on when you play, you should see a lot of team stuff forming in VB 2009.

    Welcome to Victory.

That's what I hate about network TV... shows come and go randomly and there are huge mid-season breaks. I'm actually enjoying Parenthood on NBC quite a bit, but wanted to get caught up on reruns (believe it or not)... yet we get a reality show now in that slot, and its finale was in April, of all things.

Shows get moved around constantly and it's hard to enjoy them because of it. Networks really need to give shows some chances and stop shuffling things around so much.

This. Sometimes the game forgets you have epics unlocked and you have to log in with a toon at or above that level to remind it. If it still doesn't let you make a Kheldian, submit a bug report, as that is a bug.

They're more like Gun Drone Masterminds. Maybe something in between would be more reasonable, but I'm not sure how far along the scale.
I'm not sure if you are thinking Malta Engineers just spit it out with no pause, but they don't. Their animation time is much more in line with Voltaic Sentinel, which would pretty good for me with Gun Drone.

Still, both pets run into the issue of needing to be summoned pretty often. A longer duration would make both powers a lot more fun to use, or at least not requiring being on the ground with them. I'd take a shorter animation for Gun Drone, but I'm not going to say it makes it all the way better, either.

I do not know the Thor comic at all, but it's worth noting that there is a crossover in Norse mythology and folklore with Eastern peoples. Atli (Attila the Hun) features prominently in the Neibelingenleid (sp?), as an invader from the east. Not sure how much Marvel borrowed from that to come up with the character, but the connection is there.

I'll have to check this movie out when I can... maybe as a matinee, or when it comes to DVD... don't go to too many movies in the theater lately. Definitely going to go 2D for it: 3D has never seemed worth it.

If one doesn't like the 300+ page book, they stop long before they get to the point where Drizzt and Wulfgar defeat the white dragon.
Actually, I'd define time and effort to be whatever time and effort the writer puts into making the story work. To make a fight or encounter work in a story, there has to be enough believability that whatever macguffin the writer uses will get the job done, and in a realistic way. If Batman is using something to get him to the level of whatever he is facing, it has to be believable.

It also depends on the world, and staying true to the rules of those worlds. In Tolkien's world, for instance, things are pretty consistent. Not much can take on a Balrog except something of the same level of power, ie, Gandalf. Tolkien's big fights also benefit from the commensurate cost of taking on said foe: defeating Melkor in The Silmarillion required supernatural help that changed the shape of the world. Defeating a Balrog or dragon often means a lot of death or damage in the process. Just facing Sauron means the death of mythic heroes that really aren't equaled by any in later ages.

I know there are some that will quibble with Tolkien, but what works for his big fights is that they are believable and consistent in the world he created, and require an immense cost and effort, making them more believable to us.

To go further with your example, Bubba, comics creators also have much less room to make their story believable, so it's easier for them to fall into obvious macguffins like kryptonite always being around for people to use against Superman. A good writer can make that kryptonite use believable, but it is easier for the props and wires to be seen in a comic book, versus a more in depth medium like a book (you see the same issues in book to movie translations). Obviously it's possible, but there's a lot less room for development.

Such as waste of endurance if you get interrupted.
I don't think anyone is going to argue that it should stay the same just for the Defiance boost. It's not a boost that you can keep up often, and I rarely am able to bring out my Gun Drone on a fast moving team... for AV fights, the silly thing will swing into melee range and promptly be smacked down for the exact reason I am staying at range.

I'm not exactly in love with Voltaic Sentinel, but it has a lot more going for it than Gun Drone.
