Lovely. Boards ate my well reasoned post.
Anyway, some great books on that list I have forgotten. I only really read the first three Stainless Steel Rat books (tried a later book where he had kids and it didn't seem right), but it was fun to read. Lot of books like that on the list, though... they're fun, but I don't know if I could put them in the top 100. Seemed like way too much Neil Gaiman for how recent he has been as well... seemed like the majority of his books are on there. I like Gaiman and all, but I wouldn't put so many of his books in a top 100 list.
Some odd missing ones, too. They have CS Lewis's Space Trilogy but not The Chronicles of Narnia, which seems criminal. Same thing for Diana Wynn Jones (I've only read Howl's Moiving Castle, but that is an excellent book) and JK Rowling.
I had some lesser known ones on my list, though. Armor by John Steakley has always impressed me since I heard Orson Scott Card mention it, for instance. Ender's Game had to be on the list, as did LOTR. I wanted to pick an Asimov, but I couldn't choose one (just can never get into him). Fahrenheit 451 was the Bradbury pick for me. Tough to narrow it down, though, that's for sure. -

Rather overpowered if it had happened as well. Inherent Fitness already unlocked a lot of stuff for me to be able to do.
I like that we can get more character slots. *sighs* Aside from Street Justice, I'm not sure what to put my money toward first. Costume packs that I liked but didn't have the cash for? More character slots, since Victory is full up for me (though I am up for a new veteran slot at the end of August... I kind of am hoping I21 doesn't hit before then, though that seems rather evil). -

Quote:I agree entirely. More options and customization is good, but anything that hints at the "pay to win" moniker sticks in my craw.I try not to, as it's usually subject to debate, and it rarely worries me. What does worry me, however, is outclassing others BY FAR, as I mentioned. When you have one character who is clearly and obviously stronger than another only because of what the stronger character has bought off the real money store... That tends to be easier to spot and prove, and that's the sort of thing I don't want.
Basically, I don't want the strongest characters to be the strongest because their owners forked over the most cash. Offering "sidegrade" enhancements that allow for new options but aren't necessarily and visible "better" is a good way to go about it, and if they can stick to just those, I will be very impressed and very happy.
The Brute and Tanker one seem to be relatively thematic, but the rest are less so. I mentioned it elsewhere, but I thought a damage boost of some sort for Blasters (not just a damage proc) would be nice. A bonus to Defiance or greater retention of the damage bonus, for instance. -
Hmmmm, you know one thing I do wish Blasters would get? With these new archetype IO sets, they should not get a damage proc. If Brutes should get a proc that helps their Fury building, Blasters should get one for Defiance damage building (or retaining those bonuses for longer). That would be quite cool.
Outside of Brutes and Tankers, the rest just seemed to get a damage proc, rather than something cooly thematic (even if not everyone likes the +res for Tanks one). -
I'm probably going with the chance for DoT over the -res on my Peacebringer. He's not far enough along to have it slotted yet, however: for some reason, he's been on a lot more BAFs and I had him work on getting Judgement first. So I can't really say how good or great that is. But I figure a damage boost is the nicest thing for him, then the -res. Hearing all this confirms it in my mind more as well, since I have plenty of Achilles slotted.

Be sure to join all our server channels and form teams. Here's the thread I made for all that stuff in case you need it. And welcome back.

I think I like him more than the original Ryxx.
...
I kid, I kid!
I'm not a huge fan of lizards and the like, but he's pretty cool looking, I have to admit. -
I'll throw out Claws/Invuln. Been having a blast with my Scrapper, and the KD/KB in the set can be helpful when facing more exotic damage (I'm building to shore up those weak spots). He's quite tough just on SOs, and has been getting better the more sets I put on him.
I also like the lack of redraw, for the most part. Any sets with powers that you will use in combat often (like the heals for electric and fiery aura) bug me more on weapon sets, since they cause redraw. So I often try to pair my weapon sets with less clicky powersets.
But Claws is pretty fun, if you can get past being able to throw energy or something at enemies with your class. That threw me for a long while, heh. -
Thank you very little, Linarra. I'm sure coz is all happy about that, but I don't think I can even approach the Hive next week now.

Johnny, I know you're all about the Tankers need moar damage, but sets that give more resistance are few and far between: most of them are rare and extremely expensive PVP recipes as well. So when I saw this, I thought it was a nice thing for most of my tanks, most of whom would love to get more resistance (and have also gone Cardiac with their Alpha because of it). Making it a resist to all is even better.
But I rather hope the chance and duration are decent for that proc. It's not the end of the world if you miss out on a damage proc, but a resist proc that has a hard time working is not very worth it.
If anything, I'd say Brutes shouldn't get access to resist bonuses in their set, if their proc is going to improve their offense. Being able to double dip so much has been something of a problem for their balance since their creation.
The sets overall look pretty good. They're not perfect for every powerset in the respective AT, but that's the way it is. I'll still want the Blaster set on a bunch of my blasters, even if the ranged damage isn't a perfect help for my E^3 Blaster. -
Quote:Well, you could come up with another story explanation for the powers you have, especially if you go all human with a Kheldian.Actually, I found my main concern with the WS. Oddly It was not what I thought it would be which was the knockback. I dont find the playstyle dull, and I certainly like the power options. They are interesting.
I generally build fun stories to go with my creation. The problem with a Kheld's is that they are Kheld's.
There is litterally nothing I can do with the story. So, unlike the blaster, of which I have complete story control, I have no control other than how they merged etc.
I think thats why I deleted my last one to be honest.
Although Im going to stick this one out.
As I said, I am so used to my Dom now that a little different playstyle might actually be fun over the frill of story writing.
Even so, the Kheldian story arcs are actually pretty decent. There are interesting things at stake there that most of the rest of the game does not worry about (different focuses, etc.), which I found appealing.
I actually found a fun story context for my Peacebringer. He was an old college professor, and he grew tired of all the troubles facing the city and being able to do nothing about them. Even more so when his favorite student disappeared, and then other students he knew dropped out to find him. That's a dry summary, but I was able to get more poetic with it in his bio, and then he meets a Kheldian.
"And he was no longer alone."
I guess I see the Kheldians rather like the To'Kra on Stargate, where you have a companion with you at all times who understands you perfectly and is your best friend. Think of it that way, and you'll hopefully find a bio.
From the rumors I have heard, now is a good time to roll a Kheldian, but maybe it's me being hopeful. -
Quote:yea i'd feel alot better if they i.e. anyone from the dev team was in here discussing it with us. castle did that with both the SD and FA changes. but thats just me.Quote:I hope "weighing their options" includes looking at the plethora of good ideas and concerns we, the rather well-informed players, have posted on the forums. Honestly, if they make another pass at pb's to fix them and it fails to correct most if not all of the AT's issues, it will likely be the kiss of death for the AT, locked as it will be behind purchasable AT status.
-
Why the heck were they wanting to adjust the CoT? I could understand the Hellions, Gravediggers, or Outcasts, but the CoT really didn't need a new look. They're still one of my favorite villain groups, and are a nice change of pace from the tights look that the one image we can see here. That look is just... depressing.

My issue is the name "Bladed" in "Bladed Justice." Not sure how a made up word even gets caught by their filter. The list in the AE section is full of ridiculous examples like ours.
-
I think I already thanked you for asking, Chad, but in case I didn't: thanks! It's good to know we are at least on the radar... the not knowing anything is killer. As for when it will happen, it's always surprising to me how some power changes can be fit in. I was surprised as all get out when Castle made some awesome changes to Fiery Aura just before Going Rogue came out. So we'll definitely hope for the changes to happen soon.

Dang... wish I had that in a quote from a dev, so I could show off my awesomeness in my signature.
Zam, I'm hoping the devs will have some plan to limit AE use, at least so newbies and RMTers can't bludgeon it too much. But we'll see how they do with it. If Chad's info is right, that could be helpful.
I do wish they would fix their filter, though. That thing is just ridiculous. -
Quote:Eh, I can understand delaying for that. IXP is significantly better now that rewards are spread across a League and they fixed the scaling in the last patch (or two?). Still will take awhile to get the components to fit in those slots, so I don't mind seeing the time balanced between the two.So I take it they didnt want us to have double incarnate exp for this event as it would have been under the current build.
disappointing really as that was the only reason I was looking forward to it this time. Sure its nice to grind up some lowbes during these weekends, but it sure would have helpped to have allowed the incarnate exp to be double as well... ;(
Anyway they are delaying Double XP weekend till Aug 11- 14 now. This is the only reason I can see that they would have had to postpone, as dbl xp has been working normally for a long time in all previous builds. And last one Incarnates were NOT in the equation.
Frustrating. -
Grrr, I don't seem to be getting notifications about posts to this thread, sorry.
A little late now, but the guide does have an SO/regular IO build that should be perfectly solid. It should be based off of what I used to have before IO sets, adjusted for inherent Fitness.
As Robo said, there are some good and cheap sets out there. If you ever want Kinetic Melees for a build but can't afford them, but a set of Smashing Haymaker in (think that's the name). It has the same type of bonuses, just weaker. The costs are also fractional in comparison. It can also be worth saving merits for a big seller on the market and getting a lot of cash from it: getting even 100 mill from something will cover most sets a Fiery Aura tanker could find useful.
I think you're on the right track with taking your time. When I first came back after a break, it was between I9 and I10. I planned a build for GP and could only afford half of it, and worked my way to the rest. He was solid enough beforehand, and filling in the rest just made it better. Fun to see your performance go up like that (kind of like with the incarnate powers)! -
Doh! Sorry, MG. Hopefully you can still make it happen. Even if you can't, I'm sure we can PL you some.
If I'm on that weekend, I may work on getting my Corr up a level or two, or getting my Ill/Rad to 50... he's getting to be more of a pain to solo. Shouldn't have started playing a Claws/Invuln Scrapper... he dices things up so easy he puts most of my other soloers to shame. -
Quote:You're pulling my leg on that last bit, right? If not, that totally ruins my Swedish calm disposition and makes me want to blush.Alright, just got home and am going to pass the **** out in a moment.
I asked Second Measure about Kheldian changes for you, GP. He said they've been having informal discussions about what to do to bring Peacebringers up to par with Warshades, but nothing official is planned yet. They'd like to make changes, but they won't be in Issue 21; however, it's possible they may do so in Issue 22 or maybe even a mid-issue release. (He also mentioned that your posts on the subject are one of the main reasons Khelds are being looked at at all.)
Nice to hear that changes are being discussed. It's been tough having things sit partially done since the I11 changes and not know if anything more is going to happen or even being discussed (kind of like Fiery Aura, but it got changes awhile back). Kheldians have been red-headed stepchildren at times, or so it feels. And it's a shame, they're a great concept and very different from most ATs in CoX.
I wish I had seen that staff video before it was taken down. All the reaction I have heard makes me jealous. If it's anything like I have seen of Street Justice so far, it'll be great!

I think Cobra Strike is a stun, and probably would stay that way if they port it. Eagle's Claw has a stun chance on it, too (or 100%, can't recall off the top of my head), so you'd want that, I would think. I'd also say that I hope Cobra Strike can get some kind of ranged ability or something... a major weakness of stun in EM is that it is not ranged. Probably depends on if the other powers in the set make up for it, though.
Also... I think you have too many attacks. I think most sets with them have two earlier ones and then the big hitter. Not sure what should go... Crane Kick is nice for the KB and does good damage, but Thunder has a chance for stun. Definitely would want to keep Storm Kick. Not sure what to put in its place... cal trops, perhaps... pretty good utility power in Ninjitsu. Perhaps Smoke Flash or something?
The chi ideas are interesting... wonder if they'd let the defense one be a toggle, though. If you are going to balance it out with Stealth and such from Devices, you'll want to make it defense to all, not just S/L. That way it works for a larger variety of build types. Slow resist is probably a little high as well... 20% is the number you usually see get thrown into the powers that offer slow resist (40% is pretty big on its own, and it's not too hard to enhance that after the many winter events over the years). -
Annoying Pokemon kid was prepared earlier for the event. I'll be trying to catch all the Hami goo I can tonight. Squirtle!
