Quote:Yeah only the cost of an ad buy says you can't clean up the images for one of the "I'm a Hero..." ads and run them on a cable network package somewhere. I hear the kids with the MTV and their "Jersey Shores" and their iPadpods have disposable income these days. SciFi (siffy)/Viacom package would be another idea.i think a TV commercial would be awesome
i watch TV whenever im playing cov (which is usually on average 4-14 hours a day, so i see A LOT of commercials)
whenever i see those WoW commercials with mr.t or william shatner, i always imagined how hilarious those would be with a CoX twist lol
another good thing to do is to take a look at Samruaiko's videos for possible commercials (the ones i saw were all good)
(heres some examples)
Dude we're totally GIVING you IDEAS! How awesome is your job, right??? -
Quote:Quick answer: Yes. You might even get people to re-sub that hadn't played the game in months or years. So, do you think if we did more ads in comic books, or had TV commercials, it would be a a lot of bang for the bucks?
In other words, do you think will we get a lot of new subscribers that way?
Sorry, Pebble, I'm late to the posting party and this has probably already been discussed, but many of us forumites feel like Paragon Studios is wasting an obvious marketing niche NOT to run regular, or successive, ads in comic publications.
Now the real question is ROI, so if ads for DC or Marvel books are too high, what about Dynamite Entertainment? Dark Horse? Moonstone? There are plenty of opportunities out there besides "the big two".
Another thing I've been an advocate of is self-promotion. Since my wife and I have been playing, we've been responsible for no fewer than four people playing, three of which continue to play. Look yourself in your new reflective surface and ask yourself how many new players YOU'VE brought to the game. Certainly SOMEONE you know would be nerdy enough to play a superhero computer game with you, right? RIGHT?
Right. -
Quote:Never ran it myself, but my wife and many members of our former SG did. And yeah, at one point they had it down to a science and could finish a CoP mission in about 20 minutes or so. That ALSO meant that we had a nice group of Items of Power which various players would "ooh" and "ahh" over and want you on their team because your bonuses would become theirs too.I ran the Cathedral of Pain while it was live; it was just a really hard trial. With the right resources, it was done in 15 minutes (of course, you had to gather 20 people to run it with). The big deal about it was the Items of Power, which got you great bonuses that could stack (you could have multiple IOPs in a single base) and were given to everybody in the supergroup (so they would be a great supergroup recruiting tool).
If the Cathedral of Pain is brought back with the bases in the current state (ie. not raidable) then it's unlikely it'll grant any item of power, so it's all up to what reward it's replaced with. Merits are the obvious choice.
So to the previous poster who said that the CoP didn't "seem like that big of a deal", it was no bigger deal than any trial or event or TF...except for the bragging rights. Those seemed to be worth fighting for. Maybe CoX could use a little shot of something like that again.
Yeah, I think I'd like to the the CoP trial come back as was. -

Okay all, I gotta say it does my CoX fanboi heart good to hear all the STRONGLY positive comments here. Sure, not everyone likes everything...ya can't please everybody and we ARE a choosy bunch around here, but it sounds like overall the Devs are still comitted to bringing us a game we want to play...though not necessarily always THE game we want to play.
Techbot - You go right on crowin' about revamps. Lots of people have wanted revamps of older content for a while though I think in retrospect we can all see where the dev group have had their own problems until fairly recently. Plus there's still the paradigm of New Content > Old Content. That's a hard one to get over.
I can't wait to dive in, and now that my wife's back from seeing her family maybe we can dive in together.
Yes, my wife plays. She even has TWO accounts.
Yes, I married well...but let's not make this about me. Let's make it about the I17 content, okay?
Okay. -

Quote:DEBUNKED!There are no plans for retiring CoH. This game is still very robust and vibrant, and we're all very excited to be continuing its development.
As the Anniversary title stated, 6 years and going strong.
Hey I've been away for a bit. Good to be back and start catching up. Wuddup peeps? -
Quote:Pft...why hasn't Paragon Studios just hired you already? Sheesh.I personally use Terra Volta for getting badges - Sky Skiffs, Lost bosses, and Freak tanks. But other than that, it's horribly underused. (So is IP for that matter.)
And I agree with Street_Wolf, I would MUCH rather see more content for the existing zones than new zones. I'm sure it'd keep Dr. Aeon, Hero 1, and the rest of the writing team hella** busy from now til forever, but creating new content for the 'forgotten zones' would be a blessing.
The vets would have somewhat of an advantage of knowing the zones, but it would also help the newbies to the game as the vets would also be running the same content at the same time. Even if they added new zone events...
PEREZ PARK/THE HOLLOWS - "Gang War" - the warring factions in the zone are getting out of control, and the PPD/Longbow are being overrun. Intense pockets of fighting must be broken up for things to return to normal (mechanics - the Banners in the Deadly Apocalypse, but more than four occurrences).
STRIGA/TALOS/IP and BOOMTOWN/STEEL - "Blitzkrieg" - the Council (Striga)/the Fifth (Boomtown) are making a massive push out of their constrained zones into Paragon City. Heroes must meet at certain zone points to slow them down. If the heroes beat them back, great - if not, the enemy makes inroads and appear in greater numbers further into the zone. If they make it all the way across, they start appearing in a random adjacent zone. To really make it annoying, major facilities in a besieged zone are shut down (stores, inspiration sellers, radio contacts) because of the Blitzkrieg.
BRICKSTOWN - "Zig Breakout" - the Arachnos Flyer appears over Brickstown to 'break out' several villains. Heroes have to take out the Flyer before the Zig is overrun.
EDEN - "Scorched Earth" - Longbow, with reluctant sanction from Freedom Corps, has decided to take back Eden using a Scorched Earth policy. In a reverse of the Firefighting missions in Steel, heroes actually START fires in Eden to bring the Devouring Earth under control.

All really, really good ideas Michelle, and while it's easy for me not knowing the coding to say they'd be "easy to implement", they certainly stay within the flavor of each zone and expand that taste to a new logical conclusion.
DEVS! SAMURAKIO'S IDEAS...*STAT*!! -
Quote:Hobo - Wife and I are 42 this year. She has two active accounts to my one. I think I've married well.Curious if there are other old farts out there like me.
I am 60 years old, and have loved comics and superheroes since I read my first Superman comic during the Silver Age in the 1950s and watched George Reeves on TV. And in the 60s, I got to see comics evolve firsthand as Stan Lee brought "real" people into the mix. All in color. All for a dime.
Other than a lifelong love affair with comics (and Star Trek, Sci-Fi and Comic Book movies), I have lived a "regular" life. College-educated. Married. Good family life. Terrific white-collar job.
Anyone else out there like me? Or am I as odd as I sometimes think I am? -
Quote:Yeah frankly I can wait 'cause I've got my heart set on the deluxe edition with all the...y'know...STUFF stuff in it. My wife, on the other hand, wants to pre-order for her birthday gift. And who am I to deny my wife on her birthday?I'm one of the people that have prepurchased, but I'm more in agreement with Ravenswing here. I think that the people who don't prepurchase because they aren't really seeing the point in doing so are far less foolish than the people have bought it, and then complained that the devs 'made' them buy something before they knew what was in it.
I just know that I'll almost certainly be very satisfied, regardless of what more is added to what we know.
But naw, I don't get being in a hurry to have the new powers...but that's me. Kudos to those of you who do. -
Flashrains - Yeah, but I'm trying to keep him in Paragon City proper.

Hey all,
I'm just now catching up to this thread. Don't feel that I can add anything new but yes, superheroes as an offshoot of the broader Sci-Fi/Fantasy market are rather a niche prospect, even with the success of the Spider-Man and Batman films of late.
Case in point...I'm a 41 year old that still actively buys and collects comics. Now there's probably more of you than ya might think, but certainly for 41 year-olds overall, I'm in a vast minority. And proud to be that way!
I did want to suggest to those of you who have (correctly) mentioned the lack of meaningful CoX advertising...that perhaps YOU do something to promote the game! F'rinstance, in the 4+ years I've been playing, my wife has two active accounts. I've gotten three friends into the game (only one of which is currently active, but still), and gotten subscriptions for two of my four stepkids. Therefore, my interest in CoX has garnered them three subscrption sales, two CoV Deluxe Edition boxes (one for each of us, natch), and five additional subscription sales with an average subscription time of 5 months.
YOU like the game? YOU wanna promote it? DO it! Take it to the streets, people! Let's grass-roots this mamma-jamma! -
Heroes/Sheroes,
One of my characters is a news anchor in his civilian identity...I was thinking Clark Kent in his WGBS anchorman days just to illustrate a point of reference...and was trying to figure out where in Paragon City a good broadcast station might be for him to be based.
I know there're red and white broadcast towers in Skyway and Talos...but I'm open to suggestions. Anyone? -
SS,
My canine sidekick belonged to the wife first, but quickly warmed up to me so I knew marriage was a good idea since I was doggie approved!
Unlike our Aristotle, your Buddy was a happy fate for you, and I wish you both many adventures. I'm hero enough to say "I love my doggy", and I'm sure you'll love yours too.
Away! -

I'm a little late for the "pile on the newb" party, but WELCOME Syfy! Glad to have you here. Remember, we were ALL n00bz at one point, so don't be shy about asking about anything that comes up. The dumbest question is the one you DON'T ask. -
Quote:That was GOOD. Thanks for both making it and sharing.Hey all,
I actually made this a some months ago but only recently discovered this thread hope you enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNAa8...e=channel_page

Spirit of 76, Homefront and Stars and Stripes
Silver Eagle, Liberty's Shield and Shooting Star
Author's Note- None of these character's appear in the arc. I may at a later date do an arc featuring them.

Do it. DOOO EEET. I'm a SUCKAH for Golden Age patriotic heroes and...well I think something involving a time trip back to 1942 might be a fun idea for characters like Stars and Strip. Er, I mean STRIPES...Stripes. Yeah.
(P.S. - Do it.) -

On my main server (Infinity FTW!), Johnny Lightning acts as mentor/big brother figure to most of the heroes under him. Mostly because Johnny was my first ever character. I see everyone else as learning the ropes, dealing with/being introduced to contacts through him, that sort of thing.
Oddly enough, my villain characters are mostly independant. Go figure! -
Quote:D_R: That is OSSOM. Felicia was quite the sweetheart to her fans at Dragon*Con last year, and was rather impressed at the number of CoX folks she met (yes, she knows our little superhero game!).OH HELL YEAH, BABY! Just posted on the YouTube comments:
GO ME!
EDIT: *deafening shout* And she even Favorited it!

Good on ya for writing. As commented above, you've echoed a lot of statements from the rest of us who're too lazy to type out as you've done.
See you around the City... -
Michelle,
Another winner as usual. Thank you! -
