  2. Wait DXP Wkd has been delayed ... will that buy us enough time to see the release of WM/SD before the rescheduled DXP?
  3. Am I the only one who is roundly disappointed that we appear to be getting a Double XP weekend before I can roll a WM/SD scrapper?

Aside from Divine Avalance and it's + Defense ability, every attack within Katana can take that proc and it will be constantly applied. 20% more damage SOME of the time doesn't compare well to +40-60% damage MOST of the time.
Well you can put the Fury of the Gladiatory proc in either Spin or Evis?

Most top Kat-chains I've seen (GC-SD-GC-GD or the longer one) generally (in my exp) only slot one Achilles Heel -RES (and some put the Glad - RES) as well.

Well that Fury of the Gladiator -RES proc has been sitting in my tray waiting to go somewhere ... and where better than Crowd Control
  7. I wish they would just out and tell us the specs of these sets already, arg.

I was already contemplating a WM/SD scrapper. But now I have to think about Street Justice too. And I have a bunch of toons to remake if it ends up being a good set. Basically right now my rotation of FM/Inv Brute, DM/SD scrap, Claws/SR brute, MA/SD scrap is already too much ....

Looks like about 165. Still, that's just for 15 seconds. So time averaged would only bring you down to about 194. You aren't taking time to heal because of regeneration. You don't have Practiced Brawler slowing you down. I assume you aren't using other clicks or inspirations or anything else that would take time.

So I'm not sure why I'm calculating almost 15 more DPS than you're seeing in game. It's certainly possible that I have something wrong in my calculations.
Hey Werner. Thanks for checking. There may have been some misclicks etc that contribute to real performance being below what you calculate, but I remember definitely not being impressed by hitting around 180dps.

I think I filled the hasten-down gap by using Slice (the aoe cone) as a filler attack waiting for GD?

I started as close to 75% as I could. Other details in the other post (link).

    • +10.5% damage from Assault
    • Gaussian proc
    • Build Up recharges in 26.09
None of those are magic alone (except arguably the Achilles' Heel), but it all adds up. For the sake of argument, I'm going to remove the Gladiator's Fury proc, Assault, set damage, and the extra proc in Soaring Dragon. We still have the purple procs, the Achilles' Heel, and the fast Build Up recharge, so we're still decently-slotted, and better slotted than many builds. Now I'm at 200 DPS. So there's 40 DPS right there. Heck, if I gut everything but the Build Up recharge, we drop to 160 DPS, so another 40 DPS. So in a sense, 80 DPS is procs, Assault and set bonuses. 1/3 of the damage is procs, Assault and set bonuses. So yeah, they can make a big difference.

It appears I didn't deduct for Practiced Brawler activation time, but did for Hasten. I'm sure that was intentional, but I'm not sure WHY. On brief glance I was consistent with that. That would probably drop it by maybe 4 DPS? It might have had something to do with my time frame, since I wasn't shooting for sustainable endurance, but then why would I deduct for Hasten? Anyway, that's arguably a calculation error, and would be for pylon soloing, say, which is what we're often comparing against these days. You'd also need to factor in healing time with pylon soloing, but not including healing time isn't a bug in the calculations, just something to keep in mind for some real world applications of the DPS. In others, like a Tanker-taunted AV, it wouldn't be a factor.

Edit: If you'd like, I could calculate the DPS for your build using my spreadsheet, and see how close I come. My guess is that if 180 DPS is your pylon DPS, I'd calculate something more like 190 DPS in the spreadsheet. It might give some idea not the margin of error, but the difference in the things being compared (theoretical max DPS vs. observed in the real world on real computers while healing damage, clicking Practiced Brawler, occasionally making mistakes in the chain, and so on).

Or maybe I'd see a surprisingly high number, and it might suggest that I have a problem somewhere.
Here's the build I was running.

    • purple proc and debuff proc in Gambler's Cut
    • purple proc (Armg set) in Golden Dragonfly
    • NO damage procs in Soaring Dragon
    • +7.5% damage from sets
    • Gaussian Proc in build up
    • Build Up recharges in 27 secs with hasten up (131 secs)
That's with an E/N soft-cap (L/M with Divine Av), and 626% regen. So definitely it was a mix of trying to build for DPS and survivability. Just surprised it made such a difference (60 dps).

  11. Did 2 pylon runs to confirm my DPS on my Claws/SR brute. running about ~190dps.

That's below what Claws scraps were getting. So I still think for single-target, Brute claws falls behind?

Mids reports cast time as 1.452 using the Aracnatime option.

The question is, is the DPA that much better than Cobra Strike if you purple it like you suggested? Will check in game.

    Games says
Fire Blast - lvl 50 scrapper
    55.45 avg dmg
    46.21 Dmg per Activation Time
which it parses as 45.60 fire dmg and 4 ticks of 80% chance for 4.17 fire dmg

Cobra Strike - lvl 50 scrapper
    122.62 avg dmg
    73.43 dmg per activation time

Sounds like a fun chain but I know my own MA scrapper could never pull it off while keeping all the defense I want.
RedTomax has FireBlast (Scrapper epic) at 1.32 dmg but Cobra Strike at 2.058. Does the purple proc really make up that difference?

Assuming it was properly marked as a pre-incarnate time, BrokenPrey did 220 on his Katana/Super Reflexes in the pylon thread. I don't see 240 DPS on a non-incarnate Katana, but I believe it's possible based on the calculations. So unless you see an error in the calculations, yes, I think it's fair to say that Katana can get 240 DPS.
    .
I'd really want to understand what other +dmg effects and procs were running, either though IO bonuses or Assault etc. Because honestly how can maybe adding the Fury -RES proc make that much difference in dps? I mean, a chain is a chain -- if you can run the GC-SD-GC-GD chain, what could be causing a variance of +/- 40dps (assuming pre-incarnate).
  15. So here is my Claws/SR brute. I was getting 187-188 dps tops, on the pylon test. It might have been held back by a tiny little delay in FU recharge, though in MIDS it shows being able t run FU-Focus-Slash (repeat) without problems.

Similar Scrapper builds appeared to be getting higher DPS. Which is why I'm surprised everyone here is talking about how much better Claws are for brutes. Maybe that's accounting for Spin and other attacks that are not in my chain?

Maybe the optimal chain for Brutes is not FU-Focus-Slash? Especially given what people are saying here about certain brute attacks for Claws having been given higher base dmg?

Anyway I'm open to suggestions as I haven't played this guy much since feeling that his DPS fell behind his Scrapper counterparts. Even my FM/INV brute was getting higher DPS (~195).

I think one problem is the radius feels small. Especially compared to things like Footstomp or even Fireball from epics.

I only had DT and Shield Charge on my MA/SD, and it didn't feel like I could chain enough AOE so I added Fireball and now there is a killer 3-aoe chain after which DT has recharged.
  17. Given the best I could pull out of a Kat/WP running a chain of GC-SD-GC-GD with the -RES achilles (missing the Glad proc) was around 180dps while maintaining reasonable levels of survivability (which still weren't that great, but like 600% regen and maybe S/L softcap) on a build a ways back, is it really fair to be saying Kat can get 240dps? (pre musc)

Is that with some crazy chain like GC-SD-GD repeat that can't exist on "normal" builds?
  18. FWIW without reading the whole thread I will say that for single-target DPS, my Claws/SR brute underperformed Claws/SR scraps on the pylon test. This largely (I believe) was due to the +dmg buff of follow-up being significantly lower on Brutes and also the lack of criticals (post Fury nerf, crits pull ahead). Best I could get was around 180dps.

Chain was FU-Focus-Slash [repeat] with standard proccing.

So while Spin may be better on a Brute, ST dps falls behind the scrap afaik.
  19. Here's my FM/Inv brute. Was getting 195dps on pylons pre incarnate stuff. Chain is Gloom - Incin - Crem - FS. Went FM because Fury on brutes boosts the DOT.

Extremely survivable. DM/INV is stronger but I have a DM/SD already.

But if you're going for strict "Darkness" powers, then a Dark/Dark/Dark defender is an amazing thing.

Dark Armor is my favorite of any armor set. I've had great success with a Dark/Fire Tank, a Claws/Dark Brute, and now a Spines/Dark Stalker. I'm going to complete my tour with a Dual Blades/Dark Scrapper.
Warshades don't have mez protection outside of Lobster Form, right? That always spoiled them for me.
  22. MA/SD is way fun. I have posted some builds recently.

Linea -- Plant/Fire/Fire is crazy good, the brute of Doms. Starts strong and stays so. You could go Plant/Fire/Ice for Sleet and S/L def, but honestly Embrace of Fire plus Fireball/ROF is insanely good (plus Roots to hold them all in the burning mayhem).

Here's an older build -- I've subsequently re-slotted Roots for damage and procs (Posi Blast and procs).

  24. Check the scrapper forum -- Iggy posted his build a ways back and it spurred some discussion, lots you can steal from there for Brutes.
