They do the highest single-target DPS of the lore pets. If you can keep them alive, they shred hard targets -- rikti pylons, AVs, the console in the 3rd ITF mish etc.
-
My Plant/Kin/Earth is up in melee all the time -- largely for Fulcrum Shifty, Seismic Smashy goodness
I know Trollers have a low damage cap but it makes hitting that 300% so much sweeter
I cannot overstate how good perma Earth's Embrace is -- I have capped 1606hp. Tasty. -
My experience leveling a Traps/Beam up to 21 so far is that most of the Beam attacks are pretty lame.
This may be just me not being used to low-end (0-20) damage or Defender damage. But man it feels weak.
This is particularly true of Disintegrate which MIDS lists as EXTREME dmg DOT or something and in practice seems to do very slow tics of 6 dmg to +1 mobs. Very slow. Like, O.o?
Lancer Shot seems to be the only hard-hitting attack and isn't even all that like Blaze. Outside of Concept I'm just sort of scratching my head over the whole set. -
Here's what I cooked up on my Traps/Beam Defender. Though obviously a bunch of the Defense values etc are different, maybe it will give you some thoughts.

and while we are here .... what's going on with lvl 50 Recharge IOs??
i am holding the bag on overstock .. the market is a cruel mistress -
Quote:"Proc through the heart, and you're to blame. Procs give Traps a bad name!"I would put a proc only if it didn't interfere with obtaining defense cap. Defense cap, not procs is what is going to keep you alive. How much is a proc worth if can't stay alive to see its use.
haha couldn't resist .... Time for a toon called Jon Bon Trappy!
-
Here it is with the chunk. I also stuck a -KB karma into CJ as apparently FFG doesn't protect v. KB?
And I swapped Triage Beacon in for Charged Shot. Though I suppose you'd keep Charged in while leveling.
Anyone else have any thoughts?

Quote:True but is it worth swapping out Charged Shot for Triage? Between trapping and the other attacks is there enough of an attack chain to drop Charged Shot? I've heard bad things about its dpa.No heals... No issue. Keep a few greens handy and there ya are... This is not a heal-centric game.
Quote:I think you could take Charged Armour (which I love) without going red side, so that would eliminate that problem. But, a side swap isn't a bad thing at all, especially as some accolades are easier red side. Go red, get your PPP, get some accolades, then go hero again. Easy stuff.. -
OK here's the best I have so far for Traps/Beams. Managed to proc out Acid Mortar and Poison Trap, and put the -RES into cutting beam. Also got the recharge of Single Shot basically down to its activation (well, close).
Problems: No heals. I suppose I could replace Charged Shot with Triage Beacon. Worth it?
Poison Trap: I keep hearing different things about procs. Some people say "not worth it - not a proc-nuke" and others say "hey the procs have a chance to fire on every target." I have 3 damage procs in this build in Poison Trap, plus lockdown +2hold. Worth it?
PPP: Has to go redside to get PowerSink and ChargedArmor.
Stamina: One slot is kinda lame.
EDIT: oops just notice this has a spiritual alpha for some reason - not intended -- oh well.

Below is the best I could come up with today and its not great. Inspired by the build above but I tried to fit in procs.
Need to consider Pink Pup's advice above and do another try.

Quote:Can you share a build?I'm skipping Trip Mine. Don't like interrupts and it makes me rush in to toe bomb when I think I'd be better served at range using cones and spreading the disintegration effect. Not having tested it, that's just my theory. By skipping it it made softcapping easier, too.
Not sure if piercing beam is a 'must have' but more -res is never a bad thing, so I took it. -
Thanks. I think my bigger challenge on Traps/Beam is going for positional softcap (Melee, Ranged, AOE) while trying to retain some proc'd traps.
What's the feeling on Trip Mine for Traps/* Defs? Worth it if only to slot a full Oblit set?
And what's the sense on must-have Beam attacks: I'm assuming 1 or both entry-level blasts, cone, Disintegrate, Overload (hey crashless nuke) ...is Piercing a must-have? -
Between AAO and the dmg of War Mace on my scrap, I keep drawing "warnings" all the time on both AVs ... crazy.
I guess technically Greater Fire Sword hits as hard or harder than Clobber, not sure how much of its total damage is DOT. And I know a lot of other attacks have higher or equal damage to Shatter (albeit not a 45-deg cone haha). But boy does Shatter + Clobber seem to lay down the hurt
And don't get me started on Crowd Control crits .... -
Man, sneaky guy hops in here with a Fire/Time corr build and gets all the love!
Where is the number crunching on WM/SD?
Where are the build gurus to help me with my i21 run above?
Say it ain't so that scrappers have abandoned one of their own for a corr ...

Hi there ...
Seen two different schools of thought on Traps/ and procs in Caltrops and Acid Mortar and Poison Trap.
1 school says proc'em including KD in Caltrops (and dmg procs), Chance to Hold in Acid Mortar (and -RES and dmg procs), and damage procs and Chance to Hold in Poison Gas.
Other schools says avoid procs and instead use full sets that give you set bonuses, such as full Lockdown for +def.
I am trying to build out a Traps/Beam and I could use some advice.
My preference would be a fully-softcap toon but I don't know if that's achievable at reasonable cost if proccing.
Thanks! -

Yay new MIDS!
Here is the build I'm currently running on live.
Things I like: endurance usage seems fine, and I'm not having to hit conserve power often. Surprised by that. Maybe it's from a lot of teaming and +end buffs. But still, doesn't seem to be an issue.
Things I question: dps and attack chain. Right now I'm running Shatter-Clobber-Pulverize-Jawbreaker without pause. Shatter first to apply -RES proc, and Jawbreaker last because Shatter does KD, and then as the mobs climb back up, it takes until Jawbreaker to KU them again.
Question is, how much more dps would be achieved (and more recharge needed) for another chain? For instance on trials with speed boost, I can chain Shatter-Clobber-Pulverize (or JB). Is it worth adding hasten and/or trying to build for another chain?
Aid Self: Have it now in addition to Incarnate Destinty Rebirth (heal + regen). Worth losing it?
Can't see adding spring attack (sucks vs. other aoe for WM) so not sure what to do with slots from freeing up aid self. Is Tactics or Focused Acc necessary (have +6% kismet slotted)?
Running Musculature +dmg / 20% endo discount alpha (T3).

Quote:Go check out BassAckward's posts about here DM/INV scrapper and then some builds I did for my FM/INV brute. Substitute SS for the primaries.Building a toon to be superman-esque. Went w/ tank. Invul/SS. Trying to make him as tough to kill as possible is my primary goal. Here are some givens:
Has to have flight (Which I can take w/o pre-reqs @lvl 4)
Does NOT have to have energy eye beams
Has Hasten and Super Speed, would like to keep.
Currently have him set to Inv/SS/Arctic with Ion Judgement and Spiritual Alpha Slot (Rech).
Anyone have a build like this?
Tourettes.
Oh, and is lvl 50. -
So where are the uber i21 KM/EA builds??
-
Ultimate props on the metal names above.
It was a mad orgy of name grabbing for me:
Shieldslinger (my Freedom server toon)
Mr. Plantastic (my Freedom server toon)
Brutal
Colossal
Barbaric
Mighty
Smackdown (<-- Probably Street Justice :-D)
Headsplitter
Skullcrusher
Mr. Furious
Mr. Massive
Mr. Midnight
Fyrefox
Fyreball
Rock Garden
(the) Hand of Fate
Dr. Occult
Spiritwalker
Time Thief
(the) Time Meddler
Tsoo Sorcerer
And just because I could: Shaolin Monkey (yes, Staff Fighting set, I'm looking forward to you). -
I am shocked that nobody came along and ganked any of you when you were trying this in RV. Maybe the PVP scene really has gone dormant. What server?
-
Cool thread link but doesn't explain what the devs were thinking by changing to the punch-out-a-robot image that's on the login as well as all over the forums.
I mean, here's statesman, the most powerful hero in the COX universe, and he's going to punch a robot. And the robot looks like he's punching back (with a gun).
*shrug*
What's the logic??
