WM/SD build thread

Granite Agent

Posted

OK, here's my starting plan. This is a Brute build since MIDS isn't updated yet. Imagine on the scrapper you take Body EPP, which frees up 1 powerpick (currently Focused Accuracy) to let you take Grant Cover (LoTG 7.5%) while keeping Conserver Power and PP.

Idea was to run a single-targ chain of Shatter-Clobber-Pulverize-Jawbreaker. I had to stick the purples in to get enough recharge. Also wanted to fit some procs in. Any ideas to make this better? Is this the optimal chain?

Debated the Force Feedback +Rchrg in Crowd Control -- but there's not much that really needs rechage. It might knock 5-10 secs off Shield Charge but that's about it. So I proc'd it instead for damage.

Debating Aid Self -- it's good to have, but redraw is a pain. Theoretically could replace it with Destiny Rebirth I guess. Question is what to take in its place, if 2 slots freed up. Spring attack doesn't really seem worthwhile given WM's AOE on its own.

Things I don't love:
- With the 3% Glad in there I wish I had higher def (49%), but I'm still softcap

took slots from build up to give you tactics, a better use for you for hard targets. Got rid of aid other and self (use the incarnate heal if you must ,and in lower exmp content your passive regeneration and greens if you really get in trouble (i have a KAT/WP scrapper who can do 1x8 exmped and i lose half my set bonuses, i'm sure you can do it!

Not only did i add tactics, but also manu, and grant cover for teaming.

rec is 3.51/s to an output with all but grant cover on of only 1.35/s so you should be in good shape.

Also my setup gives you higher Itrial survivabilty (49 def BEFORE phalanx adds any allies, similar to my own build im working on for KM/SD scrapper.

maybe this will help a bit.

Thanks Pear. Outside the slotting of some Hami-Os, it sounds like the choice is really about dropping Aid Self for Manuevers and maybe tactics. There also is room for Focused Accuracy on a scrap build instead of tactics. Have to think that through!

I have a WM/SD Brute I've been working on for ages. I'm just trying to get into him a bit more. He is defense capped.

The little nuances I seem to forget are power like Against all Odds which increase your damage vs mobs ( max 10 ) and Phalanx Fighting which gives you a Positional Defense increase for each member on your team ( max 3 ).

I'm six slotted in endurance for 2 reasons, one the defense bonus which I need and two the endurance. This build does not conform the the usual standard of having a 2 point difference between recovery and use of endurance.

Alpha slotting wise you can either go cardiac which will give you more then enough endurance but it will also give you some range and 3% increase it looks like in resistances. I don't know if 3% resistance increase across the board is anything. Basically your smash and lethal resistances are going from 35% to 38%.

Or you can go Musculature which will give you and endurance redux and damage increase. You will just be shy of the 2 point leeway many would like again with endurance, but I think its doable. Musculature will give you a damage increase. Which for example Crowd Control is doing 323 against 1 mob, with and increase of 5 mobs total it kicks up to 338, If you add in Musculature Alpha it kicks up to 354. I went 5 though I would image your gonna be doing much more and more then certainly doing 8.

Though the endurance is cutting close I would probably go with Musculature for the damage increase over all.

The other issue is One with the Shield, I am not a big fan of the power for the simple sense it double my resistances, which yes is nothing to complain about in the smash and lethal department getting you up to 64 and then rest in the high 20s and low very low 30s. But its the drain that bothers me. What do you do then ? Yes you could use an Incarnate to help you here as well, but I don't know. I would probably want the resistance shield or the heal regen one instead. In hindsight as I post this, I think I pretty much answered my own question ( came to me as I was doing preview ). Just pick up Barrier Core Epiphany ( 120 second ) out performs One with the Shield with the same recharge and no crash.

With the new changes you can now take any of the 3 tiers power without taking the other 2. So I would probably consider is Aid Self in the place of One with the Shield and just keep it with its base 1 slot.

Or you could take one slot out of Grant Cover and place 1 in Aid Self. I would probably slot it with Numina Conval Heal / Recharge and Heal / Endurance / Recharge for the 12% regeneration bonus. The nice thing it also adds a mezz protection. Might be a good thing to hit yourself with before going into a fight for a temp buff.

Here is the build. No purples.

Wait you can now take Aid Self without having to take either Aid Other or Stimulant? Really?

I built this guy on Sunday after grinding him to 50. Build is as I posted above except:

1) 4 slots in Aid Self -- 3 numi (heal, heal/end, heal/rechg) and Interrupt IO
2) 2 slots recharge in Conserve Power
3) Grant Cover with Def/End LoTG

I seem to be doing OK on endurance in +3/+8 missions and the Cim wall, and that's without using Conserve Power.

Build can chain: Shatter, Clobber, Pulverize, Jawbreaker. Not sure if that's the best chain with only moderate recharge but it seems to do OK. Speed boosted, I seemed to be able to chain Shatter, Clobber, Jawbreaker.

I was debating what Alpha and your comments on Musculature help. I wasn't sure if Musculature would make that big a difference with AAO running. Guess it does. The musculature alpha with end reduce seems like the best bet.

I like Destiny Rebirth on defense-capped toons more than barrier. I've tried both and Rebirth (heal) seems to work better to patch holes. You can chug purples or OJs to beef up your def/res but the +regen from Rebirth really helps over time.

Open to further thoughts! Wish MIDS was updated.

I think I am wrong on the Aid Self comment. Sorry..

I will do a test respec and see if I can slot only Aid Self and report back. I was reading somewhere it was only the travel powers I think. I think even the patch might say it as well. Again sorry for talking out of my backside on that part

Yay new MIDS!

Here is the build I'm currently running on live.
Things I like: endurance usage seems fine, and I'm not having to hit conserve power often. Surprised by that. Maybe it's from a lot of teaming and +end buffs. But still, doesn't seem to be an issue.

Things I question: dps and attack chain. Right now I'm running Shatter-Clobber-Pulverize-Jawbreaker without pause. Shatter first to apply -RES proc, and Jawbreaker last because Shatter does KD, and then as the mobs climb back up, it takes until Jawbreaker to KU them again.

Question is, how much more dps would be achieved (and more recharge needed) for another chain? For instance on trials with speed boost, I can chain Shatter-Clobber-Pulverize (or JB). Is it worth adding hasten and/or trying to build for another chain?

Aid Self: Have it now in addition to Incarnate Destinty Rebirth (heal + regen). Worth losing it?

Can't see adding spring attack (sucks vs. other aoe for WM) so not sure what to do with slots from freeing up aid self. Is Tactics or Focused Acc necessary (have +6% kismet slotted)?

Running Musculature +dmg / 20% endo discount alpha (T3).

Man, sneaky guy hops in here with a Fire/Time corr build and gets all the love!

Where is the number crunching on WM/SD?

Where are the build gurus to help me with my i21 run above?

Say it ain't so that scrappers have abandoned one of their own for a corr ...

I was going to jump in with the "budget" WM/Shield Brute build someone made for me, but I'm not much of a build guru and I see your build requirements are an order of magnitude more than mine in terms of influence.

Still, it's a powerset combination that functions quite well without purples or glad armor or anything crazy on my brute. I can't imagine a scrapper would be any worse (the damage would certainly be much higher- getting all that extra benefit from AAO). Kinda wish I had made her a scrapper to start with now, but I'm not going to plow through making her over again- now that she has an IO build I'm satisfied with and T3+ on all her incarnate slots.

For completeness' sake (and so anybody else looking for build ideas doesn't have to search too far), here's a link to my budget war mace/shield brute- which ought to translate just fine to a scrapper (the epic pool will change but I don't think I'm getting much out of it in the way of set bonuses). The budget build is in post #3, although other folks contributed some nice builds as well that might give some ideas.
