Yep, there was. Ran from 2:45 to 3:45 EST. The lack of forum and Twitter activity related to it suggests that nobody there was live-blogging it on a smartphone; guess we'll have to wait for those attending to get back to their hotel rooms before we hear anything. :/

Quote:Really?Feelings being neither right nor wrong, this feels like when you hear of a plane crash and your close relative was on a flight that day. You try their cell and there's no answer and the airline won't release the names of the passengers.
REALLY?
You're going to equate one of the development team members of a video game you play being laid off to a loved one possibly dying in a plane crash? I liked BABs as a dev, generally enjoyed his presence just as much as anyone else around here did, and if I had my way he'd still be here. But between this post and people actually holding a vigil at the man's in-game character location, I'm worried that some of y'all take this stuff a little overboard. O.o -
Quote:Not entirely correct.Yes, your SG leadership would fall to another member while you take the Dark Walk. You also will not be able to access your SG while Vigilante and Villain but you can maintain your membership and you will gain full access again when you return Blue Side.
The Hero SG leader would retain both his status as leader AND his base access if he became a Vigilante and called it a day. Only by fully becoming a Villain would that character be demoted and lose base access. My Crab Spider is the leader of a small VG, and I retained all the privileges and abilities thereof even after becoming a Rogue. Including entering, editing, and using the facilities inside his base.
When in doubt, remember that Vigilante = Hero with extra travel privileges, and Rogue = Villain with extra travel privileges. This applies to SGs and bases, PvP, and any other situation where Vigilantes and Rogues are not specifically accounted for. -
Because Massively have since decided to or were forced to take down the article in my OP, it would be prudent to take it as rumor and speculation until we do hear something concrete (hopefully at today's NYCC panel).

Give it up, LISAR. Dude's not gonna change his opinion, and engaging him is just gonna result in him posting more nonsense rhetoric.

City of Heroes plans to roll out Issue 19 this month
Tomorrow is the panel for City of Heroes at the New York Comic Con, but the events have already started in the city and some word is beginning to leak out. After yesterday's rather upsetting news, it's good to hear that Issue 19 is closer than we might think -- most likely by the end of the month. That's the word from Melissa Bianco during an interview earlier today, and while we'll have the full interview in a day or so, we wanted to share the tidbit now.
While more details will be discussed at the panel tomorrow, the plan is for Issue 19 to go into closed beta next week, with the issue going to the live servers not too long after that. It's unclear whether or not there will be any time for the patch on the public test server, but we'll learn more with the official panel starting at 11 a.m. EDT tomorrow. Until then, City of Heroes players can content themselves with everything they already do know about the patch.
EDIT: Massively has now removed the above-quoted article for some unknown reason. So until any definite news comes out (possibly at today's NYCC panel), please take the above as rumor and speculation. -
Quote:Er, no.I think Noble Savage has pretty much taken over Jay's role and he seems to be a tad more popular than Jay due to having a higher interaction without being obtuse ratio than Jay did.
Jay was also a very polarising person, people either loved his style of posting or hated it. Most of the US community adored him but most of the EU community didn't like him IIRC.
David Nakayama is Art Lead, the position formerly held by Ken Morse. He oversees all the various art departments and is responsible for the overall artistic design of the game. Jay is (lead?) character artist. He's responsible for creating, well, characters. Both NPCs and PC costume bits. He and the other character artist(s) have apparently been very busy for some time, going by comments in a couple of David's posts. -
Quote:Then can you see if the already-overworked player costume artists could at some point give us something similar to the Kheldian sash? I'm sure a lot of mystic, pirate, and Carnie-style characters would greatly appreciate something like that.Just for the record, what we've said publically is that the team has refocused and redoubled efforts on taking npc groups and creating commensurate player costume parts whenever technically possible (See: Resistance, Clockwork, and PPD). You'll see more of this in the future as well.
Converting older parts is certainly POSSIBLE, but it's not something we've commited to. -
Quote:Of course it could also mean that. My point (SilverAgeFan's point, actually) is that being laid off actually encompasses more than just one set of circumstances, and that - although it's human nature to do so - we shouldn't automatically speculate that the worst case scenario is what happened when we have no first-hand knowledge. That's all.Though it should be noted, that sometimes, it means exactly that. It's not like a lot of companies like to give their employees notice of lay offs, as that tends to drive work down.
At least, my experience in the job market has said, no employer has ever given a two weeks notice. -
Quote:THIS.Folks need to slow down a moment. IF BABs is indeed gone, a few things to keep in mind:
- Laid off is not the same thing as fired, not by a longshot.
- Laid off is not always a hostile parting, in fact sometimes it is quite amicable.
- Related, I have seen a few occasions where honorable employees who are ready to move on will essentially "jump on a the layoff grenade" for their fellow workers. Details I have witnessed included:
- Senior employees aware that either they go or three people from their department go to make budget lines doing so out of protest and a protective sense
- Employees with other opportunities and offers already waiting in the wings making things easier on their bosses. (For some bosses layoffs are the toughest part of their job. Period.)
- Accepting a nice severance for volunteering to retire early or take the layoff for the team, conveniently coming at a time when said employee is already ready for a change (either of career, employment status, or just three months off)
In other words, if he was laid off, there is a whole lot of none-of-our-business (good or bad) behind the situation. BABs has done some great work over the years during his tenure with CoX. And even if he wasn't laid off, think about it, 5 or so years is a Looooooong time to hold a position in as dynamic an industry as his.
In time, I'm sure we'll learn the truth of this rumor regarding his status. But for now folks, slow down a little on this one.
A thousand time, this.
Quite a few people in this thread that don't understand business structure and assume that "laid off" equates to "suddenly handed your pink slip by your evil boss".
-
It's entirely possible that most of the layoffs are people we've never heard of. These things happen all the time; it's just that people usually don't go blabbing to websites about it.

Sure thing!
1. I am male
2. I tend to play melee-oriented ATs (although my main character is a Crab Spider). I like being in the thick of things, and since my D&D days, I've always gravitated toward the "immovable object"/"can take harder hits than anyone else" classes.
3. These days, I'm fairly well spread out. For a while I was predominantly red-side, because I found the design of CoV to be much smoother than that of CoH.
4. Tough one. I really like Dean MacArthur's "Me, Myself, and My Other Selves" arc. I also like Praetorian Penelope Yin's "My Best Friend Rusty" arc.
5. Creation, customization, and exploration. Although I play combat-oriented ATs, I'm much more of a creator and explorer.
6. As far as other MMOs go, none. although I do usually check out most major MMOs that hit the North American market. I'm a PC gamer who doesn't care for first-person shooters, so I don't usually have any sort of "regular" game series. I am currently playing Dead Rising 2.
7. I've been playing since the City of Heroes open beta, back in 2004.
8. I don't have many alts, as I tend to focus on one character at a time (behavior left over from my pen-and-paper RPG days). I have maybe a dozen alts altogether, most usually under level 20. I don't mind deleting characters, so I currently only have 1 active level 50 character aside from my main character.
9. Yes, I do work toward "high-end" builds. This is usually only done at or around 50, however. Until then, I'm content with using Dual-Origin and Single-Origin enhancers up to level 32. From there to 50, I use generic level 35 IOs.
My difficulty range varies based on specific character, level, and current goal. I'll stay on x1/+0 for a good chunk of a character's progression, until I'm fairly confident in what I can do with said character. My level 50 Crab Spider usually runs x8/-1 for the purpose of getting purple recipes. But I'll absolutely turn it down if I need to. -
How about a little woman-fronted death metal?

WARNING: huge shill post ahead!
EVERYTHING that Devin Townsend has done himself or has been part of. He is seriously one of the most underrated and criminally-obscure artists of our times. Singer, guitarist, songwriter, producer.
Some examples:
19-year old Devin as the vocalist for Steve Vai on the Sex And Religion album: 1 2 3
His initial post-Vai solo work: 1 2 3 4 5
As frontman for the greatest metal band ever, Strapping Young Lad: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
His Sci-Fi metal musical Ziltoid the Omniscient: 1 2
Or his other groups, the Devin Townsend Band: 1 2 3
And most recently, The Devin Townsend Project: 1 2 3 4 5
So yeah ... enter his name on youtube, watch every video with him in it, buy all of his stuff, and listen to it religiously. You will absolutely not regret it! -

'Twas a fun little romp. I'll admit, I'd never run Ice Mistral prior to yesterday, so I wasn't ready for the lag in the final room (who the hell designed that, anyways?). Still, good times.
-
Totally psyched for it! I'll unfortunately be forced to watch it at a later time via questionable methods due to there being no SyFy in England.
But spoil away in this thread; I pretty much already know what to expect.

Quote:There's no reason why we can't BOTH be picture-posting people! No! BAD Goliath! No stealing my rights as picture poster person around here!
Besides, my main character appeared in the video; I have the right to call upon The Norris. -
... And nothing of value was lost.

AWWWWWWWWWWWW ... !
And here, I thought the thread's title was sarcastic. I was looking forward to replying to a rambling, rage-fueled OP with some sort of snarky picture.
Still, good to hear you got things sorted out!
