Quote:If Issue 22 were a VIP beta, the boards would be visible to all VIPs. If it were in a standard closed beta, those who were a part of it wouldn't be able to say whether or not it was taking place.I'm a VIP but I only see beta forums for issue 21 which is the current issue and I22 is the one in beta or am I completely missing the actual beta forums?
Realistically, though, Zwillinger said that I22 would go into beta around the middle of the month. Personally, I'm thinking it won't happen until after Statesman gets offed, which will happen on the 17th. -
For what it's worth, during today's Ustream, Zwil introduced us to a new team member (whose name I regretfully cannot recall) who replaced The Television. Why? Because The Television has been moved from CoH to Paragon Studios' "upcoming project".
Ain't saying it's CoH 2, but you never know ... -
Mainly just that The Television has been moved from CoH to Paragon's upcoming project. So that's confirmation in a way that they're doing something there other than CoH.

Wow, I *did* miss that, and I've even read her trainer bio before. Guess I just really didn't care enough to commit it to memory. Also, her wiki article needs to be updated.

Yes, if for no other reasons than it's time for a modern engine and fresh, clean, well-documented code. The game's developers have proven their worth over the years as the MMO equivalent of MacGyver, but it really is getting near time to retire the grand old dame and start anew. Y'know, in a couple of years, maybe.

Quote:That particular bit was either retconned with Going Rogue, or is just not mentioned anymore. Here's her in-game bio:For those who may not fully understand, Dominatrix is Tyrant's granddaughter... I'm not sure the lore guys thought her through very well. She's kind of a hush-hush secret that we avoid talking about to keep the T rating intact.
Quote:Being the daughter of a famous and universally loved super heroine never sat well with Dominatrix. She rebelled from a very early age and when she hit puberty and her powers kicked in she decided enough was enough. After killing her mother, the infamous Miss Liberty, she started making a name for herself. She caught Tyrant's attention and has been serving him loyally, in all capacities, ever since.
As for her job? Judging by Anti-Matter and Neuron, I'd say "Official Pot-Stirrer" -
Quote:Malaise considers himself an artist. Working entirely from the shadows isn't as satisfying as being able to look his "audience" in the eyes. Also, the Clockwork King's psychic abilities are far, far, superior to Malaise's abilities. The underlying story, however, does not even make much sense. Alexis was "dead 20 minutes before" our characters arrive to make the rescue attempt. And then Malaise surrenders. In order to get, what, close enough to Sister Psyche to activate the latent Aurora Borealis? This in a world where the Clockwork King can animate thousands of individual minions from Far Far Away? Close proximity does not seem to ever be needed for this psychic stuff.
Quote:Of course, I am not too happy that my hero gets to stand around unable to take action while all the murders and such take place, which does not help matters in the enjoyment area. -
Quote:TL;DR version: Characters created by a game engine that's about 10 years old look dated when compared to characters created by a newer engine. In other news, the sky is blue.I'm sorry if this seems like a mean thing to say, but I just feel it's high time we accepted this and, more importantly, admitted that we need a solution to it. I was just watching the MMOgrinder review of City of Heroes, and it occurs to me that Chaos is not the first person to say our characters look plastic and doll-like. I agree that a lot of our newer, paid-for costume pieces look very good - better than a lot of contemporary games, actually.
But our humans are still ugly. Of all the old costumes in this game, some of by FAR the oldest are the basic human body shape and the human skin texture, and those have never been updated. And that's a problem. Our clothes and our armour are getting better and better, yet our bodies remain very ugly when we take those clothes off. Our necks are atrocious, our feet are cube-like, our hands have no fingers, our women's arms are cylindrical tubes, our skins have no definition, our hair is static and on and on and on.
Obviously, some of those things are too resource-intensive to do. Fingers, for instance, would require the remodelling of all available gloves while moving hair would probably require new tech. But at least some of those things shouldn't be this hard to improve on. Our characters' basic physique is laughable. The old "naked" body modle is severely limited in terms of detailing, essentially the same as it was back in 2004, or 2001 or whenever those were first made. Giving us better BARE feet should not be this hard. Giving us a torso with better shoulders and more realistic physique should not be this hard. Giving us ankles that look like ankles should not be such a problem.
Our costumes look great, but the characters inside those costumes still look blocky, dated and unrefined. But that's just me complaining. I want to turn this into something positive.
Suppose you could change any number of things on the basic character model sans any clothes. What would they be, and in what order of importance would you arrange them?
For me, those would be:
*The skin. Our basic skin texture is far too simplistic and uncustomizable. We can do better.
*The necks. Those double chins have to go.
*The faces. The whole head mesh can do with a LOT more 3D details.
*The arms. For women, these look like sausages more than like arms.
*The feet. This is 2011. Shoes painted with toes on them is not good enough.
*The ankles. There's just something really weird about those.
*The hair. I don't know how other games do it, but having even short hair sway just looks cool.
Do you have a daily complaint quota, Sam? Because, really, making this particular complaint feels like you're reaching. You're playing a game that's been live for almost 8 years, and in development for a few years prior to that; having models which look inferior to those in new games is practically a conceit by this point. -
Quote:They haven't said specifically. All we do know is that everything isn't going to change all at once. The in-game revisions will happen over a period of time.I have a question If Statesman is suppose to die when SSA05 is published, what are they gonna do with him? Hes pretty much an icon of the game itself. If they kill him, then theyre gonna have to remove him completely from the game as he is in a ton of missions and story arcs to the Statesman Task Force. How are we gonna have a Statesman Task Force without Statesman?
-
I definitely prefer them to the instant-use power-ups found in some other MMOs. Our system allows for some flexibility and strategy in use.

Yeah, it's possible that maintenance is being put off by a day in order to get everyone back in the office and back into the swing of things. As always, I could be wildly, horribly wrong about this.

Quote:So the LFG queue is introduced with Incarnate trials and people complain about how it should be tied to other content as well. The developers make it tied to other content and people complain that they're "being forced" into using it.Forcing the LFG queue idea upon the winter lord zone remains a TERRIBLE choice for this past winter event period. Hoping they actually make it useful come issue 22 before trying to shoe horn more content into it that doesn't need it's uselessness to actually be run.
Yup, business as usual here on the CoH forums. -
That's true; the other SSA arcs have gone live without downtime. However, if SSA 5 was going live today, it would've done so at around midnight Pacific if precedent were to be followed. Not saying that it still isn't possible; it's just not likely.

She's not an exact clone. She was modified in a few ways, and being brought to term in a surrogate mother might've also affected her development. Also, Daken has two claws coming from the top of his hand and one coming out underneath from his wrist, so there is evidence of variance in claw placement within those from his bloodline who share the same mutation.

Yeah, I'm gonna miss X-23's monthly series. It was shaping up nicely with Liu at the helm, and Takeda's pseudo-manga art style really complimented her writing. They managed to make vampire Jubilee impossibly cute, and Franklin and Val Richards actually looked their ages for a change. My consolation is that X-23 is going to another solid title in Avengers Academy; I have no concern that Christos Gage will mishandle her.
As for the female Ghost Rider: The series was an odd one. It started smack-dab in the middle of Fear Itself, and so a lot of story points were kinda rushed. It was just starting to hit its stride and decompress a little with Alejandra going off on her own, although Rob Williams was still unsure of what voice he wanted to give her. But with Marvel looking to cut its number of publications and a new GR movie coming out with Johnny Blaze, the writing was all but on the wall. -
I dunno ... I've been on several leagues that formed up before the trial we were going to do was decided upon; it's never really been an issue. Maybe it's just my server.

Are you saying that CoH is a non-Euclidean MMO?
-
Because I don't think Lineage 2 has a subscription model anymore. I believe that it's all microtransaction-based now. CoH still having its "VIP" model kinda throws a wrench into things because time cards can still purchase subscription time.

I'm not sure about point cards, but Zwillinger has addressed the possibility of players being able to gift points and/or market items to other players. It basically boils down to the fact that NCSoft's legal department would need to become involved, and a whole slew of new potential customer service issues would need to be anticipated and addressed. If it were just a matter of writing some code and patching, they likely would have done it already. Of course, it's also possible that it is currently being worked on, just in the background.
