This. Plenty of names out there. People just need to be more creative.

    Adaptions & You

Some adaptations I love, some I hate.

For instance, the "Burn Notice" tv series is much better than the movie it's adapted from a few years back. Chuck Palahniuk is noted for saying he loves the "Fight Club" movie better than his book.

I also found the Bourne books boring and slow, but I love the movies, but I think the adaptation of John Steakley's "Vampire$" to film to be an awful mess, while I've read and reread the book at least 20 times.

And there are those who would say that Akira Kurosawa's "Throne of Blood" is better than Shakespeare's "Macbeth" and others who would claim you cannot top Shakespeare.

On the other hand, Frank Miller claims he still gets letters from people hating what he did to Batman, even though the majority of fans believe "The Dark Knight Returns" was the greatest thing to happen to Bruce Wayne ever.

I'm a huge fan of Neil Gaiman's work. So much so that I have a tattoo of one of characters. When watching "Stardust" I cringed at the introduction of Robert De Niro as a cross-dressing sky pirate, but I found the performance of De Niro wonderful.

When I become a multi-billionaire overlord of the Earth, or at least a major film studio, I'll corrupt Troy Hickman's works the same way! Except, there will be pants involved!

The Resistance refers to the PPD as "blueberries" at times.

Also, in a non-related instance, I saw one npc talking to another last night and one says "string" then the other replied "string" (no proper punctuation for context included.)

Not $string or $target string, indicating they may have a text string of random value to say, just "string".

I think maybe the npcs know that freem and string are related, or they're gone to the americans.
  4. When a cop friend of yours pulls up, and you say, "The blueberry is here!"

And yeah, I did that the other day.
  5. Here's hoping everyone keeps safe and sound and survives this crazy weather.

My thoughts are with you all.
  6. Iggy... I really *HATE* you!

Hate in this case means admire and respect. Everytime I do something, you top it!

    Congratulations!
  7. /J... naw just kidding!

    I can get behind this!
  8. @Anasthesia and I are currently using it on a DP/MM blaster and a DP/Kin Corrupter.

We've used it before in the past as well, and probably will again.

He can't figure out what is going on, who all these people are, why mobs are appearing out of thin air, and most of all why his graphics are so choppy!

Fortunely us geeks have certain phrases which explain a multitude of sins away. "Alien Invasion, join our team and hit anything that appears". Oh Aliens, that explains it lol.

Afterward there was time to go into a little more detail, of course by then he was like level 8 or 9 and had out leveled the entire zone. Not reall good if you are still learning, Atlas/Galaxy have a nice slow difficulty increase curve, starting out on level 10 Vaz can be a bit of a shock, plus he had no idea what powers to choose and build.

It was one of the funniest moments I have seen though, he was SERIOUSLY confused. Made me wonder if anyone ever quit the game because of this though.
Heh, sounds like my day in the game. I logged right into a Rikti invasion, got invited to a team, sidekicked to a 50 (this was before SSK) and blasted anything that moved.
@Anasthesia looked over at my monitor and just said, "I want to play that!"
I asked in team chat, "Is this normal?"
Someone replied, "welcome to Paragon, kid!"
  10. Not quite an action film, not quite a romance and not quite a comedy, but it has the greatest sword fight ever filmed, and anyone who says different is selling something.

In a surprisingly large number of cases, this is Just Plain Wrong. So counting every instance of piracy as a "lost sale" is boneheaded (and I'm putting it politely).
I was simply going by the pirates I know of personally. I used to work for a game company. Several times I was approached by people at conventions who would come and blather on and on about how they loved our game, and played it all the time, but they had trouble accessing user created content, which was a special section of the website where users could upload and download third party models, skins, etc.

When I would ask for their forum names or account information they would stare blankly and say, "Oh, I didn't buy your game, I bought HOT NEW GAME, and just downloaded yours."

But you're right in saying that not everyone who pirated it would have paid for it in the first place. My statement was kind of general and I should have been more specific.

    Quote:
Actually what's causing the price to rise are all the ludicrous forms of access control the content providers (not necessarily the content owners and producers) are opting to put into new content. Some of it so bad that it actually winds up penalizing legitimate users more than the lousy *bleep!* who steal the stuff.

This I totally agree with. Well said.

  13. We're in Georgia and got seven inches of snow. That's practically unheard of around here.

The local public works doesn't even have a salt truck, they mount a field marker (like the kind they use to made baseball and football markings) on the back of a pickup and drop sand out of it.

No plows either, they have a tractor.

Great film series. My favorite part of the three was when the one mafiaoso threatened CYFs restaurant if he didn't pay protection money.
  15. I want a Power Armor/ Bolter primary with Chainsword as an Epic pool.

  18. I've got several good friends who live in Australia. I used to work with a company out of Brisbane, so I've been keeping everyone in my thoughts.

    Stay safe, all.

Mother nature just hit us hard with a blizzard here, and it looks like she's determined to flood Queensland as well.
  19. I think we all agree "Die Hard" is the ultimate in action movies. I remember seeing the trailer for it and people in the theater laughing at the thought of Bruce Willis in an action film. Back then he was only known for "Moonlighting" and "Blind Date."

Several others I love have been said, I'd like to add:

    "The Replacement Killers"
    "The Matrix"
    "Ghost Dog"
    "Raiders of the Lost Ark"
    "Aliens"
    "The Losers"
    "Army of Darkness"

    Edit:
And is anyone else as excited for "Cowboys and Aliens" as I am?

  21. Oh I remember that...

And I've been trying for years to forget it.

We wasted a whole game session playing this, when I could have got that +5 battleaxe I wanted.
  22. Sure!

RED stars Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich.
Bruce is a retired government agent, who is lonely and doesn't know what to do with his life, so he constantly calls this one girl at payroll just to chat. He is flagged as dangerous and so a hit squad is sent after him. He gets his old team together to help protect the girl in payroll and to find out why these "Retired, Extremely Dangerous" agents are suddenly being hunted by their former employers.

Malkovich steals every scene he is in. Lots of action and lots of humor.

The Way of the Gun stars Benecio Del Toro, Ryan Phillipe, James Caan and Juliette Lewis.
Two drifters overhear that the surrogate mother of a rich family is very close to her due-date and will be at her OB/Gyn. They decide to kidnap her and hold her for ransom.

It's a modern retelling of "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" with a shootout at an old motel turned house of ill repute in Mexico.

Favorite scene: Benecio and James just having a beer together and discussing their respective careers while negotiating terms of the kidnapping.
  23. As was said, you really can't screw up in this game.

And you don't have to reroll characters to fix anything you want to change later, you can get respecs by either doing the Terra Volta trial, veteran rewards, sometimes the devs give us free ones, or you can find or buy recipes to earn respecs.

The respec allows you to completely change your power selection and slotting. It won't allow you to change your Archetype (Scrapper) or your Primary or Secondary powers (Martial Arts, Willpower)

Here's my basic power selection for Willpower:

    Level 1: High Pain Tolerance
    Level 4: Fast Healing
    Level 10: Indomitable Will
Level 16: Rise to the Challenge
    Level 20: Quick Recovery
    Level 22: Mind Over Body
    Level 24: Build Up
    Level 28: Heightened Senses

I'm trying to avoid telling you how to slot your powers because any build I give you will be directed toward a high cost build, completely slotted out with Invention Origin sets and designed to solo AVs, Task Forces and other Stupid Scrapper Tricks.

That won't do you much good as a leveling build however.

http://www.cohplanner.com/download.php will link you to MiDs which is what we use to design and examine builds. You can tinker around in it and see which powers you want to put where, and when, and what Enhancements you would like.
  24. Okay, here's my top ten action films in no particular order. Some of these could also count as drama, thrillers or even camp:

    "Die Hard"
    "Hard Boiled"
    "The Killer"
    "Expendables"
    "Crank"
    "Boondock Saints"
    "RED"
    "Machete"
    "Sin City"
    "Way of the Gun"
