Quote:I've been reworking this over the period of the last few days in notepad...It would have been good if this had been a guide that educated me in some way, but I feel stupider for having read most of it.
I don't disagree with the statements in the first post. People could be banned for bad language. Technically violent and/or sexually suggestive (or, of course, explicit) language does go against the Agreement made before logging in.
However, even ignoring the somewhat debatable validity of the American word for bum (as opposed to bum being the American word for hobo) as an actual swear, someone saying "Let's kick some ***!" is still implying violence, in fact it's an attempt to incite violence. Should they be banned for it?
I'd also argue that since the player has to change the options to allow profanity to be displayed, they're making a concious decision to consent to seeing such words. In the UK at least, 16 (the recommended age for the game) is old enough to marry and have kids. If you're an adult you should be able to read people swearing. I don't think swearing is such an issue in the EU servers (except on one particular global channel, but that's a whole other thread) because we're not as uptight about that sort of thing this side of the pond (a very broad generalisation which, if pressed, I will back up with made up statistics) but I've had people I've had to ignore before. Not for their use of swear words, but for their lack of grammar and spelling, the hatred behind their words, or just because they were spamming a lot of nonsense.
It certainly does seem that this stems from the actions of a number of people on a particular server affecting a particular person, and whilst I can appreciate the need to vent, attempting to do so in the form of an unhelpful (IMO, of course) guide, isn't the best way. Particularly, since, as has already been noted, those who're spamming your server probably wouldn't care enough to try and read this, even if they could.
Besides, your sig is very far from innocent, with it's suggested inter-species erotica.
and how do you know that my sig promotes inter-species? Or even erotica for that matter?
In the end that game had a friend with a whip, me with the rope and generally screwing around whipping the donkey at odd occasions just to throw a wrench into the GM's story line.
After awhile when we ran out of food, thats where the pole came in, and we ended up roasting it.
*pulls your mind out of the gutter and wipes it off* Here, all clean for you -
Quote:Blah blah blah, Thank you Captain ObviousNot "redundant"; contradictory. Redundancy is duplicatively repeatable.
I gots Dyslexia of a different sort here. I'll say right instead of left, use words with similar though different meanings and all that garbage. But all the same, either remove the nav marker from all of them, or add nav markers to all of them
I just discovered the animation bug that happens with MM's pets also happens to my elec/shield scrapper. When hes using his shield toggles (causing him to be in that constant ready animation that the spec-ops go into) when I use "/e robotdance" he goes off and does some other random dance. If the emote is repeated, he does the robot dance as normal.
After you move however, no emotes will work. However upon doing robotdance again and not moving, any and all emotes work as usual. -

The Reason behind Sun Splitters Neg Rep...
Need I say more? and Neg rep for the OP, just because he asked oh so nicely -
Quote:They fixed it with the other mission, all other missions I have done that said "Find the Exit" usually had a clear marker on where it was at.Why is this a bug? They want you to "find" the exit. No need for a map marker.
Kinda redundant to have the others with a marker and some without with the same Nav text. -
Yet another one, a old bug on a new mish,
(From the "Test Server Known Issues list" That suprisingly has NOT been updated at all...)
"In Mission 3 of 'Thus Spoke the Reichsman', when players need to 'Find the Mission Exit', there is no waypoint on the map to show where the exit is."
The mission,
Investigate Nemesis Base
The Horror of War
Part: Three
Has the same issue. Says to find the exit however the exit is the same way you come in and theres no map marker for the exit. -
Thanks for the advice DD. I'll see what I can tweak on the second build if I haven't already gimped that one, and if I have... I guess I'll be trying to see who will be willing to facepla....errr... I mean steamroll through the respec TF.
-
We just had one eariler, we were on a mission in the RWZ and my net lagged so bad that I mapserved, so I quit to login, gave her a phone call, told her what happened and headed off to the store (needed soda refill
) when I came back, I figured I would just log in another toon and we could do something else.
...
Wait a minute, I can't invite her... says shes on a mission.
She says shes not in the mission anymore so I have her invite me.
On the team window it says "On mission map" so I head to the mission (that apparently was the mission set by my Hero tank at the time) and once I'm in, her name shows up in the team window but when I try to follow her, her icon is outside the war-walls.
I leave the mission and find her sitting right outside the door... o.O But... the team window says shes on the mission map again! (I try to reset the mission at this point to something else... no-go. because shes still "On the mission map" it wouldn't let me.
That and the SSK kept her at level 49 instead of dropping her back to her actual level of 20. and it brought up my level 37 MM to 49 as well. So I do a flip, come back on as my hero tank, she invites (already learned our lesson from the first time) and it shows her sk'ed to me as it should. I try to switch the mission this time as the mission originator.
No-go... Shes still "On the mission map" Yet we are inside the Vanguard base with several people running past that I know were not on my team O.o
I kick her from the team figuring that will fix it and click on her afterwards... shows her as level 49... I attempt to re-invite her which amazingly works, she joins team ssked under me again and I try one last time to switch the mission.
Do I even have to say what I saw again?
So again I kicked her, we passed the star back and forth like a hot potato kicking each other and re-inviting each other until somehow in all this garbage when I kick her one more time... All her pets died. (Usually a sign of someone being lower level than their minions) and I check, Yes shes level 19. I re-invite her to the team, she is re-ssked under me and I was able to switch the mission at this point.
Nasty bug sitting here, but I have NO clue how to replicate it besides what I have explained I have done.
When I mapserved as well we were both on the mission map when it happened. -
Ok, so I respecced using some of your ideas (loosely but still) Got rid of the useless powers I had and this is what I got.

So far the end problems are few and far between now, I was able to take on both the Nemisis version of Positron and Manticore (with his witty errors) without dying once. I was shocked really. But it seems strong and can only get stronger with more Set IO's.
Strong and Oh so pretty! XD -
Quote:As for the upcoming ultra mode, I don't want the freaking option greyed out if they "think" that my card can't handle it... I want to try it anyway, if my computer crashes, oh well. I got CoHelper to fix that in a jiffy.Right, everyone will get Ultra Mode as an option, but only those that have the hardware to support it will be able to turn it on. On my laptop, no I won't be able to use it. On my home PC, I'll need to upgrade. Until that happen I won't get to use Ultra Mode, but regardless I'll be able to play GR when I purchase it. And you better believe I will.

The reason I didn't have stamina was transferrence, by the time I was down where I needed more endurance, I would just zap the mob with that and be completely refilled every time.
Used to use Fulcrum Shift/Siphon Power/Nuke/Pop a blue/Transferrence and I was back to kicking butt and taking names of whoever was left.
the Black Scorpion patron pool sounds like a better idea however (seeing how it was my ONLY shield... lol) And I never took aim because it only lasts for 10 seconds and the recharge isn't worth it.
tweakin it around however as it has given me a few good ideas -
*grabs his freshly unlocked tommy gun and fills the thread full of lead* Let's let it get buried already.
I would love to see many of the outfits available to everybody including myself but I, like most, already know thats not going to happen.
And I'm a 3 month vet. -
Quote:Generally speaking, its a guide on the rules against profanity. However considering how flammable this topic is, it's gonna hit into the "discussion" area quickly.First, this is a discussion, not a guide -- it should be moved to the City Life section.
Second, there actually are kids who play this game, including my 12-year-old. Sure, these kids hear all the crude, rude and socially unacceptable language at school, but that doesn't mean I want them to see it typed out in the game when the rules are clear that it is not supposed to be. I already kicked my child off of one other game because of the language being used. CoH is much better, but there are always those lowbrows who like to type things in a way to circumvent the filter. It is like turning on a channel on cable that you thought was OK, and then you get something gross that isn't supposed to be there.
Third, I generally don't want to see that stuff, either. The rules are clear, and there are no GOOD reasons why they shouldn't be followed. I don't care if you think I'm a prude . . .
But then again any guide replied to, or someone adds something in for it, it becomes a discussion. (Honestly for this section of the forums I would like to see a ability for all new post to be "Hidden" till reviewed by a moderator, then posted and locked with a discussion link elsewhere.)
And yes, I believe there is no good reasons that people should have to swear. I can understand a audible blurt in the real world, but to swear in a game, you see what your typing and you make the decision to hit the enter key submitting it to everybody or to re-type what you were about to say. -
Quote:I'm usually playing off-peak and thats around the time these types of people claw their way out of the woodwork. It's odd that you say there's so much of it. I play on Freedom, which as we all know is "a wretched hive of scum and villainy" and I see this kind of behavior only very rarely. I play during close to peak hours too, so I'm pretty sure that's not it either. Maybe it's just you?
-
Quote:Same reason why I've tried those least-used powerset combos. Somebody wrote about them, more people said they sucked and I decided to give em a shot to see if I could somehow make it not suck as bad.Let's pretend for a minute that we're talking about the least-used powerset combo in the game. I have no idea what this combo is, so let's just call it X melee/Y armor. Or if you prefer, X support/Y blast. Or whatever.
What difference does writing a guide about X melee/Y armor, that a small percentage of the player base will read, and a presumably much smaller percentage will actually take to heart, and create a character because of it?
Same difference.
If someone doesn't do it, nobody will. -
Now, before you all go, OMGZ THATS TEH SUX!
I wholeheartedly agree... It was my first 50 and as I was setting up the build in hero planner I facepalmed several times wondering what the heck I was thinking. So please, PLEASE Offer some complete overhaul ideas for this as I'm shocked hes survived this long with the way his current build is set up.
Looking at it a second time, I realize why I survived so long... Kins are in high demand quite often... so being on teams, my Epic Failness wasn't noticed. XD
[edit] crap, just remembered too, I need a solo-friendly build but good for teams too.
(This build was before I actually started understanding how Set IO's work fully)

But if I do, I'll see if I can replicate it and do a screen recording of it happening. Also, is it just me or does their problem with elevators seeming to get worse?
I have been avoiding any and all indoor instances with my MM's. EVERY time I use an elevator I have to resummon or even better, fight off the mobs that my one pet brings back with him when he "zones" into the middle of the floor, and runs back to me with every mob he has encountered along the way. I would definitely say its much worse.
And because someone nitpicked the topic title because we also made mention of some bugs that were happening before i16, I changed it to one less nitpickable. -
Original post Fixd... Sorry for some reason whenever I was gonna type the company name I kept typing Cryptic. But I just recently started playing again with it under the new management. Still gotta get used to things working better than they did before...
(Last time I actually played was before CoV was announced >.>) -
The Death of PhysX with the Coming of Going Rogue. Is this confirmed or not Devs?
I heard of NCSoft deciding to dump the PhysX engine for OpenCL. Now I've been researching into this (as most games I've played besides this one have all used one form of the Havok engine or another.
Story link about OpenCL:

Just hopin to hear from a redname about the Physics Engine Update upcoming (hopefully) -
Quote:How would they handle redside when Croatoa is Blueside Exclusive?Yeah, I could see something like that in Croatoa, that is a very good idea. But how would they handle the House, Cathedral, Crypt, Graveyard and other content? Does it all just mysteriously appear for Halloween and then dissapear when it is all over? I would rather see this in a new zone, and don't really see a reason why it would be "out of the question". Being in Croatoa, the ambience of it all would kinda be interupted by the other content that is permanent there. Take the Ski Chalet for example, could you see that in any other zone?
Thank you Ghoost -
Quote:Honestly, I'm glad someone could explain this better than I could.I think Lucky's point was that, colloquially, they are used interchangably. And literally speaking, 10% = 10 percent = 10 "of each 100", which is a hard number, not a probability rate. However, I think both are commonly used to say "on average, it happens 1 in 10 times" or "it has a 10% chance to happen".
Sorry for the math nerd threadjack (the worst kind!). Regardless, I think it's clear that Metalhead understood it was an independent event each time with an expected value of 1 Jack spawn for every 10 total GM spawns. With 50 kills, he had nearly a 99.5% chance of spawning Jack so he was wondering if he was really that unlucky or if there could be a bug present.
More on topic, I was hoping that the -1 Task Force and team name bugs detailed in the 10/28 patch notes thread would get fixed. I haven't yet gotten to test, but assume from these notes that they have not.
Math was never my shining moment when I was going to school 13 years ago... That and I look at math nowadays and go "What the Heck is this?"
Personally I'm glad they fixed the arena bug... that was one of the most annoying bugs I've ever seen.
(the first time it happened I just used my mission transporter and got out that way) -
True its not that professional, but I passed Spelling class, but never took english. I blame it on moving around so much. So I never made it to High School.
IOW My grammar isn't the best, but I try to the best of my ability.
What prompted this was that more and more people believe this is appropriate behaviour over the global channels en masse and it's coming to the point where its moved beyond tolerable.
I can understand someone saying sh** just as they faceplant in the midst of a ambush gank.
But just spamming the chat with a whole bunch of profanity, racial slurs, sexuality bashing and, sexually charged comments is a bit much. -
Quote:Learn something new every day, Thanks for pointing out that distinction *commits it to memory* I was trying to avoid the whole "Old English" terminology like the plague because even I don't like calling it that and I didn't know the proper term for it.If I recall correctly the terms your looking for are American English and Queen's English since the people I know who live in those areas feel that does make more sense than the old English/American English terminology. As far as filters go I fully understand what you mean since the filter in the old Sega game Phantasy Star Online which often blocked out common words only for the fact that they has minor or major "swear words" in them. An example would be the debate over the short word for jewish which would get blocked out due to the first three letters. In actuality that word isn't racist yet somehow is depending on the context. Then again just about sixty percent of those slurs could be negated due to context.
Most of the time I tend to ignore the main chat window unless i'm activly looking for a team or something so in my case it isn't as big of a problem.
Anyway the filter can be found in your options menu under General in the Chat section. Pretty simple and close to the top of the list so its easy to find.
