Posi's "shopping guide" for just that should help you out there. [looking for post...]

It could be entirely because I'm very visuals-driven, but this "goodies post" makes me very, very happy. That's a very nice level of tease right there.

Quote:Like Uhara here, I suspect he's just tired of answering stupid questions form "entitled" fans and doesn't hear much else. Its not the first time BaB hit his limit on PMs and disabled them. He probably just needs a break from our BS for a year or three.
Maybe he has a problem, and no one else can help, and he's off to find...
(Its not Picard, but its still Youtube, BaB)
[edit] Heh, I didn't time that all that well... not calling BaBs an illogical woman, I swear. :S -
Well, as it appears I'll be pulling an all-nighter at work... I will have to wait until next week to join in the fun.

Quote:Huzzah for happy accidents!I only found this by accident. I used to SA:MP but got very tired of the players being idiots (very young player base-especially compared to myself)
I decided I would try Guild Wars, which I hated. then discov ered a link to this..and the rest... well it's been a great few weeks, not looking forward to Trail running out!

Quote:That's very true. Though I hadn't thought of marketing and new players as much in my OP, here's what I see now...<snip>
So post GR, we'll have:
New graphics
Good, Evil and Neutral starting areas
Moral choice missions
All normal ATs are open to any faction
Invention system
Player created content
Ouroboros flashback system
Power customization
Costume creator
Five years of content updates
I think a list like that on the box would interest quite a few potential new players for sure.
Post-GR will have amazing appeal for new players, but CoH is, for the most part, under-advertised.
Post-GR will have very little appeal for OLD players. Or rather, OLD players wanting to play established (lvl 50) characters. Yes, new characters will get a brand new way to start (much needed), but the end-game appears to remain unchanged. Again, I could be completely wrong and the end-game is completely revolutionized in GR, but... we really don't know that yet. -
Hmmm, I can see that as a possibility. The GR Ultra-Mode putting a new face on things will really make marketing easier (it looks SO pretty from what we've seen). Though... there really wasn't much advertisement when the AE edition hit the shelves either (and THAT was touted as the first-ever feature for user-generated content in a MMO), so... idk.
I do love that the devs work so closely with the established community, I just wish marketing followed their example with the masses. -
Quote:I've always been VERY puzzled why this game doesn't try to get more new players in. If I were a NEW player coming into this game, the amount of content would carry me for quite some time. Five years later is another story, but... still. What about new or potential customers? Where are the ads? Heck, what about the buzz coming off of Hero Con? What about the press coverage from the Going Rogue news by game news outlets?
Marketing is so poor (from what I can see), I literally jumped for joy when I saw a CoV poster in The Big Bang Theory. -
So... I've been around for a while (just hit the 63 month mark). I know plenty of people that have been around as long, if not longer. I love the City of X game, and will likely be around for quite some time to come. There have been quite a few awesome additions to the game over the years and it looks like that trend will continue for a while. That said... I've started to notice a slow trend of exodus of veteran players, nothing alarming really, but I've definitely noticed a slow cool-down in the older players.
I don't see this exodus as mass ragequits or dissatisfaction over the recent issues (though there have been some), and more a slow burn-out. I think there are a variety of reasons for this, but the likely culprits are a general "lack" of end-game content, lack of story updates or the inevitable burn-out from altitis. Perhaps that's all debatable, but my question is...
What do YOU think this game needs to change/update to make you want to come back to it/stay? Or is it fine as is?
Obviously, the upcoming changes in GR are nice (the graphics updates will keep me happy for a while) and we don't know everything that is in it yet, but... if you could wave a magic dev wand (heck, if any DEV could wave a magic wand), what addition or change to the game would help solidify it's staying power?
Personally:
Functionality of bases updated. I know that ties into the PVP, CoP, base-raid mess, but this would help... A LOT for builders' community.
End-game Content (outside of TFs). Other than the Rikti/Hami raids, there really isn't a LOT. More is promised, so... this might already be covered.

For those of us that like to use our noggin, yes. Wikis and FAQs are there for the bored or lazy (or frustrated).

Short answer: no.
Long answer: no, see this RedTomax link. It only drains endurance from foes, nothing is transfered to the character. -
I have played both sets, and though my Electric/ tank is only just lvl 40, I think I have a pretty good grasp of both sets.
As an above poster mentioned, they are completely different sets. Shields are mostly defense (with a smattering of resistance and other mitigation tools), while Electric is PURE resistance, resisting everything but toxic (with a nice regen/recovery/end discount power).
My own personal preference would be Shields, if only because I prefer not getting hit at all... but the set is also a more active defense set (with your status resistance being a click power and Shield Charge being your AoE mitigation). Either way you go though, these are both very strong sets. -
I also got the impression closed beta invites would be going on soon-ish, so we don't have a LOT longer to wait. I wouldn't be surprised if the dev family and friends beta has or is starting soon.

Quote:This is a design challenge that I find very intriguing. Is it possible though to have certain FX *only* visible in Ultra Mode? I assume not, based on what Ultra Mode appears to do, but adding "special features" to some effects would be interesting indeed.Semantics aside, what I meant was that something needs to be visible on all systems...therefore we can't do an effect which relies on a shader that will only be possible on some, or even most systems.
I know one of my first thoughts when seeing the Ultra-Mode water and reflections was ICE ARMOR!!!! Specifically, will the armors be able to reflect and refract like water does? In fact, powers in general intrigue me. Will ice and crystal powers get the same reflection treatment costume parts/windows do? Will powers like Ice armor and the crystal theme for earth control cast shadows at all, or is light refraction a feature we've not seen yet (in ultra-mode)?
So... many... questions...
[edit] Arcanaville beat me to it, and worded her post better to boot. Dang it. -
Hmmm, well, I've never done one of these, so this should be fun. I have an unfortunate talent for getting 3/4 of the way done with a project and then bombing for some reason or another... but this sounds like fun.
<starts brainstorming> -
Feel free to look around my work as well (link in sig). I'm pretty flexible in my style, and am happy to work with what you're looking for, so... there's that
-
I WILL be getting a job that's actually relevant to my career path. Paying the bills is great and all, but experience actually IN the field of 3D art... that'd be a huge benefit/change come 2010.
-
My inside track to the devs (read: my unfounded speculation) hints that we're likely not going to see anything until shortly after the Winter Event ends. Gives everyone a chance to have enjoyed it, gives the devs a chance at a break (maybe), and starts everything off with a fresh, new year.

With my Fire/Psi Dominator, I actually changed both sets to have a pink/golden hue, making everything look like it's psionically-generated fire. Plenty of actual melee psi attacks in that secondary to boot.
-
I'll be migrating several lower-level villains to hero-side, and will likely only ever visit red-side for short periods of time. I really do hate each and ever villain-side zone (aside from the lack of War Walls) and really don't care for the skimpy SF content.
-
Several new sets of auras would be fantastic. There have been VERY few updates to auras, and it'd be nice to see new options.

Quote:<sob>Head's up, I've had to retract my previous statement. I've run into a complete roadblock related to shields and weapons that makes this method I was using un-workable. So it's back to the drawing board with the whole thing.
