  1. Don't worry if the post doesn't fit my question, as everything in here fits the thread name/spirit. I didn't realize I was opening up old wounds, though. A hearty pat on the back and a "There-there." from me.

Here's another one I did many years ago: I took down every Crey Protector I could find, not realizing I needed to hunt Paragon Protectors.

I also remember thinking "How will I know if it's a fake Nemesis?"

So big damage + quick killing is a must for me otherwise I will get bored and ditch them some time or other. My only other 50s are a elec/wp brute and fire/shield scrap, so I'm trying to find a good ranged AT to get to 50.
So I thought Gun Drone was like the Dom pets that adds a *** load of dmg, but I guess not.
Fair enough, and I'm sorry if the implication was at all offensive. So you're more of a powergamer than a concept guy, even though concept is still really important to you.

If you want something really impressive, and can think of the right concept, try a Rad/Fire Blapper. By lvl 20 you'll be tearing everything apart while riding the razor's edge. Great AoE, and some soft control.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but were you orginally an "AE baby"? From your posts it seems like you are trying to reform from such beginnings by asking some good questions, but judging from the above quote some of those attitudes remain the same.

If you wanted good pets, then rolling any blaster was a mistake. By all means, drop a character if it's not fun. However, try to keep an open mind in the case that you discover some other part of the set that just makes you go "YEAH!". I've never had a character turn out exactly the way I had envisioned, but all of them have become fun.

Devices is powerful. If I believed half of the negative garbage I read on these forums, then I never would have even tried some of the awesome stuff I've accomplished. Yesterday I was easily soloing Rikti Heavy Assault Suits with my Energy/Devices Blaster.

Can other sets do it better? Sure! Did my "gimped" guy do it too? Yup. Didn't even break a sweat, either.
  4. Even though it's recent, the Hero Morality Mission versus Doc Quantum. Super cool.
  5. So I'm getting back into badging after a couple years-long hiatus. I'm careful to log my badger into different day jobs, and I'm spending some time to get the "new" exploration badges. "Closest to Completion" gave me the idea to go hunt some Rikti Heavy Assault Suits.

So I fly off to the War Zone, and start blasting all the Heavies I can find (queue experienced badgers groaning...you know where this is going). I check my badge completion, and it says I have defeated 4. I nuke a couple more of the buggers, and it says I have defeated 4.

It looks like only invasion Heavies count.

Anyone else plug away to get a badge, only to realize you weren't fitting the criteria?

Yeah, the rest of the set besides Targeting Drone* stinks.

*& Cloaking Device, Smoke Grenade, Trip Mine, Caltrops, and Web Grenade.

Spend some time with it. You'll learn better!
  7. They don't need more slots, that would probably overpower them. Peacebringers do need some help (and feel free to drop in to those discussions on the Kheldian section).

I think all of our respective (and respectible) positions are based upon our execution of these classes. Both Kheld types change wildly once they get a new power, and it seems like one's perception needs to shift more often than they change forms. For example, my career as a Warshade felt like Blaster>Controller Lite>Scraptroller>Brutenukerbicycle.

I personally have never had an issue with either Peacebringers or Warshades. Sometimes that happens, some personalities just "get" a class. The one that constantly slips through my fingers is Corruptor...and I still don't know why. I know it's not the AT's fault. When I hit a stumbling block on Khelds, I always thought, "What can I do differently?" and always found an agreeable solution.

Kheld's are by no mean easy, but I would love to see them less personality exclusive if you understand me. I don't want people to have to "get" them to love them...but their complexity is primarily what this whole discussion has become, right?

I think a large base of players just don't understand them, and that's not an insult. Their original design is mostly to blame for that. Maybe it's time for a sub-section of the Mentor Program?

I slot ACC and +ToHit on my Energy/Devices. I punch holes in things other blasters spray'n'pray at.

Also, a nice Guassian's Chance for Buildup provides a significant boost every once in awhile.
  9. Why not give Buildup the Fiery Embrace treatment, but with Energy damage?

It's a nice all-around buff that doesn't have to tweak every single power.

If you're delusional, I am too. I have 4 slots, 3 RES (Frankenslots) 1 Perf. Shifter Chance for END. I figure if I'm going to be a "Tanker" then I should get every last drop out of that form.

I'm not saying it's the best method, but he's pretty darn tough as a Dwarf.

No. City of Heroes does not need User Created Addons, and I will fight every chance I get to keep anybody from thinking that this horrible idea is in any way, under any condition, of any form, in any presentation, resembles anything that looks like a good idea.

It is not a good idea. It is just asking for trouble.
WRONG! I mean, you're wrong on other points, but this one is the most twitch-worthy. I've played 2 other MMO's that had 100% customizable UI's (using XML of some sort), and both are still going strong without any notable exploits having popped up from this. Wrong.

I agree that there are some questionable suggestions in the original post, but I cannot stand such wrongness being stated as an absolute truth.
  12. Probably about an 8 across the board.

Give Khelds a somewhat restricted pallette.

I just want to echo this point, too. I got super-frustrated, and bumped up the spawn sizes out of desperation. Complete 180 on effectiveness. No more face-planting for me!

I also want to thank you, Dechs. My WS started to collect dust for no reason in particular. I read the MF'ing Warshade, and for awhile, I couldn't play anything else but a Warshade.

The longer they keep their good ideas away from the competitors, the better. It's not that these ideas can be instantly implemented by other games, it's to maintain Paragon's edge as long as possible.

Fair enough. I was counting on meleers having shields to give them the edge, but I will concede to your point due to having such limited PvP experience. I'm glad you have a point, by the way. Much better than a blanket, vapid, unexplained one-liner that adds nothing at all to the discussion.

My bad ideas aside, I want to repeat that I'm a PvE'er, and I understand some of PvP's pain now. The i13 changes certainly didn't make it fun for me. Hang in there, guys.

I'm not convinced it's something super-groundbreaking. Since certain players didn't really respect the Closed Beta status of Going Rogue, they started to work on a rock-solid NDA. i19 is just around the corner, and their major enhancements were already announced, so the NDA they drafted just wasn't necessary until i20.

    Just a theory.

I said base HP. All +HPMax bonuses would still apply. I can accept that this still may be a bad idea, but I want it shot down for the right things!

It's the only thing I could think of that can "level the field" (which seems to be the dev's intent) that doesn't gut the effectiveness of mezzes/secondary effects.

Hi. PvE player here, and I'd like to finally give some input.

I dabbled in PvP for awhile after i6, but since most of my friends were strictly PvE, I soon lost interest. I tried PvP for the first time since i13 a couple of weeks ago.

It was pure confusion. My powers didn't work at all the same, and I had absolutely no idea what was effective and what wasn't. Before, I'd get slammed by people with more PvP experience, but at least I could expect things to work very similarly to PvE. Even fighting NPC's in the zone was an excersize in frustration.

If the i13 changes were to make this more PvE friendly/accessible, then the goal was not achieved. I'd like to PvP again, but what I experienced wasn't nearly as fun as I remembered.

    My n00blet ideas*:
    • There should be some mechanic that encourages (but not forces!) team play, that way you don't have to neuter mezzes/heals, and other nonsense. Everything can get spread out just like in PvE.
    • Have powers work exactly the same as PvE (maybe shorter duration on select powers).
    • Boost everyone's base HP to the same number. Lack of mez protection, DEF, and RES will take care of balancing the rest.
    • Optional "Hardcore" zones? The super min/maxers can duke it out there for bragging rights, or stalk SO users in the regular zone. Significantly Boost rep/PvP drops (or something) in the Hardcore zone.
*As stated, my experience is really limited. These may already be partially in place and I don't know it, or just terrible ideas. It won't hurt my feelings to have these notions torn apart, but I just wanted my perspective known to the people who might want to hear it!
  21. Disclaimer: I unlocked my Kheldians with my Energy/Devices Blaster, so my perception is a bit different from others.

Positioning myself for an effective knockback is easy for me. The problem I have is that the knockback isn't reliable, and not all powers do it at all. Perhaps that's why some folks have a scattering issue. The KB doesn't go off enough, and when enemies go flying, some people think, "Oh yeah...that has knockback."

I could go either way. Make KB happen more often, or change it to knockDOWN. I like the mitigation and crowd control of KB (like forcing baddies back into debuffs), but it's such a polarizing issue that I can stand KD instead.

How about making Cosmic Balance apply to teammates as well?

Also cut form-changing time in half, please!
  22. In a small way, GG, I envy you. Based on your world view, it seems like you haven't had to make many (if any) hard choices in life.

I hope you never have to, but I would love to see you open up your mind a bit.
