Windows 7?
Thats your problem right there, unless you run Win7 in compatibility mode it doesnt become selectable (blame MS on this one for changing sound engines...) -
*waits the for the EULA to start changing each and every single day when they plan to do something*
-
*starts getting an army of 14 year olds together and forms a bot team*
What?
You mean that I cant do that even though the EULA isnt applicable to minors? -
Quote:Nope, because it also asks that if you are under the age of 18 that you have obtained permission and that the Guardian/Parent/Person over age of 18 has given permission for the minor to agree.Just a vague thought on this general matter, because I know a little bit about contract law in the UK:
To enter into any legally binding contract in the UK, both parties must demonstrably have the "capacity to contract" at the time the contract is agreed. It includes all sorts of requirements (including mental health), but the real kicker is "must be aged 18 or over at the time of entering into the contract".
Which ultimately implies that, within the UK at least, the EULA is NOT binding in any way on any person aged 17 or less.
The entire document is unenforceable on such players.
((Which means that otherwise we could see whole armies of under 18's botting the game away and not allowed to be banned....))
Flip side, if they did get banned, then NCsoft could potentially be open for several complicated court cases if the parents decided to act on behalf of their children. -
Quote:Sorry, but even under the *OLD* EULA there were still some "dubious" clauses in there... which renders your ((edit)) argument a bit strange, as NCsoft would have already given them free reign. One thing that NCSoft -may- have done here, however, is shoot themselves in the foot. I am pretty sure that, if some of the portions of the EULA are illegal, it will void the ENTIRE document in some jurisdictions. It would depend on laws which apply to each individual location, but NCSoft may have just given some people free reign to do anything they want with the game. Such is the penalty they pay for trying to make their document too all-encompassing and overstepping their legal need for control over the use of their software.

Is this a case of "too broad and people get annoyed" and "too focused and you end up with a document about 300 times longer" just to describe every single eventuality and specifics of what they can and cannot do...
((Note: Too many specifics and i reckon that more and more people slip through cracks, as they hadnt done X,Y or Z... whereas a previous clause of "X" (quite wide ranging) would have done the job much better, but it would have *possibly* inferred a wider range of actions as well)) -
Quote:I interpreted the section quoted the same way actually...Blah blah blah, we might check to make sure you're not trying to cheat.
Having played other MMO's, i have seen several ways in which players cheat with bots and macro's and it can be very very hard to tell the difference between a human and a bot in some cases (some bots even use mouse wiggles, pauses, variable time delays between actions to appear more human from a log point of view).
But to gain the "kill" against several bots in the space MMO did require the use of a dedicated team, as well as process monitoring of the client (and everything that linked into it).
Of course, i assume that you are fine with players botting in CoX... just so long as it doesn't affect you.
Note: To monitor any process that links to the game from outside of the game box would require the previously mentioned (cpu, memory etc etc) parts to be monitored...
Quote:When you allow anyone to download executables to your game (every time you install anything) you are giving them a huge amount of access to your computer. They could have code in the download that erased your harddrive if they wanted. That's why you only download from people you trust, because you're giving them access to change your world (figuratively speaking)...
Space faring MMO: boot.ini file went bye bye in one patch (only affected windows XP users)

Just to really wind you up (you are going to hate me for this), I have a GTX560 (non Ti version) and i dont have the same problem as you (running the most up to date drivers from the Nvidia website)
And FYI *any* driver removal tool should generally be ran in safe mode. This is to ensure that there are no file locks on the driver files. -
Quote:I *honestly* cannot think of an MMO that had launched previously or at the same time as WoW that actually had a lifetime subscription offer... Did they even consider doing it seeing as none of the competition had previously done it? Although WoW is popular, at that point in time it wasnt exactly "unique" apart from being more casual orientated (for the main part until you hit the end game *spit*)The problem with the Lifetime sub is it generates a quick influx of cash and then next to nothing (maybe a trickle). There's a reason WoW never did it. They researched and decided the monthly model is sound. Paragon followed the same research and I think it speaks volumes that they want the game to continue long term, not short term. Had they put the Lifetime Sub in I would have been worried.
The first one that springs to my mind was the elvish/small people one. -
Wait, do you have RIVA Tuner or MSI Afterburner installed?
If so, the stats server thingy needs to be not running when you change the settings (or at least have the "application detection level" set to None.
There was an alternate thread about this a while ago (about to head to bed so not searching for it).
If you are running it, remember you can *always* start the game up with Afterburner/Rivatuner not running, change settings, and then start up afterburner with no issues afterwards. -

Although i dont use Winzip anymore, i am incredibly grateful that i no longer use it, especially if this problem crops up.
I now use 7zip for all my compression uses... -
My standard trick is to copy over the pigg files from a live install and delete the checksum file.
Granted, for the test servers *last* patch (the 2.5GB update) if you hadnt installed the test server previously, then there *is* a way around it.
Start up the NCsoft launcher, and let it *start* downloading the files. Stop and exit the launcher (so it is no longer running) and then copy over you pigg files from your *live* installation.
Delete the checksum file and the large (pre allocated) download file, and then restart the launcher.
That way, it rechecks what you have, and then only downloads what you need. It was how i managed to get the beta client downloaded "faster" than normal (ie 3.5GB of data instead of the 6.5GB that it wanted) -
disabling "depth of field" and "ambient occlusion" will improve your frame rate noticably.
Mothership Raids will always get a bit choppy at *some point* or another, just due to the stupid number of effects that go off, and having both of those enabled isnt going to help the situation much. -
Quote:I just checked out 3 of the hybrid MMOs out there on MMORPG.comThen you guys might want to give the good folks over at MMORPG.com, PCgamer.com, G4TV.com, Gamepro.com and all of those other industry/gamer websites who are mislabeling the model as "free-to-play" to set the record straight that's it's actually a HYBRID model. And while you're at it, you may want to give a call to that other company who does hybrid models (not to mention every other company that offers a tiered model) and tell them their marketing their products wrong by calling it "free-to-play."
Just sayin'...market perception is everything...
One is listed as Subscription (had a pretty succesful movie franchise), the other is Free2Play (has had 2 pretty lousy films based on them).
The other Superhero game out there... that is listed as N/A for subscription.
All of them are hybrid..... -
Although I do get it *rarely* i find that AOE's are excellent for sorting it out.
It is a problem i have suffered from other games as well -
Quote:So he got quite a few off you then?I just wanna thank Kelandra for a great event and I had a blast on the sunday. Totally fantastic and great to meet so many people who I know even if only indirectly.
Thanks also to Kendai and Tenebris as my erstwhile welcoming committee and to the rest of you for a fab time.
Great to put names to faces too. I apologise in advance for not remembering you all individually - lots to take in.
PS... if you are over 12 you get to give Kendai a slap every time he says "old man" cuz he's really only 11 ;-) -

Quote:Aye, although i have to admit it does prove that you should *never* discuss idea's in a pub...5.5 hours of teamwipey fun. I mean that, it was actually fun, in the context of a 5.5 hour TF full of Defeat All Rularuu, Defeat All Crey, Defeat All Rularuu & Crey and Defeat All Rularuu on an Oranbega Map Over 1 Mile North of Talos Station missions.
Would not do again. Still a good laugh.
Thanks to everyone who took part in it, and considering the amount of crashing that we had (whilst zoning), I am surprised that we managed to complete it so fast... especially considering that we were 7 manning it at several stages due to people heading off for food.
DAMN THAT LAST MAP THOUGH!
Thanks to Kall for organizing it, and also thanks to Spad for getting there early on the friday to double check the machines... i actually think that we ended up with more people taking their own PC's than those who actually showed up (And props to Judgement Dave for confusing all of us when he thought that his laptop didnt have a network port, but that was due to him plugging his mouse into it)
Now... who is up for the other SSTF's and the Abandoned Sewer Trial? -
-
I just go for my trusted "tell me you arent planning to do that" stare...
Sods law, it does it *right then*. -
Plan for friday night:
6pm till ?: The Square Peg
? till late: To be decided... depends on other people's plans -
