I mean we (the EU players) was assured again, and again, and again, and again, before the serverlist-merge that we where not going to be too heavily affected by changed maint-times and we would "not be treated as second class players"... but the FACT is, that we ARE being treated as such and your promises has fallen flat on our heads..
Sorry, but from my point of view, with the exception of the downtimes that overran or were beyond 4 hours in duration, i still feel that the downtimes are aimed to not affect EU prime time.

VERY rarely have they actually aimed for a downtime to actually start in EU peak time and proceed from there... practically every single occasion that it has affected EU peak time it has been due to an overrun of a shorter downtime, or it was an extended downtime (ie more than 6 hours in length).

This is why i actually dont get wound up over the "But you promised that we wouldnt get downtimes in our peak time"...

Hell, i remember when the game launched that our downtimes were *generally* in the time range that we are having now, and this was also to match up with the US playerbase for when Issues/general patches were released (we also had at that point in time our own patches to cope with the differences in client).

Our old "regular" downtimes were from 8am till 10am, and Wentworths/Blackmarket would go down on Mondays and Fridays between the hours of 2pm and 4pm (to match with the US downtimes).

Ok, so now the *regular* downtime has shifted foward by 4 hours (12 midday till 2pm), and it wont hit peak time unless there were problems...

*shrugs* Yes, this one sucks, and i do think that for all 8/10/12+ hour downtimes... but i honestly do not think that the EU are being unfairly picked on... (Ok, more competitions that we can enter would be nice, more official player meets as well )

Hell for once think about the poor Oceanic players....

Sorry, i actually dont feel that way (concerning the downtime side.. other stuff, yes i do).

Because strangely enough, we are *still* playing with some veterans of the game who have *always* seemed to end up with getting their game time screwed over the years, even as the developers change the downtime.

I *personally* think that any "short" downtime which ends before 4pm is a "good" downtime for the EU player base, but the ones that last much longer beyond that are bad for the EU playerbase.

*HOWEVER* the longer downtime periods, much harder to get a sensible timeframe on... and so i am not annoyed over them, i do get slightly tetchy over the "short" downtimes that overrun into EU peak time though by several hours.....

There was a "cursor pack" out there, that changed the stock CoX cursors to something more noticible for you... i tried to search for it, but i couldnt find the thread in the 1st 500 results, maybe someone else can chime in and help out on this one.

And the no support on forums, only email...that's just weird. Even indie games give support on their forums. If you are too understaffed to keep up with the problems in the forums, how can you keep up with multiple emails over the same problems? I'm not trying to be sarcastic or offensive here, I honestly don't understand the angle.
No, its no *official* support via the forums. Sometimes there are the exceptions to the rule, but dont come posting in here expecting a red name to always reply to your post/thread.

If "red name" tech support were expected to reply to every single tech support request, they would actually spend more time reading the forums and not helping people. That is why they have the email support section, which allows them to *focus* their help towards those. There is also the NCsoft support site as well as the forums, as well as ingame methods for reporting bugs/tech issues. The NCsoft support site i use if it is something that the "forum users" cannot solve... which thankfully hasnt been all that much.

(note: Forum users are only about 10% of the playing population, so i would imagine that they get far more requests for help from ingame than out of game).

Also, on the flip side, with it being on the forums, there is a greater pool of people to help solve the problem (the users in this case), so in some cases problems can be resolved *before* a red name replies to it, so even if it was solved, a red name would still have to read the thread to make sure that it was resolved. If the person doesnt reply to the email, then you could just as easily say that the person doesnt need help, and so you dont need to help them.

And until the player base actually starts marking forum threads correctly, this section is a total hodge podge of tech support/bugs/other issues, and to be honest, it can be a bit of work to also chase up on every single issue that happens here.
  4. Are you using the new NCsoft Launcher or the old style CoX launcher?

Download the new launcher from http://us.ncsoft.com/en/launcher/ncsoft-launcher.html as the old one has been discontinued
  5. This isnt about the purchasable slots, but about the ones that you can earn ingame.

I got my character to 50, and the 1st thing that i do is the Tailor missions and the Halloween salvage hand in.

BUT i only have 4 costume slots available and not 5

The only thing that i can think of that *might* have been a problem was that i handed in the founders falls tailor mission after i handed in the halloween salvage mission.

Bleah, and now all of them wont give me anything to do to get the 5th costume slot.

The reason why it *might* not be fixed is because they havent been able to reproduce it...

And yes, I have had replies to /bug asking me for more information in the past
  8. To be honest, even under the *old* tutorial, inspiration combining was never mentioned either.

The new tutorial i have ran through on all my new characters, the old one i did a few times in total because i found it *overly* long and annoying to spend to long in.
  9. QR: What is your performance in Praetoria as well? Atlas park has been redone to use the same tech as Praetoria

Also i tend to turn off the Ambient Occlusion, Bloom and other "fuzzy" effects, just to keep my framerate up as smooth as i can.
  10. The *only* thing i can think of is that they fudged the September reward to give them an extra month to work out any possible internal problems that they might have right now (they just didnt talk about it).

I am due my 4 year award on Monday (so 2 reward tokens and 400 points for me), so it will be interesting to say the least (will let you guys know on the Tuesday though)

I should also get a token when I spend money on a subscription then, yes? Not when the subscription is over. That would be like me purchasing 1200 points and then not getting a token until I'd spent all those points, or something.

I was going to give it a few days before making any fuss over it, though, seeing as how the transition only just occurred. But here we are with a post, so I figured I'd chime in with my experience.
It goes off the *time* at which your are billed to work out when the end of your month is.

So give it a few hours. I typically resub to the game at *strange* hours of the night, so i typically get my rewards early in the EU morning. But when i have resubbed late at night, and then cancelled the sub... i have still been able to play most of the day and late into the night until i hit the "time" that i had initially subbed and then got kicked from the game.

The only downside with the NCsoft page, is that it doesnt tell you what time you subbed >.<

note: They do it this way, because if they decided to kick all people whose subscription expires that day at a time of their choosing, it means that *some* people could in theory have 23hours 59minutes and 59 seconds wiped off.

Would you like a company charge you $15 for 29 days (whilst everyone got 30 days) sub just because you signed up at *exactly* the same time as their kicking script?

This is why *most* companies dont do it that way....

Aye, stating what the problem you were having would have helped, because on all of the machines that i have access to, i dont actually suffer any problem with the NClauncher.

I have mine set to close when i launch a program and not loading with Windows.

Looking at the online manual i can find for your motherboard, it can support DDR2 800Mhz RAM (aka PC2-6400 RAM).

Pick up 2 x 2GB sticks, that would take you up to 8GB usable *once* you pick up a 64bit version of Windows 7.

So ask for DDR2 800Mhz. If you are unsure of what the person hands you, look for PC2-6400 on the packaging (it normally gets hidden amongst the item description). As long as that it there, you are golden.

    So remember 2 sticks of 2GB DDR2 800Mhz ram.

I just hope that someone can also post, as i have had a few to drink, and would like some reassurance on all of this as well (Yeah, i have built all of my own PC's and i still like reassurance sometimes)
  18. CPU-Z will give you the information on the "mainboard" tab of the program.

Look further down on the page i linked to earlier on for CPU-Z and there are images available to show you what each tab does.

The tabs that you would be interested in are the Mainboard, because from the model number, we can tell you how much RAM you can fit in...

That is fair enough, at least you have a seperate PC as your "backup" pc if anything goes wrong and you need to look up stuff to help you out.

Generally speaking, i will *always* run an Antivirus/Firewall combination, even if you only game on it. This is because websites are *not* 100% secure and they can be compromised. If you end up getting a virus onto your computer, then you *would* be wishing you had an Antivirus/Spyware/Firewall installed.

Try using the built in Windows Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials (once you get Windows 7 installed). MSE is not installed by default (to give people the choice of using it, but considering that it is free, it does its job admirably.

Ok my question is, if I go down to Fry's Electronics and buy Windows 7. Do they just give me a disk and I just put that into the CPU and it will install itself after a few clicks and format everything? Is it that simple? Do I need a disk with all the drivers for my hardware such as the motherboard, or processor whatever?
Pretty much the 1st case, as Windows 7 is pretty much one click and go to get the *basics* up and running using generic drivers. Once you are past that stage, you are then able to download the "specific" drivers for your computer and carry on from there.

Without knowing your specific motherboard model i cannot directly link to what drivers you would need to download to get everything actually working properly (as i said, Windows 7 will run with generic drivers included, but sometimes the manufacturer has better specific ones available).

This is where a USB memory stick/freshly burnt CD/DVD (with the downloaded drivers for graphics card, sound card and motherboard) are handy. Will save you time as well in the long run having them already at hand.

    Quote:
I am not sure what dual channel or triple channel means? Can you say that in layman terms?
Dual Channel and Triple Channel is where you need 2 (or 3) sticks of RAM respectively to get the speed benefits of the RAM (basically a single stick of Dual Channel ram will run slower than 2 sticks of same size Dual channel Ram, as they are able to work better together. Triple channel requires 3 sticks to get the benefit.

    Quote:
I am also looking to go to at least 8 gig ram maybe 10 gig. How do I know what RAM is currently in my CPU?
Without knowing the motherboard fitted, it would be hard to say what the maximum you can fit is.

You can use CPU-Z (free download look on the right hand side of the page for download link) to tell you how many RAM slots you have available.

*GENERALLY* you are looking to go in powers of 2 for how much RAM you can fit.

ie 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, 16GB. Most motherboards have either 2 or 4 RAM slots, and remembering that you should ideally have the sticks of RAM in pairs, i would say that 8GB would be best for you.

This is assuming you have 4 RAM slots:

    2 x 2GB (already owned)
2 x 2GB (need to buy). As long as you buy the same "speed" ram (in this case PC2-6400 RAM) you shouldn't have any problems.

If you only have 2 slots available, stick with what you have, and install windows 7 64bit on it, and get the full advantage of the RAM and GFX card you have.

((Note: I am not 100% sure if this happens just on changing the subscription card, or if the tick box only appears on the purchasing screen once you buy a booster... i havnt changed my card recently, and i dont keep my card on file either))

Sometimes that helps "kick" the launcher up into gear, especially if your "typical" download is far higher.

The other thing to look at is your ISP.

The reason why i say this is because the downloader in general is faster for the 90% of users and those (that i know of personally) who havent had an improvement in their download are with "worse" ISP's in the UK

Not to mention as well that they changed the actual file structure of the pigg files (as Posi said in the Ustream chat)

So although the *files* themselves inside the pigg's might not have changed bit wise, their location has, and a "binary" patcher would still end up redownloading the pigg.

If they hadnt changed the pigg file structure, then i am pretty certain that the patch wouldnt have been as *large*

It would have still been around the 1.5-2GB filesize... but i would imagine that they were also starting to hit the "limits" on the practicalities of their old pigg file ordering system.

*Which we will not name, but may have included classic MMO design, pretty wings, and lots of grinding.
Not to mention as well that depending on your firewall/antivirus set up, you could bluescreen just loading the game up (Avira AntiVirus/Comodo Firewall for me IIRC).

Oh, and it wouldnt even load the game up if you had ProcessExplorer running before hand.

It actually got removed *before* the launch of the game though due to how "ineffective" it was.

Shame that their older title (also well known for extreme grinding) still ran with Gameguard for a while.

Gameguard was/is used in other MMO's/F2P games out there... especially those from Asia, so it *wasn't* all that surprising that NCsoft decided to license it and use it... shame that it is generally regarded to being non effective and easy to disable as well
