Well it seems like the verdict isn't out on Staff Fighting just yet, so looks like I may have to wait a bit for that. I was suprised to hear that War Mace has garnered such praise. I've never tried the set but thought it was basically the same as Battle Axe.
So it seems the general consensus is that Titan Weapons does very good damage. Claws and Katana are also up there. How is Broad Sword? I see some have listed it as equal to Katana, while others show it with Battle Axe.
I'm also looking for info on each set's niche. So far I know that Katana and Broad Sword have the +def component, and that Dual Blades has combos. I also know that claws contains attacks that recharge quickly, some ranged attacks, and good aoe dps. -
With the release of Titan Weapons and Staff Fighting, I was wondering how all the melee weapon sets stack up against each other. So I was hoping for some helpful info on the following sets:
Battle Axe
Broadsword
Claws
Dual Blades
Katana
Staff Fighting
Titan Weapons
War Mace -
Thanks for the responses. I usually go with So's so I can solo easier without spending too much. I recently just IO'd my first character but I had to save up nearly a billion to do it. So I was just thinking about starting a PB or WS and wasnt sure which to pick. So I tried both and I like both of them. I think I'll play the PB first to 50 and then the WS.
-
Was wondering how well PBs and WSs work on just SOs. How do they compare? And if anyone has a build for eithier would you mind posting it? Much appreciated.
-
@Cobbon if you don't mind. Thank you!
-
Amazing. Wish I could do this kind of stuff.
-
Anyone know the colors that the Resistance use on thier armor? Both the brown and blue versions by chance?
-
I really like that build, I think that is the one I'll go with when I19 comes. Thank you very much everyone.
-
Oh shoot sorry, I just realized I posted the same build twice. Here is the other build that I meant to put up before.

Quote:Sorry I'm a little confused, but I'm guessing you are talking about the first build. So then is the second one any better?Big problem with your latest build: you have the numina unique in Dull Pain. That means you'll only get the regen bonus when you activate DP! Switch that whole set out for Doctored Wounds (it'll give the power better recharge), and plop the unique into health. You'll actually get more mileage out of the unique than the generic health IO you have slotted in there. Crazy, huh?
-
Quote:Okay, yeah I figured it wasn't that great but in the begining I thought I had extra power slots but then realized after everyone pointed it out that I had forgot taunt.Problem is, you have to take a prereq to get Physical Perfection, either CP or Focused Accuracy. FA is a huge end hog, and most of its benefits replicable with a couple of IOs. So IMO, if you want to keep Physical Perfection, CP is the better option.
Of course, I don't think Physical Perfection is necessary, either, so you might want to consider dropping the Energy pool entirely.
So anyway, I made a few slight tweaks to Doctor Xaxan's revision and came up with this:

I also decided to just restart it completely to fit in most of the suggestions like adding in taunt and whirling hands:
So the main diffrences between the two is that the first has a few percent less S/L defense, a few percent more F/C and Psi defense, 1% less E/N, 3% less melee, 6% more aoe, same resistances pretty much, and more regen, hp and end recov.
The only thing the second really has over the first a much larger damage bonus, but I'm not sure if that really matters seeing as how the first has better damage in its slotting.
Also, I pretty much decided to get rid of the energy powers, I figure I can throw them back in to make use of the fitness slots after I19 and just throw an IO in each. I'll prob throw in stealth for this purpose too. Seems like a good plan to me.
Feel free to revise them or post your own as well. Just trying to perfect a build. I'm not really looking to solo Av's, I'd like to know if its possible, maybe for an alternate build. Primarily, I'd like to be able to function on pretty much all aspects of pve. Hopefully being able to solo missions if I need to, able to be effective on team raids, and not having much trouble in general. -
Quote:Alright sounds good, I will drop conserve power than, thank you. With the amount of recovery you have, i'd say conserve power is something you'll almost never use. But if you drop it, keep Physical Perfection. and try to dedicate a slot to End Mod (even if it's just the performance Shifter Proc).
As for energy punch, i -think- you read wrong (I might be wrong about you being wrong =P): It doesn't have better DPS... it has better DPA (damage per activation). That is, for the amount of time it takes to activate (8/10ths of a second), its 44 points of base damage is slightly better than Bone Smasher, which takes twice as long to activate, but doesn't quite do twice as much damage. It also recharges twice as fast, and uses about 2/3rds the endurance.
So basically, without enhancements, if you spammed both powers, you'd end up doing more damage and hitting more often with Energy Punch. What mitigates this is that Bone Smasher simply does more up-front damage and has a higher stun rating. If an enemy had 70 HP left, you'd have to attack them twice with EP. Or, just use BS once.
As for the autos: they used to be considered skippable; however, they've had their values increased so that enhancing them gives decent numbers, AND they have secondary effects: End drain resistance and slow resistance, which are useful against many late-level mobs like Arachnos, Carnies, Malta, and Knives. Also, layered protection is Invuln's main strength. Good defenses, but if something gets through, then you have the res to shrug it off. And if you can't do that, you have a self heal. Skimping out on any of these will only weaken your overall survivability.
As for i19, i didn't mean that you should respec into a build that doesn't have fitness... i19 is still months away and you'll be in pain trying to play until then. I just mean hold off on your respec all together. You'll have access to 3 more powers, but you're already starved for slots. Perhaps taking the stealth pool and using the powers to "mule" lotg + recharge IOs would be a good idea. You only need the initial slot, and as a bonus, you can buff your teammates by giving them invisibility =) Also, Castle has SAID that we won't be getting more slots... I'm inclined to beleive him, but the devs have told us lots of things but eventually changed their minds OR were holding out for a surprise OR they caved in to popular demand. So with that in mind, if we DO get just a few more slots, that can change your build plans radically, which is why i suggested holding out for now.
Maybe start buying stuff you need. Bid low, your bids will fill eventually. Stockpile stuff in your base. Play more, get drops, collect what you need. No need to do everything at once =)
As for AVs: You can survive against them, but doing enough damage to overcome their regen? Not gonna happen unless you take more attacks =/
When I go into Mids it says the dpa on energy punch is 44.9, but when I click view dps, it says its 9.211. Unless they are reversed so that when you click it is actually showing the opposite. Not sure.
Okay, cool I will keep them then.
Yeah, I understand that it will become inherent when I19 hits, so I was going to hold off till then. My char is only 49 but I should be 50 within the week. Sadly though this is my first 50 after years of playing, hence why this is the first char I'm making a build and asking advice for. Stealth pool seems like a great idea. Sucks no slots are being added. Well unless the incarnate system lets you gain more like has been said. But no idea how long that will take.
Oh, but is AV soloing possible with any Inv/em build? Or would it just be a standstill no matter what?
Taking the advice into account with my next version is taking a bit, but I'll have it up when I finish it. -
On working on a revision, I thought of a few things. Do you guys think that conserve power is really that useful? I wasn't sure if it was really neccessary anyway, just wasn't sure what to replace it with. Same goes for physical perfection. I guess from what the suggestions have said is that I should probaly replace them with Whirling hands and taunt.
Also, I was looking at dps, and mids says that energy punch is actually best. Was pretty confused at this. Is energy punch even worth having? Also do I really need the resist energy/element autos?
Finally, I guess I will wait until I19 and just work on getting more inf until then. But what should I use in place of fitness powers? Oh and one more question, is it even possible to solo av's with these powersets?
Thanks again to all of you. You have all been extremely helpful! -
Thank you very much for all the help. Made a lot of stupid mistakes without realizing it until you guys pointed them out. Anyway I tweaked it and tried to incorporate as many suggestions as possible. I was also able to increase my funds to 800 mill and will prob be able to get more. I threw in some Mako's Bite for the added damage increase over touch of death. Is that better for an invuln to use? Overall the new build has 30% less regen but the defenses are a bit more even across the board. Also has a nice damage bonus of 14%.

Anyway was looking for any suggestions for improvements. Its purely a pve build. Also This is my first toon to IO, and I've saved up about 600 mill on Virtue, not really sure if I can afford this build or not. I'm clueless when it comes to buying them so any help with that would be much appreciated as well. -
Trigun (+1)
Death Note (+1)
FLCL (+1)
Hellsing OVA (+1)
Dragonball Z (+1)
Naruto (+1)
Cowboy Bepop (+1)
Elfen Lied (+1)
Fullmetal Alchemist (-1)
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (+1) (Liking this a lot better than the first FMA anime.)
Also add:
YuYu Hakusho -
Personally I think its about time a polearm set was added. Sure it would prob be another lethal damage set, but it would be nice to see things like a bo staff, halberd, and spear availible as weapons.

Here is the build, not sure how to put it the long way. Anyway could use some help. Looking to try and solo AV's. Cost is not much of a problem.

Looking to start a new scrapper. Wondering which is better. Looking mainly for PVE, but just for reference, which would be better at PVE, PVP, and AV soloing? Thanks in advance, just resubbed today, haven't played for a year.
-
I really liked the second one, I think its perfect, many thanks.
-
Unbeknowst to all, Lumberjacks > than pirates and ninjas alike.
-
Any one, I've been entertaining them all, perhaps thats why it's been somewhat difficult making a costume I am satisfied with. The last one I feel would be the best, as it just seems to have more options.
