Anyway was looking for any suggestions for improvements. Its purely a pve build. Also This is my first toon to IO, and I've saved up about 600 mill on Virtue, not really sure if I can afford this build or not. I'm clueless when it comes to buying them so any help with that would be much appreciated as well.

Some things as they come to mind:

-- Don't slot Bone Smasher as a stun. It's one of your best sources of damage.

-- See if you can fit in Whirling Hands. It might be a crappy AOE, but it's the only one you've got short of epics.

-- I wouldn't spend the money for Touch of Death sets. What you need is Type Defense (defense vs. smashing, lethal, fire, etc) not Position Defense (melee, ranged, AOE). Touch of Death is a great set for super reflexes, shield defense, etc, but not really worth it for Invulnerability.

-- Dull Pain is way underslotted. Six slot that baby with either Numina's or Doctored Wounds.

-- Resist Physical Damage is also overslotted. It's a passive power and doesn't need endurance or recharge reduction.

-- Try to 3-slot Hasten with recharge reduction. The more often you have it going, the more you'll have Dull Pain going. It's a 2-for-1.

-- Blessing of the Zephyr is meh. You don't need that knockback protection and those defense bonuses can be gotten elsewhere. Just put Winter's Gift slow resist unique in the default slot and call it done.

Hmm...

Why did you use the Blessing of The Zephyr set in Super Jump? You don't need the KB protection on an invuln (plus the kb prot would only be active while SJ was on), and the defenses don't really add much, and you could use the slots elsewhere. Sure, keep BotZ +move and +move/end, but get rid of the special, it does you no good!

Other than that, you don't have taunt OR an AoE attack. You're going to have to work to keep agro as I'm not sure your aura will be enough to keep baddie's attention when everyone else on the team is out-damaging you. And I may be elitist, but i'd never invite a tauntless tank on a Master run for any task force, or a new trial/TF where we won't know what we're up against.

With the fitness pool becoming inherent in i19, you'll have 3 more powers at your disposal, but no more slots to use in them. I'd say save up your inf until then to see how that'll affect your proposed build.

Also, I see that you're at least a 4 year vet, so you should have some vet powers.. still, this build looks like it won't exemp very well, with only TWO attacks until level 35! (okay, three, but you have one slotted with a stun set so it won't do ANY extra damage at ALL! I'd switch the slotting on Bone Smasher and Boxing, just so it's useful. Boxing sucks no matter how you slice it) I don't know if that's a concern for you, but wait till you see "Posi TF lf tank!" in the global tf channel and all of a sudden you realize you wouldn't be bringing anything to that team, and, well... it's kind of deflating to one's ego.

Weave might be over-slotted. You're dedicating 5 slots to a power and only getting an extra THREE PERCENT (from 5 to 7.999) boost out of it! Removing Def/End/Rech and Def/Rech still gives you a rating of 7.059! Reassign those two slots elsewhere, they're only giving you 0.94% defense! Certainly extra recharge or extra attack power or extra regen is far more important than that? (okay, keep one for the 9% accuracy bonus, but the hold res bonus is completely meaningless!)

All in all, you look VERY sturdy, but lack utility. That may be the price of soft-capping, but my own Invuln/EM has Whirling Hands, Taunt, and laser eyes... granted, she doesn't have as high defense numbers or as high of a regen rating, but those are all mitigated by teammates or a small inspiration. I have no problem keeping agro, never wishing i had X type of power, and i can still laugh in STF Lord Recluse's face. Just food for thought!

[edit- rats, i type too slow!]

-STEELE =)

Allied to all sides so that no matter what, I'll come out on top!
Oh, and Crimson demands you play this arc-> Twisted Knives (MA Arc #397769)

Thank you very much for all the help. Made a lot of stupid mistakes without realizing it until you guys pointed them out. Anyway I tweaked it and tried to incorporate as many suggestions as possible. I was also able to increase my funds to 800 mill and will prob be able to get more. I threw in some Mako's Bite for the added damage increase over touch of death. Is that better for an invuln to use? Overall the new build has 30% less regen but the defenses are a bit more even across the board. Also has a nice damage bonus of 14%.

I took your revision and moved some things around. Softcapped it to S/L, gave the attacks and other things better (in my opinion) slotting.

It's definitely coming along.

...Although I'm worried that you have no AOE, no ranged powers, and no Taunt power.

Soft-capping S/L on a Invul/EM is relatively easy; E/NE is a lot tougher even if you take Whirling Hands.

Here's my current Invul/EM build, which gets very close to soft-capping (43%) E/NE by way of some sneaky slotting. This build has Air Sup/Fly, but you could certainly swap them out for CJ/SJ, which would probably get you to the soft cap for E/NE. Honestly, I don't think CP/PP is necessary, though it's an option if you really want the extra recovery.

On working on a revision, I thought of a few things. Do you guys think that conserve power is really that useful? I wasn't sure if it was really neccessary anyway, just wasn't sure what to replace it with. Same goes for physical perfection. I guess from what the suggestions have said is that I should probaly replace them with Whirling hands and taunt.

Also, I was looking at dps, and mids says that energy punch is actually best. Was pretty confused at this. Is energy punch even worth having? Also do I really need the resist energy/element autos?

Finally, I guess I will wait until I19 and just work on getting more inf until then. But what should I use in place of fitness powers? Oh and one more question, is it even possible to solo av's with these powersets?

Thanks again to all of you. You have all been extremely helpful!

With the amount of recovery you have, i'd say conserve power is something you'll almost never use. But if you drop it, keep Physical Perfection. and try to dedicate a slot to End Mod (even if it's just the performance Shifter Proc).

As for energy punch, i -think- you read wrong (I might be wrong about you being wrong =P): It doesn't have better DPS... it has better DPA (damage per activation). That is, for the amount of time it takes to activate (8/10ths of a second), its 44 points of base damage is slightly better than Bone Smasher, which takes twice as long to activate, but doesn't quite do twice as much damage. It also recharges twice as fast, and uses about 2/3rds the endurance. ..actually, it sounds like it DOES have better DPS, then. Ah, w/e, my brain hurts now!

So basically, without enhancements, if you spammed both powers, you'd end up doing more damage and hitting more often with Energy Punch. What mitigates this is that Bone Smasher simply does more up-front damage and has a higher stun rating. If an enemy had 70 HP left, you'd have to attack them twice with EP. Or, just use BS once.

As for the autos: they used to be considered skippable; however, they've had their values increased so that enhancing them gives decent numbers, AND they have secondary effects: End drain resistance and slow resistance, which are useful against many late-level mobs like Arachnos, Carnies, Malta, and Knives. Also, layered protection is Invuln's main strength. Good defenses, but if something gets through, then you have the res to shrug it off. And if you can't do that, you have a self heal. Skimping out on any of these will only weaken your overall survivability.

As for i19, i didn't mean that you should respec into a build that doesn't have fitness... i19 is still months away and you'll be in pain trying to play until then. I just mean hold off on your respec all together. You'll have access to 3 more powers, but you're already starved for slots. Perhaps taking the stealth pool and using the powers to "mule" lotg + recharge IOs would be a good idea. You only need the initial slot, and as a bonus, you can buff your teammates by giving them invisibility =) Also, Castle has SAID that we won't be getting more slots... I'm inclined to beleive him, but the devs have told us lots of things but eventually changed their minds OR were holding out for a surprise OR they caved in to popular demand. So with that in mind, if we DO get just a few more slots, that can change your build plans radically, which is why i suggested holding out for now.

Maybe start buying stuff you need. Bid low, your bids will fill eventually. Stockpile stuff in your base. Play more, get drops, collect what you need. No need to do everything at once =)

As for AVs: You can survive against them, but doing enough damage to overcome their regen? Not gonna happen unless you take more attacks =/

-STEELE =)

Allied to all sides so that no matter what, I'll come out on top!
Oh, and Crimson demands you play this arc-> Twisted Knives (MA Arc #397769)

Alright sounds good, I will drop conserve power than, thank you.

When I go into Mids it says the dpa on energy punch is 44.9, but when I click view dps, it says its 9.211. Unless they are reversed so that when you click it is actually showing the opposite. Not sure.

Okay, cool I will keep them then.

Yeah, I understand that it will become inherent when I19 hits, so I was going to hold off till then. My char is only 49 but I should be 50 within the week. Sadly though this is my first 50 after years of playing, hence why this is the first char I'm making a build and asking advice for. Stealth pool seems like a great idea. Sucks no slots are being added. Well unless the incarnate system lets you gain more like has been said. But no idea how long that will take.

Oh, but is AV soloing possible with any Inv/em build? Or would it just be a standstill no matter what?

Taking the advice into account with my next version is taking a bit, but I'll have it up when I finish it.

Problem is, you have to take a prereq to get Physical Perfection, either CP or Focused Accuracy. FA is a huge end hog, and most of its benefits replicable with a couple of IOs. So IMO, if you want to keep Physical Perfection, CP is the better option.

Of course, I don't think Physical Perfection is necessary, either, so you might want to consider dropping the Energy pool entirely.

Okay, yeah I figured it wasn't that great but in the begining I thought I had extra power slots but then realized after everyone pointed it out that I had forgot taunt.

So anyway, I made a few slight tweaks to Doctor Xaxan's revision and came up with this:

I also decided to just restart it completely to fit in most of the suggestions like adding in taunt and whirling hands:

So the main diffrences between the two is that the first has a few percent less S/L defense, a few percent more F/C and Psi defense, 1% less E/N, 3% less melee, 6% more aoe, same resistances pretty much, and more regen, hp and end recov.

The only thing the second really has over the first a much larger damage bonus, but I'm not sure if that really matters seeing as how the first has better damage in its slotting.

Also, I pretty much decided to get rid of the energy powers, I figure I can throw them back in to make use of the fitness slots after I19 and just throw an IO in each. I'll prob throw in stealth for this purpose too. Seems like a good plan to me.

Feel free to revise them or post your own as well. Just trying to perfect a build. I'm not really looking to solo Av's, I'd like to know if its possible, maybe for an alternate build. Primarily, I'd like to be able to function on pretty much all aspects of pve. Hopefully being able to solo missions if I need to, able to be effective on team raids, and not having much trouble in general.

Big problem with your latest build: you have the numina unique in Dull Pain. That means you'll only get the regen bonus when you activate DP! Switch that whole set out for Doctored Wounds (it'll give the power better recharge), and plop the unique into health. You'll actually get more mileage out of the unique than the generic health IO you have slotted in there. Crazy, huh?

Also, your attacks that you franken-slotted: I'd recommend Crushing Impact: Acc/Dam/Rech (opposed to dam/end/rech), as you don't have any acc bonuses to speak of, and you're only slotted in each for like 40% Damage is great, but missing sucks!

If you want a pre-req to Physical Perfection, i'll throw a hat in for FA. It's nice against stealthy enemies, plus with your sub-par acc bonus/slotting, you may need the help. Problem is that it's a rather end-expensive toggle. Slap an End Redux in it and make sure to switch it off when it's not in use!

Other than that, you've got a really nice looking build there! I'd trade build-up for Whirling Hands... it's effect is duplicated with a couple inspirations or team-mates, but no one can give you any AoE attacks... or maybe you could switch out Energy Transfer or Total Focus? I mean, if you're good hitting taunt and switching targets, then great! Whirling Hands IS a rather lousy power, but it's the only AoE you've got access to (aside from energy torrent, which is highly counter-productive as it knocks foes away from you). If you're good without it, then ok, but more versatility never hurt!

Energy Torrent in the Tanker/Scrapper masteries does knockDOWN, not knockback, specifically so that it doesn't knock foes away from a melee player. Energy Torrent in other pools/sets still does knockback, so confusion is understandable.

Sorry I'm a little confused, but I'm guessing you are talking about the first build. So then is the second one any better?

I believe you used a full set of Numina's in DP in both builds.

Though Steele and I disagree on the CP/FA issue, we do agree on that putting the Numina unique in DP is a bad idea; move it to Health. I prefer Doctored Wounds (either 5 or 6 slots) for DP instead, because they have good bonuses and will fully slot DP for Heal and Recharge.

Some other issues:

If you're not getting Physical Perfection, I strongly recommend that you drop the Energy pool altogether and pick up Whirling Hands. For two reasons: it'll be your only AoE attack and if you get it, you can slot Eradication in it to get closer to soft-capping E/NE.

Drop the Endurance slot from TI; it doesn't need that much end reduction and the .63% F/C defense is not worth slotting for. You'd be better off using that as a fourth slot in Invinc.

If you're looking to save slots, use 3 slots of Aegis or Reactive Armor (Res, Res/End, Res/Rchg) in the passives, since they don't need end reduction and being slightly underslotted won't matter much there.

You're taking Boxing and Tough much earlier than you need to; I'd delay them until the 20s at least, which will give you room to take Taunt and Whirling Hands sooner.

Mako's Bite is not a great choice for typed defense since the S/L bonus is relatively small for the amount of slots you need. A full set of MakoÂ’s also doesnÂ’t get you to the ED cut-off for damage, so consider using 50s or slotting it in a lower level power where being a little underslotted for damage wonÂ’t be much of a problem.

HereÂ’s what I would do with your build; with sufficient end reduction in your attacks, the recovery unique and some other recovery bonuses, I donÂ’t think you need either CP or PP. Note that I swapped out one set of Kinetic Combat for Smashing Haymaker, which will save you a lot of influence. YouÂ’re still soft-capped for S/L, but I donÂ’t think thereÂ’s much need to go over that on an Invul since youÂ’re going to have more defense than that from Invinc once you have two foes in melee range.

Hoookay.

Way too much S/L defense. Remember, Invinc will give you more defense everytime you face more than one foe.

Obliteration is not a good choice for several reasons: 1) it's a lot of slots for relatively little return 2) the Oblit set is very low in end reduction, 3) Eradication gives E/NE defense, and much better return for your slots, and 4) you don't NEED that S/L def. Look what I did with the last build I posted and slot Eradication plus two slots from another set so you get enough end reduction.

Stamina is underslotted; you're going to need to free up at least another slot for it; two would be better.

That fifth slot in RPD is completely wasted. For one thing, RPD doesn't need end reduction at all, let alone 80%; for another, you're way past the resistance cap for S/L. You'd be much better off using that slot for Stamina or Weave (which is underslotted for end reduction, btw).

If you're going to spend 6 slots on Taunt, use Mocking Beratement instead of Perfect Zinger. MB has three nice bonuses (S/L def, F/C def, recharge) and you don't need the larger S/L defense bonus in PZ.

If you're going to use 6 slots in an attack for E/NE defense, try the Pulzvering Fisticuffs and Pounding Slugfest combo I used in the first build I posted. That'll give you 2.5% instead of 1.88%, and a nice regen bonus besides.

Here's the changes I would recommend; with this build you have E/NE within 1% of soft-capping, and F/C within 3%, plus better recovery and lower end use.

My Characters

Knight Court--A CoH Story Complete 2/3/2012

I really like that build, I think that is the one I'll go with when I19 comes. Thank you very much everyone.

Finduilas, I love your build. I applied what you had done here with Energy to my Electric/INV tank and it was amazing. I had nearly 37% eng/ng defence. Typically in an ITF I had problems with the Crystal sections, with all the dwarfs / novas etc, but after taking your build advice, I was able to walk in with no prob. There was another INV tank on our team, and he wiped 2x from the crystal sections, I would run in and taunt the room and save his butt. I think I am pretty close but could you post a similar build for Electric melee/Inv?

You know what the silly part is? I have an energy melee/inv tank nearly the same lvl. Altitus is killing me, but I love INV.

Well, normally I don't post builds even though I tinker a lot lately... but this one inspired me.

I took your build, Finduilas, and tweaked it a bit for my Invuln/SS Tanker... then retro'd it to an Invuln/EM build.

You can switch out unstoppable for Hasten, but I prefer Unstop for those rare times it's necessary.

It's a Post I19 build, so Stamina slots are in rest for 3-slotted Performance Shifter (with the Proc). With that and a Miracle Proc in Health, it should be about 2.3 Recovery per second Net.

With some minor tweaks I got it to soft-cap on all Typed Defense, except Psi of course.

I got roughly the same capped numbers for the SS Tanker as well.

Nice! All of these builds make me want to take my INV tanks to the next lvl!

Aibheil, it's nice you were able to soft-cap to all positions, but personally I wouldn't be comfortable underslotting Invinc, ET and TF that way. IMO, soft-capping F/C just isn't worth doing if you have to underslot your attacks to do it, especially big hitters like TF and ET.

E/NE defense is always the tough one to soft-cap for primarily ST secondaries like EM and SS, and more so since the BotZ's bonus was reduced. One technique to consider that doesn't require slotting a lot of Mako's is picking up a ranged hold epic attack like Block of Ice or Char. You can get 5% E/NE defense in 5 slots, (3 x Thunder Strike. 2 x Basilisk's Gaze) more than two full sets of Mako's.

Well, I can see that, but you could just switch the sets in Barrage and Energy Punch with the sets from Energy Transfer and Total Focus if you're worried about under slotting. I personally would rather have the extra endurance recovery from the Energy Mastery Pool than have to take a different Epic. I'd rather not drop my toggles in case I lose focus for a moment because of a phone ringing or someone in the house yelling a question at me. With Invincibility, if you mean not slotting for To Hit, I have found it doesn't really need it. Been playing my Invuln/SS tank for a long while now and haven't noticed the need to slot for anything much besides a two slot defensive set. Still, it's not a terrible idea to add to attacks, typically I add the extra slot after the Kinetic Combat sets, typically the Mako quad, to add to it's capabilities... when I have the slots. Also, if it's that much of a concern, take the slots from the Auto Resists and use those. You'd still be good to go on S/L and E/N.
