I don't listen to him either but I hear people talking about him on a daily basis. I don't really care if you think he (or the restaurant owner) is succesful, as that is completely subjective. Though, apparently you do find him successful, just not as successful as Steve Jobs, so you don't really think much of his success.
If everywhere I go people are raving about a particular restaurant, I can safely say the owner is succeeding in his goal of creating a good restaurant. I'd feel like a fool if everytime someone told me how great a new restaurant is I responded with "Well, it's no McDonalds!"
Maybe the owners of the wildly successful Thai restaurant I love are failures 'cus their restaurant only appeals to the small niche of people who enjoy Thai food.
Country music artists have never really achieved any appreciable level of success because none have sold as many albums as The Beatles.
This argument is silly. -
First, this thread went from interesting to ridiculous but entertaining. Clearly some strange Market Forum drama spilled over from other threads.

Jimmy Carter is the perfect example from the otherside. You may think he was a complete idiot, but he was president and your chances are somewhat less than 1 in 300 million.
[/ QUOTE ]
If I was concerned with becoming the president those odds would be different because the actions I would take in pursuit of that goal would make it more likely. As such, that "statistic" is less than meaningful.
[/ QUOTE ]
Certainly the odds of some folks becoming president is higher than others, but for many the odds are actually zero, and it's safe to say the odds for any newborn becoming president of the US are less than 1 in 300 million. (Source: Made Up But Accurate Stats Inc. 2009)
Funny that folks care about Rush's ratings. The fact that he has clearly been very successful at doing what he does is foolish to deny. You may think he's a scumbag, and maybe he is, but he's a smart guy who influences millions of people. -
Why can't they just allow folks to add a terminal of some kind that allows payments to be submitted directly from the base?
Requiring folks to travel multiple zones to submit payment is lame. -
[ QUOTE ]
pvp can be hella fun
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm glad you've been havin' fun in the zones.
[ QUOTE ]
-The regular pvpers seem to be having problems with the way pvp works, but why should it matter to you if you are regulars and have in a sense "mastered" what it means to pvp?
[/ QUOTE ]
It's not that they can't adapt to the new pvp, but rather that they think pvp took a turn in the wrong direction (i.e., pvp is worse now and less fun than it was before the sweeping changes).
[ QUOTE ]
I keep seein these "Learn 2 pvp" comments and stuff
[/ QUOTE ]
Basically just ignore those fools. Some folks will say "Learn 2 pvp" if you pop an inspiration while others will tell that person to "Learn 2 pvp" because inspirations are part of pvp. People are idiots, and they will call you an idiot regardless of what you do. Maybe you had the nerve to create a toon with a sub-optimal powerset, or maybe you took the wrong power, or maybe they don't like your costume. Now, if you start crying in broadcast because someone used a particular power or inspiration, you really do need to "learn 2 pvp!" Take that for what it's worth.
[ QUOTE ]
Don't you guys want the "casual" or "non-regular" pvpers to get in on the fun.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, but those folks won't be the best the second they enter the zone, and should understand that they are going to take their lumps. Granted, some of the afformentioned idiots could help things by not insulting your mother after they kill you, but you should really just ignore them and report them rather than taking the bait. Some players derive their enjoyment by ruining yours, and they would rather engage in broadcast pvp than fight you on the battlefield. The more you return verbal fire, the more you open yourself up for continued abuse. They win if they make you so mad that you leave the zone and never come back. PvP loses.
[ QUOTE ]
those heroes who were on MY side that just sat there and dam near ignored me and let their homeboy wail on me with his super purple IOed out guy
[/ QUOTE ]
Tough to know without being there, but some folks do have a sense of fairness. Maybe you went to their fightclub spot where they typically fight 1 v 1, and the other heroes wanted to see how you faired against the villain. If they joined you and ganged up on him, he may have left instead of hangin' around to fight them each 1 v 1 after he was done with you. Who knows?
[ QUOTE ]
I'm not a guy who builds his hero around pvp
[/ QUOTE ]
Step #1 for you should be using your second build to make a pvp build. It can help quite a bit.
Again, glad you're havin' fun and just wanted to provide two cents worth of responses to your question. Keep on fightin'! -
Very interesting experiment. Well done, and thank you for posting.

[ QUOTE ]
What I find funny is when I attack someone running through a zone 1v1, kill them, and then they angrily challenge me to a duel. It's like dude, wtf do you think just happened? When one person kills one other person, isn't that a duel?
[/ QUOTE ]
Hilarious 'cus it's so true.
...also a good post by Nerian. -
While not a new suggestion, I did recently post a thread suggesting that they Add Arena Terminals in PvP Zone Hospitals. That would take care of the folks interested in dueling or other (larger) fair fights, and be a good QoL change.
I seriously doubt we'll ever see a no TS pvp zone, as that really screws over the melee classes, and to-date we just keep seeing increases in the amount of suppression.
I do think that we need another lvl 50 zone, and it needs to be a FFA that allows cross-faction teaming.
As the OP suggested, the new zone should have an improved "safe-zone" area that is truly safe, but does not allow for retreats (i.e., you can't go back to safe zone once you leave unless you die)
a long time ago I suggested a new pvp zone modeled after Siren's Call (since it's the best designed of the current zones) that basically does all of this stuff. To save precious development time, they could just put a slightly different skin on the existing zone and call it "Siren's Call 2020" or something like that, and you would zone it at the same entrance as the current Siren's (so you would have the option of choosing Siren's Call or Siren's Call 2020). Make a few modifications to the safe zone, bump the level up to 50, allow cross-faction teaming, and your set.
Anyway, here's to pipe dreams... -
Is it a single 10-minute match?
Just making sure.
Good luck. Hopefully, you get a good turnout! -
I love this thread.
[ QUOTE ]
lol..yeah my best was on my crappy spines sr with sos. A brute got tired of me winning and challenged me to an arena duel. I never duel but. meh okay. I started kiting the brute with impale and we quit out.
"what are you doing?"
'If your not going to duel then I am going to leave"
"I was dueling"
"You must be new to pvp, your not supposed to jump around like that in a duel.."
"is there anything else I should know?"
"no inspirations"
"so just so I understand, I am not supposed to move, or use inspirations..is there anything else I can't do to make sure you win?"
"what do you mean?"
"I am supposed to stand there and let you build fury?"
"Your a scrapper, you should stand and fight...you really don't know how to pvp do you?"
"no I guess not, CYA!"
[/ QUOTE ]
Hilarious. Hearing melee fightclubbers teach folks that duels are meant to be fought standing toe-to-toe with no movement really never gets old.
[ QUOTE ]
(Ravens)i go hours with out dying. Wrecked never, if i die i had a lapse in concentration or the dreaded lb heavy made his mark. First in foremost i ain't rushing head first into a trap .And what stalker let's themselves get continually ganked?
[/ QUOTE ]
<Raises Hand> I take this to mean that you're one fo the stalkers who simply won't attack if there's a chance you might die. That can certainly make for some boring pvp on both sides. Personally, I don't care about death, and I die quite frequently on my stalker but I always attack the trap in hopes of scoring a kill, even if death is a certainty and a kill unlikely. I think it's far more fun to attack and die than to sit around not attacking because I'm scared of dying.
[ QUOTE ]
Edit: also i have seen guy get kills with 0 AS's, he made me a believer, the guy he fought kept caltrops out and he still won. If you think I'm just pumping him.
[/ QUOTE ]
Amazing! You saw a stalker beat someone in fightclub well, you've made a believer out of me! Fact is, fightclub fights are a joke.
[ QUOTE ]
fiteklubbing is nothing more than button mashing. There really is no skill involved - if the other person's got a better build, they'll win.
[/ QUOTE ]
Truth! The only reason to deny this truth is to boost your own ego. -
As a /devices blaster who thinks tp'ing folks into stacks of trip mines is always good for a few laughs, I had a strong dislike for the new "phase" period after tp foe.
However, with the way mez effects work now, the "phase" period was needed to stop tp-foe > stun > insta-kills that would have taken "EZ Mode" to a whole new level. -
Yeah, players should not be able to change their gender on a whim. Changing gender is a very long process that requires quite a bit of time and thought, and should not be taken lightly.
However, for RP reasons, I'd like to change one of my toons to a girl so it can marry another one of my toons, as their relationship is currently frowned upon by many in Paragon City. -
[ QUOTE ]
Have you ever had a thought, laughed at yourself, and shared it with friends?
... guess not. Yesterday I was on a team with 4 OTHER blasters, a tank and a TA/A defender. And just for one second I thought "I should slot range in my attacks, so I can beat them to the punch."
According to you that's gloating about my faceplanting skills.
[/ QUOTE ]
Have you ever shared a thought with your friends, and someone said "Guess you had to be there.." or nobody thought it was as funny as you did, or someone thought you were gloating?
maybe not, but it does happen sometimes. Maybe I misinterpreted the intent of the OP, but that does happen from time to time, as you may be aware.
I guess I don't follow your analogy re: faceplanting, but whatever.
[ QUOTE ]
I'm only 20,000,000 bids away from that purple recipe!
[/ QUOTE ]
Trust me, it's well worth the time when you finally get that item for 103,222,256, and know you didn't overpay by more than 4 inf. -
Nice Scoop stories Neuronia. I never saw those before. Thanks for the shout-out regarding the Duel Ladder!
-
It seems like you and I agreed on the merit of this suggestion, as we have very similar initial posts.
However, you start to lose me with your second post where you say "if you can give me 100% proof that level 50's destroy the game, then I would consider your suggestion." If level 50's were somehow destroying the game, then obviously drastic changes along the lines of the OP's suggestion would have some merit (of course, that's fantasy land).
[ QUOTE ]
you could offer me all the money in the world and i still would not give up my 50's.
[/ QUOTE ]
Were you talking REAL money when you said this? If so, I think your attachment to your characters may have reached a very unhealthy level, and you should consider other hobbies.
That being said, I took your suggestion and read your posts in this thread. Thank you for the good laugh! -
Your posts are nothing if not second-rate.
If you're concerned about the thread being in the wrong location, I suggest you notify the mods instead of throwing around your childish insults. -
[ QUOTE ]
I don't understand why People thought of the old PvP as 'exclusive' or 'Eliteskillrequired'
[/ QUOTE ]
I understand completely why people think the old pvp was exclusive to certain builds, but I'm pretty sure the only folks who think "eliteskillrequired" are limited to a select few pvp'ers who like to overstate how much "skill" is required to do well in pvp.
Your group used all sorts of different AT's, but how many matches did you win against teams who had "optimal" lineups when you fielded your all-melee team? (ZERO, right? Who would ever field an ALL-melee team??? Lolmelee)
The fact is the "optimal" lineup cannot be created by using any random powerset/AT combination, so many players feel like they have no place in competitive arena pvp. This was/is true both before and after the changes.
[ QUOTE ]
My point is - People assumed that you 'cant' run Melee or non-Fotm's because they don't work, when that wasn't the case.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, you can run whatever you want and be competent, but if you want to compete with the best (and actually have a chance of winning) you need(3d) a very specific lineup that excludes many powerset/AT combos. -
[ QUOTE ]
This cant be a serious post.
You honestly feel you got ripped off becasue you won an item valued at 1 mil+ for the low cost of 5k?
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm glad someone else had a similar reaction to the OP I read it as "hahahha I ripped someone else off and made out like a bandit. Please praise my low-bidding skills."
Seriously though, regardless of the previous sale prices for an item, you should always start your bidding at 1 and increase in increments of 5 to ensure you don't overpay like the OP did here. -
Should 1 hero be able to kill 3 villains and a heavy, even without TS?
Blaming the devs 'cus you're not completely overpowered?
I'm just sayin' cry me a river. -
Possibly the worst suggestion I've ever seen.
and 1st after a Hyperseries of posts!
-
I think you need this! (Suggestion: Unlimited Market Slots w/ Daily Fees)
Absent that, you might as well vendor those items sucks selling things for 5 - 10k when they could/would net larger amounts on the market if you have the patience to leave them there for a month...
(disclaimer: I know very little about anything) -
Thanks. I know 400 million isn't all that much for some folks, but I've never had anything close to that amount before. This character was the richest I've ever had by a good margin prior to the sale when he was sittin' pretty with approx 150 million.
Since IO's were introduced, I've always resigned myself to the fact that many IO's are simply unattainable with my limited means, so I make do with the cheaper sets. This influx of cash does enable me to purchase a good number of IO's that I would not have considered previously.
Good stuff!
